I don't know why everyone is so against Chase. I really like him and think they belong together. Yes, he hid something from her but maybe it was for her safety or even his own. Steve always seemed kinda blah to me.
Update: DNF. I'm done with this shit. I knew it was coming but that doesn't make it any better. Chase is a lying, manipulative ass and I can't understand the appeal at all. I've seen rocks that are more attractive than him. And another thing: lying is not hot or mysterious and just because a guy comes crawling back like a pathetic roach doesn't mean he's worth your time. Honestly.
Before reading:
I swear to God, if Della goes back to Chase, I am going to seriously hurt someone.
I want Della to be with Chase (he keeps things from Della but Della keeps things from him.) I HATE Steve what kind of guy leaves her like that and won't answer the phone. I do hope Kylie and Lucas are in this book and Miranda gets her happy ending!! I like Love triangles but this story doesn't seem like a love triangle b/c Steve left the story. If he comes back he sure dose NOT deserve her.
I'm very happy with who she ended up with too (But I won't tell) ;)
update: It was nothing short of fantastic. Beautiful and I wish she keeps writing books like this.
*I'm rerating a lot of the books I read in the past to fit my current taste. Most of the time it's downrating books that I thought I really liked at the time but there are a few exceptions. :) And it'd be too much to try to reflect these changes on my blog, so the ratings will remain as the original ones on Xingsings.
4.5 Stars, Completed October 7, 2015
It’s been almost a year since I’ve last read and reviewed the previous books in this trilogy. Even though Unspoken is fresh in my mind after having just read it, the other two weren’t. When I went back to read my reviews for them, I couldn’t help but cringe-and smile. Reborn was one of my first reviews on this blog and was one I was proud of publishing but, now after reading it nearly a year later, I’ve found so many flaws. Looking back on that one and having the chance to compose this one, I feel like I’ve grown as a reviewer since then. And I feel the same way about this series. Della sure has grown as a character and this trilogy has evolved into something I have really loved following. I’m certainly going to miss Shadow Falls now that it’s come to an end. In a way, because my journey with this trilogy and blogging was around the same time, it’s going to remain dear to my heart-as cheesy as that sounds.
Unspoken is the third and final installment to the Shadow Falls: After Dark spinoff series and takes place after book two, Eternal. By the end of Eternal, Della is finally adapting to her new powers as a reborn vampire. Right when she also begins to come to terms with having Chase as her bondmate, she learns that he’s been lying to her all along about knowing her uncle. Even worse, after digging up her aunt and uncle’s files, a murder case surfaces and her father is convicted for her aunt’s death twenty years ago. Feeling betrayed, Della wants nothing to do with Chase, but now that he’s become an official FRU agent and she’s an elite paranormal investigator in training, it looks like she can’t avoid having to work together to prove her father’s innocence. With solving this case, Della and Chase are going to have to explore the darkest parts of town. Della, fearless as she always is, isn’t too afraid of the challenge, instead she fears the deepest emotions in her heart. She worries about the bond they share and is even more scared of letting Chase near her heart and falling in love.
Before I get into the review, I wanted to say that I highly recommend reading Spellbinder, the novella in between Eternal and Unspoken, because the story will go much more smoothly for readers that do. In that short story set in Paris, a lot of events happen between Miranda , Perry, and Shawn. The references with her arc of the story may be a bit tedious in Unspoken to follow without reading that short filler. Della, Steve, and Chase also make some short appearances in that as well.
Anyway, Unspoken is probably one of the most well done finales I’ve ever read. All the elements were there. There’s not much of a cliffhanger and readers get the full closure they’ve been waiting for.
Old elements that made me love this series was still present. Della’s wit and spunky attitude were omnipresent throughout. Della’s narrative never fails to amuse me. So I was pretty surprised when this was actually written in a dual perspective when the other two previous installments were not.
