Podziwiam autora za sporą pracę, włożoną w zebranie wiadomości z tylu dziedzin życia, ale przede wszystkim, za umiejętność ich interpretacji. Chociaż ilość tabelek potrafi miejscami przytłaczać, to dane w nich zawarte są po prostu ciekawe, a dziennikarska przenikliwość i humor autora mnie rozbrajają.

Mam świadomość, że nie jestem w stanie zapamiętać tak ogromnej ilości informacji. To jedna z tych pozycji, które żeby docenić, trzeba mieć pod ręką. Jednak już samo czytanie celnych, uszczypliwych komentarzy autora daje mi ogromną frajdę. Bawię się przy tej książce wybornie!

Najbardziej podobał mi się rozdział o różnych rodzajach lodów i specyficznych przysmakach w różnych krajach (Japonia >>>). O mitologicznych aspektach wolę nie wspominać, mimo że były....interesujące. Kocham fragment o wojnie Australijczyków z emu i wojnie o dębowe wiadro XD Bardzo zabawna, chociaż momentami bardzo ciężko się czytało (gdyby nie to byłoby 4/5).

‘*‘ Meine Meinung ‘*‘
Als ich den Titel des Buches las, war meine Neugier sofort geweckt. Es ist faszinierend, welche Themen Elledge eingefallen sind. Nehmen wir nur mal die Frage, wie viele Länder es auf der Welt gibt. Da schwanken die Zahlen zwischen 193 (Mitglieder der Vereinten Nationen) über 211 (Regionen die Mitglied in der FIFA und teilnahmeberechtigt bei der WM sind) und 249 (Länder oder Regionen mit einem alphabethischen und numerischen Code der Internationalen Organisation für Normung ISO). Da wurde es dann ganz deutlich, wie schwierig scheinbar einfache Antworten sein können.
Ich gebe zu, die Themen „Welt der Natur“, „Fragen der Kommunikation“ und „Freizeit“ haben mich am meisten gereizt und ich las sie zuerst. Ich weiß jetzt jedenfalls, wer bei einem Duell zwischen Harry Potter und Spider-Man gewinnen würde. Aber sorry, das darf ich euch nicht verraten, sonst ... na, ihr wisst schon *grins
Vor allem die Punkte mit Kinofilmen fand ich total interessant. Denn es wurde auch auf die Inflation eingegangen und so konnten Filme auch über Jahrzehnte hinweg in finanziellen Punkten verglichen werden.
Das Buch bietet viel Skurriles und Interessantes und ich werde garantiert noch öfter in die Hand nehmen und mit dem hier erworbenen Wissen angeben.
Ach ja, es heißt ja immer, man soll die Übersetzer würdigen. Liebe Frau Dr. Susanne Kuhlmann-Krieg, „Fast & Furious“ ist keine Zeichentrickreihe (Zitat: ... gilt für „The Fast and the Furious“ und „Ice Age“. Die Welt liebt offensichtlich Zeichentrickfilme über Autos und Tiere.). Aber ansonsten ließ sich das Buch flüssig lesen und ich denke, der locker-leichte Schreibstil wurde super übersetzt.
Ein Buch, welches Jung und Alt begeistern und auch gemeinsam von Eltern und Kindern gelesen werden kann. Von mir gibt es 5 Enzyklopädie-Sterne.

Nie zna internetu ten, kto nigdy nie zagubił się w Wikipedii 😛 Zapewne zdarzyło Wam się kiedyś zabłądzić wyszukując jakiegoś hasła, a potem przejść do następnego, i do następnego, i do następnego… A jeśli tego nie zrobiliście to Wasza ciekawość świata jest na bardzo niskim poziomie 😛 Żartuję! Ale spróbujcie kiedyś – można utknąć jak podczas scrollowania instagrama 🙈

Jeśli natomiast jesteście ciekawi, ale sami nie wiecie w sumie czego to ta książka jest zdecydowanie dla Was! Dowiecie się co nieco o kosmosie, w tym krótkie odświeżenie wiedzy, którą możecie kojarzyć z fizyki. Potem podróż będzie w bliższym wymiarze, bo będziecie mieli kilka słów o naszej planecie m.in. odpowiedź na pytanie ile jest państw na świecie (to nie jest tak oczywiste jak może się wydawać!). Potem jeszcze rozwieją się wątpliwości odnośnie mierzenia, żeby płynnie przejść do historii i polityki. Oprócz tego czekają na Was ciekawostki ze świata natury, rozrywki i kilka słów o rzeczach, które nie pasowały nigdzie indziej. Jednym słowem 416 stron wypełnionych informacjami z otaczającej rzeczywistości!

