A steamy Pro Football, Best Friends to Lovers, Fake Relationship Romance from Amazon Top Ten Bestselling author Lisa Suzanne.
When my ex exposes my secret romance pen name to my students and my world unravels, I turn desperately to the one person who’s always had my back: my childhood best friend Miller Banks. The pro football running back drops everything, leaving in the middle of his wild Vegas birthday party to be by my side.
With my life in shambles back home, Miller invites me to stay with him in San Diego, offering both a sanctuary and a chance to pursue my writing career since my teaching days are over. It’s the perfect setup with the ultimate book boyfriend, though we’ve never crossed that line and never will.
But then I make the mistake of telling my mother that Miller and I are in a relationship, and we tell my ex that we’re engaged. Thankfully Miller plays along, grabbing me into the kind of steamy, soul-shattering kiss I can’t stop thinking about.
As I watch my new roommate work out and cook dinner, it’s becoming harder to ignore the chemistry simmering between us. Especially when our “engagement” hits the media and we’re forced to be a happy couple in public, further blurring the line between real and fake.
We can’t cross that line. I have to continue resisting the running back. If I don’t, we could both lose the very thing that matters most to us.

Resisting the Running Back (The Nash Brothers #5) by Lisa Suzanne
5/5 stars
Goodness gracious, Lisa Suzanne is by far my favorite sports/football romance writer. She absolutely nailed and wrote another all-consuming love story. The tension, chemistry, longing and lusting was so palpable right from the first page onwards. It sizzled and turned into an enormous fire that burned me whole. I love, love, love this book!
This is the last book in The Nash Brothers series and in this one we follow Miller Banks and Sophie. They have been the best of friends ever since high school. And Miller has loved her from the second he laid eyes upon her. For Sophie it wasn't instant. But the fire between them started burning quite early on. And both were never willing to sacrifice their friendship for a relationship.
But things change when Sophie breaks up with her boyfriend Tyler. Sophie is a teacher and in an act of revenge, Tyler posts on her student board that she writes erotic romance novels. Nobody knows she is an author except Tyler and Miller. Sophie gets called and an investigation is launched. She is completely overwhelmed and calls her best friend. Miller instantly leaves his and his twin brother's 30th birthday party and flies over to her.
Miller encourages her to resign her job, focus completely on her writing career and move with him to San Diego. Sophie drops some of her stuff at her mother's place. And because she doesn't want to show her pain she exclaims that she's in love with Miller and that they are getting married. Miller's hearts burst with joy and he readily plays along. And that first kiss they share, it sets them both on fire.
But they aren't ready to give it. Both are too scared to break their friendship. But every look is filled with lust and hope and complete adoration. And when Sophie's mouth exclaims to someone they are getting married soon things accelerate quickly between them. They go shopping for an engagement ring. And every kiss and touch in public makes them want more.
And then that fire erupts, they give in and they embrace it wholly. Well.. the s*x part! Both hate that they cannot claim the other one wholly in private. But their love and lust grows and expands on each and every page. This book is written so brilliantly that I literally felt every single touch they shared. It was written that passionately.
But then something happens... and things turn around. I loved that even though they distanced themselves a bit from each other, they didn't give up on the other one. They were hesitant and scared. But they never broke up and no needless pain was invoked. And I think that was the beauty and power of their relationship and this magnificent book.
5 huge stars from me for Resisting the Running Back! I think this might be my favorite Lisa Suzanne book so far!! Cannot wait to read her upcoming books. ♥
*Resisting the Running Back* by Lisa Suzanne delivers a well-written, steamy friends-to-lovers romance with all the tropes fans of the genre will expect—fake relationship, forced proximity, and sizzling chemistry. The premise is engaging: Sophie Summer’s secret pen name is exposed, and her pro football star best friend, Miller Banks, steps in to help her pick up the pieces. The setup promises plenty of drama and heart, and Lisa Suzanne’s writing style flows smoothly, making it easy to follow the story.
However, despite the solid writing and likable characters, I found myself swimming through the pages, eager to get ahead rather than savoring the journey. The pacing lagged in places, and the plot felt a bit predictable, with many familiar beats that didn’t quite surprise or excite me. While the romance between Sophie and Miller is sweet and believable, the story didn’t fully hook me or keep me invested in their outcome.