Which brings me along to how it became pretty evident and predictable who Della was going to end up with, because, of course, the male perspective was going to be the chosen one. However it should have been obvious for most readers even before this book. As this series progressed the love triangle kind of just… died off. And I, elatedly, found it nonexistent in this installment. For readers that really loved the love triangle I can see this being a potential disappointment. But there were so many swoon worthy scenes if you were rooting for the right pair, which I was.
If you’ve read my other reviews on this series, you’d probably know I’m one of the few readers that loved this trilogy a lot more than the original Shadow Falls. Kylie was pretty boy crazy and I didn’t really like how her character was one of the ya paranormal Mary Sues, where she was normal but then discovered she had special powers no one else had and every boy found her irresistible. The love triangle drove me bonkers and the plot didn’t interest me as much. However, this spinoff series was so intriguing because, though the romance alone was pretty awesome to witness, I really loved the subplot with Della aiming towards her dreams of becoming an FRU agent. Empowering roles like that are my divide between characters I like and love.
With that being said, the subplots of the previous two installments in this trilogy were compelling and Unspoken was no exception. In fact, it was so gripping I finished it in two sittings. However, I have to say the murder case in this one was a bit more random to me. There was some connections since Della actually knew the family but I wasn’t as drawn to wanting to discover who the culprits were as I was for the last book with Natasha/Liam and the underground slave trade.
Like I’ve expressed in previous reviews of Hunter’s books, her writing voice is simply hilarious. The humor in the dialogue is always so belly laugh worthy. And the the characters (well aside from the widely adored Kylie) has always been the best part. Books that have camps have always been my weakness though. Readers can connect and get attached so easily with them. Also, most of the cast at Shadow Falls are quintessential teenagers. Hunter does an incredible job with creating bonds that realistically reflect real friendships. The girls’ roundtable coke sessions will be one of the many features I’ll miss from Shadow Falls.
However, this also brings me onto the one disappointing thing that made this book feel a little off for me: a lot of the old cast is not in this book. Derek and Jenny don’t even make any appearances. Honestly, even Kylie and Miranda seldom appeared and when they did it was always the usual roundtable coke session scene. Though those deep girl talk moments are this series' trademark, I was a bit sad that this book wasn’t able to highlight the importance of friendships and the fun idea of “girls rule” more, which were concepts Hunter is so well known to be good at. Instead this book focused a lot more on Della and Chase’s relationship, her father’s case, and the mystery of the Chis family murder. Although these plots made this book busy enough, I was still a little disappointed that this finale fell a little flat by something Hunter did so well in all the rest of her books, but Unspoken was still a wonderful end to a series nonetheless.
By my last page flip, I knew I was pretty content. (That ending scene, sigh.) Honestly, maybe it was wrapped up too neatly, but you know what? After all the trauma Della has gone through in the series, I think a somewhat happily ever after ending is appropriate. I know this is going to remain one of my all time favorite young adult vampire series for a really long time. After reading this satisfying finale, I know readers are going to miss Shadow Falls as much as I will. And I know, no doubt, Unspoken will meet the expectations of all Della fans out there.
Special thanks to St. Martin’s Griffin for giving me the opportunity to read and review Unspoken. In no way did this affect my reading experience or honest review.
I won and ARC of this book through Goodreads Giveaway in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fantastic conclusion to this amazing series! C.C. Hunter has always blown me away with her writing. She always manages to capture the right amount of humor, action, and romance in all of her books, and it makes for such an enjoyable read. This book has it all: drama (it knows no bounds in this one), pure craziness (come on, it's Della we're talking about here), suspense, and laugh-out-loud moments. Suffice to say, this was the perfect way to end the series, and I think Unspoken will please all fans.
Della has always been such an interesting character to me. In the original Shadow Falls series, she was a bit of an enigma. We never got a truly good grasp on her. That was why I was so happy to have an entire series about her. I felt throughout the course of this series we got to see a side to Della that most people didn't see. We were able to understand her much better. Regardless, she has grown leaps and bounds from when we first met her, but she is still Della through and through. I love her spunk, her feisty nature, and her sarcasm. She is a tough girl on the outside, but vulnerable on the inside. Della has a lot going on in her life, and all our questions (and hers as well) are answered in this novel...especially in regards to her father's behavior towards her. There were some scenes that broke my heart, and all I wanted to do was give Della a hug. Della is such a relatable character, and I loved how C.C. Hunter portrayed that in the books.
