Slick: A Reverse Harem Omegaverse

Rate this book
From the moment I was shipped to The Serenity Center at sixteen, I ceased to be a person.
They not only erased my memories, but they reduced me to a single the manufacture of omega secretions, known as slick.
To the facility owners I’m just a juicy line on their spreadsheets, and to the collectors who milk me for all I’m worth, I’m just a job. Because there are powerful, wealthy people who will pay a lot of money to have exclusive rights to my slick.
I live in ignorance of this betrayal for nearly a decade, sold on a dream of one day retiring with my perfect mate.
Until they bring in a specimen – a real, live alpha – to tempt a record deposit out of me.
Not only does he bust through a wall to get to me, but he breaks me out, taking my beta caretaker with us. This should be the start of our perfect life together, but we’re barely free of the facility before we’re torn apart.
Now I’m alone in a world I’ve forgotten.
Until I meet the men who smell and taste almost as good as my alpha.
Maybe this is the real dream – a pack of my own – if we could just stay alive long enough for them to knot me.

This is a steamy, standalone omegaverse, with all the delights of pack bonds, mating bites, messy heats, and alpha knots. There are NO shifters in this story. Check the trigger warnings in the Author's Note.

I loved this combination of a dark romance and an Omegaverse. It had a dark plot with lots of action and a bit of violence. The steam was out of this world, with the usual group scenes and heat that you expect in an omegaverse. My favourite was the sweetness of Diana’s character and the romance and bonds that build between her and her mates.

I read this book over time as a member of Roxy’s Facebook reader group and thus read it for free and am leaving an advance review before publishing.

Slick was a very enjoyable read! There were swoon-worthy moments and tension-fueled moments along with moments that had me squealing! On the dark romance spectrum, Slick definitely qualifies as a “grey” romance. The circumstances the FMC finds herself in with the wool completely over her eyes are definitely malicious, but things could’ve gotten a whole lot darker on the spectrum. Oddly, I enjoyed her naivety, but would’ve taken much more hurt/comfort dynamics than we got (that’s one of my favorite micro-tropes!). Rowan is an absolute sweetheart to Diana and Kane is ideal Alpha material, so I could never choose between the two of them!

I enjoyed the angst and tension throughout the book but it felt like the challenges were resolved too quickly and too easily for me to get truly emotionally invested in the storyline. By the time it sunk in that trouble was afoot, things were resolved already - good for my anxiety, not so great for my need for action and drama. Perhaps I wanted things to be a darker shade of grey than what we’ve got going on in this book, so if you’re on the lighter end of the spectrum, this will be perfect for you! While I expect things to be relatively fast-burn when we’re dealing scent matches in an omegaverse world, I would still like to have the time to really home in on the character and relationship development. Although I will say that despite that feeling of things being rushed, I did feel like each character was written distinctly unique - enough so that I could tell you which POV chapter we were in without looking - which is absolutely requirement for me to enjoy a book.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable read and I was very much so on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next. If you like omegaverse stories with heats and tension and danger and hurt/comfort, this is a book for you! Oh, and if you want to avoid MM in reverse harem romances, you’re going to love this one!

This book was incredible! Dark, delicious, knotting, possessive Alphas, and everything in between. The author did an amazing job with the storyline and allowing readers to fall in love with the characters. Diana is an Omega who was sold during her childhood for her slick. But she is brainwashed to think it's all for a good cause to find her Alpha one day. And boy does that one day happen due to an accident! So many things happen after another. The spice is incredible and sprinkled throughout. That heat scene..ofta!! A must read just like all of this authors books!

This wasn't great.

In an omega verse, I really want to like and respect all the partners. Dex is a doormat and a coward. He takes on his brother's debts so his brother doesn't even feel the effect of what he's done. And he works at this awful place for a year without telling anyone who can do anything about it. I wasn't super happy that he was one of Diana's mates.

Kane is OK... definitely violent, but loyal!

Rowan is fine as well but I'm not a fan of a porn star who is screwed his way through town.

Jake? He can go jump off a bridge. The idea that this man is her scent match? I can't even. Also, the idea that they could get intimate without him getting tested for all sorts of diseases is ridiculous.

Umm that’s it??

1. Diana has her memory wiped and doesn’t remember her real name but she just doesn’t care to learn? Nor does anyone else? We don’t know anything about her past other than a hint of a memory that seemed pointless to me. Did I miss a chapter?