Overall, *Resisting the Running Back* is a decent read for fans of sports romance and the best friends-to-lovers trope, but it didn’t quite stand out for me. A good pick if you’re looking for something familiar and comforting, but not one that left a lasting impression.
So here's my feeling on this one. It's not that I didn't like it. I just thought this trope or story was twisted to make so many issues that were unnecessary. Here you have 2 people that have been in love with each other for virtually their entire adult lives. They've also been best friends since high school. They have a foundation for a future relationship, but they can't get out of their own heads. Hence, another issue I have. Too much inner dialogue. I'll find myself skimming through page after page. And the worst part is when one character asks the other character a question, and it's two pages of inner dialogue before they finally answer, and I have to go back and see what the question was. You wait and wait and wait for the "I love you" and these came very early on because of their history and relationship, but the author has found reasons to draw out the story with complications. My third issue with this one is the whole, "I can't be in a real relationship because of my job". So many occupations require time away from home and family. Whether it's meetings, travel, long work hours, etc. Bring an athlete is no different than any other job when it comes to time needed to focus on your occupation. I could understand the "best friends sibling" or "He/she works for me or He/she is the child of my boss". There are so many situations where being together could be an issue. HERE, they literally set a wedding date ands EVERYONE knows about their relationship. It's soooooo not fake from the get go. I don't know. I did enjoy it, but I rolled my eyes A LOT.
Dnf @ 24% - FMC is stupid, causes problems and PR/public chaos ensues, repeat every book
I think I've finally met my limit and have to give up on Lisa Suzanne books. I cannot get past the fact that I already think Miller is WAY too good for the FMC, who is so despicably idiotic that I can't even remember her name. How many completely horrible choices can one person make in like 50 pages? I lost count to be blunt. If your focal female character in female centric literature is going to be trash, your book is trash.
If you're looking for a sports romance that delivers heart, heat, and high emotional stakes, the Nash (and Banks!) Brothers series finale hits the mark.
Grayson Nash is everything you want in a romance hero: brooding, misunderstood, and smoulderingly attractive. But it’s his vulnerable side, reserved mostly for Ava, that truly makes him stand out. That said, this story belongs just as much to Ava. She’s strong, independent, and so relatable that it was easy to root for her from the very beginning. She made this story shine. I absolutely loved her.
The friends-to-lovers dynamic between Ava and Grayson is handled with refreshing depth. Ava isn’t your typical swooning heroine often found in friends-to-lovers dynamics. She has her own fears and boundaries, especially when it comes to risking a long-standing friendship. Her emotional hesitancy felt incredibly real and grounded, making her growth all the more rewarding. Watching her navigate that inner conflict was one of my favourite parts of the book.
Their chemistry? Off the charts. The tension? Deliciously slow-burning. The “pretending it’s just for show” setup added layers of emotional complexity, making the eventual payoff so much sweeter. What made the romance feel especially authentic was Ava’s strength within the relationship. She challenges Grayson, calls him out, and stands her ground. She is never a passive participant. She is always engaged and actively shaping their story.
The banter between them felt natural, funny, and exactly what you’d expect from longtime friends with real history. I laughed out loud more than once, which added a great balance to the emotional depth. Lisa Suzanne really captured that sense of shared history. It never felt forced or overly scripted.
The pacing was strong overall, though there were moments when I wanted to shout, “Just talk to each other already!” But honestly, that tension made the resolution even more satisfying. Without spoiling anything, the emotional climax had me in pieces, in the best way.
I’m sad to see the Nash-Banks Brothers series come to an end, but this was a fantastic conclusion to their journey as a family. It has all the steam, emotion, and swoon I look for in a romance. I will absolutely be recommending it to anyone who enjoys a sports romance with high stakes and high heat.
If you’re a fan of slow-burn tension, emotionally rich characters, and a heroine who holds her own, this is a must-read. Lisa Suzanne knows how to craft chemistry you can feel and characters you genuinely want to root for. And that teaser for the next series? Consider me hooked.
This can’t be the end of the Nash Brothers….ehhh half brother Miller Banks on this one but his dad was Eddie Nash so it’s ok but I am devastated that we have come to an end.
