Kodi is a multimedia platform much like the Amazon Fire stick. But the Amazon Fire stick limits you in what you can actually play, because Amazon is really only interested in playing its own material rather than anyone else's. Additionally, Amazon doesn't exactly like the fact that you can find movies and TV shows online without needing to pay for them, so it obviously, doesn't really want to provide you with that access on their machine, because then they could be Siri. Kodi gets away with this because it is just a software application that allows you to install third-party plugins to handle things.
There's one more thing that makes Kodi very popular, and that is because it is GitHub-supported, which means that the community builder and the software is 100% free. The importance of this is that most of the bugs will be fixed relatively quickly, because someone will find a bug and then submit it to the forum, which will then usually take a few days until it's been fixed by someone else who wants to fix it. There are thousands of developers across the world, compared to the 100 you might find inside of the largest corporation in the world, which is why it is so important that this application is developed by a community of developers rather than a business of developers. The best part about this is that the features added to Kodi are often the features that you want in the application, versus what the company can add to a device or application, because the cost of making that feature is less than the profit that they would get from that feature.

I have been considering getting a Firestick, so had absolutely no clue about installing things on it. I wanted to learn more about it and thought this might be a good book to start with. I have read numerous books by Slavio and know that many of them have been great introductions. I have been using a similar service, but it has not been the most stable. I haven't had luck installing apps and it randomly freezes, resulting in me having to restart it again and again. On top of that, the apps I do have seem to be delayed (the voice and picture not syncing) and the shows I watch pause for no reason. The remote hasn't worked and it has been such a challenge to use. I REALLY need a new system and Firestick is my first choice. But I need to know how to install things, since that is a problem for me now.
I have some mixed feelings about this book. It is a short read, with only 44 pages, giving some good information about some things most people might not think about, but being a bit slow to get to the information on installing Kodi, which was my main reason for reading it. I appreciate the information he gives on installing add ons that allow you access to things you normally have to pay for and the legality of that. He explains things in laymen's terms, allowing even the newest user the opportunity to learn and understand. I do wish he would have included some diagrams, screenshots, or visuals. I am very visual learner and sometimes have trouble with written instructions if I don't have visual aides, so would appreciate having something to show me what I should be seeing or where to click.
Slavio pumps out a ton of books each month, and this is one of his shorter ones. I wasn't overly distracted by grammatical issues or mechanics errors, but I did feel it took awhile to get to the "how-to" part of the book. But I can say it was a quick and easy read with new information I didn't know before starting it.
Not a bad book for those looking for basic info on installing Kodi on Firestick. Good for the new user as it is not overly involved or detailed.
