I really enjoyed this book. I wasn’t so sure in the beginning, it did take me a bit to get into it.. but once I got there I didn’t want to put it down!

You’ll meet Anna who is a dog walker who lives in a little cottage on her found family’s farm. She’s fierce and has went through something that is speculated throughout the book.

Lachlan ( Lachie) is a grumpy arsehole lol who hires her to take care of his dog while he is away for work. So many secrets as to what his work actually is.

The twists and turns in this book, the revelations everything coming full circle. It was a very good and interesting read.

Tropes: mistaken identity; found family; marriage of convenience; military romance ; alpha male ; protective hero
Thank you greys promotion and L.M Allen for the arc in return for my honest review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Plot
🌶🌶/5 Spice
💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾/5 Characters

When I saw the tropes for this book, I jumped at the opportunity to read it.

Anna is a dog walker who lives on a farm with her best friend and their family. One day, she drives through town when a car hits someone's dog. Upon closer inspection, Anna realizes the dog belongs to her attractive (and wealthy) neighbour Lachie. The dog, due to its injury, ends up biting Anna, but she is so understanding and tries to get him up and to the vet. Lachie blames Anna for his dog getting hit and insert our enemies-to-lovers trope.

I loved the will they, won't they tension between our main characters. Did it get a little annoying on Lachie's being so hot and cold when our girl clearly is ready to take the next step, yes. However, when we find out why he's like that, it's understandable. I mean, it also could have been communicated, but this is a story. So why the 3/5 plot review? The first half of this book felt completely separate from the second half. I'm not going to lie; it went in a direction I didn't expect, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. To me, it just didn't feel like they meshed together. It was as if two books were written about the same characters, and we passed them together. I just wanted more transition into the story from point A to B. The first half of this was a 5/5 for me. I do think it's important everyone come up to their conclusion, though. If you like secret identities and enemies to lovers, you'll like this. Regardless, I did enjoy Code Name Alpha, and I read it all the way through to know what happens. It does capture your attention.

Oh, what a story. Anna is a dog sitter and loves her job, but when Lachie's doggo Woody gets hurt, Anna rushes him to the vet. Lachie is only known to her as the new local hot grump he not only gets angry at her for her help but doesn't thank her for it either.

Only the next week, he arrives on her doorstep to TELL her she is now hired to dogsit his dog. She, of course refuses, and he, of course, convinces her otherwise.

The best thing is that it's at his mansion.

The building attraction is intense and as dangerous as the secrets between Lachie and Anna.

Holy hell, I was excited to read Code Name Alpha. I wasn't at all expecting where the story had taken me, though. The suspense! Wow, that was epic. The heat and connection between these two was incredible, and it had me gripped to the end.

The ending was also 👌

I haven't read a story so far from this author that hasn't been amazing as yet, so this story just proves it. I definitely recommend 👌

We start with a taste of the life of grumpy Lachie Webb. We meet his unstable, soon-to-be ex-wife and the craziness she is. When we meet the sunshine that is Anna, the friendly dog walker with a sad past.  We follow the grumpy/sunshine relationship between Lachie and Anna (and watch as Luna and Woody blossom). They start on rough terms with lots of push and pull from the get-go. While both are suppressing feelings for each other. As the story goes on, there is a lot that is thrown at you at the climax; it was a lot to take in with not that much context starting at 60%.  I enjoyed the story, but I felt the plot was rushed, and the same with the instant love.  The spice is more closed door to me, but the chemistry between Lachie and Anna is so good. I loved how much Luna and Woody are part of the story, I love fur babies.  Overall, I like Code Name: Alpha and recommend it!

I didn’t know what to expect for the book In the beginning I was a little confused but caught on and the story started to piece together. I did not understand Lachie in the beginning once I started to see his backstory I could understand him more and I my feelings changed from I don’t like him to I understand his actions a little better. I felt for Anna through out the book. Great storyline with a twist I didn’t see at first Thank you for the arc!