This is book #5 and where we see Sophie and Miller who have best friends forever (since they were 14 and they are now hitting their 30th birthdays. They never get their chance at romance because the timing has just never been right between the two of them but neither of them wanted to admit their feelings for the other and risk their friendship. So, they have both been drifting through life wanting the other to be more romantic but never speaking up. And we find communication is an issue with these two throughout the storyline. However, this time its forced and they quickly land into a fake relationship to protect Sophie as her ex spills her secret of being a romance author in the worst way possible and Sophie has her high school teaching job put on suspension pending investigation. Miller jumps in with this plan to protect her from her conservative family that don’t know about her being a romance author and recommends she come live with him to give herself a chance to be a full time author and reach for her dreams. However as they spend a lot of time together and grow closer, there is a deadline looming as they have announced an engagement, picked a wedding date, put a ring on it and there is just chaos before Miller has to report to Football training camps and get ready for the new NFL season to start. Lack of communication causes issues that they never encountered before as friends along with some unexpected twists.
You get cameos of the other Nash brothers and their family in this one which is awesome to continue on their stories as well but this can be read as a standalone. I love the two characters and how some of the secrets start coming out to family members but also how the two grow even closer (super steamy/spicy) and cross that friendship line. But can you ever go back once you have crossed that line? You have to read to find out what happens but Miller is definitely book boyfriend material and my absolute favorite of all the Nash brothers in the series.
This is the final book in the Nash Brothers series.
Miller Banks has been secretly in love with his best friend Sophie since they met when they were 14. Not wanting to mess up their friendship, he has always kept his feelings to himself and never told her how he felt. When Sophie breaks up with her boyfriend and needs a friend Miller immediately jumps in to help. He offers her a place to live and support while she figures out what she is going to do next. Sophie has a strained relationship with her parents is keeping her successful secret writing career from her them. In order to explain her sudden move to San Diego so they don’t find out that her ex has outed her as an author to her students, she tells her mom she is in love with Miller and they are getting married.
The lie just keeps growing and growing as Miller and Sophie are not only faking a relationship but planning a fake wedding to keep up the ruse once it hits the media.
But with Sophie living with him, they are spending more time together. Faking a relationship is crossing lines they both swore they would never cross. Miller is having a hard time fighting his feelings for Sophie. Sophie begins to realize that her feelings for Miller go deeper than just friendship. Miller has always been her biggest supporter, her confidant, and is always there when she needs something. It makes her realize Miller could be her real life book boyfriend.
Miller and Sophie made a really cute couple. The relationship did move fairly fast which isn’t entirely surprising because they have so many years of friendship and they know each other so well. It was a long time coming as both had feelings that they had been struggling to ignore for years. I loved how supportive Miller was of Sophie’s dream to be an author. I have absolutely loved following along with the Nash brothers as they continue to settle down when they find love. Lisa always weaves past characters into each new book so well allowing the reader to get glimpses into their favorite characters now books later. This is something I love the most about her books. This series had a really great assortment of characters to keep you entertained. I loved that all the brothers made an effort to spend time together with their families in this book 🧡.
I have only ever listened to Lisa’s books on audio and as usual it did not disappoint. Resisting the Running Back is an easy to listen to, friends to lovers, sports romance.
This is part of a series of interconnected standalone’s. So while you can read this without reading the rest of the series I do highly recommend reading the other books to really understand the secondary characters and the relationships with the MC’s.
Thank you to Lisa Suzanne and Valentine PR for the opportunity to receive an alc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The Nash Brothers are coming to an end with Miller Banks finally shooting his shot with his best friend Sophie Summers as they find themselves in a fake engagement.
Resisting the Running Back is the 5th book in the series by Lisa Suzanne and while it could be enjoyed as a stand alone, it will make much more sense and be enjoyed more if read in order.
I adore Miller and Sophie so much- I loved the ease of their friendship, I loved just how much Miller pined for and cared for Sophie that he would do essentially anything to make her happy while also being her rock and biggest cheerleader. I loved how even though Sophie was just trying to create a story to hide her problem she somehow escalated it into everything Miller could have ever wanted. BUT, the thing that absolutely drove me crazy was this one thing... Miller and Sophie are a classic miscommunication trope.
I low key hate miscommunication tropes. It makes me want to chuck my kindle across the room while screaming at the characters that literally 99% of their problems would be solved if they literally just stopped assuming things and actually spoke to each other instead of pretending everything is hunky-dory.
