The Devil's Dust #2

The Scars That Define Us

Rate this book
The Devil's Dust MC has a list of new threats to the club's lifestyle. Dani, to prove her loyalty, is trying to embrace a part of herself that she never knew existed until now. A sinful beast lurking beneath her surface has been awakened and is ready to eliminate anyone that stands in its way. Looking at her stained hands, she rinses the blood from them. She resigns herself to innocence lost and welcomes her thirst for more blood.

After a breathtaking turn of events, Shadow is looking at life in a different perspective. Not knowing who he can trust or who he can forgive has left him feeling desolate and alone. As Shadow is laying behind his rifle, he wonders if he can pull the trigger to eliminate the threat. He takes a deep breath and squeezes the trigger, the rifle recoil ignites the fuel that drives him.

Retaliations will be required.

Boundaries will be shattered.

Redemption will be lost.

Betrayal so deep, yet they still yearn for one another. Can Shadow overlook Dani’s transgressions? Can Dani overlook the mistrust that Shadow has placed upon her?

M.N. Forgy was raised in Missouri where she still lives with her family. She's a soccer mom by day and a saucy writer by night. M.N. Forgy started writing at a young age but never took it seriously until years later, as a stay-at-home mom, she opened her laptop and started writing again. As a role model for her children, she felt she couldn't live with the "what if" anymore and finally took a chance on her character's story. So, with her glass of wine in hand and a stray Barbie sharing her seat, she continues to create and please her fans.

In this second book in the series, Dani finds herself having to fight against allegations of being a traitor to the club. Thrown under the bus by her own mother, she's fighting an uphill battle to prove to Shadow and other club members that she wouldn't betray their trust.

Despite his romantic feelings for Dani, Shadow is quick to assume the worst of Dani. He dives headfirst into a sea of booze and women, without ever hearing Dani out. Overnight, he turns into a complete jackass!

Even after Dani has proved herself, Shadow continues to behave like a jerk. It seems that once he started down this destructive pathway, he was determined to stay the course. Ultimately, it just made him look like a complete douche.

However, like most women, Dani can't seem to resist his standoffish appeal. Just as they start to work things out, past actions come back to haunt the couple. Several big twists in this story will have you riding an emotional roller coaster.

Overall, I really liked this continuation of Dani and Shadow's story. It provided plenty of angst and action to keep my attention. It also provided a nice, satisfying ending. I listened to the Audible version and the narration was great as well. All in all, a good choice for me.

This is a great series. I haven't been able to put it down since I started it yesterday. This is the second book in the Devil's Dust Motorcycle Club series. They do need to be read in order. This book picks right back up where the first one, What Doesn't Destroy Us, ends.

2.5 Still annoying chick!

Ok, so it was better than the last one. This time I didn't want to throw my kindle out the window every 4 pages, so I'll count that a a win!

The first part was damn annoying though, the characters were idiots and, again, pretty bypolar. I wanted to DNF it a few times. It did get better later on, it even became a bit interesting and managed to surprised me.

So let's toast for giving books a second chance (whether they deserve it or not!)

“Dani, you’re mine. That hasn’t changed and it never will.”

Scars That Define Us was a great, great follow up that quite frankly DID NOT let me down!! Lately, I’ve just about given up on 90% of all MC reads (with the exception of: this author, Chantal Fernando, Kristen Ashley, Joanna Wylde, and Jamie Begley) and their sequels because they never match the hype or quality of what I expect.

Thankfully, in this sequel, it does live up to what I wanted, while diving into the disastrous aftermath of Dani’s mother’s poisonous lies and what it could mean for Dani, Shadow, and the entire Devil’s Dust MC.

-Will Dani be able to convince Shadow and the club of her loyalty? Is she going to be next on the Devil's Dust hit list? Will Shadow recede back into his former self and ever trust Dani again? And what will the future lead for them?-

“Mine and Dani’s relationship is no love story with some happily ever after. What we have is real. It’s dark and it hurts…This is the life of hell we’ve redeemed for ourselves.”

Gosh, M.N. Forgy I have no idea how you did it! I just did not know how you were going to pull this story off with everything in tatters from book 1 while still keeping readers engaged and putting an original spin on the plot and story with some added definitive flair!

Two of the BIGGEST ISSUES that I have with MC reads are the 1) surplus amount of drama, violence, sex, womanizing, and useless ploys AND 2) the short, quipped vulgar language of the men in the club. It’s just a turn off with the excess amount of crap that are added into MC books and to come across grown men who sound like ill educated teenagers and swear every other word. It just does not float my boat and is severely obnoxious.

