He would do anything to protect her, if only she'd let him.
Corporal Sienna Jade wasn't given a choice about joining the mission to Unity. Seen as a troublemaker after reporting an assault by a senior officer, the army wanted her gone. Sienna resents the army for assigning her to Earth Ship Siren, and suspects the fleet's Unity mission will fail. But others would do anything to escape Earth ...
Alex Tariel knew his only chance to get a place on ES Siren was as a prisoner, so he stole water rations. As a former construction foreman, his skills make him a valuable prisoner on board, but still a prisoner unable to control his own life. Instead of keeping his head down, he gets involved in the fights set up for gambling privilege tokens, the only currency aboard ship among the prisoners.
Getting patched up by Corporal Jade might be the best thing that's happened to Alex on the trip so far, but becoming her ship husband puts him between her and the lieutenant who tried to kill her for kicks on Earth. While Sienna tries to keep control of her feelings for Alex, Alex would do anything to protect her, if only she'd let him.
As ES Siren faces its first crisis, a little trust and love goes a long way
Shona Husk lives in Western Australia at the edge of the Indian Ocean. Blessed with a lively imagination she spent most of her childhood making up stories.
A decent read with practically the same plotline as the first book in the series, except this time the heroine is not a military prison guard, she's a military medic. But still, she gets the an itching for prison blues (or in this case, prison whites) in her romance with a patient. The plot line and characters are more realistic in this story, and i will definitely be following the story of the Earth Ship Siren into the next book.
This is the second in the ES Siren Series which also includes Yours to Uncover by Mel Teshco and Yours to Desire by Denise Rossetti. All three authors, including Husk have a long list of Sci-Fi and Fantasy Romance to their credits.
I've also found their writing in this series felt very similar and I didn't get the sense I was introducing myself to three new authors. I'm very glad I met them and will read more from all three.
Since these are all novella's, in the first book the world building was sufficient for the length but in reading Yours to Command there was not only more time for the world to grow on me but for it to build. I liked experience life on the ship through other sets of eyes and also got a better sense of life back on Earth for the same reason.
My main irk with Yours to Uncover was Zane Andrews, the bad lieutenant and he is certainly present though he doesn't bother me as much as he did. He bothered me in the first book because he was well done, creepy and very deserving of my dislike. As an antagonist, he's second to none.
Andrews is back in this one, up to his usual and yes, please keep hating him =)
A sci-fi space novel set in the future. Corporal Sienna Jade is an army may did on a space vessel headed to a new plant. Alex became a prisoner to escape the toxic environment of earth. The meet ing between the two sets off sparks neither one of them can deny. A romance novel that has a very good plot and characters that are well developed and we'll written. This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone novel.
This is the second book in this fast paced sci fi series and this time it's the fabulously talented Ms Husk who is in the driving seat! The series penned by three different authors has certainly captured my attention and as these books are easily read in an hour or two it's a lovely way to pass an afternoon. This follows on from the previous book Yours to Uncover with the same setting but this time it's a completely new hero and heroine to set the readers pulse racing . Step aboard the space ship Siren and journey beyond earth to an unknown future with only hope on your side! Sienna never really wanted to leave earth but when she got labeled as a trouble maker she didn't really have a lot of choice. Now she's trapped for the next five years on a ship traveling to the distant planet Solitaire and to cap it all her vicious ex is on board and worse still he's her superior! Sienna knows that Kane has it in for her but she's trying hard to keep her head down and just get on with her duties but it's a lonely life for the single medic. Alex or prisoner 1789, knew if he stayed on the dying earth with all it's contamination problems that he wouldn't survive long. He's taken matters into his own hands and by stealing water has managed to be sent off world as part of the labour force that is needed to build a home for survivors. It's a hard life being treated like scum but it's a chance for a life that Alex is prepared to take. Determined to get noticed by the engineers he studies hard but when forced into the underground bare knuckle fights he meets the compelling Sienna. On earth struggling to survive they might never have met but in space the rules are all changed . Alex may be a convicted criminal but Sienna sees the man beneath the prison uniform and boy does she want a taste! But rules and regulations confound them at every turn and jealousy is about to tear them apart. I really enjoyed this instalment and the pages simply flew by. I think it's fair to say that the author built upon the world building that began in the previous book but it really works here. The situation these characters find themselves in are starting to make a lot more sense and it's abundantly clear that the nucleus for their new society is somewhat flawed. At the moment prisoners are seen as little more than labour but as time goes by they will need to be integrated and form attachments. It's very difficult to write a convincing romance in so short a story but the author cleverly does not try to do that. What Ms Husk offers instead is a believable burgeoning relationship between two lonely people willing to take a chance. Yes this story begins with lust but it ends with hope. If you have read the first book then you will no doubt join me in despising a certain vile lieutenant Zane whose presence is felt here as well. I like that the same protagonist is featuring in these stories as it aids the continuity. When I read this I imagine something similar to the tv show Stargate Universe with humans trapped aboard a spaceship searching for a home but not all with the same agenda . I'm really enjoying this series and can't wait to find out what the next book written by Denise Rossetti holds.