Okay, I’ll be honest—this book took me a minute to get into. The beginning felt a bit chaotic, and I definitely had some questions (like, girl… he broke into your house, and you’re falling for him already?). The romance moves fast, which gave me a bit of emotional whiplash.

BUT—once everything starts clicking into place, it all makes sense. The tension? There. The secrets? Messy in the best way. And by the end, I was fully invested. Plus, Lachie’s dog might just be the best character in the whole book. If you love broody, emotionally unavailable heroes who eventually get it together, this one’s for you.

New Author for me and I was quite entertained. I liked the whole suspense and mystery and a twist that knocked me sideways. Was not expecting that, I like it when I get surprised. I did however guess the mole correctly haha.
Anna has been through tough tunes but we don't really know what and now she is just living back at her old countryside home with the love and support of her friend's family. She is there on borrowed time and just trying to live happily as a dog sitter. I loved that she was so happy and friendly despite having indured so much.
Lachie is the grump that was living in the gated mansion next to her. He was quite and secretive and works for high security firm.
He was also married for under cover purposes. Which he has been trying to divorce but she is very unhinged.
So when he meets Anna, you can feel the attraction but he is constantly pulling and pushing away. I felt sorry for Anna at times because she already has lack of confidence and this doesn't help. It was his dog that started and I loved the dogs in this book. They really were wonderful.
But someone else is interested in her and she can't wait around for Lachie and decides to move on.
This is dual POV but I've not read a book like this, where 1st half of book is from Anna's POV and 2nd half is just from Lachie's POV. So that was different, I still prefer the chapters being in rotation between the both.
Will Lachie be able to hold back and lose his chance with Anna? What is this secret Anna has? I do not want to say anymore incase I give the twist away and you really should experience and get shocked.
Their relationship is very heated and he is super possessive of her. He has a lot of grovelling to do and he does a great job of it.
My only negative is that, I didn't understand why he had to be under cover and keep up the faced of being married, while working for the government security. I also didn't understand why he didn't get a fake certificate instead, knowing how unhinged his wife is. Other than that this was really good.

Code Name Alpha is an intriguing blend of military romance, fake relationship, and slow-burn emotional healing with a unique format that sets it apart from many traditional romance reads. The split POV style, with the first half told entirely from Anna’s perspective and the second from Lachie’s, provides a fresh structure that ultimately pays off. While it took a little time to fully connect with the characters, the shift in perspective helped bring clarity and depth to their individual motivations and emotional struggles.

Anna is a strong, determined heroine with a complicated past, and I appreciated how her vulnerability was layered beneath fierce loyalty and quiet resilience. Lachie is your classic broody alpha- a total puzzle at first- but once we step into his mindset, his behavior starts to make sense, and his softer side begins to shine. The emotional journey he goes through is one of the highlights of the story, especially once he starts to open up and let Anna in.

There were moments early on that felt a bit confusing or underexplained- particularly surrounding Anna’s fears and the nature of Lachie’s job- but as the plot progressed, those loose threads were eventually addressed and tied up in a satisfying way. The twist near the end was especially well done- it caught me by surprise even though there were subtle hints sprinkled throughout. That payoff made the second half of the book much stronger and more emotionally resonant.

The supporting characters were also fantastic and added humor and warmth that helped balance out the darker undertones. I would love to see some of them get their own stories in the future!

While I did wish for a bit more balance between the two POVs from the start, I still had a great time with this book. The emotional depth, intense connection between the leads, and the eventual HEA made the journey worthwhile. I’ll definitely be checking out more from L.M. Allen!

Code Name Alpha surprised me in the best way. At first, I wasn’t sure where it was going—with its non-traditional structure and a very grumpy MMC who seriously tested my patience—but once I found the rhythm, I couldn’t stop turning the pages.

The story kicks off with Anna, a fiery dog-walker with a past she keeps well-guarded, and Lachie—a cold, mysterious man with a secretive job and major “keep away” energy. Their connection begins through his dog, Woody (10/10 the real MVP of this book), and spirals into a slow-burning, high-stakes fake marriage that unfolds in a way that’s both frustrating and fascinating.

