First, let me say thank you to the author for allowing me to read the ARC for this book💗

*No Spoilers*

This book was amazing, apart from a few grammatical errors, the pace and plot of the story were perfection. I loved R. B.’s writing style. I honestly am so eager for the next book!! And the ending?!?! WHOLLY SHITTT I was not expecting that….

I truly did not connect with Dean AT ALL, like I wanted to slap him 90% of book and BAM- I freaking knew it

The ONLY reason this isn’t 5 stars is because the tension between Ingrid and Dean was LACKING but there was obviously a build up to their relationship so that was disappointing. Hopefully when it comes to Silan we get all that juiciness

Ingrid, our FMC, is an absolute bada** and I absolutely loved her personality and attitude. She was extremely relatable not only in how she coped with her trauma, day in and day out, working, staying busy, but by even getting tattoos to help work through her fears.

The beginning of the book kept me OBSESSED, needing to keep reading to see where the book was headed. Once we meet Dean and we are introduced to the actual plot of the book, you became entranced with this new world. So much depth and a great merge of present day with fantasy.

There were a few parts where there was some needed world building, in which I did SLIGHTLY lose interest, but was always quickly reeled back in.

The back half of the book was just scene after scene of pure fantasy, with sea monsters, gladiator games, magic, villainy and deceit. Plus, the story ended on a killer cliffhanger, that is making me salivate for the next book.

I absolutely loved it! And will be impatiently waiting for the next book in the series!

Ok. To start, I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was honestly great, the only drawback is now I have to wait even longer for the second book!
I love a good murder/stalker mystery AND it becomes a magical fantasy, two of my favorite genres mixed into one book!
It's kind of hard to pinpoint, but it's almost like the first chunk of the book (I would say like 50%), before the true plot gets going, is slow and there's a bit too much detail that maybe isn't necessary to the overarching plot. The pacing was difficult and I almost gave up on it because it was a lot of information, and not a lot of actual answers. I am glad I persevered though, because the second half of the book was awesome. A ton of action, a major twist at the most intimate of times, and the cliffhanger?! Please!
I'm so curious how things will go!
In terms of the characters- I love Ingrid. She's a tattooed gorgeous introverted badass, and she's smart as heck. I love that she's so witty and a quick problem solver, and maybe that's her power before her power showing through. I love that she's 27, and not the biggest hot headed illogical being lol. She makes some irrational choices because of emotion, but she did pretty good! I'm rooting for her! For the others.... I have mixed emotions. Only because I know what I know now. But Ingrid even had an itching suspicion early on, and I tend to agree. Truth can be tailored based on the voice that shares it, so I don't think our girl Ingrid has even a part of the whole story! Even now at the end of this book! But she will, that's her thing!
I'm also wondering about who I believe is the actual MMC... I don't want to spoil anything, but is the dark prince maybe not what he appears?! He's offensively handsome, we know this, so maybe he's not as bad as his reputation lets on? Hopefully?
Anyway, I loved this book. It needs a little work grammatically before the release, but I didn't mind, and totally recommend reading!

Firstly, thank you for letting me read the ARC of this book.
I found the book via TikTok and was curious about it and then found a link to where I could participate in an ARC reading for this book which exited me so much! I absolutely loved the idea for the book and I couldn’t wait to dive in. But here’s the thing. The first 60% or so of the book was really dragging. The book could’ve easily have been a few hundred pages shorter, and I fear that since the book is so extremely long this will easily be a DNF for many since it takes so long for the book to actually feel like it’s getting good. The first 60% feels like a massive info dump that somehow still lacks in any informative information. I’m really glad I pulled through the first 60% tho, because I really enjoyed the last 40%. But all in all this means I can’t really give the book any higher then a 3 star rating. I am however very excited for the next book in the series, and I feel the potential for that book to rank higher. I will continue with this series.

If I could give this 6 stars, I would! I loved this book so much! INGRID is one badass FMC and SYLAN don’t even get me started on him! As soon as he was introduced I was like… he’s gonna be one of my favorite characters in this series! The twists this had! My god, such a great book! I was so immersed and could picture everything so vividly. Such a well written book. Yes, there were a few typos in here, but that’s to be expected as it was an unedited eARC I received. An awesome epic dark fantasy with a slow burn romance subplot. It’s full of immortals, wraiths, cursed monsters and dark magic! I couldn’t put this down. I need book 2 ASAP! It left on quite the cliffhanger and I can’t wait for book 2 to come out. Will definitely be ordering a physical copy if/when they’re available! Thank you so much to R.B. Sturn for the opportunity to read this eARC. This is a definite top favorite of 2025!