SO NO GUYS, in case you're wondering, the author did not hit these pet peeves of mine, but somehow, managed to keep the essence of this story tasteful, well balanced, and "spellbindingly addicting"!

Great job Ms. Forgy!! And I look forward to more from this series!

Can’t wait for X & X’s (*sorry, I’m not allowed to tell!) story!! Woohoo!!♥ ♥

MY RATING ☆☆☆☆☆ The Scars That Define Us (The Devil's Dust, #2)by M.N. Forgy

The story starts off with Dani making a re-appearance after all that went down at the end of book 1..She's standing nervously outside the compound of the clubhouse scared of what awaits her once she enters those doors, worst case scenario is a bullet to the head from none other than Shadow..

REDEMPTION

I chose the club over Dani ~ Shadow

I had nothing to do with my mother and her plans to take down the club..

I'M IN LOVE WITH THE DEVIL

Boundaries will be shattered

I never un-laid claim to her as my ol'lady, law is, an ol' lady is yours unless you un-lay claim to her ~ Shadow

Retaliations will be required.

Reading the interaction between Dani and Shadow you are yet again drawn into their love for one another, you will feel the betrayal, their pain, their loss and most of all the road to recovery..

Our love was never meant to happen but awoke by chance. Only time will tell if hope gets us anywhere or if it's just a word they teach people who are giving up ~ Dani

I loved book one "What Doesn't Destroy Us" (The Devil's Dust, #1) and thought whoa it's going to be a tall order making me fall in love with book 2!! But guess what I LOVED IT just as much if not more!! The angst, the moment of sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see where the story line was going to go towards the end and that releasing of breath I did not know I was holding!!

Redemption will be lost.

4.5 "No Regrets in Life, No Fear in Love" Stars! Wow, why did I wait so long to read The Scars That Define Us! M.N. Forgy's MC Romance style parallels all of the elements that I enjoy in a good MC Romance. A little darkness, grit, and suspense combined with hot, passionate chemistry! There is just something deeply satisfying about a love relationship being the salve that cleanses us of our sins and allows us to experience the true joys in life. In the Scars That Define Us we get to see the climax of Dani's and Shadow's love story and learn that sometimes the setting free of a little well-deserved evil is the perfect bridge to experiencing one's life and love potential. After all, in the end, we must all decide what is the most important part of our lives. In this case, it is seemingly Club/Society versus Family/Love. If the choice were yours, which would you pick?

The Scars That Defines Us starts off where What Doesn't Destroy Us leaves off. Danielle "Dani" Lexington has been betrayed by her mother. Although Dani was previously unaware, her mother is an FBI agent, and she has used her to try to infiltrate and incriminate the Devil's Dust MC. Having previously led a very sheltered life, Dani was just getting to explore her darker more natural side, when she moved in with her father, Leo "Bull" Goodman, the Devil's Dust MC President. During this short stint, Dani met, and began to fall in love with, "Shadow", the sexy, dark and brooding, MC's Sergeant at Arms and designated hit-man (when the MC's business calls for it).

Dani's determined to resume the only life that she has ever felt was worth living--back with the MC. If that means further exploring her darker side, then so be it. She is determined to do whatever it takes to win back the only family/love she has ever truly felt a part of.

Loyalty being the number 1 most important trait to a MC Club, however, Dani is in serious trouble. Will the MC ever consider allowing her back into its fold? Will they even ask questions or just bury their little problem? Could her father and "old man", her family, possibly be so cold? Moreover, even if the MC forgives her, could she ever gain Shadow's trust again, particularly given his specific trust issues as a result of his terrible childhood?

What a fantastic look into the MC outlaw world! In particular, I enjoyed that though this read delved into some pretty, deep dark topics, it never was graphic enough to be truly considered a "dark romance". Accordingly, this is a MC Romance that should appeal to a wider audience.

Deeply emotional, and erotically sexy, The Scars that Define Us was fantastic. In particular, my heart went out to Dani. What a cruel twist of fate. Just as she was beginning to truly experience life, she was betrayed by the one person who claimed to want to protect her from evil. In the end, however, I really enjoyed the message that true family/love always prevail.

Next up in this series is Doc's and Bobby's love story, which was released earlier this month. I can't wait to read The Broken Pieces of Us, Book 3 in the Devil's Dust MC Series!