The book is uniquely structured: the first half is entirely from Anna’s POV, and the second from Lachie’s. It was a bold move by the author, and while I initially found it disorienting, I ended up appreciating the deeper insight into their individual thoughts. Lachie, in particular, made so much more sense once we got into his head—his walls, his pain, and his unexpected tenderness.

I loved the tension, the suspense, and the little puzzle pieces that finally clicked into place in the second half. The emotional payoff was satisfying, and the twist near the end? Chef’s kiss. It added a whole new dimension to their story that I didn’t see coming.

That said, the pacing in the beginning felt a bit uneven, and some plot threads early on were hard to follow or underdeveloped. But everything came together nicely by the end, and the HEA felt well-earned.

If you like military romance, grumpy x sunshine energy, found family vibes, and books that keep you guessing (and slightly yelling at the MMC), Code Name Alpha is worth picking up. I’ll definitely be reading more by L.M. Allen!

Let me start by saying: wow. Code Name Alpha by L.M. Allen was my first read from this author. It’s one of those books that pulls you in with its unique premise—a fake marriage, an icy hero, and a loveable dog—and then completely sweeps you off your feet with the unexpected twist you absolutely don’t see coming.

Lachie is the kind of character you love to hate at first—cold, distant, with a superiority complex that makes you want to shake some warmth into him. But beneath that tough exterior, there’s a depth that unfolds beautifully as the story progresses. And Anna? She’s fierce, funny, and flawed in the best way. A dog walker with a sharp instinct for trouble and a heart big enough to see past Lachie’s icy armor.

Their chemistry is electric, but what really stole the show for me was the emotional undercurrent woven through their story. The fake marriage trope is done with a refreshing twist, and the bond between Anna and Lachie’s dog is both heart-melting and plot-driving in the most adorable way.

But let’s talk about that twist. Without spoiling anything—I genuinely didn’t see it coming. It flipped the story on its head and added a whole new layer of tension and intrigue that kept me flipping pages long after I should’ve been asleep.

If you're looking for a romance that brings both heat and heart, with characters you’ll root for (and maybe yell at a little), Code Name Alpha is it. I went in not knowing what to expect, and I came out a fan of L.M. Allen. This book has it all—romance, secrets, redemption, and just the right amount of emotional chaos.

Highly recommend adding this one to your TBR.

Surprisingly kept me gripped!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶🌶

For a slow burn, I found it really engaging. I tend to fall asleep easily if things move too slow, but the epilogue got my interest straight away. Then the build of the characters throughout was great! And I love the dogs!! 🦮🐕‍🦺 They were their own characters and made me feel like they were just as much part of the story.
The "twist" was expected, but it was still grabbing to the "how" it was all revealed.

There is talk of past trauma and abuse as a child. It's a journey of healing and learning to let go out of the past. Dual POV - First 50% is FMC POV, the second is MMC POV. Some chapters are super short and others very long. It fits to what is going on in the storyline but my brain didn't like the very obvious change initially - prewarn for any that would affect - it does help the flow of the plot though. There's method to the madness.

The FMC is epic! Her character has so many layers and you see more of her background, interests and abilities as the story progresses. You won't guess where her character progresses to! But I won't spoil the surprise 🤐

The MMC, grumpy, hot, muscled, tattooed... fairly common book boyfriend at first glance. But I enjoyed how his character was set in the epilogue straight away. So when we saw how he was, we had a background to the "why he's grumpy" far more, and we can't blame him. He's not full of himself, how a lot of bbf end up being. He makes mistakes, he realises them, and he tries to better himself! Coodos to him!

Great little contemporary romantic read.

My Opinion: Intense, Gripping story between a Dog Sitter and Grumpy Alpha hero.