The Earth Ship Siren (aka ES Siren) series includes three novella-length books written by three different authors. I will be reviewing each of the three books separately, in order. They all center around life aboard a space ship heading away from a dying Earth and towards a colonization planet. On board the ship are military personal, private citizens, and prisoners selected for their skills or for hard labor. Each book is a stand-alone, each has a different story to offer on board the Siren, and each did so with varying degrees of success.
The world-building for the Siren is continued in book 2, but with a more cohesive author-voice, a lack of info-dumps and a captivating story flow. Husk's author-voice is confident, imaginative and well-written. It left me wanting to read more, both about the series and by the author.
Alex Tariel is a strong, fleshed-out character with a strong point-of-view voice that kept me reading. He hopes to keep his head down, serve out his time and find a new life on Solitaire. He's a complex character - both loathing and admitting his enjoyment of the fights he's forced into. Not completely innocent, he feels realistically flawed.
Sienna is also a strong character. Smart and has a no-nonsense attitude I enjoyed. She's not on her way to Solitaire exactly by choice, and has no utopian, lofty dreams about what life will be like in the early days of the colony. Much like Alex, she's a prisoner with a different set of shackles.
The chemistry and romantic-tension build-up between Sienna and Alex was hot. Hot, and believable and oh-so-good. It's been a while since I read a romance that hit all the buttons so well for me. Added onto this was a good storyline and character development - both things that are often overlooked in romantic novellas.
There is a bit of repetitive narrative between the POV shifts from Alex to Sienna, and even from chapter to chapter, but they weren't massively annoying or poorly written. That and a bit too much introspection for my taste were the only minor hang-ups to the story.
Disclaimer: I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for honest feedback.
This is the second book in the series, and I found the explanations about Siren, the Earth and the organization between prisonners, the army and the civilians easier to understand. There were more details about everything and the things that I wasn't sure about in the first book, got cleared up here.
Yours to Command focused on the Prisonner side with Alex, a 'yellow' prisonner number 1789. Back on Earth, he knew his only chance to get on this ship was as a prisonner, so he stole water rations. He wasn't sure if he was going to be choosed on Siren or if he'll have to take his sentence on Earth. It was a risky plan but he used to work on building the Towers, making him useful for the future on Solitary, the new planet.
Sienna is a medic for the Prisonners. She never wanted to be there in the first place and she thinks that this is only a suicide mission. Either they're going to die in space during this 12 months journey or they'll die on a rock they know almost nothing about.
I loved Sienna's personnality, and Alex's too. The sex was hot even if it took a while for her to trust him enough to uncuff him! I didn't realize at first that Sienna was the woman Rita refered to in the first book. And then, lieutenant Zane appeared again. Ugh, is anyone going to stop him someday? Seems like he's in the Major's radar now, so that's a good thing.
This book made me giddy, and that last scene was so sweet. I wanted more of Alex and Sienna but well, it was pretty good already and I really enjoyed it.

Ok so we have Sienna who was forced to be on Siren journeying to a habitable planet that age really has no want to go. But since she made a company about her commanding officer while on Earth she did not get a choice. Then there is Alex, who made a logical choice to steal some water to be put in jail at the chance of being place on Siren. Alex didn’t have much of a life to live on Earth and wanted a second chance.Well you would have guessed but that one that makes the demands is back. He is as hateful and ruthless as ever. This story is taking place during the same time frame as Yours to Uncover. You will want to make sure you read it first just so you know a little bit about the series. I enjoy the erotica in this one a little more because of Sienna being in control. She would have to since the last relationship left her a bit scared and she needed to work threw it.You still get a great story with enough suspense that you do not feel it is just erotica. You have an aspect of SciFi because of it being in space, on a spaceship, in ether year 2202. We do learn more about waits for them on Solitaire and how long prisoners have to work off their sentences. That was interesting to read looking forward to Yours to Desire and finding about the sexmeth that was talked about in both books.

