A funny and spicy brother’s best friend hockey romance about falling in love with the right person at the wrong time.

Alice and Jordan are meant to be. Everyone knows it. Everyone except for Alice and Jordan, that is. After years of secretly pining after one another, a winter storm is just the catalyst needed to bring them together. And yet, their relationship is a short-lived one, as Jordan gets traded to another team across the country, leaving a heartbroken Alice behind.

After a career ending injury and a gruesome recovery, Jordan returns to Grand Marquee as an assistant coach for the Manticores, and finds himself living across the hall from Alice. It would be perfect if only for the fact that she wants nothing to do with him. She would much rather focus on her career and use her free time to hone her craft as a romance writer.

Is it just a temporary set back, or is it a Delay of Game?

Delay of Game is the third book in the Grand Marquee Manticores series of interconnected standalones.

I have mixed emotions about this book. I enjoyed the story, but goodness the miscommunication trope had me fuming. So many times I just wanted to throw the kindle and scream at the characters because of it. But I also loved the characters so I pushed through.

Alice was a middle school teacher who loved all things books and her family. She was also an aspiring romance author. She was so sweet and patient, but also could be stubborn when it was called for.

Jordan…I loved and hated him. His back and forth plus disappearing had me angry with him. He dealt with anxiety and mental health issues and that is what made me feel for him. Doesn’t mean it gave him any excuse for his behaviors though. He was a hockey player, it was his life. So when it was taken from him, things got dark for a bit.

Alice and Jordan had a friendship that was strong. They knew they could count on one another. But deep down they also had a crush on each other. Jordan would let her in, disappear or push her away, come back, and did it again. It was so hard reading how Alice had her heart ripped out, but she was so strong. I love the found family dynamic of this book. At the end, they all had each other’s backs no matter what.

First, a big thank you to Grey’s Promotions and Stef C.R. for the opportunity to read and review an ARC of Delay of Game. I didn’t realize this was part of an existing series when I started, so I was a bit apprehensive but to my surprise, it worked really well as a standalone!

I was on the hunt for a hockey romance, and this one definitely scratched the itch. I loved the way Jordan and Alice met and how their story unfolded over the years. There were definite sparks from the very beginning. Their personalities complemented each other in such a great way. Alice’s warmth and strength really balanced Jordan’s quieter, more introspective side.

That said, I would’ve liked a bit more insight into Jordan’s anxiety (where it stemmed from and how it shaped his fears and emotional walls). A little more clarity here could’ve deepened his character and helped readers better understand his journey.

One of the most refreshing aspects of this book was the beautiful dynamic between Alice, her family, and their close-knit traditions. Those moments were truly heartwarming and added depth to the emotional side of the story.

Why four stars and not five? As much as I enjoyed it, I was hoping for a bit more hockey. While the romance was front and center (and definitely spicy in all the right ways), I missed the on-ice action. Also, the push-and-pull between Alice and Jordan dragged a little at times. Just when you think things are about to settle, bam! something else happens (a tad dramatic, but you get the point 😅).

Still, I definitely recommend this book. It's a fun, quick read with heartfelt moments, strong characters, and yes, the spicy scenes were spicing!

ARC review! 4.5 stars!

I’m glad I read the first two books of this series before starting this one but it is not necessary- it works well as a standalone!

I loved Alice and Jordan and seeing how they met and how their relationship evolved over the years. The trials they went through both individually and together were a good way to remind us that everyone is human and we all have issues but it’s the way we work through them and come out the other side that will determine the path we take forward.

Jordan’s anxiety I wish had been explained a little more in terms of how everything started and how it was able to affect certain aspects of the story but it was definitely relatable at points of the story. I wish the bigger gap was explained a little more as well as it seemed like there was a big time jump with no explanation.

Overall I really enjoyed their story and this series as a whole! Thank you to Grey’s Promotions and the author for the advanced copy!

I received this as an ARC and I loved it so much! The tension between Jordan and Alice was to another level. There were sparks between the two from the instant they met. I loved that we got to see both characters stories and see their growth over the years. Although this is a hockey romance, the plot isn’t centered on hockey. One of my favorite things about this book was how close Alice was with her family and friends. Overall this was a great book and I would highly recommend for readers that love second chance romances and hockey romance.