Code Name: Alpha is a Grumpy X Sunshine love story with amazing external elements such as military mission, strong characters and gripping, intense plot with such a surprisingly amazing end. Anna is such a strong heroine with a vulnerability about her, including her past that had me on the edge of my seat whole time while reading the story. The flow of plot, from their first meeting where they meet when Lachie misunderstood that his dog woody was injured due to Anna to the point where they finally get comfortable and starts opening up to each other. It’s the process of finding that one person who you can be vulnerable in front of, does things for me.

While book was little bit slow and confusing at first but with time, it got better to the point that I had really sweet time trying to put pieces together to the end in a really satisfying way. I also feel that side characters in a book can help add some really interesting and fun elements and this book has them, which help balance the darker tone of this book with sweet and happy tone.

The emotional, passionate journey between both character’s and having a crazy fake wife (Fake marriage but not with our fmc) with such twists dips is worth checking out and, in my opinion, since it is little slow in beginning, I will say not to give up and once you overcome that slow burn part, story with pick up pace in very engrossing way.

This book proved to be a truly enjoyable experience, even if it took a little while to fully draw me in. Initially, I found myself needing some time to connect with the story and its characters. However, once I did, I was completely hooked and found it incredibly difficult to put down.
We are introduced to Anna, a resilient dog walker who has found her place within the warm embrace of her found family on their farm. Her strength is palpable, and the underlying mystery surrounding her past adds an intriguing layer that keeps you guessing throughout.
Then there's Lachlan, or Lachie, who lives up to the reviewer's description of a "grumpy arsehole" in the best possible way. His initial interactions with Anna are charged with a compelling tension, especially as he hires her to care for his dog during his mysterious work absences. The secrecy surrounding his profession only deepens the intrigue.
What truly elevates this book are the expertly woven twists and turns. The author skillfully brings various plot threads together, culminating in satisfying revelations that make the journey worthwhile. The incorporation of tropes like mistaken identity, found family, marriage of convenience, military romance, alpha male, and protective hero adds familiar yet engaging elements to the narrative.
While the beginning required a touch of patience, the payoff was significant. This book is a testament to a story that builds momentum, ultimately delivering a captivating and memorable read.

Kicking off the weekend with another arc review!

Code Name Alpha is a dark, fake relationship, military romance between Anna and Lachie.

I loved Anna’s personality! I really felt for her as she slowly brings herself to trust Lachie. It’s easy to understand why that’s difficult for her to do after so many people have let her down. And it’s even more difficult for her to allow herself to be happy when there’re so many people and circumstances trying to convince her that she doesn’t deserve to be. I loved how even with her past always coming back to haunt her, she still has her chosen family that she would do anything for and knows she can trust with anything, and that family also includes Lachie.

I loved how all in Lachie is with Anna. I completely understood his struggles with letting her into his life at first. When you lose enough people in your life, it feels easier to push others away in order to protect both them and yourself from further pain. But I love how Anna doesn’t allow him to do that, and he really opens his eyes to how much she means to him the more time they spend together. This man would truly be broken if anything happened to her, and would burn down anything in his path that tried to keep him from her.

I had such a great time reading this romance! Thank you to @lmallenwrites and @greyspromo for my arc copy! Be sure to grab this in KU on April 4th💗

This is the first book that I have read by L.M. Allen, I enjoyed the storyline and the characters. I would have liked if we got more of the characters back stories. I believe for at least myself more of Lache's past to understand him, he was hard to like for part of the book.

Lache is an arrogant cad, he pushes people away, he doesn't need or want a real wife, especially since he already has a fake one. And his only true love is his dog woody. One day woody gets loose and gets hurt a passerby stopped to help and she took him to a vet, her name is Anna. And she is a dog walker. And this is how these two meet, and he accuses her of hurting his dog, he was a total ass, his dog bit her he didn't seem to care. He does find her and apologize and then commands she dog sit , you won't believe the chemistry between these two. There is danger in the world around them as they grow closer, remember he has a fake wife who is a real person and technically they are married, and they work together undercover. she isn't going to let go. A case they are working on becomes very dangerous. Someone wants all of them dead. But who is the question and why?

Very good chemistry. Loved the dogs especially woody, overall good romance.

