Forging Bonds - Part Two (Broken Ashes) Book 5

Rate this book
The tasks are getting more challenging, and the first one wasnt exactly easy. I can't say that they're not fun though.

We're all feeling hopeful that we're going to be able to get the necklace off Kylen and free Coen but getting it is going to be a challenge in itself.

I shouldn't be surprised when the Choosing starts behaving like it never has before, and we're left scrambling to figure out what it means.

And when the results are in, they send us reeling, giving us more questions than answers. Again.

This is a paranormal Reverse Harem.

Filler

I adore you Nikita, but you are doing it again. This review contains spoilers. After a rather abbreviated book 4, I was hopeful that we’d finally have some progress in book 5. And while we did, it was only filler and more questions. As I was reading, I definitely felt like this book was longer than book 4. However, it was an excruciating diatribe about the Choosing with no less than 5 new mysteries (spoiler alert: at least five of the new mysteries include Ribit and all her secrets, the unicorn, the council, the ring, and the portal to the unicorn. And that is just off the top of my head.). There were more but at book 5 some mysteries need to be coming to resolution instead of a book full of filler. What do I mean by that? After the first task in The Choosing, there is no one who shouldn’t have been able to have guessed the outcome of the Choosing. So why did it have to be so unbelievably drawn out? It honestly didn’t. I will say though that with all the complaining I just did, one of my favorite parts of the ending is what Coen did to Kylen. Too bad she added too many mysteries because who knows what is going to happen to Coen and that whole team since he killed Kylen despite him having items controlling other people. I know that was a massive run on sentence but I my brain is messed up after reading this. All the worrying about what would happen to Coen if they killed Kylen but absolutely no thought about what happened if Coen killed him instead. I the book 3 stars due to the feeling of this book being filler with more mysteries and negligible resolution. It would have been lower if I was not now so invested that I need to know what happens to Neith. I will give it one more book to see plot movement and some resolution before I give up on the series. I have only abandoned one other Nikita Parmenter series and this one WAS more engaging. But they can’t all be Finding My Home.

Great Book

This continues on inside the choosing. As I predicted, Coen was placed on Evanders team, but surprisingly, Kyreous was also placed on his team. The only known warrior that came out of the choosing multiple times without a team. Then of course Kylen decides to be a twat and shoots Neith in the back. No one saw? No one said anything? Not even Ed the reader of the scroll. Feels weird to me. Also, a smudge at the bottom of their names but it was described as nothing? I don’t think so.
I LOVED the scene where Neith saves the unicorn. I didn’t think it was a trial, as the portal felt different. She collects another rare supernatural creature as a friend and bonds with it. I just love how she rambles and talks out loud. Purposely and not purposely. I’m not a huge fan of the small talk, asking questions out loud, then saying, “good point”, or “that’s true”, it feels over done. Every chapter has had several of those. Also, they’re pointing out the obvious and then talking about it for a few pages. It bugs me that Neith realized that Coen was under a spell, by Kylen, but didn’t realize that about Dimitri. How he had good in him, and she still saw small glimpses of the old him before he turns into a massive a hole. I’m glad that Coen realized it. I’m Also glad that Coen also got to off his leader Kyren for everything he ever did to him, and made Coen do too. Thankfully the necklace broke. I also hope the ring broke for his group brother that was also being controlled by Kylen. There are So many secrets, and only so few answers. Thankfully we find out what Neith really is! I mean they realize it at the beginning but at the end, it becomes undeniable that she is her mother’s daughter! I wonder how Pete got across when he was stuck back in their old realm they all fled from. Can’t wait to read more!

The title of this review should be: Still Conflicted.

This is a joint review for Forging Bonds & Forging Bonds - Part Two (Broken Ashes) Book 5 with no spoilers. Part 2 specific details can be found in the review on book only.

I love the characters in the Broken Ashes series and get drawn into each book. However,I can’t help but be disappointed at the unnecessary split of Forging Bonds into two books. Having even one full book dedicated to The Choosing would have been a lot, but two full books were too much.

There was soooo much filler and inner monologue, with minimal story or character development. I also continue to find the odd phrasing (not even typical British English phrases) and copious typos to regularly pull me from the story.

Neith continues to be her entertaining and delightfully weird self, but her men could desperately benefit from some attention beyond the surface of their personalities. While it was somewhat predictable, I was glad to see Coen reunited with Neith and his rightful team, with him quickly getting his revenge on Kylan.

With two more books (as far as we know right now) to come in the series, I hope the storyline becomes the focus again and we start getting answers to many of the outstanding questions we and the team have.

I LOVE Neith

Wowwww what a book.
I was seriously thinking of waiting to read this book so I could read book 6 straight after but I'm glad I decided to go for it as it was wondering and I very much enjoyed it.

It wasn't left on a huge cliffhanger, more of a stepladder but I still would love to keep reading.

I don't want to give anything away but I'm glad we got the outcome to quite a couple of things I had hoped for in the last part of the book 😁

I loved that we got to see our beautiful water creatures 😍 and hope a certain someone/s get their own as we know we have at least 2 more members joining the team.

I will say say we get to see new creatures and meet a very lovely unicorn 🦄 who was very sweet and left Neith a gift????? WHAT DOES THE GIFT DO NIKITA?????

I hope that we can say goodbye to castle 🏰 and the guys who work their too. I also hope a certain ghost 👻 gets to leave with us if they want to because I can't think that Nikita would write and create such an interesting character just to lose them. It's not her way.
She is such a brilliant story teller and creates wonders through her works (I love all her books 📚) and with that comes characters that we all love and don't want to see an end to, so fingers crossed we get more.

Brilliant book (5) and am very much looking forward to next month.

