Dream big. Set ambitious goals. Attain unusual achievements.

At the age of 68, while still recovering from his second knee injury, Dr. Zeev Gilkis decided to give himself an unusual present for his 70th birthday.

He dreamed of running a full marathon, and completing the seventh decade of his life seemed to him the ideal timing to do so.

Perhaps this ambitious goal wouldn’t have been so unusual, had he been a very physically active person in his younger years. But Zeev is a cancer survivor who began his "career" in sports relatively late, in his mid-60s.

As two years is a long time, he set a milestone for his 69th to go mid-way - running a half marathon.

Along with his plans and dreams, he kept a diary where he recorded the ups and downs, practical tips, and original thoughts that crossed his mind in this long, challenging journey.

Join Zeev in this adventure and discover that age doesn't matter. You too can achieve anything you truly dream of.

In his first two Unlock Bliss, A Memoir of Getting Happier and The Secret of Life, A Memoir of Getting Younger, Dr. Zeev Gilkis shares with listeners the story of his struggle with cancer, some important and original thoughts, and insights into life and happiness, such as that “Age doesn’t matter!” among many others.

In a very simple writing style, he describes some of the key processes in the brain, the role of the immune system and how to care for it, the story of how he got into sports in his 60s, and much more good stuff.

This is an inspirational book. It tells us that you’re never too old to achieve your dreams. Surviving cancer and almost 70 years of age Dr Zeev decides he wants to run a marathon. And here am I claiming I can’t run 5K. If you want something you can achieve it, you just need to truly want so, not just half heartedly. I enjoyed this read, the subject matter in particular. The style was simple and easy to follow. It wasn’t gripping but it was interesting and has a lesson to teach. I give it 3 and a half stars.

Dancing, running, surfing, biking, diving, swimming, and skiing… just to read this book makes me excited and tired (whispering). To think of competing in a triathlon at any age is tiresome but to do it at the age of 65 is almost unheard of. Here is a man 12 years my senior doing all of the above with so much energy that I feel ashamed of my own efforts.
Facing some health problems, he approached it more like a hurdle and adjust his eating and exercise habits in such a manner which only propels him forward. Investing in himself is cardinal to meeting his goal and you can clearly see the results through the many pictures added. I am amazed how in tune he is with his body; every message of his body adhered to and adjusted to achieve his goal.
“Am I enjoying this moment?” a determining factor in his life and how he lives.
His positive outlook is absolutely remarkable. In a conversational way, Dr Zeev tells about his daily routine, his preparations for the different events, and his feelings after the race. An open book filled with nuggets of wisdom and insights into his life. He hides nothing of his difficulties but shares it from a scientific viewpoint while focussing on the how in a positive way. Unblemished and clear you understand his reasoning and the results speak for themselves.
I cannot help but feel encouraged and mesmerized by his way of life and the method he follows. His analytic approach helps us to understand this path more deeply.
He is clearly a proud man that lives his life as he pleases, but humble in so many ways. I didn’t get the idea that he tried to show off his superior knowledge with me. It was more like a show and tell that opens his world to me with a greater depth you get from similar books.
The pictures added an extra layer to his story which I really enjoyed. His trips to India and his meditation breakaways, reveal his spirituality and the importance of a well-balanced person. Balancing is an art form, he perfected with positiveness. His extensive knowledge improves his ideas with finesse as he explains it while keeping it lively and to the point.
“I feel my body, observe it as it moves, almost effortlessly, almost by itself. But I also “feel” the road. Is an everyday way of life to him.
There are so much that we as the younger generation can learn from him. His knowledge and wisdom an eye-opening experience that makes you think.
I wish you luck Dr Zeev. I know that the next year and the marathon will be a wonderful success.
Truly, an awesome book.

Who would have thought that you can get younger instead of older? Being middle age myself, this premise really appeals to me! And after reading Dr. Gilkis’ book I know I can also feel younger by changing my mindset and being more disciplined about what is best for my health. That is something that every middle-aged person needs to hear and achieve! And it is within our power to do so.

Dr. Gilkis is not a stranger to hardship. He has recovered from knee injury and cancer. He learned early on that he could succeed and follow his dreams of good health and well being. He believed in the benefits of sports. Dr. Gilkis set a goal. By his 70th birthday, he wants to run a full marathon. He gave himself a few years to prepare. Given that he wasn’t always a physically active person, this was quite a milestone.

Dr. Gilkis believes that everything begins in the mind. If we keep telling ourselves that we can’t do things as we age, it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy. However, if we decide to age in a healthy manner, we will have to fight our body’s weaknesses and make strengthen our body through hard work and discipline. Dr. Gilkis achieved physical health by running marathons and triathlons.

Dr. Gilkis’ formula for health is to dream big, plan to improve our stamina as much as we can, be persistent, visualize what we would like to achieve, and don’t give up. We can only do these things by knowing that we have the power within to bring about physical health and well-being.