One of my favorite tropes is brother's best friend or teammates sister, so I knew that I was going to adore this book. This is book #3 of the AHL Manticores series and I have loved each book. The characters from the first two books do make appearances in this book and I love when books can be read as stand-alones but are still very interconnected.

Alice and Jordon have known each other for years, since Alice was a teenager. They were always friends but over time their feelings changed into something more. Though they never acted on it because they didn't want to change the dynamics of their family and friends group. At one point they did try to be together but fear and miscommunication tore them apart not once but twice. It was several years after the start of the story before they finally got together and to their surprise all their friends and family knew they were meant to be.
Life and love always throws you challenges but how you responds defines not only yourself but other's perceptions of you. Jordan's anxiety and low self worth often allowed his fear to play havoc and create unnecessary chaos. He tended to try to handle everything himself not wanting to burden anyone. He hates asking for help, whether its because he has asked in the past and was disappointed or because he doesn't feel worthy of help. Jordan's response to change is often to run from those who care about him. This hurts those who love and care for him unconditionally.

Alice has known who she wanted from the beginning with a crush turning into more. She tried to be subtle but her friends knew with whom her heart beat for. Over the years of friendship she fell harder and put her trust in Jordan. Her faith in him faltered when he ran and again when he broke his promise. He seemed to cut her out of his life with precision even though she didn't know why. This hurt her and she tried to move on.

After Jordan moved home he knew he needed to make amends and regain what he lost, even though he had pushed all those who loved him away when he moved. He made mistakes and continued to make them by keeping secrets. Secrets have a way of coming out and often keeping the secret in the first place is more damaging than the truth but hindsight is always 20/20. Once the truth is revealed Jordan and Alice are able to mend their relationship and be together.

I loved this book but the reason for the four stars instead of five are for two reasons. 1)Too much build up and not enough of the HEA and 2) I would have liked to know more about why Jordan's anxiety was so bad.

One little spoiler, Stef you are going to have to bring Cherry potato chips to sports romance con because I have never heard of them before reading this book and now I want to try them.

I received an ARC of this book and I thank Stef and Grey's Promotions for the opportunity.

wooow wow wow! I’m obsessed my goodness. Def one of my favorites in the series! Delay of Game is a second chance romance where we follow our FMC Alice as she tries to navigate ever growing feelings for her brothers new teammate while also trying to write her first ever novel and our MMC Jordan as he struggles to feel at home after complex changes that have made his feelings for his best friends sister stronger but even more tense. We follow through their eyes, in both past and present as they come together, break apart, heal and fall in love all over again.

Where do I start. Wow these characters. I’m absolutely in love with Jordan and Alice. They deserve the absolute world and have my heart. Watching them come together and confess their feelings all over again after such a long time apart was perfect. The yearning and tension between these two goodness. I loved Jordan. Such a complex but deeply relatable character. He loves hard and struggles deep. Watching him find himself again and heal was so inspiring. Alice was such an amazing character as well. The way she cared so deeply and held herself was so special. She has an absolute heart of gold. These two together were the perfect whirlwind of love, and support. Like my goodness, the bookstore trips, the photo shoot, the release party! I just kept falling deeper and deeper in love with each of them. I absolutely loved watching their journey both their love and healing journeys.

And she does it again!! Stef has absolutely done it again. I absolutely loved the writing in this book. Having the past and then the present timelines were so smart because you were right beside them on their journey as they go through their ups and downs. It was so incredibly easy to fall in love with these characters and so easy to hooked on this book. It was also such an amazing way to write the second chance. You watch them come together for the first time and you can’t help but root and support them the second time around. The way all the characters through out this series was written was so perfect and each one of them were so unique. Watching this group of friends become family to one another throughout this series was honestly amazing. I love Stef and her incredible writing!

Overall, this was such an incredible book and an amazing series! I knew I would fall in the love the second I read ‘Its a Set Up’ and now we’ve made it to the end of this incredible series. I would like to thank Stef C.R. and Greys Promotions for the ARC and I can’t wait to see what is in store in the future for Stef! 📖🏒📷

Stef CR never fails to write wonderful, heartwarming romances between her two MCs. The third book in her Grand Marquee Manticores, Delay of Game, brings hockey, mutual pining, and opposites attract all together in this wonderful romance. Even as part of a series, this can easily be read as a standalone, but Stef is definitely an author that makes reading every book she writes worth reading.