2. Rowan, Diana’s other mate, is never bitten and claimed into the pack. He’s unbonded. He’s an omega and the other pack members besides Diana just kinda ignore him. Which is so disappointing because I thought he was the most interesting character in this whole book! I mean an omega who is a porn star?! That’s a great start to a character- it’s interesting!

3. Roxy has done much better at writing previous omegaverse. This one is poorly written, and flat. I was deeply disappointed in this. The whole first half of this had me rolling my eyes. I almost stopped reading multiple times. Diana, bless her soul…is well- to quote the book, “clueless.” and not in a fun and well written way.

4. The author claims that “all the characters feel love and accepted” but really everyone except for Diana and Kane were an afterthought. The beta in this pack doesn’t even get bonded in until the second to last chapter. Even that was boring.

5. At the end of the book they make this weird sex tape but again Rowan (who I remind you, is supposed to be part of the pack) just isn’t in it??? He’s behind the camera the whole time. No more no less. We never know why Rowan isn’t claimed or bitten into the pack.

7. This book is boring! I actually almost fell asleep reading this. Nothing is explained, the world building doesn’t exist. Backstories aren’t mentioned. There is no character depth to ANYONE.

Review
I loved this book! The pack members were protective of Diana (my favorite trait) and each spent about equal time with her. The characters felt fleshed out, the MCs were different from each other, and I especially liked how Rowan was different than typical ov omegas (). So, what more can I say? The spice was spicing, and the feels were feeling!

I will say though, the conflict(s) felt like they were solved a bit too soon. But if you're looking for a more sweet ov read, then this is for you! I also had some questions about how things happened. But these are just minor things that could easily be fixed by making the book a tad bit longer. Good news though, there weren't any plot holes!

I also kinda wish we got some mm within the pack (it feels like there could've been something between Dex, Kane, and Jake) because I personally love ov books more with it and Roxy is really good at writing mm relationships within the pack. But that's just my personal preference and not having any mm didn't take away from the book.

I really do love this new world and hope to have more stories focused on the rescued omegas from the slick facility. Maybe we could also get Fox's story or his VP's next? *wink wink* 🙏 please Roxy!!

I have a bad habit of not reading blurbs before starting books especially if i like the author. So when this arc became available, i signed up immediately. I don't know what I was expecting but this wasn't it. Lol. Still, I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed reading about how they were drawn to her and how they were all tangled up in the same mess as they were pulled together. It was a little darker without overly consuming the story. But I highly recommend this book.

3.5 Stars rounded up

Really liked the premise and storyline with the crazy slick factory and stealing omega's scents. I liked the characters though a few were a little flat and one dimensional. I definitely thought there needed to be better/deeper relationship building and the development of feelings. I love Roxy and almost everything she writes but this one seemed to rely a little too heavy on the Omega mind trick of "he's mine, he's pack" and not enough organic reactions.

The only way to possibly come out partially sane from being trapped inside a slick factory as a “slick sleeve” for as long as you can remember is to firmly hold onto a dream. For Diana, that dream is what she’s been promised for the day she retires: her alpha to finally come claim her and to take her to a real home of her own. That dream is a flickering candle in the dark of her cell, where she spends a lot of time with her beta caretaker, Dex, whom she loves but knows he deserves more from life than to be tied to the same omega he’s been tending to for years. All of that changes the day the facility brings in a live alpha subject to trigger a larger amount of slick production and he breaks out of the facility with both Diana and Dex in tow.

Slick is a little of a departure for Collins, as I believe this was published in serial format and then compiled and edited into a full-length novel for her new Grayverse, where the alphas will go full scorched-earth for their scent matches, the plots are darker than normal, and the spice will have you panting.

There’s a lot to love about Slick, but I did have a couple of small complaints: I can’t stand the use of the word “gash” as a euphemism for vagina and I found some of Diana’s dialogue during the spicy scenes to feel unrealistic and contrived. Both of these things yanked me right out of the story every time they happened. What I did love was the plot itself and how it ended up turning our poor, naive omega into an accidental hot potato. When she wasn’t being taken away, she was being moved to keep from being taken away. I also loved Rowan, the male omega, who brought so much color and life to the whole story. Without him I think it would’ve fallen flat.