While I have never been a fan of love triangles, the one between Della, Steve, and Chase is definitely an interesting one for sure. There is plenty of drama, and it makes for a good read. There were a couple times that I wished Della would just admit what she was feeling and be with who she truly wanted to be with (not giving away any spoilers!!), but I did like how Della reasoned everything out. She realized what she felt toward Steve and Chase respectively, and acted on that. I felt Della went about it very intelligently, and it showed just how much she has grown. Matters of the heart are definitely not something that are to be rushed in to, and Della did take her time with her decision. But when she does make her decision, it's makes for a really sweet and cute moment at the end of the book.
Overall, this was a great way to end the series. There was a lot of action and plenty of twists and turns. C.C. Hunter resolved the story of her aunt's murder very well, and I liked the turn the story took. The story is a little darker, as it delves more into the gang world, but it makes for a great read! This is a must read for all Shadow Falls fans, and not to be missed!
Della has grown into her new Reborn powers much more so than in the previous two novels but must put them to use all too soon. Her father is being charged with his sister's murder. Della knows her father isn't capable of murder but it's difficult to concentrate on clearing his name when her aunt's ghost keeps insisting he killed her. It's even harder to concentrate with a sexy vampire and a hot shape-shifter vying for her affections.
I had such mixed feelings when I finished this book. I was flying high because of the sheer joy of reading this last installment while at the same time near tears because I knew it was the final chapter of Della's story. And what a thrilling roller-coaster it was. There were more secrets, more ghosts, and more twists than I had prepared for. The action never faltered so putting this one down was impossible. And oh that love triangle. Did she pick Chase? Steve? Or did she, in true Della-fashion, tell them both to go screw themselves? I'll never tell!
To this day I am amazed at how addicted I have become to Shadow Falls and all its inhabitants - the kind of addiction that, until these books came along, had only been triggered by one other author (Tamora Pierce). I can literally read these books over and over again (which I do at least once a year) and still be just as engrossed as I was the first time. If readers have a say, this one votes for another Shadow Falls series!
I definitely liked Della's trilogy more than Kylie's story. Della was less annoying and also more active. As in: she actually investigated. So her journey was definitely amazing. I loved that we got a multiple POV (Edit: I didn't really like how the two POVs just jumped around. You were invested in a scene and then BAM, different scene. And a lot was left to imagine for the reader, like Chase's fight at the prison. But the boring love triangle scenes were fully developed. Just great). Chase was a really interesting character, so I loved to read in his POV. But unfortunately, after not being such an asshole in book 2 than in book 1, he kinda was an asshole in this again. I'm not really fond of love interests who keep teasing the MC, despite her saying she doesn't want it. But in the end Chase respected her descision, so I wasn't too bothered when Della chose to forgive him. Also I loved how prominent Burnett was, he's one of my favorite characters. But he was a dick too, sometimes. But always got called out on it. The case was a little chaotic. I was confused several times. And I don't know if I missed something, but who killed the Chi's? Stone, too? And why? (If anybody got that please feel free to comment).
And now to the point why it's only 3.5 stars. The love triangle. The first book lost only 0.5 stars for that, but it was heavier in books 2 and 3. And what bothers me most is, that it follows the EXACT same pattern as Kylie's love triangle. I actually like that you can't tell who Kylie and Della will be choosing in the first book(s). But while I only knew in book 4 for Kylie, I guessed at the beginning of book 2 for Della. 1. Girl meets nice guy and guy that is kind of creepy/a little bit of an asshole/mysterious 2. Girl begins relashionship with the nice guy while being torn over the other guy. 3. Girl realises she likes guy 2 more, as he begins to be less of an asshole/less creepy. But he's still possessive as hell. 4. Guy 2 hurts her pretty badly and she can't forgive him, while everyone tells her to. But you, as the reader just think: For god's sake, don't forgive him. 5. Nice guy conveniently falls out of love with the girl. 6. After the plot is done the girl forgives Guy 2. You can put those 6 points over both series and they fit. So no surprises from the already unberable love story. But to be fair, I think Chase actually deserved to be forgiven. Lucas did not. And it seems that those points won't fit Miranda's love triangle. But I'm still bitter, that she's going to have one. Also, why would you spoil her short story? That was completely unnessecary.