Alice and Jordan have been dancing around each other for years. You know the friends that you watch interact and everyone knows they are meant to be more? This is Alice and Jordan. Everyone can see how perfect they are for each other but them. Alice is best friends with Jordan’s sister and when they meet, sparks fly. Yet neither one wants to admit or act on said feelings. Their interactions are full of witty banter, flirtatious quips, and tension. I absolutely loved reading them interact.

Alice is strong and grounded. She has an amazing family, strong traditions, and you can tell the love flows freely and unconditionally. While we get to know Alice in the story, Jordan is somewhat cloaked in secrets and unknown. He battles anxiety, which causes him to turn inward and closed off. Alice helps bring Jordan out of his own head and enjoy the world around him. I would have loved to get more background on Jordan, understanding him more, but despite that he is a good guy.

I do want to note one thing. Although the book can be classified as a hockey romance, the game is not the center of this story. Jordan plays hockey, but it is not the focus. I know some people love hockey romances due to aspects of the game being played as well. Don’t let that deter you from reading this story though. If you love romance, MCs that fight their feelings, and explosive chemistry, this is a must read for you!

As always, review any author notes before reading.

“This thing between us is too raw, too real.
It’s stolen glances at the dinner table and subtle touches between friends. It’s fond memories at the cabin and hot kisses in the snow. It’s steady hands on my waist and warm lips against my forehead. It’s ordinary moments made extraordinary by the man holding me.”

"I promise I won't. She's always been the one for me and even when I was gone, I was never out of love with her. I was just too afraid to take a chance.”

- Thoughts -

Some loves don’t fade, they just wait.

Jordan and Alice’s story is one of those slow-burning, soul-pulling romances that feels just as much about personal growth as it does about love. They’ve always had feelings—always danced around them—but life, timing, and heartbreak pulled them in different directions.

Years later, they’re brought back together under one roof… but they’re not the same people. Jordan is trying to pick up the pieces of a career and life he barely recognizes. Alice is focused on herself and her writing. And neither of them is sure if love is still waiting—or if it’s finally too late.

The dual timelines made this hit hard. You live through their first time falling in love, so when they circle back, it feels that much more earned. I loved how real their struggles felt—messy, complicated, but rooted in something honest.

Delay of Game is a story of second chances, hard conversations, and the kind of connection that never really goes away.

Alice fell for Jordan the moment she crashed into him when her brother Robbie brought him home for dinner. Jordan has tried to fight his attraction to his best friend's sister, but can't seem to keep her off his mind. A weekend alone at her family's cabin leads to Alice finally acting on her feelings and starting something with Jordan. But when he's traded to a new team, their new relationship falls apart. Now he's back and wants to make amends. Is Alice ready to open her heart to him again?

I love Delay of Game. I've read it three times now (alpha, beta, and ARC), and I find something new to love about it each time. Alice was initially my favorite character, but when I re-read it this time around, I felt like I was really connecting with Jordan.

While you can read this as a standalone, because of the lengthy timeline, it spans the events of The Love Penalty, Bar Down, and It's a Set Up. So, if you are thinking about reading this series, I'd definitely recommend reading it in order.

Delay of Game is the perfect mix of sweet (Brithday Bookstore Challenge) and spicy (boudoir photos). Alice has just the right amount of brat in her to give Jordan some much needed tough love. Their dynamic is just so good. And there is something so raw and relatable about Jordan's anxiety.

Definitely recommend this one!

This second-chance hockey romance had me rooting for Jordan and Alice from page one, even if it took them over a decade to get their timing right. Think: brother’s best friend, slowest of slow burns, and enough unresolved tension to melt a snowed-in cabin. Their eventual hookup? Chef’s kiss. But just as things heat up, life (aka a trade, depression, and miscommunication) throws a cold slapshot their way.

Jordan’s battle with mental health added depth, though I wish we’d seen more of his inner world. And while the off-ice chemistry was 🔥, I was craving a little more hockey in this hockey romance. That said, the found family vibes, the long-haul pining, and the “it’s always been you” moments gave this story real heart.

