When Vicky becomes the target of a serial arsonist plaguing the city, Darien calls on the supernatural community to help. Pulling the creatures of the night together to cooperate on any project is troublesome at the best of times. The fact that the one responsible for the city’s woes is a being of fire and magic leads the reluctant groups to a truce that makes Vicky start to think that her job might be a bit more than one normal human can handle.

I really enjoyed the last book 'Kindling Flames Gathering Tinder I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because of the unannounced cliffhanger and the really odd city in fire pics at the start of every chapter, they annoyed me no end all the way through the book. I couldn't wait for the second book I downloaded the 20% sample from Smashwords since it was the only place I could find it before the 3rd October. Like I said I'd already read the first 20% and it was good, really good and this book had the same characters we'd loved from the first book plus some new ones, my favourite of which was Zak "He's like a fay version of a dog, only smarter." The cute little fay 'dog' is in fact a bundle of tentacles which can take other forms, it's impossible not to love Zak in fact I want him. As we know from the previous book someone is setting fires and now they've targeted Victoria, magic is involved and with the vampires and werewolves at each other's throats it's not looking good. In the end it's no surprise who's behind the attacks we've known since the first book and while I do like a surprise it doesn't spoil the book that it's not and its not supposed to be. Now while this book is aimed at a much younger audience than me I still enjoyed it, the story was interesting and the characters were great I have to admit that it dragged a little in the middle for me mainly because I couldn't understand why Vicky and Darien didn't get their acts together, the attraction was there on both sides and they're not innocent teenagers so what was the hold-up? I'm giving 4 stars again, this is due to the slow part in the middle and the continuation of those cheap and tacky city burning pictures at the start of every chapter, am I the only person these annoyed? Anyway I'm waiting eagerly for the next book.

Flying sparks? Damn...those sparks are blazing! If you're like me, you may find that you're fanning yourself with the book at certain points. Not kidding, these two have chemistry! I absolutely love the relationship between Darien and Vicky. Add an adorable, if unusual, pet with personality and an entertaining cast of friends and colleagues, and you have one fun, fast-reading adventure. I can't wait for the next book in this series. These are exactly the kind of supernatural books that I love! P.S. Tell me where I can get a makeover like Vicky's...please?
The adventure and romance continues. The story is really killing me in a good way right now. OMG. I'm in love. Zak is definitely one of my favorites. I NEED TO READ BOOK 3!!!!
This second book to Kindling Flames series has it all. Vampires (of course), werewolves, fairies, and even hell hounds. Julie Wetzel isn't about explanations, she writes it into her stories where you know what their differences are. I had so much fun reading this book. One of those rare books that keep you reading despite the hour or droopy eyes. It has such suspense and excitement that you can't wait to see what happens. I highly recommend her books. She's an incredible writer.
Less Romantic heat than a Disney Movie..... NOT A ROMANCE !!!
If your just looking for an interesting story, Like Vampires,Were-Wolves ! Fay and Fairies and the like and don't mind a sweet but deeply clueless h ? ( I mean deeply clueless virgin kinda clueless, like just has a bit ,ore clues at times that Cher from the movie "Clueless") then this might be the story for you.... I kinda really like the story per say but what pisses me off is this being called a " romance" ;( Seriously DISNEY movies have had more romance than this!!!! Ariel was more excited to kiss Prince Eric in the "Little Mermaid" than this!!!! There are 100's of books out there where women are chasing after their "stepbrothers" with vim and vigor and Vicky is acting like the title of "boss" is some unbreakable line that just can't be crossed no matter what they've seen and done and been thru together ...... He's a 900 yr. old Vampire who's supposedly in love with her but even after admitting it out loud he still just calls her his assistant even in his head.... WTF ... No offense but I think even an Amish " romance" novel would have more heat than this!!! Even with all his supposed lusting for her he's never give her more than hugs and some chaste and or healing kisses..... These to have the intensity of two wet matches.... As just a story I'd give this three and a half to four stars maybe, but as a romance ? I give it -0 ...... This a romance with all story and NO HEAT AND OR ROMANCE!!!! Two book and they still call each other Mr. Ritter and Miss Westernrly . Ugh!!!!! I'm not sure how much farther just Curiosity will take me... Her adopted pet shows a 100% More affection for her than she in her complete and utter cluelessness shows the H and for the most part the H shows her... Story good ... Romance non existent !!!!