DNF. I thought maybe Dani would grow a spine in this book but nah, nope she didn't.

First of all she finds Shadow in bed with another girl not three days after the shit that went down. Then he brings whores back to the apartment and yeah sure he kicked them out but the intention is still there. He still doesn't explain that he's just mind fucking her when he uses these girls, so in her head he cheated on her and that's what she should be pissed about but no she isnt. Then Shadow FINALLY sees that she wasn't a rat and he's all like "oh I made a mistake, hope she can forgive me and we'll be back together" and she fucking takes him back. Just like that! He hasn't even fully explained himself and the bitch is all "oh I love him and I want him back. Fuck. No. No bitch no.

If I was her I would shoot his leg then make him explain why the fuck he was acting like a total bitch. Cause that's what Shadow is a total bitch.

First of all, when shit went down he straight away accused Dani for being a rat. When you love someone you chose to believe the best in them. Dani had given no reason for Shadow to believe she was a rat, she gave him everything and he still dissed her. I don't care what fucked up issues you have with your mum, sort your shit out Shadow. Also, he starts acting like a complete asshole when she comes back, hurting Tom Cat when he's only doing his job. ONE that Bull offers him but he was too busy being a bull headed asshole so he declines it, poor Tom. Then he throws these whores in her face but then refuses to let her move on claiming she will always be his until he says so?

Okay hold up, I'm all for the alpha male, it's sexy but thus guy is just fucking loco. He was just too overbearing and downright rude.

I can't, I just can't. Dani is a spineless weak piece of shit, she couldn't even fight back with her mum. Instead she lets her walk all over even when she betrayed her and fucked up her life she just sit there's and takes her shit. But she spouts bullshit in her head like "I hate her she's dead to me. She's a bitch blah blah" but then doesn't do Or say shit when the chance is given. Which is also the same with Shadow. I feel like the author didn't even have a clue what kind of character Dani was. There were moments when Dani would act like a tough bitch but she just turns into this helpless pathetic girl who let's people say nd do mean shit to her and she doesn't mouth or fight back. It made absolutely no sense....honestly get your shit straight.

I realky tried to give this book a chance but it's shit. No idea how it got good ratings but whatever. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone.....ever!

*3.5* Listening to this book was like watching a bad TV show. The entire time you know it's not quality but you're hooked just the same. There were annoying inconsistencies throughout the story. Things that happened in book one are told in a different way in book 2. Did the author forget what she wrote? And the characters flip-flopped so many times it felt like they had multiple personalities.

This MC had church every day and sometimes multiple times a day. It made no sense! There was only one prospect. It was like the club was only pretending to be a real club. It was a baby mc.

Shadow and Dani continue to have a relationship like an old wooden roller coaster. Unsafe, and about to fall apart at any minute, but also kinda thrilling. Dani gets physically abused as a plot mover consistently in this series. If I was her, I would never leave the house.

OMGee I have been stalking MN Forgy like crazy ever since I finished up What Doesn't Destroy Us!! After the way WDDU ended I was yelling and screaming at my kindle needing more asap!! How could Dani's mother do that to her? Why did she hate her as much as she does? Will Shadow ever learn the truth or will he always continue to push Dani away? Will she be next on the Devils Dust hit list?

When I got this ARC on my kindle I was so freaking excited!! Once I started reading it, I was hooked and devoured it as fast as I could!! I absolutely love Shadow and Dani so I was hoping the two would fight and find their way back to each other!! There was a few times I just wanted to jump thru my kindle and shake the crap out of Shadow but eventually he had me falling in love with him all over again!!

 photo PicMonkeyCollage-9.jpg

TSTDU starts right where WDDU leaves off....she has just finally been released from custody and has no where left to go. She stands outside of the club for hours wondering what to do...If she goes inside will they kill her for betryaying them? As expected, she has been outcasted by the whole club, including her father until she can prove herself. All she wants to do is run into Shadow's arms but once she finds him her heart will only shatter more. Why?!?!

Shadow knew he shouldn't have let Dani into his heart but now that he has he can't get her out!! No matter how hard he tries to forget her all he can see is her green eyes staring back at him causing him to question everything!! With the help of her father and Bobby will Shadow wake up before its to late? Will he push Dani to far?

My heart broke for Dani from the start!! After the way her own mother has done her and treated her I was ready to beat Lady myself!! I loved Dani in WDDU but watching her character grow in TSTDU...HOLLLYY COW she is such a total badazz!! She was tired of being pushed around and being put down so I loved seeing the Devil's Dust blood inside her come out!!