Swoony Line:
“I was too busy pining after the love of my life to even try loving someone new.”

I was given the privilege of getting to read an ARC of this book by Grey’s Promotions and Stef C.R. so thank you for the opportunity.
As a lover of Hockey Romances, I was very happy to the opportunity to add this one to my digital bookshelf. I was a bit worried when I found out that this book is apart of a series, but it holds up well as a standalone. In fact, now I want to go on a hunt for the others to get them added to my mental library as well. I enjoyed how much the characters personalities complimented each other’s so well and how their relationship evolved over the years. I found myself rooting for the characters to get things right and be together even if the miscommunication was frustrating. But it’s always nice to see it all come together in the end. My only two complaints being the missing and further depth on what causes Jordan’s anxiety as I feel that would only help his character and how he feels more understanding and the lack of more ice time. As being a hockey romance, I always enjoy both what happens on and off the ice and I was disappointed that the “hockey” wasn’t more front and center. That being said, the spice spices and the story caught my attention all the way through.

Okay so I had been reading a bunch of hockey romances back to back recently, and I did not think I would get into this book, but I was soooooo engrossed in it and was immediately hooked. Delay of Game by Stef C.R. follows the relationship between two close friends, Jordan and Alice and how their relationship has blossomed over a decade of knowing each other.

What I appreciated about their story was how we got to grow with them as their relationship developed. We get specific flashbacks throughout the years we have known each other, and each time we get the sense of miscommunication, slow burn, and longing the characters have for each other.

The pacing of this book felt very natural despite the time lapses, but it made me feel closer to each character as I got to witness them at different parts of their lives. Jordan is a professional hockey player who is a little bit more reserved and Alice is just a ray of freaking sunshine. I loved how they both compliment each other, and they made each other want to be the best possible versions of themselves.

I also loved the different relationships Jordan and Alice had with their family and friends. It brought such warmth and love seeing how they had a great support system. I highly recommend this book for those who love a good slow burn with a friends to lovers trope!

I was lucky enough to receive as an ARC 🥰

Delay of Game is a spicy, slow-burn second chance romance that’s equal parts heartwarming and hilarious. Stef C.R. delivers a story that tugs at your heartstrings while bringing the heat, featuring a couple who are obviously meant to be—even if they’re the last ones to admit it.

Alice and Jordan have always had a spark. He’s her brother’s best friend, the star hockey player she’s been crushing on for years. She’s the one girl he can’t stop thinking about, even if he’s convinced she deserves better. But fate—and a winter storm—finally gives them the chance to act on their feelings. It’s passionate, electric, and everything they’ve been waiting for.

Except that’s where things get complicated. When Jordan’s career takes him across the country, their relationship falls apart before it can really begin, leaving Alice heartbroken and determined to move on. Years later, he returns to Grand Marquee as an assistant coach—injured, older, and more determined than ever to win her back. Unfortunately, Alice isn’t sure she wants to give him the chance. She’s busy focusing on her career as a budding romance author, and the last thing she wants is to reopen old wounds.

Tropes & Highlights:
💜Brother’s best friend tension that simmers with years of pining
💜Second chances and tender moments of healing
💜A heroine finding her own voice and pursuing her passions
💜A wintery setting perfect for cozy, spicy scenes

With witty banter, genuine chemistry, and a satisfying slow-burn reunion, Delay of Game delivers a heartfelt journey of love, growth, and forgiveness. If you’re a fan of second chance hockey romances with a side of forced proximity and emotional depth, this one’s sure to steal your heart.

“𝔽𝕧€𝕜 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕔𝕠𝕟𝕤𝕖𝕢𝕦𝕖𝕟𝕔𝕖𝕤,”

Jordan and Alice are finally getting their HEA and I am here for it. This is book 3 of the Grand Marquee Manticores series it can be read as a standalone, but if you read the series from the beginning you can feel the tension for these two and will root for them from book 1.

This follows the full history of Jordan and Alice from when they first meet 10 years prior to his trade and then his injury and return. They have a lot to unpack in this time and yes their is the miscommunication trope but it works with their situation and his anxiety and her love for him you can see how it all falls apart and comes back together.