Overall, I enjoyed the book it was something outside of my norm for sure. It was interesting that the first half of the book is from Anna’s POV, and the second half is Lachie. I think I still prefer the traditional Dual POV, but it was an appreciated change up.
I would be lying if I wasn’t going what the….for the first half of this book. It seemed like there were so many broken plot moments. But I am glad that I pushed through (and encouraged you to as well) because it all came round perfectly and ended wrapped up in a nice bow.
Lachie is the definition of Mr. Mean and so many times I wanted to whack him in this read, but Anna is a spitfire FMC that has zero problems putting him in his place.
While everything did come full circle in the end, I think that there were a lot of things going on in this read, pulling your attention in different directions. I think she could have focused more on one specific scenario the rest were so minor that they didn’t really have to be in the book, Not a bad read at all and I will look for more from LM Allen.

Anna is a dog walker and has recently moved back into what one would call her adoptive family's farm. She had a rough upbringing with a mother who was never present and was abusive. Shauna, her best friend's family, picked up the pieces and took Anna under their wing. Lachie is a broody and grumpy Military personnel who holds a high ranking position in cyber security. The initial introduction was rocky. While Anna was on the road she witnessed a car hit a dog. She picks up the dog and rushes it to the vet to get the help that it needs. Woody’s owner comes into the vet frantic and upset. Yelling ensues and Anna leaves. Lachie finds out she had nothing to do with the accident.
Code name Alpha does have some twists that I myself did not catch. The relationship that started off rocky led to Anna becoming Woody’s caretaker when Lachie was away. Along with her dog Luna you get to see how much love Anna has for the dogs and the emotional therapy that they provide. The story shows how two broken individuals go through trauma differently but end up finding a common ground. As much as Lachie wants to fight his growing feelings for Anna he can only fight it for so long. They are both smart individuals that have a lot more in common than they think.

"What do you want from me?"
"I want it all. "

I do not even know where to begin with this review
I did devour this in one sitting
From beginning to end, this was packed with twists and surprises I did not see coming. Add in the undeniable chemistry between Lachie and Anna that was off the charts, along with their "I want you -I can't keep you- I need you - I'm letting you go", which I blame on Lach because he has trouble with the truth, and I was white knuckling my kindle in either anger or suspense throughout

Oh, and then there is his fake but real wife...
Yeah, that is a whole other dynamic to the storyline

"Well, how about you tell me what it is that you do want? Really. Specifically. Because I'll do it if it ends this game. I don't want to play anymore."

I don't blame her. I was getting whiplash!
The alpha male protecting the woman who holds his heart...
She is a lot stronger than you think, and you are not protecting he,r you are destroying her

And HOLY HADES Wait for the reveals!!
I made a guess on who was responsible for the betrayal, and was pretty spot on
I did not foresee the whole debacle about Anna's past - She is a lot more forgiving than I would have been

Loved Anna's family! Her ride or die <3!

Looking forward to the rest of the team's stories!

“You’re my reason, Anna. My reason to come home. My reason to make it through. I want to be yours.”

Man oh man do I love me a good German Shepard MMC!
You get all of the possessive alpha male touch her and die vibes but when he is with her he is loving and caring and a total softy! Perfection!!!!!
I mean don’t get me wrong it wasn’t like that in the beginning… in the beginning I wanted to jump into the book… in the beginning I was read to throw hands but honestly in the beginning both Anna and Lachie were annoying 😂😂 but I just pushed through and I’m so glad I did!!! I loved the twist at the end… even though there were Easter eggs throughout the story, that twist still took me by surprise!!!

I really enjoyed this book! The love story, the characters, the side characters were hilarious and I’m hoping we get spin off books!!! The spice was 🤌🤌!

Thank you to Grey’s Promotions and L.M. Allen for the opportunity to read this book!!