This quote sums up the romantic part of the book. Vicky's debate between what is logical and what is emotional. Darien and Vicky become more intimate as she gets dragged into the supernatural world. It becomes the catalyst for them to come to terms with their feelings...will they act on them? (hehe will let you read the book to find out! No spoilers here hihi)
"Where can I get me one of whose?"
We have to agree with Vicky's friends (Vanessa, Beth and Maggie who, not knowing they entered the vampire's layer, happily push the two to become a couple). I think we all get a little mushy over this over giggling man. Although he is only occasionally described has a macho men, we can still imagine him to be sexy and manly. He becomes the shield and the sword to protect Vicky even going to battle to save her.
We get to meet new supernatural creatures, some will make you fuzzy while others will make you go 'ugh' , but overall, you kind of wish you could be a part of their world. Vicky not only changes because of her meeting Darien but also due to meeting these new creatures. And I don't mean only psychologically. For those who haven't read the book before, if you look at the book covers (#1 and #2) and compare them, you will understand what I mean without any spoiler...it is up to you to read and find out how or why hehe.
"Pretty like fields of flowers and spider silk (...) Pretty like blue skies and the sun (...) Pretty like moonlight"
Hope you enjoy reading it like I did..and please, ration it better then I did. It ends too fast, as always, when it's a good book :)
Honestly, I wasn't really expecting much with this series. I don't know, but it just seems like every vampire romance out there is . . . trashy, and over the top, and . . . . I know, I know. Personal opinion. But that's what it felt like to me. However, with that said, I've been looking casually for vampire romances that don't make me cringe (sex, swearing, vain names) which, I have to tell you, is almost impossible. Like I said, I wasn't expecting much. And then I started book 1. There were a few cuss words, but they were minimal. I honestly don't remember a vain name in there, but I could have missed one or so, and no sex. It was INTERESTING! Gasp. It held my interest all through book 1 (which ended on a cliffhanger) and continued through book 2. I'm looking forward to the next one in the series. I hope it stays clean so I can read it. :)
This book was full of action and suspense. Darien,an old and powerful vampire has come to depend on Vicky for keeping his human life in order . However since she has been made aware of his vampire life, she has come to be special to him and he fights to control his feelings as he realizes he loves her. Zak,a Fay, a little ball of tentacles has marked Vicky as his ,He can change his appearance to look like a dog and now Vicky is his human.Darien and Zak often square off over her. Vampires, Werewolves,Fay,Ifiri ,Demons Hell hounds and Magic and a few people . Please read and enjoy Flying Sparks sequel to Gathering Tinder I recommend this to everyone!
Vicky is a personal assistant/secretary to a CEO. She is good at what she does and takes it very seriously. She needs this job and doesn't think it odd that her handsome, charismatic boss has strange business hours and habits. And the strange fires and deaths in the city. Sparks fly more than from burning embers and there seems to be more to Vicky than the reader is led to believe at first. Ok, where is #3? I so want to find out what happens next!
This was totally different than Book 1. In book 1, I was upset because of the unannounced cliffhanger plus I felt the book lacked excitement and real romance. I almost talked myself out of Book 2 but...WOW!!! I loved it. The creativity and imagination that went into the scenes were unbelievable. And the characters! OMG! I loved them. of course I'm especially in love with Zak!!! Great job, Ms. Wetzel.
3.5 stars ..... I didn't enjoy this as much as the first one!! But it was still good :)
I hope there's more to come, surely this isn't the end of the series :O I need to know what happens next, but the Author made no indication of book #3 being in the works :/
At what point do you realize that a story is really just too much make believe? I look on this series as my fairy break before I get back to the world of serious novels.
The dynamics continue to grow in this series, even if it is at a snail pace. There is still no real romantic interest between the lead characters and the addition of Zak, the highly intelligent hellhound, leaves much to be discussed but I must admit that I like the different take as most novels would have had them jumping each other's bones 5 chapters into book 1.
The world of "the night" continues to draw all sorts of characters and we got a rather .... let's go with ... unique, retelling of Rapunzel.
Personally, I am not surprised by Vicky's issues towards the end of this novel. There's only so much a mind can take and her brain has been on overload in the space of a month. For a moment, I lost all understanding of her character and personality and it felt like the novel or series could go on without her. She became a catalyst and nothing more.