I'm writing this review wit a crying and laughing eye, how you would say it in Germany. Unspoken was definitely the best book in the After Dark series, the most emotional, exciting, saddest and surprising one.
First of all, I repeat myself : I love Della. She is so so tough and fights for her dreams, although she is a broken hearted girl inside. However, thanks to the bonds in her life, she stands up and thought - no matter that others said. One of these precious bonds is the one with Burnett. Kylie has Holiday, Della has Burnett. I just loved their funny interactions with each other and how much Burnett supported and protected Della. Even if it meant to breake rules.
I even felt that Della's story was a tick better than Kylie's. Her family drama was really really heart-breaking and the ghosts were .... uff, I got some cold shivers while reading.
As for the lovestory. I read some other reviews and know that many many readers hate Chase. The lying guy, the typical badboy. Well, this book is partly written in Chase pov and thanks to that I could understand him more. Yes, he is a typical badboy, a typical guy, but he loves Della. To my mind, he changed a lot from Reborn up to Unspoken. Thus, they fit each other perfectly, both stubborn :D
The only thing that actually annoyed me was the conclusion. The showdown of this book. Just like "Chosen at Nightfall (SF #5)" the conclusion was just too fast. It was even shorter! You know, I was waiting and waiting for the final showdown, it came, it was exciting and terryfing, but uff, ends.
Nevertheless, I did enjoy Unspoken a lot! I just have go give 5 stars
I loved all the previous Shadow Falls books, and it makes me so sad that I didn't feel the same way about Unspoken. Sure, I loved the story, and I adore most of the characters, but I just can't stand the love interest. Seriously, why does Hunter keep on doing this? No, it's not sexy to be crazy jealous and acting like a little bitch, . No, it's not sexy for you to constantly only be thinking about sex and how to get it on. No, it's not sexy to try and force Della's mind before she's ready. No, just no.. I'm actually beginning to doubt if I ever want to read a book by Hunter again, and the whole thing just kind of breaks my heart. Especially, especially since this has always been amongst my absolute favorites..
what a fantastic ending!! I love this series so much!! I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, so just know that I love it and that I highly recommend it!
-------------- c.c hunter, I love you and can't wait to keep reading your books.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a really easy read that got me out of my reading slump. I actually like the After Dark series more than the original and just could not put this book down. Though I did kind of feel like scenes here and there cut out when they switched POV and that it did not flow as well as some of the other books.
A perfect end to a fantastic series, UNSPOKEN delivers two exciting and danger-filled mysteries, a tumultuous love story, a caustic but lovable heroine, a charming and swoon-worthy if not entirely trustworthy male protagonist, an overprotective but heroic father figure, a couple of persistent ghosts, several beloved characters, humorous dialogue, great writing, and an emotional roller coaster ride or a few. It promises to be wildly entertaining, completely captivating, more than a little bit nerve-wracking, unputdownable. And it ties up all loose ends that pertain to Della, her family, her love interests, and the crimes she’s dead set on solving by the story’s end.
Della Tsang never meant for her father to become the prime suspect in the much too personal case she reopened and has yet to solve. But if she can’t find a way to prove his innocence - because he has to be innocent, right? - she’s not sure how she’ll be able to live with the guilt of being responsible for his incarceration and for destroying her family even more than she already has.
With an irate ghost absolutely certain he’s to blame, evidence mounting against him, and time running out, she won’t be able to clear his name on her own. Not without the help of Burnett and the FRU. And not without Chase Tallman, the vampire who she hoped to never see again, who broke her heart and her trust, who claims to have information that could lead to the killer and exonerate her father.