** another quote just cause it’s too good!!!

Amazing is even quite the word for the this book!! I loved everything about it from the story building to the very intriguing characters. They writing style and how the plot flowed in general made this story just jump off the pages. I feel like when I started this book I had an idea of what I expected to happen but was very quickly taken down another more interesting course and I have no complaints. The suspense just locked me in...the more I read the more I needed. I can't wait to read more of L.M. Allen's work.

The tension between Lachie and Anna as the story went along and they 'got to know' each other more was entertaining. The dogs stole my heart also....Luna is loyal to a T and Woody knew exactly who to trust and held onto the quick forming bond with Anna. The fact that these to form an instant connection yet both try to avoid it and fail tremendously held a special spot in my heart for them. The support they both had from their found family and friends was very strong and they both needed it for sure. Be warned....if you can call it a warning...Lachie is a very broody and protecting man but soft dog dad at heart which had me instantly loving his character!!!

This was a weird book for me. As I started reading I thought I had walked into the middle of a series. Lachie is a cold, aloof, withdrawn man. He has a fake (real) wife because of some military assignment. Are you confused because I was too. This majority of this story is told from Anna’s point of view. She takes care of and boards dogs. However, Anna is skittish and she has some secrets. When Anna and Lachie meet, it’s not pleasant. His dog Woody was hit by a car and she decides to take the dog to the vet. Lachie is extremely angry at her for taking his dog. Then later he tells her she needs to watch his dog at his house while he goes away. This story was a little disjointed and hard to follow. The story begins to unfold and make more sense when it’s told from Lachie’s point of view. I think it would have flowed better if the author had alternated the pov because as I read the first few chapters I really didn’t like Lachie and saw no redeeming characteristics and thought he was a terrible MMC. This was my first book by this author and I would be willing to give them another chance.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️

This book is really tricky for me. In the end i had a great time and I liked the way all the loose ends were tied. And the HEA really was beautiful. However getting there was a JOURNEY. The first half of the book is Anna's pov, and for her entire pov I didn't particularly like Lachie. Like.. at all. And I was really confused as to what Anna was running from.

Thank goodness for Lachie's POV cause I was 👌🏻this close to writing him off and throwing my kindle at the wall. I mean I get it. His wife was crazy. But it was almost cruel what he did, and I'm glad his friends set him straight.

It took awhile for the actual conflict to be explained. What Anna was running from, and just how well her and Lachie knew Each other.

All in all I had a good time. And if Shauna were to get a book I would be the first to jump in line to read it.

Thank you L.M. Andrews and greys Promotions for an ARC of this book!

My opinion of this book is divided, and I find it really difficult to rate it. The plot was surprisingly good and exciting, with interesting twists. I loved the setting, and Anna's work with the dogs was a nice idea. The supporting characters were also diverse and likeable.

But I found the writing style a bit awkward; there were illogical and rushed transitions. Some things are explained later, but not everything. Certain things are inadequately explained. I also found the hero's nickname, Lachie, simply ridiculous and completely inappropriate for his character. His personality, by the way, is completely inconsistent. At the beginning he is incredibly grumpy and rude, but then suddenly becomes very sweet. It just didn't fit together at all. And what I also didn't understand was when the two fell in love. Because they spend almost no time together until halfway through the book, but they are already head over heels in love.

My conclusion: It could have been such a great book. But it needs some revision and a bit more finesse.

ARC review

This book was an interesting military romance. I loved the slow burn between Lachie and Anna and the found family. The side characters stole the show for me. I also enjoyed  the investigation and the mystery parts of this story a lot.

I have to admit that I was confused for the first half of this book. For the first half of the book we had just the FMC's POV and I was starting to get extremely frustrated. I had so many questions and none of them were getting answered.
Thankfully for the rest of the book everything became clearer with the MMC's POV.
When I finally got into that grumpy and growly man's head, I have to say that I was quite impressed. The author's idea  to separate the two points of vues like that was pretty brilliant. I just wished that it came a little bit sooner in the story because it helped me connect with the MCs.

The conclusion was extremely satisfying. I loved that all the loose ends got tied up in the end. I was surprised by some of the twists.