If you think you couldn’t love Ash more just wait he will he will forever make you fall in love with him no matter what.

I thought it was interesting to read some current trends that are currently happening today like, the Barnes & noble shopping challenge and calling out a popular book that we see today (divine rivals.) I think anyone during our booktok era can relate or know what that means.

The book started in the past for a book portion of the book. We have Alice and Jordan who go back and forth on their feelings. I felt very hot and cold throughout the book. Alice at a young age knew all she wanted was Jordan while Jordan always thought she was off limits because she was her friend’s little sister and part of their family. (You have to read to know how close they really are.) I swear they have a steamy evening then we’re back to cold. I understand where Jordan was coming from but I was getting tired myself. Jordan eventually gets traded from his hockey team, later gets an injury and decides to exile himself from everyone. It really goes to show sharing feelings really is importance even if you feel weak while doing it. I’m glad he came to his senses and came back home and tried to get back his old life.

At the end, I am happy we had a happily ever after all the family supports in the book.

Thank you Grey’s Production for the Arc, super grateful to be able to reach this book.

✨ARC Review✨

4.5 ⭐ for Delay of Game by Stef C.R.

I have been waiting for Alice and Jordan's story since book one, and it did not disappoint! I read this in a day, I loved it so much.

Alice is so relatable, the bookish girlie we all are at heart, and Jordan is her perfect match. Sweet, a bit nerdy, but can turn on his seductive side when needed; I loved him, even if his struggles made him a bit standoffish at times. His battle with his mental health made my heart break for him and Alice, but I'm so happy they manage to overcome their problems and finally get their HEA.

I loved how the story started in the past and slowly progressed to the present, giving us a real portrait of their relationship, though I feel it's best to have read the other books beforehand because you can relate those moments back to the other books!

Getting updates from the other couples during the story was so much fun too, and it made saying goodbye that much more bittersweet! As much as Jordan and Alice frustrated me at times (just tell each other how you feel!!), they also brought the heat; the boudoir shoot? HOT.

Read if you enjoy sports romance, friends to lovers, cute moments and mental health rep!

Thank you to Grey’s Promotions and Stef C.R. for the ARC of Delay of Game.

I knew this book was a part of a series, and while I have them on my TBR I haven't had a chance to read them yet. I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to jump into the world.

Jordan and Alice are such a great representation of right person wrong time.
They had a connection from the moment they met, it just wasn't their moment. It took years for them to both be in a place to start something, and life got in the way. Then finally they had their shot and it was beautiful..
While miscommunication tropes are pretty generally my least favorite, this was more complicated than that. There was deeper mental health issues at root and I loved the genuine brutally honest representation of that.

The banter between these two and even them and the other characters was top notch.
The tension was so good, the swoon was amazing,, and the spice. My god, the boudoir scene was so good. Daddy Jordan came to play and I was here for it 100%.

I loved these two and their story really felt perfect for them and their journey.

Book three in the Grand Marquee Manticores series is bringing us second chance, brother’s best friend, hockey romance! We’ve also got found family, mental health rep, and “it’s always been you”. You’ll see some familiar and favourite characters return for Jordan and Alice’s story. For me it felt like there were some hyper independence vibes in the framework of this story which I know I can certainly relate to. It’s not always easy asking for help even if that’s when we need it the most and I think that plays a big role in the love that spans years between these two. On top of all that you’ve also got the spice that was spicing 🔥

Jordan and Alice have spent years pining after one another. Everyone knows they’re meant to be, everyone except Jordan and Alice that is. After a winter storm forces them to face the feelings that have been simmering below the surface, it’s short lived when Jordan gets traded and moves abruptly across the country. When Jordan finds himself back in Grand Marquee after a career ending injury, he ends up living across the hall from Alice. But is it too late to rekindle the flame that once burned bright between them?

📕BOOK REVIEW📕

Happy Release Day to the author 💕

This is my first book by the author, and what delicious little treat.

Jordan and Alice have known each other for some time-her brother is marrying his sister. They have mutual attraction, and the two share a shortened relationship as he drafted out. However, an injury leaves Jordan wanting to remove himself from those he loves. Will it be too late for them, when he decides to move back home.