Jonn Elledge zebrał w swojej książce „(Prawie) wszystko dla zabieganych” naprawdę wiele tematów, które mnie wciągnęły i nawet nie spodziewałam się, że tak bardzo! Cała lektura jest napisana w bardzo przystępny sposób, momentami zabawny, który sprawia, że czyta się ją niejednokrotnie szybciej niż nie jedną powieść. Jeśli jesteście głodni wiedzy i macie chęć na poznanie świata z wielu stron – śmiało! Sięgajcie i czytajcie, ta książka jest tego warta 😁

Ostatnio skuszony opisem oraz podobieństwem do dwóch książek, które kiedyś mi się spodobały, sięgnąłem po "(Prawie) wszystko dla zabieganych". Jest to, jak podaje opis, skarbnica wiedzy na przeróżne tematy, przy czym zaznaczone zostało, że jest to książka nerdowska, co po części jest prawdą.

Na tytuł ten składa się kilka części, każda z nich skupia się na innej dziedzinie, co jest zarówno wadą i zaletą. Zaletą, ponieważ większość osób znajdzie przynajmniej jeden temat dla siebie, który go zainteresuje. Z drugiej strony, jeśli ktoś chce przeczytać całość to może przy niektórych rozdziałach się nieco wynudzić. W moim przypadku, niestety tak było i to na początku. Czytanie o kosmosie było dla mnie dosyć ciężkie i obawiałem się, że nie dam rady przeczytać książki dalej, bo się zanudzę. Nie poddałem się jednak i dobrze zrobiłem. Kolejne części o wiele bardziej przypadły mi do gustu. Czas czy państwa były chyba najciekawszymi tematami poruszonymi w tym tytule. Rozrywka, kultura i sport również były przyjemne do czytania, choć spodziewałem się momentami trochę czegoś innego.

Ponadto, niektóre rzeczy poruszone w tej książce były dosyć oczywiste i czułem się dosłownie jakby autor przepisał Wikipedię. Przy innych natomiast widać, że bardzo zagłębił się w temat i przeanalizował zebrane dane, poprawiając nawet dosyć często powielane błędy. Było to fajne, ale ta nierówność czasem kłuła mnie w oczy.

Na początku wspomniałem o dwóch książkach, które wydawały mi się podobne do "(Prawie) wszystko dla zabieganych". Są to "Pi razy oko" oraz "Liczby nie kłamią" również od wydawnictwa Insignis, ale po lekturze muszę przyznać, że tamte pozycję chyba bardziej przypadły mi do gustu. Były one bardziej skupione na pewnych aspektach życia, a nie tak rozbite jak recenzowana pozycja.

Polecam jednak ten tytuł, bo na pewno znajdziecie w nim coś dla siebie. Za egzemplarz dziękuję wydawnictwu Insignis Media.

Liczyłam na książkę pełną ciekawostek (którymi zabłysnę w towarzystwie 😎), a tymczasem ciekawostki w tej książce to tabelka z najdłuższymi rzekami, czy największymi krajami. No niestety, powrót do szkoły. Styl pisania, z żarcikami w stylu starszego nauczyciela, który chce być fajny też jej nie ratował. W ostatnich 20% zrobiło się trochę ciekawiej, ale jednak nie na tyle, żeby ocenić ją lepiej.

It's amazing what we don't know – and in many cases – don't need to know. “The Compendium of (Not Quite) Everything: All The Facts You Didn't Know You Wanted To Know" is an interesting and fun book full of miscellaneous factoids that are interesting although not necessarily vital to know. Author Jonn Elledge must have had fun discovering such things as:

• We have focused on Covid, The Black Death is almost certainly the single deadliest disease in history. Between 1347 and 1351, it wiped out a third and a half of the population of Europe.

• Many 'dumb wars' have been fought, like The War of the Cow. A peasant in what is now Belgium steals a cow during a jousting tournament. Said peasant is offered the choice between returning the cow or being executed. Peasant, not unnaturally, opts to return the cow but is executed anyway. The peasant's lord demands recompense, gathers a posse, and destroys a castle. Rival lords respond by setting fire to some things. This continued for quite some time until 60 villages were destroyed, and an estimated 15,000 people died because somebody stole a cow.

• Things invented by women: Caller ID, call-waiting, windshield wiper, chemotherapy, Kevlar, and the game of Monopoly.

• Which languages have the most native speakers (in order)? Mandarin/Standard Chinese, Spanish and English.

• The longest-running cartoon series is not, in fact, The Simpsons, but another series about traditional family life. The Japanese anime Sazae-san22 concerns the family and friends of the 20-something Sazae Fuguta, whose parents had previously worried she might be too modern and unladylike to find a husband but who, thankfully for family honor, now lives with her parents, husband, and child. It's based on a newspaper strip that started in 1946 and still reflects the setting and social mores of its time.

