Fight terror with terror. International art sleuth Adriana Villa’s life is dangerous enough. Saving stolen masterpieces—by stealing them back from the thieves, gangsters, and war criminals who hoard them—has nearly killed her more times than she can count. So, when a secret government agency recruits her to help hunt down a furtive terrorist network bent on stealing some of the world’s most powerful missiles, Adriana takes some persuading. She is, after all, in no hurry to die battling an even more lethal brand of killer. And saving priceless art is nothing like fighting to save the free world. But when she learns of their plan to smuggle a handful of the deadly rockets into London and kill tens of thousands of innocents in the largest terrorist attack in history, Adriana relents—and goes to war. Victory won’t come easily, though. To launch their murderous strikes, the terrorists will deploy every scheme, every tactic they can think of to stop, or kill, anyone who gets in their way—even the most dangerous woman in the world. Fresh off the runaway success of his wildly popular Sean Wyatt thriller series, USA TODAY best-selling author Ernest Dempsey again electrifies readers with his newest edge-of-your-seat shocker. Adriana Villa is a ruthless modern-day hero in a deadly modern-day fight for freedom, and she’ll have to fight nearly as dirty as the enemy to save all our lives.
Ernest Dempsey is a huge fan of action/adventure thrillers and science fiction.
He has been creating stories since he was in high school but never published a book until 2010, long after the days of high school were gone.
His action & adventure books come from a lineage similar to Clive Cussler, Dan Brown, Steve Berry, and James Rollins. While his science fiction novels are full of influence from Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games, The Matrix movie, and Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott.
He is quickly becoming one of the hottest fiction authors in the book world.
I received a free advance copy from the author for my honest review and I also purchased it from amazon.com. Please note for the month of December, author Ernest Dempsey is donating all proceeds from the sale of 'A Shadow Cell' will be donated to charities to help with disaster relief efforts around the world. 'So many people have been affected by hurricanes, earthquakes, and many other kinds of disasters. I thought this might be a good way to help.'
'A Shadow Cell' is a long over due, Adriana Villa novel or at least for me it is. Adriana is a pretty interesting character, she is Sean Wyatt's girlfriend and a great support character for that series.
The story starts out kind of dumb, as Adriana Villa in Munich working for a client to get a piece of stolen art work back. When she gets drug, then wakes up tied to a chair, with a hood over her head, she's pissed off, gets a job offer to work for Shadow Cell, she'll think on it, walks out of a abandon warehouse and ends up talking with Joan who is a member of the group.
Duh, did Dempsey ever miss a better way to start this one. He could have tied into the latest Sean Wyatt release, 'The Fourth Prophecy'. While Sean and Tommy are off to Washington, D.C., he could have had Adriana and Joan, heading out to the spa for the weekend, then while getting a hot stone massage, have June recruit Adriana for her help, without telling her about Shadow Cell, once she kills a terrorist leader and have her fess up to what she did.
Don't want to give too much away, but Adriana ends up working for Shadow Cell, while in Paris researching for the lost piece of Art from World War II, a terrorist attack happens near her, she goes to the scene and takes out a sniper who planned to kill first responders.
Dempsey writes a good story, When Shadows Call the start of a new series, glad to see him get back to writing about Adriana Villa and definitely a worthy author to check out.
Ernest Dempsey has always managed to produce fantastic all-action thrillers about searching for various artifacts which usually have paranormal powers, but in this series he is dealing with more human demons, namely terrorists who want cause death and mayhem throughout the world.
He has created a (fictional) secretive government organisation which Adriana is recruited into to help in the fight for the freedom of the world. The action and excitement are all to the same level as in Dempsey's other books, but this is a novella-length book so all the mayhem is even more concentrated and heart-stopping.
I can't wait for the next installment of this great new series.
ED. has. penned the next adventure in the files of the absolutely fantastic art thief, but in this rendition he has A secret US. Government Agency contacting her and it she accepts her mission impossible quest she will be chasing thieves that have missiles for sale. The Agency bridge her on the background of this Shadow Cell and determined for herself what she is up against. She is masterful at retrieving stolen art now she will try her hand at stolen missiles from a Middle Eastern terrorist organization. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
I have read most of the Sean Wyatt series so I am familiar with Adriana. I have also read the third book in this series. I like her. She is tough and kicks ass. This had plenty of action. The main character is developed nicely. A minor quibble is the bad guys weren’t developed too much. Possibly because they weren’t around long enough? This is a good read, nice and easy. Learning how Adriana got involved with the Shadow Cell was interesting was a bonus. Recommended.