Now that's not to say that Miller and Sophie's story wasn't enjoyable or anything- it in fact was enjoyable. Not only that it was fun, sexy with some book boyfriend perfection sprinkled in. I loved when all the Nash-Banks brothers got together and all the love and support that family gives. I'm just saying that for me, personally, I wanted to climb inside the book and shake both Miller and Sophie for all the unnecessary angst.
Luckily for everyone these two finally get on the same page and all the dramas are rectified. But now the Nash-Banks brothers are all paired off and I have to patiently wait for the new guy that Lisa teased me with!!
I couldn't wait to read Resisting the Runningback after reading Quitting the Quarterback! Friends to lovers is my favorite trope, so I knew it would be a good one! Miller is an NFL player who just turned 30. He's loved his best friend Sophie since the day he met her but has been stuck in the friend zone. When he gets a call from Sophie while celebrating his 30th birthday in Vegas, he hops on the first flight out to be with her. Sophie is a teacher and lives with her boyfriend. She's also a secret romance writer who uses a pen name. Only her boyfriend and Miller know that she's really an author. When she breaks up with her boyfriend, he uses her computer to out her as a romance novelist to her entire school. She receives a call from the principal telling her not to come into work the next day. Miller convinces Sophie to come back to live with him and work on her writing. She agrees and when they go to tell her patents, Sophie blurts out that they're engaged. Miller goes along with it and the more they pretend to be a couple, the more they discover they want it to be true!
I devoured this book! The tension and spice leads to an incredible story ♥️ The Nash brothers have my heart. This series is one of my favorite sport romance series!
Running right into my heart… like I knew he would!
Miller Nash stole my heart from start to finish! I absolutely loved how he cares so deeply about Sophie. No matter what happened, people they dated in-between, or set backs between them they always came back together over the years… the best type of friendship that can only build into a naturally strong relationship. Loved!!!
Miller is this super strong man, at least that's what many see from the outside, but Sophie knows so much more. When she needed him most he was there and then the pieces just fell perfectly. I love that she's an author and has felt as though she has had to hide it from her other job. But when everything comes crashing down… it's the perfect storm.
Ultimately this couple and Lisa’s stories are so on point. I have loved the Nash brothers as well as the Banks and I look forward to more from Lisa <3 A must read!
Firstly Thank you to Lisa Suzanne for the ARC copy of Resisting The Running Back ❤️
I really enjoyed this book, Sophie and Millier were lovely characters and made me laugh alot! It was good being back in the world of the twins and seeing what Tanner and Cassie had been upto aswell.
I did find a couple of parts a bit lacking and found myself getting bored but it soon picked up again and wouldn't deter me from recommending this book or series to anyone. If you love a good romance with friends to lovers then this is a book for you 💜
Thank you again for the ARC copy, I really enjoyed the book and will definitely be reading more of Lisa's books 📚
Narration: I thought both the male and female narrators were well suited for these characters. Both their voices carried a mature tone, with the male voice bringing a richness to it, that seemed very befitting for the age range they would be. Enjoyable listening
Description: After a bad breakup Sophie's first call is to her football playing childhood best friend Miller. Her now ex-boyfriend ruined her teaching career by revealing Sophie's pen name (exposing her smutty novels) to all her students. With her temporary suspension from teaching it's a no brainer to move in with Miles to regroup.
Miles has always had a crush on his best friend but the timing never seemed right to tell her. Now that's Sophie's living under his roof he can just show her. When Sophie tells her mom she's dating Miles to save face, Miles is all too happy to play the part of fake boyfriend. But can he finally get her to see him as something more for real?
Review: I'm a fan of the childhood best friend/crush trope. It comes with this built in history that enables the reader to feel the chemistry from earlier on. Sophie and Miles did have chemistry and they made a cute couple, it just fell a little flat to me- the years behind them should've flamed the fire and while there def was heat it wasn't quite where I'd imagined it should be (with all that pent up lust Miles had to have had). Miles was the best book boyfriend, a hot football player who was sweet and caring and present, so it didn't make sense to me how Sophie never saw him as anything more until now. Those things aside, this was a fun light escape and overall enjoyable read
Wow!! This was an amazing friend to lovers’ book that was impossible to put down. Miller and Sophie have always been friends and Miller is someone that Sophie could talk to no matter what. So when she leaves her boyfriend, it is Miller who takes her in and helps her accomplish her goal of being a full-time romance author.