This is a futuristic story in which the Earth has become largely uninhabitable due to overpopulation and extreme pollution. The inhabitants of the spaceship ES Siren are volunteers (mostly, except for Corporal Sienna Jade in this case) leaving the Earth to journey to Unity, an earth-like planet about a years journey from the Earth, to start over. Sienna is being punished by Lt. Zane by being stuck in the male prisoner infirmary, and he's the reason she's on the ship in the first place. She would much rather be back on earth. But if she hadn't been in the male prisoner infirmary then she wouldn't have met Alex and we wouldn't have gotten such a steamy story. I've read a few books by Shona Husk previously. I really enjoyed her Shadowlands series too. Karma better catch up with Lt. Zane in the next one, he definitely deserves whatever happens to him.
very good story. the characters sucked me in and held me until i couldnt put the book down. I loved the contrast of the two main characters, the plot was amazing and I am really enjoying this author. I cannot wait to read the next one.
Three books by three separate authors.. all telling the stories of individuals on the Siren. A ship leaving earth in the year 2202. Earth has strained it's resources to such an extent that man is dying. Fortunately they have discovered an Earth like planet and have begun colonizing it. The Scientists have already made their base and done basic exploring. Now it's time for the first flow of pioneers to make it ready for anyone else who is chosen to transplant.
It's supposed to be a new beginning but just like everywhere else there are those who are in it for themselves, those that are on power trips and those that dare to love.
Shona Husk takes up the saga in Yours to Command. While Book 1 was gritty and dark, Shona adds a sense of desperate desire. More of a romance. Two individuals attracted across societal boundaries.
Alex Tariel knew he would not live to see any change on life on earth. He was diagnosed with a lung disease that meant certain death. Unless he could get off world. As a top level construction worker he knew he would be a valuable asset. Now all he needs is a plan. Stealing water got him arrested and some fine song and dance got him sentenced to the Siren and 4 years of jail time once on Solitaire. Alex could work with that all he needed to do was keep his nose clean.
Corporal Sienna Jade was good at her job until she believed a superior officer when he said he loved her. His abuse destroyed her and when she complained, you guessed it, it was swept under the rug. And she was given a choice, leave the military or sign up for a trip and life on Solitaire. Only she still had to deal with Lt Zane Andrews.. entitled deviant that he is. But life on board isn't quite as bad as Sienna thought and a very attractive prisoner certainly captures her attention. Smooth sailing at least until the Deviant one gets bored.
Sienna and Alex must deal with the same evil that Rita and Tristan did, Lt Poor Little Rich Boy. So it takes brains and some serious nerve to neutralize him.
I like Shona Husk, she writes different and unique books but this time I felt her book was the weakest of the three.. It lacked that gritty sci-fi feel and remained a romance book. BUT Sienna and Alex were fully fleshed out and fabulous characters. If this had been a stand alone or part of a series entirely written by Ms. Husk, I think it would have soared.

First a couple of points to explain where I'm coming from: I'm a Shona Husk fan and I have not read the first book in this series. Being a fan is why I chose the book, and not having read the first book in no way decreased my enjoyment of this book. The stories deserve an entire series, but you do not have to have read #1 to fully understand this one.
I like sci-fi to a certain degree, having been raised on Star Trek, Star Wars, and Babylon 5. So I went in expecting to enjoy that part of the story and Ms. Husk didn't disappoint at all. She explained enough of the world (and it's degradation to the point Alex actually gets himself imprisoned simply to get taken to the new world, no matter how hard it's going to be as the colonists try to build a world for themselves). She doesn't go into too many details to distract those readers who might be really techy and thus be able to refute/be thrown out of the story by potentially incorrect scientific details.
Now the romance - I really liked the fact that it was Sienna who was the military officer and theoretically (and quite literally a few times in encounters with Alex) held all the power. It certainly was healing for her, given the issues she had had with her superior officer Zane, to have the control given to her by the magnetic cuffs that prisoners like Alex wore. She didn't have to worry about him (Alex) going further than she wanted him to.
Another great aspect for me was the credit/acknowledgment of the rules of living within the military as well. Not only did Sienna have to deal with the chain of command when it came to promotions/areas she wanted to advance in (which involved clashing with Zane who didn't want to let her out of his control), but down to the point of actually having an ongoing relationship with Alex. I found the nod to the ever-present paperwork (albeit on computer screens for the book) refreshing.