I understand there will be more books in the Grayverse, and I welcome them, because this one had some top-notch kinks and that filthy talk I love so much. It was worth the read! 4⭐️

I felt like I wanted a bit of Omegaverse in between what I am reading, so this seemed like the perfect little escape. The concept of erasing someone's memories is gutting, but to keep them as a mere tool for profiting is absolutely outrageous. I appreciate the fact that the author raises such issues as it is unfortunately happening in real life as well, greed and the drive to obtain power regardless of the cost is yet another example of how inhumane we could be.

Usually, I do enjoy Roxy Collins' books, but sadly this one just did not work for me. The idea of forming a pack just kind of slipped here for me as few of the members were left kind of on the sideline.

However, the premise itself is rather interesting, so I hope that other readers enjoy the story.

Personally, this one was a miss for me. The story seemed jumbled and disjointed. The storyline (particularly the first third or so) was cheesy to the point of it being cringey. I have issues with main love interests being introduced far into the book (theres no relationship building and as a reader, we cannot properly become invested). There was a recurring storyline throughout the book that was never resolved. The book overall felt incomplete and not to the normal Roxy caliber I am used to.

I had to DNF this book. While the plot was good and I was loving the concept and idea of it, it felt rushed and the MFC being so naive to stop and feel and admire carpet while the two men with her were dodging guns and obviously breaking her out of somewhere bothered me. I can suspend disbelief to a lot of things, but her continued ignorance was annoying beyond repair.

Add on that at one point a mobster killed a woman but merely sedated one of her men? It didn’t make any sense. Plus there is only so much kidnapping I can handle. I’m 100% down for naive MFC but there is naive and then zero survival skills. Especially when she is doing things no naive girl would do. I just couldn’t finish it.

I was hooked. I could not put this book down. I was so engrossed in this story I couldn’t read it fast enough. The things I like best about any omega verse novels is the primal/basic instincts of the characters. It’s the primal urges, basic needs, instant recognition of mates and the bonding/claiming of pack mates. This story had all of this with the added bonus of an excellent plot. They were angst, betrayal, twists and turns and of course the base urges. Lots of spice and mystery to keep the reader intrigued . This is not a dark romance but it does deal with some heavy topics so I would advise heading the trigger warnings. I would highly recommend this book and this author.

One of the best omegaverse books I’ve read in a while. I really liked the premise and I was happy about how fast the action of the story came into play. It was really interesting how the FMC meets each of her mates. Her naivety, even though forced from a bad situation, is really cute and I like how her mates help her to learn and experience new things.

I recommend this to anyone who likes omegaverse books!

Urgh what can I say I was looking forward to reading this and the first couple of chapters were nice but I found out pretty quickly that the writing was NOT FOR ME💀
The story line had potential so I made myself finish the book but honest to god wished I just dnf’d it.
For me it’s a 2 ⭐️ and not a 1⭐️ bc I actually liked the character but tbh they were pretty 2 dimensional.
Nothing felt important and it was pretty boring.
This book could’ve been so good with the slick factory aspect and how morality and vanity played a big role in making all this happen BUT EVERYTHING FELT SO TRIVIAL AND I HAD NO STAKES IN THIS GAMES

In conclusion I think it was a bad book with potential and nice characters lmao

This story has all the feels, lies, hurt, betrayal ,kidnapping and all the hot stuff, knots, toys and slick all over .
But even I liked the protective Mmcs and the premisse of the story ,in my opinion, felt a bit rushed.
It could benefit of a more detailed world building.
In overall ,it's a good omegaverse with high steam.

Loved!

Slick was different than any other OV that I've read. I really enjoyed it. The fmc was relearning a world that she was isolated from for so many years. I loved her men and loved that she took up for them to the others. Her pack is a mix match pack, but love that they're all different. Again, very enjoyable, but wish it was longer, but thankful for no cliffhanger!

This one didn’t hit the spot for me. I found the whole thing quite depressing if I’m honest - I didn’t find the pack side of the book compelling enough to off set the darker side of the books with what Diana was going through in her capacity and being kidnapped etc. gutted because I’m a big fan of Roxy’s other OV books but this story just wasn’t for me.

Potential

The book had great potential, but the writing was all over the place and it was so fast-paced that it was really confusing when the dialogues appeared, the same with the scenes, and also why the hell the male omega wasn't bonded?