Ms. Suzanne did a fantastic job of telling their story and had me on the edge of my seat wondering when they would both admit their true feelings for each other. This book melts your heart and your panties at the same time.
This was awesome sports friends to lovers’ story that I highly recommend.
Wow! What a read. This is brilliant. I love Miller, he’s the sort of guy that women want. Sweet and loving on the outside and just that little bit dirty on the inside; A great mixture of sweet and sexy. Sophie is a strong woman and I like the fact that she doesn’t conform to suit her new life. Together they are kindling and honestly… considering the spice factor, I am so surprised that they didn’t get together years ago! This is wonderful and has everything that you need to make it a great read. This is a well deserved 5 stars!
🧡 Friends-to-lovers 💚 author x NFL running back 🧡 fake engagement 💚 forced proximity 🧡 he falls first
Satisfying ending to the Nash brother series. When Sophie breaks up with her boyfriend, he exposes her as a romance writer to the school she teaches at. Distraught, Sohpie calls her best friend Miller. Miller has secretly been in love with Sophie since they met in high school English class. When Miller rescues her, he reminds her of the marriage pact they made, and he convinces her to move in with him so she can pursue writing full time. When Sophie confronts her ex, she blurts out that they are engaged. Lines between friendship love and romantic love get blurred.
Being completely transparent, I read this because I needed a quick sports romance for Summer Reading Bingo. I'd probably give it a 3. Best friends to lovers. He fell first. Cute, but not something I'll return to.
@authorlisasuzanne you have done it again! Miller and Sophie are 🤌🏼 the chemistry between them was sooooo fluid and the way he was so down bad for her? my god.
this is the book for you if you love -football romance -childhood best friends -fake dating -found family -forced proximity -he falls first
thank you to @authorlisasuzanne and @valentine_pr_ for the ARC!!

Another great book by Lisa Suzanne. Miller and Sophie’s story is heartfelt, sexy, and fun. I enjoyed hearing their love story.
Friends for years but never making a move and it just was never the right time. Until now. Miller is a reliable and great friend to Sophie who has had a thing for her since they were younger. Sophie never thought about Miller that way but now that he has come to her aid she is starting to realize maybe he is the one she’s needed all these years.
This was a great read and a fabulous conclusion to this series.
Thanks to Valentines PR for selecting me for this ARC. And a HUGE!!! thank you to the wonderful author for writing this amazing book. THANK YOU!!! ❤❤❤
Miller and Sophie.
If anybody knows me, they know I love me some Nash Brothers and this being the last of their books, I'm not crying you are! Okay Okay I'm actually really sad and may have shed a few tears, ESPECIALLY after reading the last word of the book. My Lisa Suzanne journey started with one Mr. Lincoln Nash and Mrs. Jolene Nash so when I say I LOVE the Nash Brothers, I mean I. FREAKING. LOVE. THE. NASH. BROTHERS.
So when it came to Miller, it was no different. He might not have been a Eddie and Missy child BUT he's still a Nash and still as amazing as his brothers. I loved he and Sophie's friendship and how it turned romantic. I love how they supported each other through EVERYTHING and how no matter what he always showed up for each other. She goes through a terrible breakup; and the ex was disgusting, didn't like him one bit, and Miller shows up for her. They go through their entire friendship and fake relationship having such STRONG feelings for each other and it always seemed like bad timing with them. But they were willing to be by each others side even when in different relationships and when they were apart. I loved when things started to heat up and you could see when things started to fall in place and then BOOM! the love volcano erupted and I was here for it. The entire cruise was FANTASTIC because on that cruise we learnt alot, we got drama, we got a Missy scene that I was OBSESSED with and I have to say before reading this book, I was hoping to actually see that so I'm happy Lisa did that for her because she DESERVES it. I loved how we got to see kind of a breakdown between Miller and Sophie but at the same time they think about each other along the way. Miller made up for that and they both reassured each other. I was obsessed with them. Oh and let's not ever forget that Sophie is a book girlie because she was an author herself and she always said how Miller was her PERFECT book boyfriend and I have to freaking agree.