Well done and thank you Nikita.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Good plot, HORRIBLY wordy

I keep reading the series because the plot is interesting but there is SO MUCH filler. Honestly, I think the book could be a third of the length it is with no change to the plot. It is getting obvious at this point that the author is padding the story for profit and it’s really disappointing. Every point of information is repeated at least two or three times and it makes it so difficult to read. I ended up having to do some skimming and skipping sections so that it would just get to the point.

Also, the “that’s a good point” and “that’s a good plan” and a dozen other phrases are repeated so often that it is driving me nuts. The characters don’t have to agree every time another character says something.

Additionally, I get that the FMC is supposed to be a rambler and go off on tangents, and that’s fine, but those tangents should NOT last multiple pages. I have had to go back and reread portions of the book to try to figure out what they were talking about before they went off topic way too many times.

This book gets 4 stars for plot (when there is plot…) and 1 star for writing and readability.

ramble ramble ramble and more rambling

The parts of this book that was actually relevant to the plot and story were good and I wanted to like it so badly because I loved the first two books.. but I think the author stretched this out for 6 books and this entire thing could’ve been a duet or a trilogy.. there’s just not enough “story” for 6 books. This entire book is still in “the Choosing” and each task is just the other team trying to harm her and she still rambles for 3 chapters how she hopes to not be put on the bad team. Even the castle ghost rambles and all the guys rambling inner monologue. Like this entire book could’ve been cut down to like 5 chapters and combined with book 4 and it would’ve probably made a lot more sense than whatever the heck this is supposed to be.

good

WARNING: this is not a standalone. It picks up from a cliffhanger, and ends on a fairly soft cliffhanger/bookhook. I rate this one about a 2/5 on the trauma scale considering everything else revealed.

Picking up from the last book, we find Neith and her crew, working to stay alive in the Choosing.
The challenges aren’t behaving quite as normal, and there is the danger posed by the Draconian team, but Neith is determined to make sure that she stays with Evander’s team.

Lots of revelations in this book, some bigger than others, though no doubt all important.
It’s a fairly fast paced story, with an ongoing plot and some rather intriguing events (particularly near the end). I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next in store for Neith and her found family!

Wow

The challange is pretty full on for Neith and her guys (I include Coen in this) and we learn a little more about the past and the control some members are under. Neith is still as sassy and weird as ever and her guys as protective as usual (heart eyes) I did enjoy Neiths interactions with Ribbit and can't wait to find out the meaning of Neiths tattoo after her run in with a mythical. The ending while a soft cliffhanger still leaves me impatient for the next book. So many questions. I am really enthralled with this series and Nikita Parmentar definitely knows how to capture a readers attention with her writing. Bring on the next book.

4*

I love this series, and cannot wait for the next book, but you have a scholar who loves research but knows nothing, all these hardcore supes who over think and a fmc who as badass as she is you want to hit over the head because she has no clue or common sense sometimes and then just rolls with everything come on get angry be mad at people just one time !!! the world building and explanations are over the top every other line is an explanation of what was said on the paragraph before it drives me nuts I really need the main characters to show their worth and badassery and the fmc to finally let loose in the end book

Wow I’m left utterly speechless again.

Neith & her men have come across more obstacles in this book. More trials and the Draconian team butting against them causes a lot of headaches for Neith & her team.

The progression of the story has been wild & it just keeps leaving me with more questions than answers.

I’m so curious to see what happens now that her supernatural side was revealed & more has been revealed between her team.

This author definitely has me hooked in a
& craving to know what happens next.

Amazing job!

Cliffhanger warning.

Forward progress was made in most areas. Of course since this book has ‘Part Two’ as part of the title, I hoped that the end would be a good place to pause.
Instead, it’s another cliffhanger.
The series is currently listed as 7 books and only 6 are available. Book 7 is currently scheduled for the summer of 2026, although there’s a note from the author saying that it will be out sooner. I’m going to check the book 6 reviews carefully. If that’s another cliffhanger, no matter how well written this book is, I may not read the next one.

This was not as good

Honestly, in its own this book feels like book 4.5. Some interesting things happen but none of it feels integral to the story. There's nothing that couldn't be summed up in the next book.

This book was short. And there weren't any real answers provided. If you don't have to pay close attention to know how The Choosing will end but no reason are given for all the strange things that happened.

This book felt like a waste of time.

I love this series, even with the two things that drive me crazy. I'm so sad I'm going to have to wait to read book 6. Our FMC is finally going places, and we've got one problem out of the way. Plus, the romance is starting to turn physical. I'm not going to read that crap, but I like that we're making progress. I think this should be labeled slow burn, but the story moves so fast it doesn't bother me. Happy reading!

Forging bonds part 2

Neith and her men are still in the choosing and things have happened that their really os no explanation for. Bit that is Neith for you if it's weird it's her. I loved some of the poetic justice at the end but of course I wished there was more to see. Can't wait for the next book

I really do enjoy the stories that this writer comes up with. She has an amazing brain. Good story I really enjoyed it.

But PLEASE, please, please, get an editor. The word mix ups, the dreadful grammar, none of this should still be an issue for a writer that is producing so many books. These books should not be being released with so many mistakes in them.

This was so good. The trials are a beast and Neith has to spend to much time with the aholes from Dragonian team. Minus Coen of course. There was never a dull moment and lots of reveals that the series has been building up too.
I know there’s lots more we still have yet to see from them but I’m loving these characters as much as Ever and the guys

The storyline is amazing but is overshadowed by the repetitiveness and lazy writing. Also, the rambling has become cumbersome. We get the fmc likes to ramble and go off on tangents, but please stop making the reader suffer along with her.

This series is super predictable but I love it anyways. I don’t know how they are wrapping everything up in one more book but I can’t wait till July 30th. I’m just waiting for her to be a phoenix instead of an angel. Calling it now.