That ending......LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!!!! I don't want to give anything away so just go now....go one click!!! You seriously won't regret it!!!!

Gahhhhh my emotions were all over the place with this book but OMG I am still on a HUGE book hangover!! I don't know what in the world I am going to read next but it's going to have to be something big to help take my mind off Shadow and Dani!! MN Forgy....Abso..freaking...lutely amazing!! I can't wait for more of your books especially The Devil's Dust #3!!!!!!!

After being betrayed by the only love of his life, Shadow is trying to come to terms with having his heart ripped apart. Shadow's life within the Devil's Dust MC is hanging in the balance after trusting Dani, and outsider that he should have never gotten involved in. Shadow will be tested deep within. He must find a way to trust his brothers and the woman he loves.

 photo dani_zpscaha80uz.jpg

Dani's life has been turned upside down and she has no where to turn. Her only option at this point is to go back the MC that all the members think she ratted on to the FBI. Her only option leads her down a dirt road that could lead to her death.

As Dani pushes her way back inside, the entire MC member are on opposite sides of hating and loving her. Dani now needs to prove to everyone she is not the inside rat most think she is. She also needs to find a way to repair her heart that was also shattered when Shadow was the first to not trust her.

Things are never simple in a motorcycle club and Devil's Dust is no exception.

Book 2 in the Devil's Dust Series was AMAZING!! This was by far better than book 1 and I thank the reading Gods for pushing me to keep going in this series.

To some degree I was very disappointed thinking the storyline was gonna go a certain way. With how it ended in the first book, you'd have thought there would have been some vindictiveness, plots of revenge, and acts of violence from Dani against her mother and Stevin. Not to mention the FBI ramping up there efforts in trying to take down the club. But nope there was none of that!

 photo Shadow5.jpg

Instead there was a rebuild in the love story, overcoming mistrust and acts of betrayal, even that was rushed. Some of the events that happened along with the ending was cliché, your like yep I pegged that. But as I stated during my reading status, its very good read, I'd recommend it to anyone.

 photo MCclubs.jpg

Makes me wonder how Bobby and Docs Story will play out in the next book. Or if there will be any retaliation against Augustus and his men. Call me blood thirsty but I just don't feel Shadow and Dani story is really done.

This is everything that I want in an edgy biker romance. Shadow can be a real S.O.B and he owns it. Knowing that he is a volatile, overly aggressive, chauvinistic, domineering, and over all difficult man he still grabs hold of what he wants and keeps it for himself. Even believing that Dani has betrayed the club, Shadow can't turn off his feelings for her and that just pisses him off even more. Dani is his Achilles heel, the only person who ever tempted him to put something before his beloved club and for Shadow that is unacceptable and he sets out to punish not only Dani but himself as well.

Hoping that her father will show her more understanding and support than she ever received from her mother Dani has returned to the club. Dani feels that her only hope of surviving is i to convince the club that she had nothing to do with the damage done to the club. That her mother set her up along with the club. Dani knew that it wasn't going to be easy but she wasn't prepared for the rejection and abandonment dished out by the one man that she loved, trusted, and came to depend on.

Shadow's love for Dani is scary and beautiful all at the same time. Shadow isn't a man who doesn't know his own strength and power therefore accidentally crushing or punishing the ones he loves. Shadow's power to hurt others is fully recognized by him and his struggle is to keep it leased so that he inflicts the least amount of pain and suffering on those he loves. Shadow loves frighteningly deeply, he simply doesn't know how to love safely. Shadow is so broken and tormented by his own demons that he the ones he loves, his club brothers and Dani, are often thrown on the jagged pieces of it instead of being protected by him.

Forge has brought us back to the gritty and disturbing world surrounding the Devil's Dust Motorcycle Club with a bang. The books starts with the fall out from the conclusion of book one and sweeps the reader along a fast paced, crazy, naughty, violent story that doesn't let you go until the very end. Dani's dark side continues to peek through surprising her with how powerful and satisfying acting out makes her feel. Shadow does things for the love of Dani that would be sweet if they weren't so dang disturbing. Shadow is not the kind of man to show his love with flowers, candy, and romantic dates. No, Shadow's proof of love can be found at the business end of a sniper rifle. Forge has managed to make a man so badly damaged almost endearing. I know it sounds crazy but it's true. I've decided not to examine my love of Shadow too closely. I don't really want to know what that may mean for me!