As long as she can ignore their bond and the feelings she may or may not still have for him, she’ll be okay. She has to be. Because with her father all but having given up on his own defense, she’s the only one left capable of fighting for him.
C.C. Hunter does a marvelous job re-immersing readers into the Shadow Falls world and re-connecting them with her story and characters. In the first few pages she will make them laugh, tug at their heartstrings, and ensnare them with a new mystery for Della to investigate.
She allows them to see even more of what’s going on by telling the story from both Della’s and Chase’s point of view. With Della, she gives them a stubborn and determined and headstrong character who is also funny and vulnerable and eager to make things right. With Chase, she reveals someone who is remorseful, desperate for forgiveness but anxious that it won’t ever happen, and who wants to be the vampire that Della needs him to be.
The result is a story that is immediately engaging, positively delightful, edge-of-your-seat suspenseful, laugh-out-loud hilarious, and utterly riveting.
UNSPOKEN is a must for fans of this series, for readers who love their heroines with a bit of an attitude, a touch of snark, the ability to kick some a**, and who guard their heart, for those who enjoy a not-so-easy to solve mystery, for those who love their romances stormy, sizzling, and not instantly decided, and for those readers that insist upon a well-rounded cast of characters, a well-developed world, and truly wonderful writing.

Actual Rating: 4.5 Stars
MY THOUGHTS Ever since I picked up Born at Midnight four years ago, I've loved every one of these Shadow Falls books, so I was ecstatic to receive this book for review! I really enjoyed this last installment of Della's series!
Della's currently in what you would call a situation. Her father is going to go on trial for murdering his sister, a murder in which he didn't commit. Her father has also been border-line cruel with Della ever since she's become a vampire and she's convinced that he believes her a monster. Della has to track down her uncle, who may or may not have been who killed the sister. To top it all off, there are people being gruesomely murdered, she has a few ghosts hanging around her, and she's still bonded to Chase.
Make makes this book so different from the others is that we don't just follow Della, but Chase as well. I love Della. She's a fantastic MC and a badass. Yes, she can kick butt, but she has a strong attitude, won't take crap from anybody, and speaks her mind. I like Chase as well. I don't like how he he keeps lying to Della, but he the kind of guy who won't take crap from Della if that makes any sense. I gave this book 4.5 stars. The only reason why I couldn't give this book a 5 is because while I like Chase as a person, his point-of-view bothered me. He was sometimes borderline obsessive other Della and it kind of creeped me out at times. Other than that, it was fine.
I oddly like how the plot of these books have a merging of mystery and paranormal. Obviously, the paranormal is strong in this series, but I felt like the mystery aspect really came into this one. I don't even know where to start with this because SO MUCH HAPPENED! This was not a finale that lacked action or plot! The characters have to delve deeply to find out who is behind the sister's murder and the murders around town, as well as numerous other things they have to deal with in their lives. I thought it was fantastic how it was all dealt with and how things were able to wrap up!
As for romance, there wasn't a whole lot of actual romance in this book. There was mostly some angst throughout the book, especially from Della, but the major mystery plot took the wheel, which I am quite glad about. Don't worry, guys, there are some scenes!
IN CONCLUSION Overall, I loved this book (and I loved this series)! Other than some issues with Chase's POV, this book was incredibly riveting and action-packed! I loved reading this series from Della's perspective and now it's like when Kylie's story came to an end, but I'm excited to read Miranda's story!