ARC Review: 3.5 🌟

Firstly thank you so much R.B Sturn for the ARC Read. I'm so grateful for this opportunity and my first ever ARC!

This one took a little while to click for me, but chapter 5? It had me. The early chapters are packed with necessary information, but once we hit that turning point, the story took form beginning to unfold. While there were a few moments where the information felt overwhelming, the plot was plotting. I wouldn’t have minded a bit more romance, but I have a feeling book 2 might dive deeper into that or we could be in for the slowest of burns later in the series. I'm hopeful for some romance.

Our FMC, Ingrid. She’s mysterious, guarded, strong-willed, and not your typical damsel — which I loved. Her eyes and tattoos gave her a unique flair, and she’s clearly got a lot of growth ahead of her. The trauma she’s endured echoes through her actions and memories in a really realistic way. I do wish we’d seen a bit more of her nightmares — the ones we got helped deepen my understanding of her past, and I’m hoping more is explored in the next book. Ingrid refreshingly isnt eighteen shes in her mid twenties, 28 I believe if I remember correctly.

As this was an ARC, I expected a few grammar slips, and they didn’t detract from the experience at all.

The worldbuilding is rich, eerie, and brimming with mystery — like a beautiful place infected by something dark, a disease in its very roots. There’s a lot of information thrown at you, especially once we start learning about Elais. But honestly, that confusion almost felt intentional — mirroring Ingrid’s own overwhelm and uncertainty. It worked.

Raidinn and Tyla, the sibling duo, had a lot of potential, and while I liked them, I wanted to see more personality and presence from them earlier. Dean, too — I wasn’t sure how to feel about him at first. As the story progressed, their roles became more defined, but I still found myself questioning motivations, which I actually enjoyed. The dynamic gave off found-family vibes… but with an undercurrent of unease. Dean especially gave me shady energy, and after that ending? I'm even more curious about his intentions.

And then… Sylan. I’m obsessed. Mysterious, dangerous — he owns every scene he’s in. No romance yet, but I’m already rooting for him and Ingrid. I need more of him in book 2. Is he the villain? Or something entirely different?

From the 50% mark onward, the book really hits its stride. The pacing tightens, tension rises, and I genuinely didn’t want to put it down. The callbacks to early threads — especially the murder mystery and stalker plot — were so well-timed and satisfying. I didn’t realize how much I missed those pieces until they resurfaced, and it was executed perfectly.

One small note: Ingrid is described as having a temper, but I didn’t quite feel that in her behavior. She came off more strong-willed, reckless, and protective than hot-headed. Just something that stood out to me.

Final thoughts: The Shadowed Oracle is a strong start to this fantasy series. The worldbuilding is immersive, the mystery is layered, and the characters are intriguing — though I would’ve loved deeper development for some of them earlier on. A pronunciation guide would be a helpful addition, too. By the end, I was fully invested and already I'm excited to see what book 2 brings to the series.

R.B. Sturn has something here. If there’s an ARC for the next one, I'm so in. 🤞

Kicking things off with a HUGE thank you to R.B. Sturn for the opportunity to read an ARC of The Shadowed Oracle!

This story pulled me right in with its rich world-building—a refreshing dive into a realm, full of mysterious twists and layers. The characters kept me intrigued (and guessing), and that ominous, surprise ending? Didn’t see it coming.

A solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐ read, and I'm seriously grateful for the chance to experience it early.

If you love fantasy worlds that feel lived in and stories that hold secrets until the very end, keep your eyes on this one!

Mystery, fantasy, two worlds, hidden untapped powers.

Loved the pace and the world building in the first third of the book. Establishing Ingrid’s experiences in the human world first made jumping into the new world of Ealis much more powerful. The plot slowed down a bit once in Ealis due to all the new world building and training, but I enjoyed the level of detail and character development.