The Scars That Define Us was a wonderful follow up to What Doesn't Destroy Us and is another addition to my favorites list. I am just going to embrace my greedy reader ways and say that I need the next book, The Fear That Divides Us as soon as possible!

Holy Hell, Batman!

tumblr_m2h4x4bY5A1r23eceo1_500

I'm not generally one to include gifs in my reviews, but this book warranted it.  This book was everything that I look for in an MC romance, with a little bit more.  With the continuation of Shadow and Dani's story, I just knew this was going to be the part where Shadow had to break to become the man he wanted to be for Dani.

Of course, right at the very beginning I wasn't very sure there was going to be a Dani and Shadow.  Almost everyone within Devil's Dust believed Dani was in on her mother's evil plan to do away with her ex and his MC.  So it was no surprise that she didn't receive the warmest welcome when she went back to the only place she had left.  The only person who believed in Dani, and had from the very beginning, was Bobby.  His faith in Dani, his need to stand by her when no one else did.  His need to help her move on and to never give up on his best friend, no matter how hard he was pushed away, made it easy to see why Dani would willingly stay with him when she knew no one else wanted her.

Dani never had an easy life, but realizing your mother used you and your recently found father kicked her to the curb has a way of breaking her.  But losing Shadow is the tipping point for her.  When Shadow turned his back on her, she broken.  No matter how badly she's hurt by his lack of trust and faith in her, she can't help but long for her equally broken man.  Everything she did was to try and evoke some kind of reaction out of Shadow, whether it was good or bad, because whether he was kissing her or yelling at her, at least he was there with her.

But Shadow wasn't that much better off without Dani.  Despite falling back on old habits of alcohol and drugs, he found the only thing that could calm his beast was Dani.  He hated himself for being, what her considered, weak with his need for her, having felt like she broke his trust, but he knew that if his brothers were to decide Dani needed to be taken care of, he would get the call.  It was a tough realization to carry around with him, considering how much he loved her and wanted to think she couldn't have done what everyone said she did.

It takes Shadow and Dani a significant portion of the book to work through their issues and as they work through their issues, other issues within the MC arise.  It's how Shadow and Dani handle those issues, as a team, that proves how strong their relationship is.  When both of them could have stomped off because of more secrets or conveniently leaving out information, they worked through their issues.  They got mad, they may have yelled, but in the end they knew they would always fight to protect each other and their relationship.

Book three in the series, THE FEAR THAT DIVIDES US,  comes out early 2015 and will focus on Bobby and his relationship with Doc.  I love Bobby and can't wait to see just what his story brings.

4.5 STARS!

The perfect conclusion to Dani & Shadow's story. A mix of dark, gritty, and the softer side to bikers. Heartbreaking, heartfelt, and twists that leave you gasping. I loved every bit.

"No regret in life. No fear in love"

We were left hanging off a cliff with the first book. Dani betrayed by her mother, the club in jeopardy, and an unpredictable future.

I have to say I loved this book more than the first. There were a few things I didn't care for in the first, I'm so glad I decided to read the next book, because the author blew me away with this one. I fell in love with these hard headed characters, the angst, and the story in general. She balances the dark with light well. I loved the dark parts, but to be honest, I fell for the character's softer side. (Don't tell anyone, ruin my rep.) Let's just say I laughed, cried, and changed my panties. If you accomplish that, I'm a fan. This book ends the story for Dani & Shadow, but not for the rest of the members. I can't wait to read about THEIR stories.

I really hate to do this and I tried so hard and gave this series a 2 book trial . It was awful !

What I love about Mc books is that at least the brothers are loyal to one another even if they cheat on their women . The Mc is supposed to be a family. Well these people couldn’t be loyal to a soul.

They fucked whores while having old ladies and wives . The president himself was fucking one of his brothers wives while the brother fucked everyone who moved . Literally no one is loyal! Then brothers were turning on the club , turning on other brother’s old ladies .

I really hate the hero because every time something doesn’t go his way he snorts cocaine and runs to the club whores and treats the heroine like dirt . He even turned on his best friend .

Then heroine gets pregnant and the hero leaves her battered by several men with a baseball bat because he’s not sure if he wants a child . Leaves her alone in the hospital and of course she walks into the clubhouse he and a clubwhore that he used regularly were touching .

