Gavin MacLeod (born Allan George See, February 28, 1931) was an American character actor, mayor and ship's ambassador, who in his six decades of television is notable for playing Joseph "Happy" Haines on McHale's Navy, Murray Slaughter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and for his lead role as Captain Merrill Stubing on The Love Boat. He is the stepfather of Drew Steele, of the rock band the Surf Punks.

Gavin MacLeod is to be admired, as he writes about his acting career, his Christian faith, his marriage breakdown with Patty, and his marriage restoration with Patty. His wife Patty also writes some chapters, so it's a gentle and uplifting he said, she said, and gives glory to God.

Patty became a Christian after the marriage break-up, and then Gavin became a Christian. I was most impressed by his honesty and pointing out the foibles of pursuing an acting career without God at the center.
