I think I must be in a bitter bitter place right now because I find myself looking at the plot of this book with a jaded angry eye. If you distill this book down to it's bare bones you are left with something kind of ugly.

Kelly decided to go to Paris without her Fiance for a two week vacation.
Kelly gets mugged and handsome American stranger (Our hero Will) just happens to be there and helps her out.
Kelly and Will fall in love (what Fiance?!?) and hump alot.
Kelly goes back to America and completly reworks her life.
Will follows.
Kelly tells Will his life is a mess and she won't have him until he figures things out for himself.
Kelly tells him what the mess in his life is.
Will fixes it.
Happily ever after.

See how jaded I am? The book was an enjoyable read over all. But there was some gaping holes that kind of ticked me off. And the reality is that Kelly pretty much said - I love you no matter what - but we can't be together until you fix your relationship with your Dad. Um... Yuck. Will turned into kind of a wimp who was willing to suck down poison (his relationship with his dad) in order to win the heart of his girl. It just sat really wrong with me. And there was the whole side plot with her father (whom her mother told her was dead but turns out he was just really rich and kind of an asshole.) that never really got resolved. And then there was the co-worker of Wills that was pretty much only there to prove a point in a speech Kelly gave Will. Yeah - there were some things that really annoyed me about this book. BUT..... I still had a hard time setting it down and liked it enough to be mad that some of the loose ends were not hammered out for me. :)

This was a very good read. The story had humor and an engaging pair of lead characters who worked out their issues in a logical and caring fashion while growing closer to each other. This was a story about the mistakes people make in their lives and how taking the hard road to fix these mistakes can sometimes lead to something so much better. It's also about what it takes to create a lasting partnership and how no relationship can survive without forgiveness. Wow! All that and humor too!

Kelly is a down-to-earth, steady woman. She's engaged and getting ready to settle into the life that's been prepared for her by friends and family. But, before she takes that step, she wants to find out something about the father she never knew who died before she was born. So she heads to Paris where he was born. She no sooner arrives than she is mugged. He takes her money, passport, engagement ring, and worst of all...the few letters from her father to her mother that were all she had left of him. She's dazed and in shock.

Will is a carefree, irresponsible man who's still running from family responsibilities. He's no knight in shining armor (just ask him)! But something inside him urges him to help Kelly out when he comes upon her immediately after the mugging. What follows is a delightful story about lust and love, lies and forgiveness, and learning what you really want...and trust. The story was tight and flowed well. There were no TSTL moments and no HUGE MISUNDERSTANDINGs. The characters liked each other, were nice to each other, and quibbled with each other...just like a real relationship! I didn't cry while reading this book...but when I finished I did have a big smile on my face...

Where do I even start? I really don't want to waste any more of my time on this book - see my quotes as I started then quit which I will copy/paste below. H goes off to Paris. Doesn't tell her fiancee. They've known each other since forever and everyone just assumes they are as happy in love as they want them to be including him. She doesn't bother to tell anyone different. Apparently she doesn't bother to tell anyone much of anything. She doesn't tell her mother her real reason for going to Paris and stupid me ended up skimming the rest of the book to figure out how that ended and wasted my time because it didn't amount to diddly squat. Apparently my appreciation for my time in Paris is the total opposite of what H was interested in seeing and experiencing there. I could not relate at all. Enough time wasted.

At 6% - "Everything about the architecture seemed older than a few centuries, practically older than America." ? HUH? I should have stopped there but I kept going until 20% when she walked out of a French restaurant that served pigeon (Guy Savoy's BBQ pigeon is fabulous by the way) then complained about truffles on pizza at the next place. Just no. Done.

A promising premise for a romance novel - engaged Midwestern girl takes one last trip before her wedding to romantic Paris (sans fiancé, naturally), gets mugged, and then is rescued by hunky fellow South Bendite living abroad to escape familial pressure and expectations at home.

As Wil takes Kelly on a whirlwind tour of Paris, she realizes that her fiancé at home is not the man for her and that the father she thought was dead is both alive and completely unaware of her existence. Soon, Kelly's passport is replaced and she is on her way home to South Bend without Wil, who has vowed never to return home.

Somewhere along the line, this novel crossed genres into a semi-literary story involving both Kelly and Wil's families. Interesting premise, but it didn't work for me in this limboland between popular romance and literary fiction. That concept, itself, is thought provoking in terms of stories that should be able to exist somewhere in-between. In the end, I think gave it two stars because my expectations prior to reading the novel were not met.