Then he decided he wants her and the child and this heroine just forgives him every single time . I can not count the times he has turned her away to be caught with sluts and whores . Where is the redemption? Where is the Hea ? Oh wait !

This author keeps cycling these couples . They don’t get a Hea because even when you think they do they do something to betray one another over and over . Even couples who have been together for years . There is not point to getting to the end of the story!

I’m sorry but this club is just full of miserable disloyal people who will never get a Hea from this author . I would not try another one of her books if she paid me . This one gave me flashbacks . 😂 Kidding but if there was ptsd by book I would have it from this series .

I honestly tried but this series and author are just not for me . With all of this criticism I do want to add a positive. The first books writing was choppy . This book’s writing style was smooth and much better as far as the way she writes . The story snd characters were crap but the writing was better .

With all of that said I am parting ways with this author . She is not for me and it wouldn’t be fair to continue to read books that I know I will not like and will end up rating them poorly . I wish her all the luck and hope she doesn’t emotionally and physically exhaust these characters before the end of the series . If you like cheating angst then this is the series for you . Enjoy.

Once again M.N. Forgy has told a story of love, lust, hatred, passion and regret all tied up in an awesome biker family package.
When Dani bravely comes back to face her father and Shadow she is ready to take whatever they have to dish out (or so she thinks), since anything is better than dealing with her lying, back-stabbing mother. What happens to her when she returns to the fold is heartbreaking, violent but ultimately shows what she's really made of and how strong her connection really is to both her dad and her man.
This one was chock full of romance, hot sex, club action and some really twisted family drama and I loved every second of it.
I can't wait to see what this author has up her sleeve for future books.

*** JOSIE'S 4.5 STAR REVIEW ***

Please read Book 1 in the Devils Series before reading this review, it will have spoilers.

OMG, I have been waiting for this book since I read the last page from the first one. Once again M.N. Forgy has sucked me into the life of the Devils Nests members, Shadow and Dani (Firefly) and of course Bobby. The Scars that Define Us is the last book on Shadow and Dani and the author has ended their story the same way she started it. It’s full of angst, drama, hot sex, dirty sexy biker talk and cat fights. I absolutely love Shadow and Dani, and this time things are tenser with the couple. They are both dealing with Dani’s mother’s lies. They are both put to the test in this book but this time Dani happens to be the stronger one.

With nowhere else to go after her mother claims she was helping to bring down the Devil’s Nest, she goes back to her father and the club. Dani knows she hasn’t done anything wrong and will work to gain back everyone’s trust. The one person she wants to see is Shadow. Dani did not expect to see a drunken, cruel and whoring out Shadow when she comes back. She is devastated by his lack of trust and faith in her, but she will prove to everyone else that she is not a rat. She is sent to stay with Bobby and must stay away from the club house until her father can prove she had no part in her mother’s actions.

“Coming back here was stupid. Only reason you’re still here is because your father is the president. Otherwise, your ratting a** would be six feet under. Trust the girl who took my soul and smothered it with her lies? I don’t think so babe”

“F*** you, Shadow. I’m not a rat. Shadow, I never had your trust to begin with, so believe whatever the h*** you want.”

Shadow is having a hard time trying to sort out the feelings he has for Dani. The club is his life and he will not walk away from them. He will do whatever the club asks of him. Even if that means killing Dani if it is found out she betrayed the club. He loves Firefly and can’t function without her, but it is easier to act out and be cruel than to trust that she never lied to him or the club. He is upset with his best friend Bobby for believing she had nothing to do with her mother’s actions and because he had agreed to help her. He is ok with getting drunk, passing out, and taking whores to his room but he is not prepared for Dani moving on.

“Dani went on a date.”

“What? Why’d you let her go on a date? Why didn’t you tell me?”

“You made it clear you didn’t want Dani!”

“I never un-laid claim to her as my ol’ lady.”

Bobbyl played a bigger part in this book and I love him for it. He was not afraid to call Shadow out on his actions. He was loyal to his president and to Firefly. He held strong that she was innocent and he made sure Shadow knew he was making a mistake for not trusting Dani, a mistake that cost him Firefly.

“You f***** up, and you know it. Dani didn’t have anything to do with her mother and yet you cast her to the side. She deserves to move forward. It’s not her fault you’re so f***** up you can’t see a good thing when it’s standing in front of you!”
,/I>

Shadow does not like the idea of Dani moving on but he still can’t fully trust her. However, he will not let anyone take what is his. Dani knew getting involved with Shadow would be hard but when Shadow gets all alpha male possessive, she is not afraid to put him in his place.