Excellent writer. Only problem is, his books end too soon. I think I have read most, if not all of them and I am always wishing they kept going. They have a good conclusion, I am just not ready for them to end. One of the things I appreciate most is his command of the English language. He is intelligent enough to realize that everything can be said without the use of profane language. There are an awfully lot of intelligent readers out there who appreciate that also. I wish more writers would realize that. Keep up the good work, my friend and write faster.
The first in a new Adriana Villa series by Ernest Dempsey, which will be a hit if they are all as action-packed as this book is. While Adriana Villa isn't a new character, this series promises to take her and June into new areas and adventures, providing another entertainment avenue for readers of Mr. Dempsey's work. I received an advance reader copy of this book and voluntarily chose to write a review.
I know you've been reading all the books in Ernest Dempsey's Sean Wyatt series ..... they are great! But now, Sean's main squeeze Adriana has been asked to begin working with The Shadow Cell (without Sean's knowledge)! And, she has been recommended by none other than ....... but that would be revealing a big secret, so I'll let you find out for yourself. This is the first book in the new Shadow Cell series. Dempsey's books are always compelling and exciting. Can't wait for book 2.
Thrilling new series . Don't start to read at bedtime on a work night as it is hard to put down. The main character is one we know from the Sean Wyatt series and she is a good read on her own. Mr Dempsey has left you hanging and waiting for the next installment and it will be as good as the first. Mr Dempsey has another hit series.
Another 5 star rating and it is well deserved. Keep up the good writing and we can't wait for the next Shadow Cell.
The start of a great new series from Ernest Dempsey, featuring Adriana Villa. Recruited by a Secret Government Agency Adriana is sent off to hunt down and stop a terrorist organisations must use all her skills and ingenuity to win. Fast paced and action packed a real page turner. Great to see Adriana in her own series again and looking forward to many more so hurry up with the writing Mr Dempsey.
Adrianna is on the hunt but not for stolen, missing art work . This time she's looking for terrorists. First turning down the "job offer." Going her merry way looking for her next priceless painting her searching was stopped by an explosion. Racing to the devastating scene Adrianna spots a sniper and the story escalates from there. Great job. Thank you.
I accidentally read this series out of order, but that didn't detract from the book at all. Adrianna makes an awesome heroine and gets better with every book. The plot is about current real issues and headlines, which makes it very real. Great book.
I read the Sean Wyatt series and enjoy reading about Adrianna Villa. I remember the story that mentioned her returning from helping June find terrorists. I was very excited to find the books that tell of those adventures. Thankfully for an adventure that is fast-paced and exciting. I look forward to reading the next Shadow Cell Thriller.
Ernest Dempsey-creator of a great heroine and new agency concept. A friend sees the potential in Adriana to be part of a new organization. Adriana takes the challenge and proves to be formidable in her.catching up to terrorists. She wins the bad guys lose. Then the leaders come up with a concept to capture her for the next book. Terrific novella.
Interesting premise for Adriana and June to be involved in counter terrorism. These are two women who kick A.. Characters are well developed, like able or hateful as the case may be. Story line is developed and interesting, as are all of Mr. Dempsey’s books. Enjoyable read!
So glad Adriana took the job with June. They are two of my favorite characters. Interesting that they have their own adventures apart from Shawn and Tommy. Adriana has a wealth of training she uses to get herself and June out of scary situations. On to the next adventure! Thanks
It is a great treat when a background character becomes the Primary actor in the story! Now she is tea teamed up with a friend she only suspected was a greater player than she suspected initially!!!
The story kept me up quite late and I finished the whole book in just 2 days! Has lots of action. I suggest starting to read this when you have the time to read the whole thing in one go!
I Received a free copy in exchange for an Honest review
This was a fast pace and well written novel pitting Adriana Villla against a terrorist organisation. It's short and that's fine with plenty of action it a must read for people who love thrillers
Boo hoo hoo ! I just finished the last of all your books! Time to get busy and write 20 or 30 more! My hubby and I love the style of your writing; we just need more! Please! And Thank You!
Pretty typical of a Dempsey book with implausible escapes from death and scenarios but then it just ends! Suppose it will continue in another book but feeling cheated.
I love all of Ernest Dempsey's books. This was a great addition after reading all the Sean Wyatt books. This one is about his girlfriend who later becomes Sean's wife.
Loved it. Dempsey is one of my favourite authors. If you love a good action novel steeped in indiana jones type intrigue, anything by Dempsey is for you.
I've read most of his books, and this one was great. The beginning of a series. Good plot and the carry over from other books was good. It kept my attention.
Well written action thriller. The heroine was a little hard to believe (but it is, after all, fiction). It was fast-paced, which I enjoy. I rated it 4.4 stars.
This was a decent read full of adventure & mayhem with a woman as the main character dealing out death and destruction !! Will read more from this series.