This was entertaining. I picked it up at a library sale for 50 cents because, well, it takes place in Paris and I love that city. However, there isn't a whole lot of Paris in the book - it's mostly a story about two strangers from South Bend, Indiana, that happen to meet in Paris. The only thing that bothered me was the dialogue because it wasn't all that believable. Example: the knight in shining armor calls his lover "Cookie" (repeatedly) and it's supposed to be hot. Apologies if this is commonplace in Indiana, but in New York we don't hear stuff like that. Much of the conversations between the characters actually detracted from the legitimacy of the story. At least for me. But it was a fast read!

Couldn’t finish it. Overall, I love a good palate cleansing, easy “chick-lit” read, love some Hallmark movies, all the cheesy things. I just couldn’t with the writing in this one. The oh so innocent wording did not line up with line up what was happening, “embarrassing the devil out [of her]” while having sex, the day they met? Her “Fanny” bumped into his elbow? Eye rolling for me. I couldn’t get past it.
The story seems really fun and cute but I bailed early.

I was able to pick one of my own romances out of my massive (and I mean massive) stack of personal books this month for the romance pick for my book club. I had had this book on my stack for a while. I love books that take place in another country or at least start there. I was excited to start reading it.

Kelly heads off the Paris without telling anyone. Not even her fiance or her mother. She needs a break from life. Life got a little more exciting when she was mugged outside of the Louver. She is saved by a man in a University of Notre Dame sweatshirt named Will. Meeting and being with Will sets some balls in motion with Kelly that she didn’t know about. She was questioning the way her life was going. How can she return to her normal life when she returns to South Bend? I’ll admit it took me a bit to get into this book. I was in a self-professed book funk. Once I got out of it, I really enjoyed it. I loved the fact that the book takes place in South Bend, a city that is just a short drive from my own hometown. It was so cool to see things mentioned that I know about and have seen.

I really loved the relationship between Will and Kelly it was like they were soul mates. They made each other better people. I thought the father twist was a little unnecessary it really didn’t add anything to the story. It did add a twist to the mother/daughter relationship but that was really all it did. I thought that Will and his father’s relationship added the right amount of tension to the story. Kelly pushing Will to mend the fences with his dad was nice. Her using it as an ultimatum at times was a bit much in my opinion. I was happy that Will and Kelly got their happily ever after. All in all, I really did enjoy this book. I know that the author has several other books out as well and I think I will certainly check them out as well.

This book is not worth reading. I love "chicklets" from time to time and was less than impressed by this one from the jump. The author is telling us instead of showing us the story. The premise is good but the writing was awful. I did more eye rolling than I have with any other book. It was a quick read, thankfully or else I wouldn't have finished it.

I like how the author starts you right away with some action. I enjoyed the book and like how the pacing kept going from beginning to end. She does switch viewpoints which made it nice as got to see how both of the main characters felt and why they acted the way they did. It wasn't all smooth sailing with the characters between themselves and with others in their lives. One of the other things that was a bonus was the humor mixed into the book. Having read this author before it was something I was looking forward to see how she mixed it into this story. One I would recommend.

Mugged of her purse while in Paris, the heroine is left with no money, no passport, and no hotel key. So she emailed all her friends to wire money to an address in London while manning the computer from Nigeria--OH WAIT, no, actually a hunky American JUST HAPPENED to be on the scene and whisk her away for a mad romantic sex tour of Paris that would have been even more awesome had she not been engaged to someone else at the time . Turns out the hero and heroine have more in common than nookie in the City of Lights; they both have to go back to their hometown of South Bend, Ind. (home of the OTHER Notre Dame ) and work out their daddy issues together. This was actually very cute.

Ugh; I'm so incredibly disgusted by this and terribly bewildered by all the positive reviews. I started reading this, but then when I got 50 pages into it and the main characters were having sex the day they met I realized it just isn't my type of novel. So much for the main character being engaged; if a person's willing to cheat WITH you, they're not going to have problems cheating ON you either. Definitely not "true love" or "romantic" to me; a completely unhealthy, unsatisfying and unromantic relationship, and completely unsatisfying and unromantic book as a result. Don't pick this up unless you're cool with causal sex.

Full disclosure; I've never read anything by this author before. I found this book at a library sale and thought "For $0.50 why not?!"

