As she continues to travel, Ivy grows closer to Druid. Their days are filled with laughter, silly little arguments, and even a more feminine version of Ivy! Yet trouble looms on the horizon when Ivy and her crew happen upon a village facing an abnormally harsh winter. With new people to meet, fire to sit by, and hungry bellies to fill, it looks like Ivy's work is cut out for them. Good thing they've got lots of friends to help keep warm!
Man, I loved this volume. I'm not sure if it just hit me at the exact right time, or if it felt like a genuine improvement compared to other volumes, because they've never been quite five stars for me. But this story is just so stinkin cute and peaceful, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself this time.
Winter has arrived unexpectedly early, forcing Ivy and Druid to press on to reach the next town over before it is too late. To make matters worse, they quickly learn the winter is unexpectedly severe, causing all kinds of issues to the villagers. Ivy's slimes do pose a potential solution, but the need to keep their presence (let alone their powers) a secret for her own safety don't make things easier.
Much like earlier volumes the story is an endearing and entertaining story, mostly slice-of-life, although there is an overarching mystery in regards to the cause of the winter (which is not resolved in this book). I really like the characters involved with especially Ivy slowly learning more about the world and to rely on help even if it is easy to fall back on old habits. The stuff is a bit corny at times, but I don't mind. What I did find a bit grating at times was Ivy planning something, it not getting any attention for a chapter or two, and then we suddenly return to it, because she "forgot". While that is all too familiar human behavior, it is is kind of grating to me in the written word. It just leaves me wondering what is going on or that I missed a few pages.
So, a good, if at times slow-paced story and solid continuation of the series.
The snake was interesting, but as usual one plot point gets dragged over several volumes. The message that they should keep smiling through tough times to not make others uncomfortable wasn't a good one.
Besides sometimes struggling with activities that clearly need two hands Druid seem to be doing more than fine, he's only missing one hand so I suppose he can still use the rest of the arm but there's never any explanation of how he can do so much so I keep forgetting he even has a disability (there's a moment where he's holding Flame and patting Ivy's head at the same time, I fail to see how that's possible with one hand). Why including it at all if it has basically no meaning for the story? There's a few times he starts feeling insecure because of it but the author could have just phrased it as him not knowing how to care for a child.
People started to notice she's a girl just because her hair grew a bit longer, it's implied it's never been much of a secret though. This series has the tendency to use real world names with the wrong gender, paired with the lack of physical descriptions it can become quite confusing. The artist also seems to be confused about what they look like since minor characters end up looking the same.
It was such a cozy read that i regret not having a cup of hot chocolate to drink while reading. Druid and Baluka were really funny trying to make Ivy wear cute clothes. I feel that everyone identified Ivy as a girl too quickly. The author wrote about the changes in Ivy's appearance, but aside from the hair i don't think this is a big enough indicator to say that Ivy is a girl. Also i remember back in Otolwa everyone saying that tea was expensive, but now tea is everywhere. Aside from that the book was amazing.

Unlike the other books in this series this one just ended before any mini arc was completed. New friends made and still fun interactions but was expecting any 9f the following to be addresses/resolved: 1. the leathal winter harming the town's residents. 2. further discovered as to the cause of the guardian being summoned and trapped.

Okay, that took me longer to finish this than I expected. But I'm finally done reading this. Well, that was a harsh winter for our characters. And also, new characters that they interacted since they were in a different village this time. But seriously, Ivy sure was getting attracted to a lot of strange creatures, huh? This volume just really proved it. 😁✌️
Ivy is such a little cinnamon roll!!!! She feels bad about taking money for helping people and encourages mental health in a struggling man. Druid can also get the sweet as sugar award for being a great first time dad.
I love this volume. I feel that Ivy is actin more as a child in this one which makes me really happy. She needs to enojoy life a little more and now that she has a dad...I am so happy for her. :,)
The past 2 books have been slow paced with not really anything exciting happening. Yes, I understand that fundamentals of life should be added, but some excitement yo would be nice. I'm hoping book 6 that's due out mid-April 2024 will be better, but I am seriously tempted to just drop this series. It's a shame as it stared off exciting with great potential this book wasn't even funny just blah