This book wasn't fun at all. All the shadow falls books have been fun, this one was just depressing, which was mostly due to our narrator and her never ending self-hatred. Also the scenes were split between Chase and Della (if you didn't already know who she would choose, the POV's really give it away) and they just cut out in the middle of conversations and it would go back in forth for literally the entire book. I don't know if there was a full scene in here. And the entire book was the SAME EXACT THING. Leads upon leads of "Douglas Stone" and/or the crimes committed by him/his companions. So Della wants to be a badass FRU agent but she is seriously so squeamish and pathetic that I'm just not sure this is the right career path for her. I'm not sure what happened to Chase but in this book he was a total girl who couldn't go a page without Della. And Della, as she always does, is pushing Chase away. Seriously she needed to get over her issues in book one. She only had 1 boyfriend hurt her (and all he did was break up with her, by the way) and that was forever ago. She needed to grow up. At one point, Chase has a bad day and mildly snaps at Della and not 2 seconds after this happen: "I knew it. He doesn't really care about me. He made me believe he loved me. How could he hurt me like this" what a drama queen. And in the very last chapter, Della realizes she's been ridiculous and he parents forgive her and she suddenly decides that she's a rainbow. Instead of making her gradually more trusting, not that she had a reason to have trust issues, C.C. Hunter made her suddenly not have trust issues in the last chapter.
I'm expecting the next book to have a 16 year time jump and be about Burnett and Holiday's daughter Hannah.
I was annoyed with the start of this one. Della was once again not listening to things, but jumping to conclusions, which lead to issues later. Like any teen thinks she knows all, when she didn't know crap. I liked that Burrnet tried to reign in Della by pointing out her mistakes in a good way.
The way that Della treated Chase annoyed me as well. She knows how he feels about her, has even admitted to herself that she loves him, yet time and time again she yells at him and pushes him away.
I did like how things were resolved with Della's family, even though at one point I was ready to shoot her father, he stepped up in the end.
another perfect ending to an amazing novel! I have loved the shadow falls series for a long time and when I found out there was a spin off series I was overjoyed. while it was a trilogy, I feel that the pacing was wonderful, which is true for this book. there was so much to be concluded and tied together and it was all resolved by the end, even if I was worried near the last few pages about some things not happening the way I wanted them too. this book was absolutely phenomenal and I'm always reminded of c c hunters unique writing style when I read one of her books. highly recommend shadow falls and shadow falls: after dark to anyone looking for a new fun urban fantasy!
4.5 stars! A great conclusion for this series! Very close to 5 stars but the original Shadow Falls series is just slightly better to me and I think since I read it first, it holds a bigger place in my heart because it was one of the first series to get me into reading <3

More of 4.5 stars... I've been wanting to read this book for ages! But with the publication date so close to my exams, I hadn't been able to... But I did it anyways! This book was way above my expectations, it had the perfect amount of humor, mystery and action to balance it out!!
Della Della is the MC of this series and a very good one at it! She is headstrong and determined to get her dad off a murder that he's accused of. The only lead she has in the beginning of the book is Chase, who also happens to be the love interest. She, in my opinion, didn't deal very well with the whole Chase problem, but I guess it worked out in the end... Likes: 1) I liked the fact that Della was fighting for her family and would continue to do so no matter what! 2) I liked that she didn't wait around for her Prince Charming and took matters into her own hands. 3) She totally was against "male chauvinist pigs" (her words, not mine) and that is something every female MC should be against! The guys just always treat the MC as though she's a fragile glass thing! Some of them MC's could kill half a soccer team in five minutes! 4) She's totally kick-ass! For example: “Sorry,” Della said, sneering down at the man. “I think I’m allergic to perverts. I get involuntary knee jerks whenever one is around.” 5) Shes sassy as hell! “You’re not going to say anything?” he asked. “About?” “My suit?” “It fits you,” she said.” 6) She's brave and absolutely not afraid to go into a bad situation! 7) She asked very good questions. Like: “...who needed a heart? The dang organ just caused problems.”
Dislikes: 1) she suspected too much. 2) Sha had trust issues. 3) She felt too much like a victim, but I guess I can't blame her... She went through a lot! And yeah... That's it...
Chase O god I loved him!! We got to see many parts in his POV and I loved those! He is such an amazing being (can't exactly say human, considering he's a vamp...)!! And so cute!
Likes: 1) He's adorable! “Here.” Della held out the baby. Chase took a step back. “I don’t know how to hold it.” “It?” Della and Holiday said at the same time. “I mean her.” 2) He also happens to be very adorable! “Please, don’t start pretending to be a gentleman just because you’re wearing a suit.” (Della) “When have I not been a gentleman?” (Chase) Need I continue?