“You’re mine, Dani.”

“Like H***”

“You’re my property until I say so. You and I know you’ll never escape my h***. ”

“F***, you. I’ll find a way.”

“Believe what you like. But believe this, you are mine.”

When Shadow final sees that he has failed Dani he will stop at nothing to make things up to her. The problem is someone else is determined to bring the club down and things are starting to get dangerous.

“I will make this up to Dani somehow. I should have trusted her. I should have listened to her but I didn’t. I took the path of mistrust and damaged us both.”

“Your body may want me, but I’m greedy. I need all of you Dani, including your heart.”

Just when things in the club are getting somewhat normal tragedy strikes and now someone is setting up the club and killing members. Who will be the next victim? Will Shadow trust Dani enough to have the love of the only woman to hold his heart? Will Dani be able to forgive Shadow and move on with him? Will the club find out who the real rat is before it is too late? All thee questions are answered in this book. I can’t wait for book when we get Bobby’s story.

“Wear your scars with pride. Live with no regrets.”

Scars and regret – those are two words that both Dani and Shadow know a lot about, and as Book 2 picks up right where What Doesn’t Destroy Us left off, it will be those wounds and lamentations that will push them both to their limits and have them seeking revenge for all that others have cost them.

At the heart of Dani’s scars is betrayal. Her mother’s treachery and Shadow’s disloyalty cut her deeply, and they’ve darkened her heart. She’s falsely accused of a crime against the Devil’s Dust, her father, and Shadow, and they all but turn their backs on her without giving her a chance to even explain and that speaks volumes to Dani. But even though she doesn’t know what she’s truly up against when she heads back to the club, Dani knows that she’ll regret not trying to make things right if she walks away because without the club and its members, she has nothing.

For Shadow, his scars are much deeper, and they torment him on a daily basis, forcing him into the darkness no matter what he does to try to prevent it. He craves violence and destruction to heal his soul from his wounds of abandonment and duplicity. By finally letting Dani in, he put a lot on the line, and now all he feels is rage and a thirst for revenge, thinking she conned him from the start.

“No regret in life. No fear in love.”

It’s going to take a lot for both Dani and Shadow’s scars to stop festering and spurring them on. Shadow feels like he’s incapable of giving Dani what she wants regardless of how much he loves her. He’s the devil, and he’s afraid he’ll only destroy her if they try to put their relationship back together after the fallout that occurred due to her mother. But Dani’s stronger than he thinks, and there’s a darkness inside her that binds her to him, and when push comes to shove, she’ll prove that she has hell’s fury inside by protecting what’s hers and fighting for the redemption that both she and Shadow deserve.

The Scars that Define Us is a dark and gritty read that illustrates the steps that people will take to redeem themselves in the eyes of those they love. There’s fantastic character development in the story; readers are privy to both Dani and Shadow’s inner thoughts, which helps shed light on why/how they’ve become who they are. M.N. Forgy doesn’t rush things between Dani and Shadow, which is exactly why the storyline works well for me. It is going to take some time and soul searching to get past the sense of betrayal that was created due to the showdown with Dani’s mom, and it’s not something that should be taken lighlty and neither are the choices Shadow made when dealing with the fallout. If you’re a reader who loves MC works with great main and secondary characters and a whole lot of drama and action packed into the pages, M.N. Forgy’s Devil Dust series is definitely one to one-click!

I just finished The Scars That Define Us and I enjoyed it. This apart of The Devil's Dust Series so you do have to read What Doesn't Destroy Us first to be able to understand what is going on. Scars picks up right after Destroy and you get the sense that things will never be the same. At the end of Destroy it is believed that Dani betrayed her family, the club and most importantly Shadow, her ol man. To say that the club is beyond pissed is an understatement. To the club any rats are dealt with as they see fit. Being Bulls' daughter (president) makes things hard for a decision to be made. She claims innocence so with that being said she is shipped off to Bobby's house (a brother that defends her). Shadow still wants her even though at this point he loathes her. He definitely has trust issues. He dealt with his anger with booze and "women" and Dani cannot be with a man who would do that to her. They both still want each other but there are going to be some major obstacles in their way. Will they be able to have their HEA? You will have to read and see.