Now, I didn't give it one star because I actually finished it and I did so to find out what happens to the characters. I like Chick lit as much as the next girl but this book to me was closer to grocery store romance novel.

The writing was pretty bad. Several things the main characters said to each other were eye-roll worthy or ridiculous. The plot had its moments, but so much was predictable and/or unbelievable. I didn't dislike the characters, but I never felt connected to them. All in all, I didn't enjoy the book that much. Glad I only spent $0.50!

Engaged woman goes off by herself to Paris to secretly look for info on her dead birth father. She gets mugged, and pretty much moves in with her rescuer. I thoroughly disliked the heroine, and the "romance" in this story was pretty much a by-the-numbers damsel in distress. Having her attempt to rescue the hero in return did not make her a strong, capable woman. It just made her more unlikable. The hero? He was just there. 100% perfect wish-fulfillment, except for that one little issue. Gah.

The perfect vacation/beach read. It's your typical chick lit, predictable storyline, but engrossing none the less.

I found it a little cheesy at first, but quickly became totally enchanted by the characters. After I finished the book, I found myself missing them, like I suddenly was no longer in contact with my best friends (well, maybe not my BEST friends.. but friends that I'd known for some time).

I've been to both Paris and South Bend. Couldnt' believe how real she did the locations. But I loved it. The heroine's flawed, making a deep moral mistake with the guy in Paris--and she knows it. Feels the guilt. But she also gets it, that this is a sign her fiance was way wrong for her. Not like she recovers from this easily...or believes in her new love easily. Real, honest, compelling. About the strength of love.

This was really a well written romance. Girl escapes to Paris because she needs some breathing room, she falls in love even though she has a fiance in the states. Oops. It just gets better with every page. I really like the way the Paris boyfriend treats the states boyfriend (will not tell any spoilers - you need to read the book). This rates high on my romance novel status. Really like Greene's writing style.

It was mediocre. I knew who the bitch was going to end up with. Why am I not surprised? So predictable! I can't leave myself hanging in the middle of the book after starting it. It's going to bug the shit out of me even after knowing what's going to happen. I'm going to read another mediocre romance novel because I'm turning into this huge middle-aged fat guy sitting on a couch reading romance novels at Barnes and Nobles, while sipping on strawberry cream from Starbucks.

Will and Kelly fall in love in Paris. Kelly is mugged and Will comes to her rescue.

It turns out that both are origninally from South Bend; Will has been living in Paris trying to get away from his controlling family. Kelly is in Paris looking for information on her father.

Will their relationship last? What will happen with their respective families?

Boring. Very disappointing after "Blame it on Chocolate." I just couldn't get into the characters or their problems. I've also never really liked stories in which an engaged woman suddenly realizes she's been with the wrong man all along because some new man really makes her feel this incredible passion...those emotions feel good in the short run, but don't sustain a relationship.

There is something to be said for a little mystery in a relationship, within page 30 the two main characters are googly eyed and cant keep their hands off each other. the main character has everything stolen from her and she doesn't seem to mind as long as she can gaze longlingly into the the 'just so happens to be a millionaire's son's eyes... BAH humbug It's all just too much for me.

Hero and heroine fall in love a tad too quickly for my liking, and there's very little tension between them. Also, I found the closing chapters (where they each accept/solve their familial issues) a little stodgy to get through. That being said, there's some lovely description in this book - scenes are very well set and easy to visualize. And it did make me want to go back to Paris.

This book annoyed me to the point that I couldn't finish it.
I didn't want to continue reading about Will who was meant to be this great guy and hero of the book but who kept getting annoyed (even if he didn't show it) at his love interest (forgot her name) for talking too much. Urgh. The author really laboured the point that Will was annoyed with her talkative nature.

It's an odd book, but good. Romance, strong characters, a little short on plot, maybe, but it was an easy, pleasant read in the brain candy kind of way. I certainly wouldn't object to reading more by this author.

I keep coming back to this book when I want a quick cheery pick-me-up. The fast pace, the banter, the fun the characters have make for an over-all feel good read. I can't decide which Jennifer Greene is my favorite, this one or Blame It On Chocolate.

Interesting turn of events but you could tell from the beginning who would end up together in the end... I just thought there could be a better ending. Or a sequel would be great! I hate books that end like boom... Guess I like the happily ever after.