Dislikes: 1) he's too over-protective of Della. Which means he's also a "male chauvinist pig". The end.
Burnett He's so adorable! He's the original male chauvinist pig, and he's very very very protective of Della. He's like her substitute father while her actual dad is being horrible to her! A few quotes with him: “He laughed. “You’ve got the memory of an elephant.” He walked in. “And you have the manners of a baboon,” she countered. “The zoo’s this way,” Burnett’s voice spoke from Holiday’s office. And “I’m asking for one more chance,” Chase said. “Let me earn your respect. I’ll do whatever it takes.” Burnett’s expression lost some heat. He looked at his wife. She nodded. Her husband exhaled, looked back at his daughter and frowned, then glanced back at Chase. “Anything?” “Anything,” Chase said. “Do you know how to change a poopy diaper?”
So yeah... Basically that's what the books about. I'm really bad at ending reviews... Huh.. So... Like.. Bye!!
Shadow Falls After Dark – Im Sternenlicht 2. Shadow Falls After Dark – Unter dem Nachthimmel 3. Shadow Falls After Dark – Im Dunkel der Nacht
Interesting ending to Della's trilogy. I struggled alot with parts of this book. But others were so intriguing and fun that I never even considering putting this down. So let's chat about what I liked and didn't.
Things I loved - The development of Della's family and her relationship with them. Don't get me wrong, they weren't all happy developments. But they were well written and not sloppily thrown together. I loved seeing how these relationships shaped and affected Della. And it was just so intriguing. - The development of Burnet and Della's relationship. Burnet is like a surrogate father to Della during a time when her own is being a poo poo head. I loved that we aren’t just told that her and Burnet are close. We actively see him protecting her yet learning to let her make her own decisions. We see her interactions with his wife and child. And honestly it just made me tear up and yell “Hug already!” - Della’s growth as a person. Learning to open her self up to all sorts of feelings and life experiences. It was a pleasure to see this young woman really develop and learn how to deal.
Things that bothered me - I’ve already discussed in my review of Reborn how I felt like the love triangle was unnecessary. Hunter pulled a Maas and switched our affections from thinking Steve was dreamy to thinking he was boring and I didn’t care for it. But regardless of that… I’m sorry but I take big issue with Chase as a love interest. He is problematic at BEST. All the worst qualities of an alpha male. He told her who to see and talk to. Got mad when she wouldn’t immediately forgive him even though he was “trying so hard.” He continuously told her that she would succumb to “this bond” even though Della was struggling with whether the bond was dictating their relationship. He also point blank told Steve that if Della chose Steve he wouldn’t “never stop trying to get her.” She is not YOURS!!!! I’m sorry but this pisses me off that Hunter sold Chase as a viable love interest. Della should have chosen herself and ended up alone but happy with herself. - The similarities to Kylie’s story in the spirit aspect was just too much. Get a new plot line already! - The easy way Della forgave her father. I know I know! I loved seeing them be close again at the end too. But it felt too easy. Della didn’t even struggle over her feelings and emotions. She was just like “It’s okay. Let’s play chess.” Overall I would still recommend this series to someone who loves Shadowfalls and these characters. But know going in that Chase is problematic and not the romantic role model we need in our lives.

*My Thoughts*
Unspoken is the final novel in the Shadow Falls: After Dark trilogy. This trilogy features 17-year old vampire Della Tsang, the best friend of Kylie Galen, and Miranda Kane. It has been a very long 9 months for Della. First, she finds out that she carries the gene that transformed her into a vampire. Next, she found herself at Shadow Falls, a sort of boarding school for vampires, fae, witches, shape-shifters, and werewolves instead of joining a gang like her cousin did. To make matters even more intriguing, Della is also a carrier of the REBORN gene that gives vampire super-speed, strength, and enhanced senses. But, she needed to almost die, and be brought back to life in order to find that fun fact out!