Awww I really felt sorry for Jordan; he clearly wanted to be with Alice, but his own mental health just couldn’t allow it. I wanted to wrap him up and give him a big squeeze. I thought the mental health rep was written beautifully, especially from a male perspective. I loved Alice and his family supported him-it really was sweet.

On the flip side, I felt incredibly emotional for Alice as Jordan wasn’t always honest, and this confused her. But, I loved the way she was honest with him about this.
Their relationship was built on trust, and I enjoyed watching it build and grow. Their romance was delicious!!! I loved them together.

I’d love to read more form the author :)

I really enjoyed this book, but I definitely had some mixed emotions along the way.

The story is told mostly through flashbacks, which isn’t my favorite narrative style. While I found myself wishing for more present-day scenes, I did appreciate how the flashbacks slowly revealed the depth of Alice and Jordan’s relationship. Watching their journey from friends to something more was really sweet and genuine.

One of my favorite aspects was how naturally Jordan fit into Alice’s life and her family—it added so much warmth to the story. Their bond felt real and tender.

Since this is a hockey romance, I was expecting more on-ice moments. The hockey element was more of a background detail than a driving force, and I missed the adrenaline and competitive energy that usually comes with sports romances.

Still, the emotional depth and strong character development won me over. A solid 4-star read!

Troupes: Hockey Romance/Brother's Best Friend/Friends to Lovers/Found Family/Second Chance

Thank you to Grey's Promotions and Stef C.R. for the ARC!

This was my first read from Stef C.R., and I jumped in without having read the earlier books in the series. That may have impacted how much I connected with the story, especially in the first half, which focused a lot on flashbacks spanning several years (and other books in the series). While I understand the purpose of showing how the relationship developed, the structure felt a bit choppy to me and stretched out longer than I expected.

I also struggled a bit with the MMC's ongoing insecurity—it made it hard for me to fully connect with his character.

That said, the core story had some really strong emotional moments, and there were parts I genuinely enjoyed. Even though this one didn’t fully click with me, I’m still interested enough to check out the rest of the series.

Would I recommend it? Maybe—especially if you're already familiar with the series or enjoy emotionally layered romances.

Jordan and Alice were friends who everyone thinks belongs together but Alice is off limits Jordan won't go after his bestfriend sister but there still close then those feelings they've kept hidden surface only for Jordan to cut and run and he has a really good excuse he's been traded to another team so yah he's a bit of a jerk then everything that could go wrong in his life dose when he suffers a career ending injury he deals with some heavy mental illness so he decides to go home and try and fix things with Alice. Alice is upset obviously about how Jordan acted and she's not ready to forgive him she's a teacher and has a pretty good life and she's writing romance stories but she will always wonder if her life will ever have the love she writes about. There is the whole emotional back and forth romance hate you maybe love you thing going on there is also the issue of mental health and getting better that Jordan struggles with.

I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.

The amount of times I wanted to grab Jordan by the shoulders and shake some sense into him?! Countless. This book had my nerves on edge! I mean, I understand from his perspective why he thought his actions were okay. That doesn't mean I liked them. I'm just glad he pulled his head out of the deep end and finally went after what he wanted... cinnamon roll style. I loved it!

Alice was so sweet and patient. Understanding even when she finally learned the whole truth. She just wanted to be loved back completely. She was a beautiful soul.

This is the first book by this author I have read. While I was a bit impatient to get to the here and now I do appreciate how she went about doing their back story. It definitely highlighted everything I needed to know. This book was truly enjoyable and I look forward to reading more of her work.

*I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review*

I liked Jordan and Alice..when they were together. I liked the book, but I didn't love it. There were a lot of good moments and overall, it was a good read. I just felt like there was too much back and forth and the years of build up just didn't really "build up" as much as I felt like it should.

They both seemed a bit old to be playing games with their feelings and not acting on them. I know that Jordan got traded and hurt and that added to the distance between them and their bad moments, but it was just too drawn out for me.

I also expected a bit more hockey to be part of the book, but it there really wasn't much actual hockey action taking place. I also would have liked a little more about Alice's job as well. I feel like when those things are included, it makes it a bit more personable.