So, overall, there was very little in this book that didn't work for me. I think the main point that dropped this from being a 5-gargoyle to a 4-gargoyle book was simply the fact that it seemed to end too abruptly for me. I get that we were probably never going to see the end of their trip and arrival on Solitaire, but the way the happily-ever-after came about wasn't as ... satisfying as I expected. There were a few threads/issues left unraveled, and maybe that's because of the series and authors weren't allowed to put an end to it. Still, I wish there had been more satisfaction given when it came to Sienna/Zane. But, I will say this: there was 'some' satisfaction to be had with regard to that plotline.

This series must be read in order. The first book is Yours to Uncover: ES Siren 1. This is the second book.
Sienna did not want to go to Solitaire but it was that or a death sentence... Figuratively if not literally. She had brought up charges against Lieutenant Zane because he raped her and tried to kill her when they were dating back on Earth. Of course with his connections as an Elite nothing was done and she was labeled a trouble maker and given the choice... Join the mission or be drummed out if the US Military... Which would be a death sentence as she would never be able to get work again. Sienna is terrified... Terrified of men, terrified of leaving Earth, terrified of Zane, terrified she will die in space or on Solitaire's alien landscape. That all changes when she meets Alex. He sparks some sort of attraction within her that she hasn't felt since before she dated (and was abused by ) Zane. What is it about Alex that brings her dormant hormones back to life? What was his crime on Earth and why is he fighting in the Rounds?
Alex was dying of chem lung on earth and even though he was an architect he would never get treatment... He would just die a painful and pointless death. So he came up with a scheme once he knew about the exodus to Solitaire. His only hope was becoming a prisoner as his usefulness to the new colony would almost guarantee him a place as slave labor so he stole water rations and prayed that his plan would work. When he is pressed into the rounds by Lieutenant Zane he feels trapped but once he meets Sienna and she asks him his name he feels hope again for the first time since he can remember. Is she really interested in him? Or does she want to use him like everyone else on the Siren?
This series is shaping up to be really good. I can't wait to read the next book Yours to Desire: ES Siren 3! I hope this ends up being an ongoing series instead of just a trilogy :)
The novel is set in the future where the environment on Earth has been destroyed. Society has devolved into a caste system where only the elite have access to fresh air or water and live/work in towers away from the "undesirables". Our hero (Alex) and heroine (Sienna) are located on a ship traveling to a new world in order to prepare it for habitation by others that are coming afterwards. Alex committed the crime of stealing water rations simply for the sole purpose of getting a place on the ES Siren so he can travel to the new planet and have a chance at a new, unpolluted life. Sienna is in the military as a medic and has been assigned to the ship after being labeled a troublemaker for reporting her superior officer after a physical attack. Both are dealing with isolation on board ship. Alex through the fact that he is a convict and all of his movements are monitored at all times and he is forced to participate in fights against his will. Sienna via the fact her commanding officer on board ship is the officer she turned in for the attack, in retaliation he has her assigned to the medic ward in the men's section preventing her from being able to wander beyond her assigned station. The story itself deals with both these individuals learning to trust one another and finding the strength to fight through their fear and fight for what they want to be happy. I have read other novels by Shona Husk and enjoyed them immensely, so was excited to read this. I ended up only giving the story three stars as I ended the novel wanting more. The story was entertaining and was a quick read, but I was left wanting more depth to the character's evolving relationship and more depth to the characters themselves. Overall I would recommend this book for anyone who isn't expecting much beyond a quick entertaining read.

This is the second book in a series, and I admit the only story I have read. I see by another review I should have read the first one first, but I didn't have it. So I read this as a stand alone.
The author's voice and writing style are interesting and good. I loved the worldbuilding and the universe. I'd like to learn more about the world and the colony.
The main characters were well-written and developed. Their backstories and romance were captivating and hot. The many sex scenes added to the character development and plot. The villain didn't seem as well fleshed out to me. He was a bit one-dimensional, but I've heard he is/was in the other stories so that might be taken care of as the series progresses.
This story had some issues with capitalization but otherwise the editing was good. One of the things that gave me pause was the statements that the pilots of the spacecraft were Air Force while, apparently, everyone else was Army. Why didn't the Army use their own pilots? I don't know. Maybe that was a fact dictated to the author so she had to say it.