• One of the more random long-running TV shows worldwide is Allsång på Skansen – 'Sing-along at Skansen' – in which celebrities perform Swedish songs while a live audience of thousands sings along. It's been broadcast every summer since 1979, but earlier incarnations of the show date as far back as 1935.

• Some of the oddest superstitions include: In Cuba, never declare a drink to be your last – 'el último' – or you will die soon, making the word 'last' more literal than you perhaps intended. In Denmark, avoid having private conversations with a cat in the room.

To niesamowite czego nie wiemy - a w wielu przypadkach - nie musimy wiedzieć. „Prawie wszystko dla zabieganych” to fakty o których nie wiemy, a prawdopodobnie chcieliśmy wiedzieć. To interesująca i zabawna książka pełna różnych ciekawostek i faktów. Autor musiał świetnie bawić się odkrywając rzeczy takie jak:

🌺Czarna Śmierć
🌺Ile „głupich wojen” stoczono jak np: wojna krów.
🌺Rzeczy wymyślone przez kobiety
🌺W jakich językach mówi się najwięcej?
🌺Jakie seriale są najdłużej emitowane?
🌺Dziwne i zaskakujące przesądy w różnych zakątkach świata.

Oraz wiele, wiele innych rzeczy, które gwarantują że czytelnik nie będzie się nudził! 🤍

Der Autor versucht auf unterhaltsame Weise, eine Menge Wissen an den Leser zu bringen.

So fängt er ganz von vorne an mit der Entstehungsgeschichte der Erde , gelangt darüber an Gottheiten und Galaxien.

Wir erfahren einiges über Kriege, Erfindungen, Länder und die Welt der Tiere aber auch vieles über Stars und Filme.

Ich hatte mir ein lockeres und witziges Buch mit unnützem Wissen erhofft, was wie ich fand das Cover und der Klappentext versprach.

Bekam aber gebündeltes und gut recherchiertes Wissen zu vielfältigen Themen. Trockener als erwartet aber gut als Nachschlagewerk geeignet.
Mit vielen Listen und Aufzählungen.

Does exactly what it sets out to do, very readably and with humour: "This is a book of... diversions into the cul-de-sacs of science and culture; apparently simple factual enquiries which lead swiftly into discussion of how we came to know things and why what we once thought right turned out to be wrong. My aim is to provoke the enjoyable feeling of getting lost in an online encyclopedia, sinking deeper into a warm bath of trivia as you click aimlessly from link to link".

This is a fascinating book written in a charming and warm manner that brings a great deal of humour and humanity to what could have been a very dry read. Put together in a logical way with the always wry footnotes constantly raising a smile I enjoyed this book very much and this will be one of the minority of books I retain on my bookshelves rather than recycle to a new home.

Masa ciekawostek z wielu różnych dziedzin - astronomia, historia, religie, geografia... Lekko i szybko się czyta. Oczywiście tematy nie są pogłębione, ale to dobry punkt wyjścia do samodzielnej eksploracji tematu dla zainteresowanych.
Sposób pisania jest... bardzo współczeny, potoczny, wręcz interenetowo-blogowy, co może niektórym przeszkadzać. To taka tiktokowa książka. Wiele krótkich ciekawostek ale (co ważne) ze źródłami!

Die kleine Enzyklopädie von (fast) allem von Jonn Elledge finde ich wirklich sehr gelungen aufgebaut. Witzig und doch informativ.
Ab sofort schlage ich immer etwas darin nach, wenn ich ein paar random Fakten brauche.
So das Jane Austen Zitat "Nichts als den Tod". Es hat mich gewundert, dass William Shakespeare nicht dabei ist, aber William Shatner. Star Wars und Star Trek teilen sich eine Seite.
Über Planeten, Tiere im Weltall und vielem mehr erhält man hier echt kurz und knappe Infos.

This is what Scott's Miscellany would have been if it had a sense of humour. It is a delightful book full of fascinating diversions, random lists and ideas, but somehow corralled into some kind of working structure and written in a way that has just enough character to act as an interesting guide, buy this for your local friendly nerd (except me I've already got a copy)

Book you could write yourself, just handful of weekends with Wikipedia at your fingertips. Just bunch of curiosities, facts and stats. No overreaching thought. Some wit in writing, couple of things I didn't know. Overall the biggest upside of this book is that I managed to read the whole thing quite quickly.

There are some very interesting tidbits within these pages. At first, the unpolished nature of the audiobook bothered me – it sounds like the author recorded it at home over a weekend – but in the end I came to appreciate the quirkiness.