I definitely was eager for more of the story between Ingrid and the villain Sylan - it barely scratched the surface, I would have loved more chapters like the epilogue (which was fantastic)!

Impatiently anticipating book 2 and seeing where the story goes!

Mystery and fantasy! Say less!! The world building was intense but moved along nicely. Once you get into it I was hooked! The main character is such a powerful women and helped tie everything in the book together. Thank you for this ARC for my honest review.

I couldn't put this down, it had me ignoring my family while I gobbled it up and left me mourning it's completion due to the emotional cliffhanger at the end! The character growth of the FMC! I had never been an ARC reader before because I usually prefer a hardcopy in my hands while I read, but I will definitely be purchasing this for my bookshelf once it comes out and CANNOT WAIT for the next book!!

The shadowed oracle is a cool take on the whole “a girl doesn’t know she has powers, discovers them, and goes on a journey” trope/book idea. I thought Ingrid’s character was real and grounded. The way she interacted with others made sense how she was brought up and I loved how she grew as a character throughout the book. The book story itself seems to move quite quickly, which I like, but it isn’t for everyone. I really like the magic powers and how they are presented. I read this book over a longer period of time than I normally do but though the story was good to pick up again after a day or 2 of not reading it and to me that means it is easy to follow and understand. I LOVE an HEA however this ended on a cliff hanger so I can’t make sure the main characters get theirs. I wish I could though because Ingrid so deserves it. I already cannot wait for the sequel!!

This would’ve been a 5 star book if the characters around Ingrid had a little more depth. They were very nice characters but the only one we got to see slightly more of was Tyla and the others are sort of glossed over. This may be something that is more in depth in future books but I thought it was the only thing keeping this from being that much better.

I also want to say I got this as an ARC, I did get it for free to leave an honest review. Also because of that there were a few spelling/word errors that have been ignored for the sake of my review, focusing more on the story rather than any small errors like that.

What a journey! It's fantasy meets psychological thriller. 3.5✨

Thank you to BookSirens and the author for my advanced copy. I leave this review voluntarily.

The Shadowed Oracle has a slow start, and the pace only picks up for me around the 70% mark. This is where the story became more interesting, and I was being fully drawn into the fantasy realm. I liked the magic system, and I found the monsters and enemies very unique. I think the author is very talented and has creative ideas.

However, with a more experienced editor, this story could have been stronger. The narration was written worlds better than the dialogue, and the pace needs some more editing in certain parts. The story could have also been wrapped up sooner.

I will be continuing with this series, though, as I am VERY intrigued with Sylas's character and Ingrid's journey (and her cliffhanger jaw-dropping discovery). Readers, don't give up, the ending is rewarding. But let's hope for the next book(s) to grip us right from the start. 🤞🏼

Firstly, thank you for letting me read the ARC of this book. I found the book via TikTok and I was happy to receive a free copy of the ARC. I was so excited when I first heard of the plot, however, I was a bit disappointed at first. The first half of the book was really dragging. It was a massive info dump, which I normally don’t mind, but this time I felt like I kept missing important information. The second half of the book was a lot better and I couldn’t put the book down! I was happy that I kept reading and got through the first part. The second part was a lot more action filled and I felt like the plot was finally plotting. And wow that ending! I loved that plot twist and the epilogue made me excited for the next book.

I have some seriously mixed feelings about this one. I was lucky enough to be chosen to be an arc reader for this book, so the copy I read had not gone through the last editing. I was expecting the grammar and misspelled words and even missing words however, some of the sentence structures felt very wrong and did not flow smoothly. The first half of the book was hard to really get into. It almost felt like the author did not know where exactly she wanted to go with the story giving too much background information without the character building. The second half of the book, however, was much much better! I am glad I finished this book and did not give up on it. I look forward to reading the next book when it comes out, hoping that it is more like the second half of this one.

It took me awhile to get into this story. Almost 70% of the way through before I was enraptured and finished the last 30% in one sitting.

The world and character building is beautiful and meticulous, but all the main action happens in the last quarter of the novel and that last part was completely riveting.

The brilliance in the magical world of Ealis and the dark creatures that lurk in the shadows is what drew me in but I stayed for Ingrid the stubborn, strong-willed FMC and her enemy 👀 Sylan the dark prince warrior.