I liked this story, loved the hero and heroine and the world. The main thing that bothered me was it ended fairly abruptly after the heroine did something she could have done at the beginning, something that I kept wondering why she didn't do, even as I understood (as prior military) why she didn't. I guess it's just that in my branch an LT wasn't as powerful as Zane seems to be.
I enjoyed the story and will most likely buy the others in the series to find out what happens at the colony and hope that Zane gets melted by one of the flesh dissolving bugs. If he eventually gets a love story then the whole series will become a wallbanger for me.
Do I recommend this story? Yes. Definitely. Ms. Husk is very good at characterization.

---I have not read book one in the series so I do want to state this upfront. But in saying that, still I can say I am able to read this story and feel able to give a good review.---
Corp. Sienna Jade was made to join the mission to Unity. She was considered the troublemaker of the fleet, the conscience of the group. She saw someone attacked and reported the attacked and because of that, the army wanted her either out or gone completely. So they reassigned her to Mission Unity and ES Siren.
Alex Tariel made sure to get assigned to ES Siren by making sure to commit a crime which would land him on ES Siren. He ends up in the path of Corp Sienna and he ends up her ship husband WHICH is a good thing because he is about the only thing that can protect her from her ex –and to top it off, he is her boss.
The heat in this story is good .The twists and turns in this story will grab you. I will admit I had some questions about things which if I had read book 1, would help but overall I was able to keep up in this story. Terrific SC-FI premise- I cant wait to read the next book in the series. I really like this book and everything in this story grabbed my attention. Alex and Sienna were a great couple who overcome a lot of odds and ended up together.
Corporal Sienna Jade resents the army for assigning her to Earth Ship Siren. Alex Tariel became a prisoner to escape Earth. Patching up Alex and making him her ship husband puts them both in the cross hairs of Sienna’s commanding officer in this riveting erotic sci-fi romance.
This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps reads hovering on the edge of anticipation with suspense and red hot passion. The well written scenes and details capture the imagination and the intriguing world draws the reader deeper into the story. The characters are strong compelling and grab the reader’s attention from the beginning.
Sienna finds herself burning with desire for Alex, but he is a prisoner and with her past she’s not sure that she should go there. Alex isn’t interested in making waves he just wants to serve his time, but their attraction is hot enough to scorch their ship and the sex scenes are hot and steamy. The reader can’t help but get caught up in their relationship as the struggle to overcome their own issues but deal with the sadistic commander that will do everything he can to make their lives miserable.
The futuristic world is fascinating and the characters are captivating and while I think this romance was over too quickly, it was enjoyable and entertaining.

So having just read the first book I was blown away by the chemistry in this book. Sienna and Alex's story made me a dedicated fan of this series for good. Though the book is fast paced it wasn't rushed and while the characters fell in lust with eachother I felt that they were still naturally able to develop that lust into something much deeper. The appearance of Zane in this book added a lot more interest for me and I really liked how that idiot was dealt with. Having already read the third book I was really looking forward to him being taken care of.
If you love a sexy Alpha with a tender side and some really hot off the charts sex then I definitely would recommend this book.
Senna Jade is the Doctor on duty on the ship bound for a new world. She is considered a trouble maker for turning Kane in when he abused her. Now she spends her time an emergency unit. Alex is a criminal who is being forced to fight while on the ship for the amusment of Kane. When he is sent to Senna's unit to get stitches the two have sparks that cannot be contained. Now they must fight again against Kane who will do anything to destroy them both.
Once again another hit! Written well with love scenes from heaven. They are not just sex they are actual love scenes that the heart of the reader and they are HOT!
This second book in the ES Siren Series is the strongest of the three. It helps to have read the first book Yours To Uncover to understand the background of the ship villain. However, Yours to Command: ES Siren 2 can stand on its own as far as world building and character development goes.
The contrast between Sienna and Alex is well played. Their different views of the colonization on Solitaire as well as their positions and roles on the ship make this a very interesting read. Though this is novella in length (I read it in about 2 hours or so) the story line was not sacrificed in the least.
Not quite 5 stars but certainly 4.5. Copy provided by NetGalley for an honest review.
I liked the second book in this series just as much as the first one. I will admit, they aren't really my thing as I am used to much longer erotica and anything even remotely sci fi has never interested me, however, I still enjoyed it. Alex and Sierra were both incredibly likeable characters and I liked their storyline! One thing I really enjoyed about this book is that even though it's not written by the same author who wrote the first book, it felt the exact same. I still felt like I was in the same world I was in in book 1. I look forward to reading the third one.