Therefore, we have to make an investment in our health as we age. Given that we live at a time where sedentariness and obesity are at an all-time high, Dr. Gilkis’ formula for health is important. It can save our lives. What is more, physical activity contributes to physical heath. It also helps our brains be healthy.

I loved Dr. Gilkis’ book! It is informative and inspirational! He believes that he can’t succumb to aging. We have to age with the determination to get better each day. I can’t wait to read Dr. Gilkis’ next book!

A refreshing and motivating book that is penned by Dr. Zeev Gilkis about his journey to his marathon as a Septuagenarian - yes, he wanted to run his first marathon for his 70th Birthday and he chronicles his journey throughout the process.

The book is written in a conversational style that's easy to read and understand. His journey is portrayed with refreshing honesty and the grit determination he has shines through.

He not only shares his journey but also the process, which is the key and also what makes this book different and real. It is not a glorified book that hides facts and figures, but a book that is real and talks about winning and how to prepare for it - a winner's mindset and how to get your mind work for you - mind over matter!

Inspiring and informative

This book combines the inspiring journey of the author with some very practical advice on staying young and healthy well past middle age. Triathlon athletes will enjoy the detailed breakdown of the author's training, but almost anyone will benefit from the discussions of the importance of fitness, goals and the balance between work and relaxation.

In his empowering latest, author and renowned scientist, Zeev Gilkis, PhD, offers a spirited guide about competitive running in old age that will nudge any reader toward following their dreams.

He shares his own journey of beginning his sports career in his mid-sixties as a cancer survivor, challenging readers to break through the fear that may come with starting running in later age. Inspiring and engrossing, Gilkis makes a compelling case for actively pursuing a rigorous physical activity.

He successfully lays out a thorough plan for readers to consult while exploring other aspects of running, including nutrition, safety guidelines, recovery techniques, and proper running gear.
He combines his own life experiences with scientific and psychological theories and ideas and offers valuable advice and encouragement for aspiring runners.

But the book is not only about running. It’s about setting a goal and pursing it. It’s also about striving in the face of hardships and disappointments. Competitive runners, particularly the old age group looking for a push will find much of value here.

This incisive, highly motivating inspiring guide should be required reading for any person young or old.

This is a great book told by Dr. Zeev Gilkis. He actually starts the book before some of his ambitious goals, he calls them interim goals, and it's like the readers are following his process. He had a knee injury and admits to being addicted to running, but realizes the work involved in achieving his goals. He shares his charts of running along with so many other stories. I thought the book was interesting as we follow this doctor on his journey. He's been through a lot, including colon cancer, his knee injuries, and his first triathlon at age 66. Very interesting book for anyone interested in memories, in health, and in running (although you do not have to be a runner to enjoy the book).

It’s amazing how mind works over body.
I am so impressed, motivated and highly inspired by the unbeatable will and determination to overcome the physical hurdles that came across by Mr. Gilkis.
I like the way he wrote the book in small chapters and
With so much information from human body to food recipes.

Life lessons but also look at life from a different positive perspective of not giving up no matter what your age is.

‘The journey of life – age doesn’t matter’

Israeli author Zeev Gilkis earned his PhD with his thesis on Artificial Intelligence and other degrees in mathematics, statistics, and computer science – a man of today! He founded of AMIT, an institute for bio-medical development at Technion established five start-ups in various fields of medicine and held senior management positions at Comverse Technology (Nasdaq CNSI). Of particular interest is his service in the mythological 8200 SIGINT Unit of the Israeli Intelligence for 17 years: he was awarded the highest "Award for Israeli National Security" projects by the President of Israel. His focus - neuro-science, health and nutrition. His series of books he collectively titles YOUNGER THAN EVER now continues with Book 3 – RUNNING BACK IN TIME.

Dr. Gilkis is a role model for the ‘older generation’ – whenever that starts these days! While there are many self-help books about health and how to achieve and maintain it, few are is immersive as Dr. Gilkis’ refection on his own life challenges and the manner in which he is defying growing old. His approach to the incorporation of sports and physical activity into our living program is both inspiring and instructional and full of hopeful possibilities. Believing that physical and mental health are nurtured by constant physical activity may seem like a foregone conclusion, but as Dr. Gilkis presents his case the facts are there – in a most accessible manner.

The concept of running a marathon around age 70 is daunting – until reading Dr. Gilkis’ adventure. Subtitling his memoir ‘Discovering the formula to beat the aging process and get younger’ shares the message of this terrific book. The fact that he relates his ‘dream to reality’ in such a warmly conversational manner makes his wise secrets and formulas even more engaging. Sharing his memoir makes the concepts he presents more attractive: prevention of disease and of aging are the practical results of physical activity including the rewards we can receive in self-esteem and joy. To share the ideas of progressive physical activity as the guide to defy aging and to improve both mental and physical health is important, but in this book Dr. Gilkis offers step by step guidance on how to embrace his ideas and make them part of our living a life that is happier, healthier and ‘aging resistant’! Recommended.