Overall I give this book a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5. I mean that's no surprise but I don't just give the book a five star because I love the Nash Brothers but because the book is just that incredible and so well written. And can we talk about how close Sophie got to Jolene, Ava, Grace, Desi and Cassie? It was just amazing to see because she really didn't have anybody in her corner so seeing them being there for her was beautiful. And then the cameos from the brothers because HELLO Spencer I see you and I just need you now lol. I'm sorry about that he's my fave and I cant get over him lol. But anyway, I loved seeing the brothers and the advice they gave Miller and I loved seeing how close they got in just a year and a half. Plus, Miller and Tanner were a sight to see because they really did have that bond. Even though they didn't grow up around the other brothers, they still had each other and they had amazing parents. I didn't like seeing Miller struggle with possibly turning out like Eddie but Tanner was there to reassure him and NONE of those brothers would ever turn out to be like Eddie. He wasn't the worse parent in the world but he wasn't great either but those Nash Brothers grew up with strong moms and a great father figure so they would be okay. I really enjoyed reading Miller and Sophie's story because friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes so this was a great ending to the series. In the end, Sophie couldn't resist the running back and Miller couldn't resist his bestfriend who he's been inlove with since he was fourteen.
We started this entire Nash Brothers journey with friends to lovers to enemies to friends to lovers again and now we're ending with friends to lovers. It's been a FABULOUS journey with these brothers. *chefs kiss* ALL AROUND. I will miss them but I know that we'll possibly see Spencer, Tanner and Miller a bit because the next series will have a teammate and that'll be very interesting, I can't wait for that.
So long Nash Brothers, you will FOREVER have a piece of my heart. ❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰

MILLER BANKS AND SOPHIE SUMMERS STORY.
Miller Banks 🏈 the pro baller who has been in love with his best friend when they were 14 years old has finally found a way to making his move out of the friend zone. But there’s so many things that could go Erin and losing his Best friend is not one of them.
Sophie Summers 📚 The middle school teacher whose world imploded overnight reached out to the one person who is always there for her Mill-B. He is the only one who can get her through this. But ending up being engaged, living together and starting having feelings wasn’t how she thought they would end up.
An unexpected accident happened… Miller and Sophie happy bubble literally popped… but one thing I loved about this couple is that they don’t let any problem they face stew for long.. or so I thought as Sophie struggles with her new life with Miller, and the secret she holds from a guy she never thought she could hide anything from… and trust me this one is going to be huge, while Miller also have struggles of his own involving his new relationship and his career.
It was completely new territory for Miller and Sophie both as they navigate through their fake relationship, but if you know Lisa Suzanne then you know this book is filled with all sorts of shenanigans, secrets, twists and for me the infuriating FMC with all kinds of crazy stuff floating in their heads. But to be honest Sophie wasn’t all that bad.. and her and Miller ended up with more than they bargin for!
🎧📚🎧 Kelsey NavarroFoster and Tor Thom were perfectly cast to bring these characters to life, they have been consistent with delivering Miller and Sophie Characters to life. Their portrayal of each character has been excellent, as Kelsey NavarroFoster ace it as Sophie, portraying every aspect of her personality and character. While Tor Tom did the same as Miller and was equally amazing, by showcasing the characters personality and demeanor to perfection. Especially the scene where a secret was revealed about Missy Nash! Tor delivery was jaw droopingly hilarious! Their tone and pacing was just right for the story while capturing all the characters’ emotions with great detail. These two made a fabulous team, they complemented each other with an entertaining performance that was so good I only wish it was Duet style. ( where female characters are voice by female and male by male)
But any way, Absolutely recommend listening to this one!
Be sure to add this to the rest of your collection as we get to see listen more of the Nash’s and the Banks brothers who complete their family!

I am crying writing this review. I’m so sad to be saying goodbye to the Nash brothers. These brothers and their family have become so engrained in my brain and in my soul. Lisa Suzanne really wrote some amazing men. They are all flawed in their own way, because who isn’t…but they learn and they grow…and the love fiercely. They all know what kind of man they DON’T want to be after seeing what their mothers went through at the hands of their father and what they all went through personally, especially Miller and Tanner. I love how they are so cognisant of it and every decision they make, they know they want to be better and do better…which makes them even more loveable.