This book is like a rom-com rollercoaster with a canine Cupid! Lachie, our resident ice king, thinks he's too cool for a real wife until his dog plays matchmaker with the delightful dog walker, Anna. Apparently, even the most superior bachelors are no match for puppy love.

Anna, bless her heart, sees the "bad boy" signs radiating off Lachie like a neon "Danger: Gorgeous" sign and promptly walks right into his complicated life. Forget running; she's clearly got a thrill-seeking streak (and maybe a few secrets of her own to spice things up).

So, we've got a fake marriage, a ridiculously attractive grump, a sassy dog walker with a devilish side, and secrets galore. Will Lachie thaw out enough to realize Anna is more than just a dog-rescuing angel? Will Anna uncover Lachie's secrets without revealing her own potentially scandalous baggage?

If you enjoy witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and a plot twist or two, this book promises a fun and flirty escape. Just be prepared to fall in love – maybe even harder than Lachie's dog did!

Buckle up, because L.M. Allen's "Code Name Alpha" is a WILD ride! Dog sitter Anna's first (and disastrously grumpy) encounter with the hot local Lachie over his injured dog Woody is just the beginning. Fast forward, and suddenly she's Woody's personal sitter... at Lachie's mansion! The attraction? Seriously intense and laced with dangerous secrets.

Okay, but seriously... I thought I knew what to expect, but the suspense in "Code Name Alpha" completely blindsided me (in the best way!). The chemistry between Anna and Lachie was scorching, keeping me glued to the pages until that 👌 perfect ending. L.M. Allen has done it again! While the initial enemies-to-lovers had Lachie playing hot and cold (understandable later!), the second half of this book EXPLODED into a completely unexpected, yet surprisingly coherent, realm of intrigue and suspense. It felt like two stories seamlessly woven together. If you crave secret identities and enemies-to-lovers with a massive dose of "what just happened?!" READ. THIS. BOOK! Highly recommend! 👌

Things I liked:
1. Anna
2. Shauna and her family
3. The suspense/intrigue aspect of the plot (when we got to it)

What I didn't like:
Lachie-- by splitting the POV as they did, the author didn't really give the reader a chance to like him since he was such as ass when the story was told from Anna's POV in the first half of the book. And maybe this was intentional? He's hot and cold with Anna; he taps her phone, uses drones to watch her, and installs cameras in her living space, including her bedroom. He unashamedly watches her dress and undress (even while railing against someone watching her from outside); and manipulates Anna by using the same tactics he uses when getting bad guys to talk (while again, trying to claim he's any different from another person Lachie says was 'manipulating Anna to coerce her love.') Then he claims he's going to show her what a healthy loving relationship looks like?

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Code Name: Alpha had me hooked from the start. There is the perfect balance of romance, mystery, and action with twists that I didn't see coming. Mostly, due to the fact that I focused more on rooting for Lachie on and off throughout. He does redeem himself once we are able to see his point of view and better understand the reasons behind his actions. Both Lachie and Anna grew as characters in a natural way that made their story feel realistic. They had a very push and pull relationship. I loved when they would do the "If I say yes?" and "If I say no?" scenarios. I thought it was such a cute way for them to learn what they really wanted from one another without directly saying it. Woody was the best wing man, bringing them together in unexpected ways. There are some confusing parts in the middle where aspects of the story are briefly introduced or hinted at, however by the end they are all resolved.

Code Name Alpha is a book that keeps you intrigued from start to finish. The book is told in split pov with many chapters told by Anna and then some told by Lachie. I would have liked more background information on Lachie. He was somewhat difficult to like as a main character in the beginning, but he grew on me with how protective and loving he is with his core group and his dog. Anna is easily likable and has many mysteries about her, which I loved. Anna is also a very relatable character to many women, which makes it easy to root for her and want her to do what is best for herself. She has such an interesting backstory and definitely would have liked that delved into more, but I was happy with the tidbits that we did receive. This book has many shocking twists that make everything make sense in the end.

Also, the side characters are fantastic and it would be awesome if there are books coming on them