A lot of elements in this novel are less than desirable but the conflict was pretty far-fetched even if the Jinnis started to grow on me. Oh well, on to the next one!
I read book 2 in the trilogy set (books 1-3) it was pretty much a continuation of book 1 and solves the cliff hanger of book one. Then it opens the door to more danger for Victoria Westernly and her vampire boyfriend, Darien as they visit the lands of Fae. The third book in this set still leaves much unanswered, and although not a cliff hanger like the first book it still leaves you unsatisfied. So the story has some good elements (the Halloween Ball was interesting), but some story parts are mediocre, (such as Vicky's mother, Ann, and her vampire lover). I do love Zak the hell hound; the author is consistent with his character and Zak adds plenty of action and antics to Darien and Victoria's romantic journey. I also like the sensible Elliot, Sue, Karl, and Rupert, who makes me think of a feisty terrier more than a werewolf. There is minor profanity, which I would rather not read, but thankfully it does not dominate the story. There is plenty of sensuality without all the sexual details. This is a story about vampires, werewolves, and fairy magic, so there are violent episodes and some are a bit gory and gross. So, not a great read for me, but fans of paranormal should be pleased.
The suspense and excitement ramp up when Vicky and Darien realize that she is now the target of the serial arsonist that has already destroyed many buildings in the area. When Vicky is attacked, her apartment is burned and she is seriously injured. But, the worst is yet to come. With everything beginning to happen at once-chaos, bedlam, and turmoil-Darien asks for more aid from a different faction of the paranormal community, the Fay, and the conflict increases as Vicky is placed in more danger than she realizes. I enjoyed the suspense, the interaction between the many unusual varieties of other-worldly creatures, along with Darien's slow, calculated attempts to set Victoria at ease around him so he can really show her how much he really cares for her and wants her with him always. Really enjoyable to read !!!
I'm on my third read of this series, I do like it. I love the little hellhound, Zak, what an imaginative character! This book picks up from the cliffhanger ending in the first book. Victoria was the victim of an explosive fire and has been marked by a demon, It's an entertaining story, and part of the story arc is complete in this book, it has a tease into the next book, but no cliffhanger this time. I did mark the book down a bit because the editing is not as good as the first book. I found several typos and constant use of the term 'forwards' instead of 'forward' bugs me. But, the characters and story are good, the romance is slow burn and clean so far, and there are good variety of creatures that keep the story interesting.
I don’t know what happened for me on this one. Had to do some skimming to finish. I got bored with it, I guess. Not sure if I’ll continue this series. It has action and lots of paranormal creatures (this is normally right up my alley), but so far, not a lot of romance. Maybe that’s what is missing for me here. I want there to be romance. I’m tired of all the politeness, too. I swear, sugar wouldn’t dissolve in the mouths of these characters. They are so polite, and noble and good. Ugh!
Again, good bones but lacked a sense of believability. Our hero is ridiculously stupid for an 'ancient' vampire and really should not have lived as long as he has given his thoughtless and impulsive behaviour. And again our heroine takes too much in her stride without blinking.
The story was slow again at the beginning and picked up momentum over half way through. There are no sexual scenes so a young teen might enjoy this vampire story. The little romance is back ground noise so I won't be reading on I need more romance.
It was an ok second book, the first was better, unfortunately it leaves you hanging - so you much go on. The second was slower and had too much filler, so it was harder for me to read, as I would find myself getting bored. I didn't dislike it, just feel like it was "too" much of an attempt
This is a really good story about every kind of super natural being there is. There are vampires, werewolves, fay, demons, ect. I loved this story. I read book 1 and now 2 and am going to do book 3 today.
I wanted to like this book! But it was sooooooo slow. It would spend multiple chapters on one small price of the plot. After reading books 1&2 and still the main characters not getting together I could not waste time on book 3. As shark tank would say... I'm out.
Okay I am a super lazy person today. I really enjoyed book 2. I am more invested in the story now too. I may have rated this a star too high but idgaf right now. On to book 3. I swear to everything sacred if nothing happens between Vicky and Darien I will scream bloody murder. Wish me luck!
I've been chewing through these books and can't wait for the next one. The tension is amazing and the plot had me talking back to the book. My jaw legitimately drops at points and I'm already opening the third book.
I love this series. It’s captivating and the storyline flows from one book to another developing there relationship and friendships along the way. Recommend this book