Miller is the last of the Nash brothers and he just might be the ultimate book boyfriend, just ask Sophie😉
Sophie and Miller have been best friends since they were 14…and Miller has been in love with Sophie just as long, but always in the friend zone and afraid of making a move and losing Sophie forever. They make a pack when they are teens…if they aren’t married by the age of 30, then they will marry each other. One of those cute things you do with your best friend but never expect to happen…but it just might in this case.
Sophie is headed towards her 30th birthday when her whole life falls apart. Sophie breaks up with her trash can of a boyfriend and as retaliation, he exposes to her school where she’s a teacher, that she’s a spicy romance novel, and reveals the pen name she’s been writing under. Ultimately ending her teaching career and leaving her life in shambles. I literally want to punt this man to another planet. Men. Just…MEN…their fragile egos. JFC 😒
Sophie calls Miller as he’s celebrating his birthday and lets him know what’s happened in a panic and this man doesn’t even BLINK! He’s on the next plane to her and offering her an opportunity she can’t refuse. Move in with him and focus on writing full time…seriously ?? Where’s my Miller?!!? 😩😩 She agrees, but when confronted by her mother and her ex, she lies and says that her and Miller are engaged. Whoopsie! This begins the fake dating/engagement between these two.
They both realise the depth of their feelings of each other and I loved watching them move from friends to lovers. Miller loves Sophie so much it made my heart clench. He saw her…REALLY saw her…and the way Millers family, his brothers and their wives all rallied around the two of them and gave Sophie that family she’s always wanted. She’s never had anyone on her side besides Miller…now she has the whole Nash clan and it’s better than anything she could have imagined.
There is a bit of miscommunication and things get messy…but honestly…it made sense. Millers been dancing around his feelings for Sophie for YEARS…and Sophie is coming to the realisation that her heart has always belonged to Miller…so there is that fear and trepidation of saying the wrong thing or not saying enough. But eventually they get through it and are stronger for it in the end.
I loved how we got to see EVERYONE in this book, all the family. All the brothers and their ladies…it was a total full circle moment. This book truly was about realising that sometimes things need to fall apart in order for what’s meant for you to find you. Not just in love, but in life.
Thank you so much Lisa Suzanne for bringing these incredible characters and phenomenal family into our lives. The Nash brothers will live in my heart forever 🧡
Thank you to Lisa Suzanne and VPR for the absolutely insane privilege of being able to ARC read not just this book but every book in the series. It’s truly been an honour.🧡

Man did I really want to like this book, but it didn't hit the spot for me. I was looking forward to Miller's story because I enjoyed him in the previous books and wanted to see him and Sophie get their happily ever after because there is nothing more satisfying than a friends to lovers trope. Since Miller had been in love with her for years, I felt like this book could have gone through the dreaded 'miscommunication trope' where if they just sat down and talked they would easily be together. While there was some of this in the beginning of the book, the entire story wasn't one long miscommunication which I appreciated.
The first problem was that I really didn't believe in their friendship. There was a lot of talk about them being 'there for each other' and friends for 15+ years but there wasn't enough backstory to make it believable. There weren't a lot of memories talked about or inside jokes that the two of them shared to show a deep connection. It seemed like it was more Miller giving time and effort to their relationship and Sophie just going along for the ride. She was in a relationship with another guy for two years and didn't seem to appreciate the type of friend she had in Miller until she was begging him to come save her.
And that brings me to my second problem with the book. I hated Sophie's character and her constant whining. At the beginning I liked her. She seemed like a badass quitting her job and giving up everything to go move in with Miller and start her writing career and following her dream. But as the story went on, she got more and more annoying and constantly whining about the way that Miller treated her when the 'conflict' started between the two of them. She whined about how he didn't have time for her during training camp. She expected him to have no fun at training camp and acted like a child not answering his phone calls or texts because she heard some people in the background of a previous call. It was just another reason to not believe in their friendship because if they were truly best friends after 15+ years she would have had a heck of a lot more faith in his character than she did. She also whined about feeling abandoned. She's been 'friends' with him his entire professional career. So if they were as close as they claimed she would know exactly what training camp is all about and how unavailable he would be to communicate with her. He would have 'abandoned' her each year for the 7+ years he was in the league prior to this so Sophie had no excuse treat him the way that she did and constantly whine about it.