I did not realize there was a series, but I will probably check out the other books as well. Even though I didn't LOVE this book, I will check out other books by Stef C.R.

Thank you to Grey's Promotions and the author, Stef C.R., for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Overall, I did like this book a lot!
& I will absolutely have to go read the ones that came before this one as well!
Alice is definitely my spirit animal, I love her so much. The fact that she’s an avid reader and her needing more bookshelf space, I just felt that in my soul!
I personally did not like that half the book was past, and that’s probably where the last star went. I was a little confused in the beginning because of it but I started over once I got further so I could understand better.
The found family aspect in this book absolutely rocks, like that was probably my favorite part of this book!
GO READ THIS BOOK TOMORROW 🔥

This is the third book in this series, and this is Jordan and Alice’s story.
Jordan is Alice’s brother’s best friend, and is a hockey player, while Alice is a middle school teacher, who aspires to become a romance author. The relationship between these two is short lived, when Jordan is traded to a team across country, leaving a heartbroken Alice behind. When Jordan suffers a career ending injury, and enduring a tough recovery, he returns to his hometown to become assistant coach to the “Manticores,” and he ends up living across the hall from Alice.
This is a good story which is a slow burn, with found family, friendships, emotions, miscommunication, humor, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, second chances, and love, which leads to an enjoyable and heartfelt, sports romance.
I look forward to reading more from this author whose work I recommend.

ARC Review - Who survives that much tension?
This book takes place over the course of twelve years. It can be read as a standalone but is a part of the Grand Margquee Manticores series, though I think reading in order helped build even more of the tension between the characters.

Alice and Jordan meet through family as Jordan plays hockey with Alice's brother, yes you read that right that this is a brother's best friend trope!! I loved the dynamic between the friends and family in the book - really spoke to me in the cute traditions and adding emotional depth to the overall novel.

Why not five? I LOVE Hockey - and there just wasn't enough for me, I wanted more ice time with all the perfect spice that was written into the book.

Definitely would recommend this book, though if you are reading for the hockey scenes this may not be it for you.

The number of times I wanted to smack Jordan across the face cannot be counted. However, I completely understood his desire to run away when things got tough and not be a burden on his friends. However, that was at the expense of Alice, his best friend’s little sister who he has had a thing for for years. It was mutual and something they were working toward when he was dealt a blow regarding his hockey career. From that, it became several times of him disappearing due to his own issues and others never knowing why he was suddenly elusive, yet again. When he moved back to the town all his friends lived in, they were finally able to work through things and actually have the relationship they were meant to have all along. I really enjoyed this book even at the frustrating moment. A very fulfilling read!

What you get:
⋆ second chance
⋆ friends to lovers
⋆ hurt / comfort
⋆ dual pov
⋆ found family
⋆ best friends sister
⋆ good boy / good girl
⋆ hockey coach x teacher

My review:
I gave this book a well deserved 4 star rating! I can say this was one of the few friends to lovers that I enjoyed thoroughly, and it actually made me want to go back and read the rest of the series because of how much I liked the writing style and the vibe as a whole. The characters were flawed, which really impressed me, I was completely immersed in the story in spite of it being a little annoying due to a lot of miscommunication. I found this book to be extremely character driven..
I recommend this if you like spicy hockey romances with second chances, it’s part of a series but could work as a standalone perfectly.

I was sent the book by Grey’s promotions but all opinions are my own.

This is the third book in the Grand Marquee Manticore’s series. This book follows MMC Jordan and FMC Alice who are long-time friends. Alice is best friends with Jordan’s sister and everyone around them knows Alice and Jordan are perfect for each other, but Alice and Jordan. These two characters have terrific chemistry and I loved their witty banter, flirty convos, and the will-they-won’t-they tension. Alice has a strong family backing her up. Jordan’s character is less of an open book. He has anxiety and is more inside himself and hard to get to know. Alice is the one person who can get him to come out of his shell. Despite his internal struggles, Jordan is a great guy.

Tropes:
🏒Best Friend’s Sister
💗Hockey Coach x Teacher
🏒Second Chance Romance
💗Good Boy MMC
🏒Good Girl FMC
💗Friends to Lovers
🏒Found Family
💗Hurt and Comfort
🏒Mental Health Rep