This is a masterpiece. If you like moody, fantastical, tattooed heroines and brooding “cruel” princes, this is for you.

Now hurry up and give me the next book because the cliffhanger bout killed me!

Such a great read! Everything I love in fantasy writing. Elaborate world building, dynamic characters, mystery, morally grey characters and a little slow burn romance! Love the character development with self discovery and in the end questioning what you thought you knew!

This book is amazing. There was a few typos, but nothing that cant be fixed in editing. The world building is great. The suspense is top notch, the plot twists perfectly placed, and the mystery sprinkled in. Im reeling for the next one and this hasnt even been released yet. Magic, monsters, evil queens and kings, finding family, tragic back stories. Ugh i could go on and on. Really great writing!

Thanks to the author for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily. 4.5 stars!

This book was a so good! It was a little slow to start with and you have to push through but I’m so glad I did! That ending was a total mind f**k! I’m still reeling from the ending, what just happened!! I can’t wait for book two so hopefully it comes out soon!

One of the male characters is my absolute favorite! He is the hilarious best friend that every mfc needs!

There is no tension or spice between her and Dean. She is almost too shy about it all for me. He is constantly so sweet and protective, I’m not sure if I like him or want to punch him in the face for it.

Every time the dark prince shows up with his cocky attitude and smirks gets me! The way that Sylan and her react and taunt each other is the best. He has something calculating going on in his head and I want to know what it is.

The monsters are perfect! What the author did with them was something I wasn’t expecting to happen!

ARC review: loved the FMC, story, setting and world building. The first half of the book was dragged out and could have been way shorter, for me this took away from the second half of the story which had a lot of things happening.

Plot twist didn’t surprise me, I never really cared for Dean or what was between him and Ingrid. Always thought he was creepy for being so attached to Ingrid already.

Will read the next book just to know more about Sylan 🤓

It took me a little bit longer to get into this book, but once I did, I really enjoyed it. The world building was great, diverse magic, and interesting creatures that gave the story a unique feel.

One of the biggest highlights for me was the main character. She’s older than the usual fantasy heroine, covered in dark and creepy tattoos, hardened by trauma, and completely badass. I loved that she wasn’t a damsel in distress, refreshing compared to the other fantasy leads.

For a debut author, I think she’s done such a brilliant job. There’s definitely room for growth in the plot development, giving more context to the characters and maybe pulling back on the amount of synonyms used but I’m really looking forward to seeing how her writing evolves. This was a strong start, and I can’t wait for the next book.

ARC Review: Thank you so much R.B. Sturn for my first ever ARC Read!

Honestly it took me a little bit to get into this book. The beginning was a slow start with all the necessary world building but once it started, it started! It’s refreshing reading about an FMC that isn’t early 20’s and just figuring life out. Ingrid has trauma, tattoos and attitude!

The story telling and the characters drew me right in and never let go!
Veryyyyy curious to see how the story plays out between Ingrid and Sylan, not gonna lie!

That cliffhanger!! Guuuurl!! Ready for book 2, like NOW! 😅

I love how in depth you go with the characters, we are getting so much background on the FMC that it’s easy for us girls to picture her as the person she is. It also allows us to relate to the book and thus get lost in it.

Thank you for letting me read it via booksirens!