I liked the story and I thought that it flowed really well. For being a sequel I like how Miss Forfy kept things as they were with the characters and storyline. Anything with bikers is a go for me and this didn't disappoint. I liked the secondary characters as well. Bobby being my favorite and I cannot wait to see what his story is all about. Things were predictable and that is why Im taking it down on rating a bit. For me there wasn't that shock factor, it was just me personal that I wanted more. Just so you know, I still enjoyed the story.

Shadow for me is still a sexy beast! I understand his hesitancy on his trust issues. I just wish he would have given Dani the benefit of the doubt and listened before he presumed her guilty immediately. I mean I understand it but would have wanted that differently. I think I got frustrated with him with some of his decisions but hey hes a guy, what do you expect. I liked Dani, I liked how she was a little different then Destory. I like how her innocence was shattered and she was coming into her own skin. Her vulnerability with the situation made her stronger. One thing that is for her is that I liked their chemistry. Their banter was hot and it just scorched the pages. It was a definitely a wild ride.

Trust me, stick with this author. She knows what she is writing!!

4.5 Crowns

Book 2 in The Devil's Dust MC series. This is a continuation of book 1 and therefore must only be read once you have read What Doesn't Destroy us.

I LOVED book 1, but man, did it end on the mother of all cliffhangers. I seriously could have thrown the kindle at the author's head with the epic ending that we were left with. I am so pleased that M.N Forgy didn't leave us waiting for months on end to conclude Dani and Shadow's story. I don't think I would have coped.

So the story really does pick up where book 1 left us. Dani is being questioned by the FBI and in particular her mother who has used her to infiltrate the MC club that her father presides over. Dani knows little of MC life but she does know one thing, she isn't a rat! unwilling to co-operate she finds herself back in the clubs clutches.

Will they believe her innocence? How will her re-appearance effect club dynamics? and where does this turn of events leave her relationship with Shadow?

It took a lot for Shadow to trust Dani. She broke through his hard exterior and he showed her the darkness that not many people truly see. Shadow feels betrayed on so any levels, daily life has become a struggle without the bit of light he had come to rely on.

Will Shadow eliminate the source of his weakness? Will he follow club orders? or will he learn to trust again?

As with book 1, this is another seriously dark instalment in a super fantastic MC series. M.N Forgy has created 2 characters that have so much depth to them that leaves you fascinated by their decisions, their thoughts and the chemistry that they share. This is no easy ride for our dark duo, they have to fight themselves, each other and many people along the way; it truly is long road for them. This book though has a lot more club politics and the club face a unknown threat. It means that the whole club including their women are at risk and it makes for a page turning backdrop to Dani and Shadows story. Again Bobby gives light relief, I seriously love that man. You get to see more of him in this book, which I lapped up.

A nail biting conclusion to Dani and Shadow's story, and what a story it was - M.N Forgy is extremely talented and I am in awe of her writing. It's left me seriously excited about book 3, The Fear That Divides us, which will be ?'s story.

If you love your MC reads on the grittier/dark side, you have to read this book!

What Doesn't Destroy Us ended in such a way that I was pining for more from the Devil's Dust gang! Ugh; to torment myself further before I started The Scars That Define Us I re-read the last few chapters.

Thank goodness I had book two to delve into!

MN Forgy, you did not disappoint. From the hate-to-love and love-to-hate flowing through the club to the push and pull between Shadow (*SWOON*) and Dani I devoured page after page needing more from them. Needing it all and more from them.

Trust is something neither of them had a lot of going into their relationship and with the developments spanning from the end of book one it was something that took a long time to regain.

Either way, I will make this up to Dani somehow. I should have trusted her. I should have listened to her, but I didn’t. I took the path of mistrust and damaged us both. Now I’ll have to earn her trust once again.

And, damn if I didn't fall in love with Shadow all over again! He's mine, ladies! I want the hand on my thigh as we ride and I want the leather cut and I want our song to be The Reason by Hoobastank (one of my favourites!)

The story progressed flawlessly and I felt truly immersed in all things Devil's Dust from the guys to the Old Ladies down to the Doc and Prospects. Expect drama, intrigue, heartbreak, breathtaking scenes and a whole lot of angst, sex and darkness!

The ending could not be more perfect and the way it ties into the next book in the series - one I could not be more happier about - once again has me counting down until the release like I have been for this book, the conclusion (but, I hope, nowhere near the ending) of Dani and Shadow's chapter.

“You’re the Devil’s Dust.” ... “You have Hell’s fury inside you; it owns you and consumes your thoughts. There is no escaping it. The anger and darkness which is harbored within you will surprise you, making its presence when it sees fit"