Lastly, I am a big fan of spicy books so don't get me wrong on this comment, but I felt like this book had too much. There were so many spicy scenes that they made their relationship based mostly on sex with no real emotion. A few less spicy scenes and more deep conversations or reminiscing about their past could have helped grow and develop the relationship/connection better. It felt like their connection was based more on lust instead of love.

Resisting The Running Back The Nash Brothers, Book 5 By: Lisa Suzanne Narrated by: Kelsey NavarroFoster, Tor Thom
Lisa Suzanne does it again and pens another amazing novel, an enthralling friends-to-lovers fake relationship sports romance that captivates your attention the entire time. I have been loving this series, enjoying each of the Nash & Banks brothers’ stories, with one just as amazing as the other. This book is Miller Banks’ story, twin to Tanner from the previous book and half brother to the Nash brothers of the first three books. Their books stand on their own, and I recommend them all, sports romance at its finest. Miller and Sophie have been best of friends for years, though Miller would have liked to be more than that, but the timing was never right and he did not want to cross a line that may jeopardize the friendship they have. While out celebrating his 30th birthday with his twin brother, he gets a call from an upset Sophie, and he immediately books a flight to go to her. Thanks to her now ex, Sophie’s life gets turned upside down, but Miller comes and saves the day by supporting her and encouraging to pursue her writing career, like a good friend does. And with Miller at her side, she can do anything, even coming clean about her pen name, knowing it won’t go over well with her parents, who are super conservative. It was great watching these two battle their feelings for the other, and complicating matters is telling her family they are in a relationship, a fake, not so fake, relationship that winds up blowing up on social media. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all plays out, with the perfect balance of drama, heartfelt emotions and a wonderful and quite steamy romance. As always, the writing, the plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. Lisa Suzanne, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Kelsey NavarroFoster and Tor Thom were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life, and they have been consistent with delivering exceptional performances throughout. Their portrayal of each character has been spot on, with NavarroFoster acing it as Sophie, grasping every aspect of her personality, and was great with her inner dialogue too. Thom did the same as Miller and was just as amazing, showcasing his personality and demeanor perfectly. Their tone and pacing was just right for the story and they captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These two made a fabulous team, with voices and talent that complemented each other and an entertaining performance that rivets you to the story.

Miller Banks, you’re up. I can’t believe I just read the last book in the Nash Brothers series. This series has been amazing, and it was my introduction to the world of the amazing Lisa Suzanne.
Every time I finished a book in this series, I'd say, “This brother is my new favorite.” I must admit, I love them all. But this book was my favorite. Friends-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes, and this one was just perfect. Miller has had it bad for Sophie since they were 14; everyone but Sophie knew it. Miller always shows up for Sophie, whatever she needs, and it’s proven to be true when he leaves his 30th birthday party in Vegas to go to Phoenix for her. I love a boy-obsessed story; make him a best friend, and it melts me. There is something about that one person who knows you the best, who you can’t live without, who turns out to be the love of your life. It’s just magical. Miller offers Sophie a chance to be her true self, live out her dream, and start anew. When they go to Sophie’s parents’ house to talk to her mom, Sophie stumbles over-explaining, and now her mother thinks she and Miller are engaged.
Sophie and Miller adjust pretty well to their “fake” engagement and living arrangements. Miller is wishing all along that this could be real but is afraid to open up about his feelings. Sophie starts having feelings as well, but just like Miller, she is afraid to open up. They don’t want to lose each other if it doesn’t work out. But once they give in to their feelings... 🔥🔥! Miller, you naughty-mouth twin. So much for being the “quiet brother.” They were fantastic together.
There’s not a third-act breakup, more like a third-act mini break thanks to our favorite friend, miscommunication. Well, more of a lack of communication. Even though they were apart, dealing with their fears and insecurities, they still wanted each other and were worried about losing one another. Once it gets resolved, the rest of the story flows beautifully.
I loved seeing all the brothers and their spouses from the previous books in this one. It was like a big family reunion for the last book. We got to meet new members of the Nash/Banks crew, and some I was ready to throw overboard, while others I was glad to keep. Overall, this was a wonderful end to a wonderful series. I’m going to miss the Nash Brothers. Maybe we will get a novella based on Missy Nash, the matriarch of this wonderful family. I am looking forward to Lisa’s next football series.
I don’t know why I spent so much time resisting the running back, but I sure love this little life that’s mine.