Good

This was a good Omegaverse book. Short and sweet. There were 2 male alphas, a male beta, a male omega and a female omega. I kept hoping for some mm action, but it never happened.

Pack (MFMMM; no M/M)
💕Diana, omega female sold to a slick facility who wiped her memories and brainwashed her
💕Dex, beta male carehandler/nurse appears to be the only one with common sense sometimes
💕Kade, alpha male OTT protective over Diana, embodiment of TOUCH HER AND LITERALLY DIE/WHO DID THIS TO YOU?! energy; best friend & former bodyguard to Jake
💕Rowan, male omega ex-poяnstar comfortable in his body and determined to introduce Diana to all the things she’s interested in (kink or otherwise) that she’s never been exposed to
💕Jake, male alpha Governor, best friend to Kade with conflicted emotions towards Diana

“From the moment she was shipped here at sixteen, she ceased to be a person in the eyes of the people who run The Serenity Center. Not only did they erase her memories of her prior life, but they reduced her to a single purpose: the manufacture of omega secretions, known as slick.”

The first in a new series of Grayverse books by Roxy Collins, 'Slick' is about an Omega who was sold off to a facility that harvests an Omega-only commodity called slick. The facility promises Diana that her ‘deposits’ will one day lead to finding her Alpha, what she wants more than anything.

The characters are well mostly well developed and it's easy enough to differentiate between their personalities and why they make the decisions and actions that they do. They all experience growth from start to finish, and we see the journey for each of them. Kane gradually makes space for Dex & Rowan. Dex continues to feel guilty about his part in Diana’s captivity (let’s call it was it is) but his tenderness and love toward Diana is evident that he wants her free to finally make her own choices. Rowan took a second look at his occupation after Diana revealed tragic news and decided to quit and set boundaries for himself. And Jake...it takes him a minute to figure out what he really wants. The realistic responses he initially has towards Diana make sense once you realize why he initially responds the way he does. He knows he screwed up big time, and how he tries to do right by Diana even though he knows she deserves better than him, shows just how much he wants to be and do better for her. Mostly he learns that if he truly wants a love/pack life, he needs to learn to balance his work better.

My main issue is that it feels like two of the characters needed to be more ingrained into the story. Jake was introduced at the end of the middle, and then ran off and we don’t see him for a while only for him to disappear again before the ending. He seemed like a courting kind of Alpha, so seeing him nervously plan gifts or dates would have rounded him out nicely.

almost feels like an after-thought at one point. We never learned what More omega lessons or what have you, could have been an easy way to further bonding between Rowan & Diana and could have also been utilized to build on Rowan’s history and his omega life, which would be different than what Diana experienced. Feeling a disconnect with two of five characters wasn’t great, especially when most of the book-plot, theme, and intrigue-was good.

The scenes where Rowan has Diana trying out new things to see what she likes are probably my FAVORITE parts of the book (she discovers some enjoyable kinks, too. 😏). While she's naive about a lot-I'm sure having your memory wiped and being lied to for 8 years will do that to a person-Diana is also stubborn and caring, and with her pack learns to love herself for herself, and ask for what she wants (without coming off as whiney or annoying).

Speaking of personalities, Rowan's sassiness towards Kane brings out a more sentimental side as he and Dex grow on him and IT'S CUTE AF.

"You're a little shit, but you're a loyal one, and that's better than being squeaky clean in my books." -Kade

The story was unique and enjoyable, albeit different from other books I’ve read by her (i.e. Billionaires in Heat series, Pack Companion series), with more cursing and violence by far, and as usual, some spicy spice (knots in a moving vehicle, anyone? How about an Omega's first heat?) Slick is her first book that delves into the morally gray genre-Kane alone could rep that-and I’m looking forward to how the author moves forward creating and adapting to this newest universe in the next book.

Some particularly cute happenings to look out for:
☕️ Diana's firsts not all being great
🛣 embracing Diana's kink for uniforms
😑 Making fun of someone's lack of hair braiding skills (and it's not Diana)
🫣 Diana surprising a few someones by not actually being a damsel in distress
😏 Sometimes literal interpretations are the best interpretations
🤵 Jake accidentally unlocking a new turn-on with Diana
🛁 Flowers.
🥳 Insulting your enemy with your happiness