ARC review:
A Shadowed Gem Worth Unearthing: A Review of R.B. Sturn's "The Shadowed Oracle"
R.B. Sturn's "The Shadowed Oracle" is a compelling addition to the fantasy genre, weaving a rich tapestry of intricate plotlines, deeply buried secrets, and a protagonist who firmly anchors the narrative. While the story takes its time to fully ignite, those who appreciate a deliberate build-up will find themselves richly rewarded by the complex world and the compelling mysteries that unfold.
One of the undeniable strengths of "The Shadowed Oracle" lies in its intricate plot. Sturn masterfully layers secrets upon secrets, creating a sense of constant intrigue that keeps the reader guessing. Just when you think you have a grasp on the underlying truths, another layer is peeled back, revealing new possibilities and shifting allegiances. This careful construction of the narrative ensures that the stakes constantly rise, drawing you deeper into the shadowed world the author has crafted.
Adding to the book's appeal is its fantastic female main character (FMC). She is portrayed with strength and resilience, navigating the treacherous landscape of the story with intelligence and determination. Her internal struggles and growth feel authentic, making her a character the reader can genuinely invest in and root for. She is far from a passive observer, actively driving the narrative and making impactful choices that shape the unfolding events.
The elements of mystery and betrayal are expertly woven into the fabric of the story. The air is thick with suspicion, and the question of who can be trusted lingers on every page. This constant undercurrent of uncertainty creates a palpable tension, making each interaction and revelation feel significant. The betrayals, when they occur, are not mere plot devices but carry emotional weight, impacting both the protagonist and the reader.
However, it's important to acknowledge the book's pacing. Sturn adopts a "slow burn" approach, meticulously establishing the world, introducing characters, and laying the groundwork for the central conflicts. While this allows for a deep immersion into the setting and a thorough understanding of the intricacies at play, some readers might find the initial chapters to progress at a more leisurely pace. Patience, however, proves to be a virtue, as the deliberate build-up ultimately serves to enhance the impact of the later revelations and the unfolding drama.
In conclusion, "The ShadowedOracle" by R.B. Sturn is a rewarding read for those who appreciate a well-crafted fantasy with a strong focus on plot, intricate secrets, and compelling characters. While the slow burn might test the patience of some, the payoff is significant. The excellent FMC, the pervasive sense of mystery, and the impactful betrayals make this a book that will linger in the mind long after the final page is turned. If you enjoy fantasy that prioritizes depth and complexity over immediate action, then venturing into the shadowed world of the Oracle is an endeavor well worth undertaking.

I had the absolute pleasure of reading an ARC for the shadowed oracle.

Immediately I was gripped with the story, intrigued with the initial modern day setting we were proposed with where I wasn’t quite sure how it was going to change pace if not an initial urban fantasy type story.

Our FMC Ingrid is so multi-layered and RB has done such a fantastic job of describing and developing her through her trauma and tumultuous early life. Ingrid harnesses all these wrongdoings to come into her birth right and really kick this story into gear as we see her traverse space to being thrown in the deep end in Ealis which from the surface seems like an extremely intriguing world that we have yet to explore fully.

I will the say the book was faced paced, something I’m not overly used to in reading. I questioned whether given her up until now human life - did Ingrid come to terms with what was happening too quickly? In the same breath I found it kind of refreshing that we didn’t see the same tropes of helpless girl meets shadow daddy before she realises her true potential - Ingrid was always strong willed and determined given the daily battles she faced with the shades - she had never quite given into the hand she was dealt, always pushing forward and fighting back.

The magic system is something I think will definitely be more unique than what initially meets the surface - I can’t wait to see what happens next and how the world building continues and grows, and how both this and the magic / political systems in Ealis shape Ingrid’s journey.

The final chapter really knocked me - while I had an inkling where it was going in those final lead up pages, I had really suspected much prior to this - only that perhaps in the future, Sylan may become an ally. The epilogue further confirms this potential development and not to mention I just love Monia - please please please let her have a recurring role in the following books!!

Overall would definitely recommend - it is beautifully written and leaves much to be discovered. I’m really gonna need a special edition of this on my shelf when it releases! Can’t wait to see what happens next. Thanks so much for the ARC ❤️

ARC Review 4 ⭐️’s. Possible spoilers.
Thank you so much to R.B. Sturn for the ARC read! This was my first ever ARC and I can happily say I was enthralled by the end. With that in mind, let’s get into it.

