We are living through an unprecedented worldwide educational renaissance. You can start learning nearly anything you want at a moment’s notice. What awesome power lies in taking that decision! It’s true that deciding what to learn is sometimes overwhelming. But once you’ve decided, a single mouse click starts an online course, a how-to video, or lecture on the topic of your choice. Follow through on your learning and the new knowledge and skills you gain could land you the next scholarship, job, or business opportunity.
Learning is increasingly important because the world as a whole is getting smarter. We know more and can do more with the skills we have. Institutions are more specialized and companies want to hire the most talented employees. From the individual viewpoint, you face increasingly sharp competition.
Those who get ahead in today’s world, and in the future, will do so because they know how to learn. That is, they will have mastered meta-learning, or learning how to learn. And in this short book, I will introduce Lean Metalearning, which is the lean approach to learning how to learn. I'll show you how I applied it to in just three months place 5th in the worldwide Memrise.com $10k Memory Competition. Applying Lean Metalearning in your everyday learning just might be the most important thing you start doing today. At worst you will pick up new knowledge and skills with relative ease. At best you’ll gain a deep understanding to an approach that could change your life and through you, the world.
One word of caution. There are no shortcuts to learning. However, I have both lived through and watched others take painful long cuts in learning. At the very least, the Lean Metalearning approach will give you a system to identify these unnecessary switchbacks on the path to whatever learning summit you seek.