The earlier chapters at first were a little difficult to digest, but then remembering this is a third person POV giving a limited narrative, it made more sense. Those chapters are necessary to fully understand the FMC, who might I add grows into her bad-***ery throughout the book.
The mystery element to the fantasy really amped up the turn paging for me. There is so much to plot that if you’re not paying attention you may miss it, and that in my opinion is good writing, keeping it at hints and misdirection. It makes a lot of sense considering the FMC is experiencing everything at a mach speed and it is a mystery as well.
The FMC, Ingrid is mysterious, guarded and leery of trusting to easily but deep down she desires connections even when she can’t admit it to herself. She’s survived so much trauma in her childhood and how she copes with it, takes up the first portion of the book. She feels out of place and you get the hints early on that something otherworldly is connected.
You meet, Dean, Raidinn, and Tyla along the way when she’s cast into learning of this new world that she is apart of. They become her chosen family in a sense, but she’s still guarded of them. When the being of the otherworld of Ealis collides with Earth, she and her friends barely escape Sylan. The mysterious, dark, and magnetic villain who chases after and hunts her down.
From about halfway on, the story picks up and sprints at a fast pace, with monsters, magic, secrets, and more. A gladiator fight to survive and loyalties questioned. I don’t want to give too much away here so I’ll leave it vague, because you really need to read this story. The twist that comes, I kind of guessed, but not easily, its a gradual build up, leading to a suspenseful and cliff hanger ending.
I cannot wait to see where Ingrid and Sylan end up, and how her friends play into her revelations in book 2.

Since this was an ARC, there were some editing that got missed, but it didn’t detract from the story at all, and overall the story kept me turning the page. Even though I had to put my read on pause to attend to some personal things, once I was able to pick it back up it took only a couple days to finish. I may have been walking my clients dogs while reading because I couldn’t put it down. This is a world I can’t wait to return to.

I just finished this one and wow, it delivered a beautifully dark fantasy ride. It's harsh, epic, and impossible to walk away from. If you’re into high stakes world-building, questing with heart, and mysteries that keep unfolding, you might want to sit tight for this.

Ingrid Lourdes is plagued by nightmares and cryptic messages, and permanently unsettled. She’s pulled from Earth into Ealis, a realm brimming with wraiths, immortals, and carnage. She’s strong willed but real in her fear and determination. Then there’s Dean Crassus, the steady world walking leader, who becomes her anchor. Plus a touch of moral complexity. And yeah, the Prince and High King? Pure shadows. Dangerous, oppressive, and cornering every scene they're in.

This isn’t a fast start fantasy. The early chapters test patience, especially if you prefer instant action. The beginning takes its time layering in mystery and world lore, but it pays off when Ealis reveals itself in full force. If you lean into the climb, the momentum builds to a thrilling, emotionally satisfying peak.

Ealis is like a tapestry of decay and revolt. With warring factions, lore, and societies teetering between preservation and collapse. Even portal travel feels like a dangerous choice not to be made lightly. The political intrigue, hidden societies, and natural horrors blend seamlessly into a place that feels both utterly alien and yet familiar.

Ingrid’s arc is what I loved most. She’s not some chosen one... but she’s thrust into chaos and forced to learn, fight, and outsmart. That ownership over survival felt both grounding and powerful, and the fight for hope is messy and beautiful.

The Shadowed Oracle isn’t flashy fantasy. It’s gritty, gothic, and grownup. It asks that you roll your sleeves up for Ingrid’s journey, and leaves you craving what comes next. If you like your fantasy soaked in dark twists and ruled by survival, you’ll want to be in this world.

I received an advance review copy for free in return for an honest review.

It's been a while since I've been surprised by the setting, plot and general events of a fantasy book, but 'the shadowed oracle' was a whole new experience.

The first few chapters had me doubting if I'd understood the summary right; they felt more like a (psychological) thriller than a fantasy novel. Pleasantly confusing in my experience; this is the type of book you just have to dive in headfirst and see where it goes. After 10-11 chapters though, it became very clear that this is in fact a (high) fantasy book and suddenly the entire story takes a turn in a whole new direction. As a reader, you find out where you're going at almost the same pace as the main character, Ingrid - which is nice but also brought some challenges. The story requires a lot of explanation, which is brought forward by (a lot) of dialogue and extensive research by Ingrid later on. For me personally, this slowed the pace of the book a little too much: especially the first 1/3 of the book makes for a slow(er) read and made me almost loose interest. I don't suppose there is a way around this with the way the story is set up though and it did get better after the first part.
And Ingrid. Ingrid is one hell of a main character. She's sassy, she's funny and her troubled past plays a part in her personality without being her whole personality. She's very cleverly written and a real FMC to root for!
Oh, and the plottwist. I did not see the last two chapters coming. Well played, miss Sturn, well played.

All in all I'm really glad I've signed up for this ARC. With most of the explanation/worldbuilding done in this book, I'm hoping for less talking more action in the second one; which I'll definitely pick up!
