The the ‘Classic Text Series’ is the only of its kind selection of classic pieces of work that started off as bestseller and continues to be the bestseller even today. These classic texts have been designed so as to work as elementary textbooks which play a crucial role in building the concepts from scratch as in-depth knowledge of concepts is necessary for students preparing for various entrance examinations. This book on Problems in General Physics containingabout 1900 problems with hints for solving the most complicated ones has been designed for students studying advanced course in Physics. The book has been divided into six parts covering Physical Fundamentals of Mechanics, Thermodynamics & Molecular Physics, Electrodynamics, Oscillations & Waves, Optics and Atomic & Nuclear Physics, each segregated into number of chapters. Each chapter in the book opens with a time-saving summary of the principal formulas for the relevant area of physics. As a rule the formulas are given without detailed explanation. Explanatory notes are given in those cases where misunderstandings may arise. The author has used all formulas in the SI system, except in Part six where the Gaussian system has been used. Also the main physical constants and tables are summarized at the end of the book along with the Periodic System of Elements and Table of Elementary Particles also covered in the book. At the beginning of each chapter summary of principal formulas has been given for clarifying relevant basic concepts. At the end of each chapter, unsolved practice exercises have been provided to help aspirants revise the concepts discussed in the chapter. Answers and Solutions to the practice exercises have been given at the end after Part six. After the answers & solutions, appendices have also been provided for better comprehension of the concepts discussed in the book.Hope this book on Problems in General Physics from the Classic Text Series will help the readers get in-depth insight intothe various problems in general physics.

I used to have the one of the original translated prints of "Problems in General Physics" that I was extremely proud of! (I still have it back home) It was a beautiful hardbound published by Mir Publishers and translated into English (if I remember correctly) by Natalia Wadhwa.

This book has an amazing set of problems most of which need concepts from 3-4 different areas of Physics to solve, thus testing and developing your combinatorial creativity, which is in my humble opinion the mainstay of the creative process. This book changed the way I thought about problem solving! Often some questions would take a day or two to solve and when finally solved would give such a kick that I was always wanting to solve more. However I could not finish the last couple of sections of the book. There are in fact some questions in Irodov that have become the source of legendary geek jokes (like the famous joke about a professor trying to fool a judge and a policeman by using Doppler Effect Physics to claim that he did not jump the red signal and saw it as green, infact originated as a question in Irodov).

Although I used it exactly ten years ago, once in a while I dream of re-reading Feynman Lectures in Physics Vols I and II and take a shot at Irodov again, just to see if the book was really that difficult or if ten years of supposed progress in thinking would have made it easier to solve those problems now. If not, it would certainly test a lot of my brain circuitry in all the right ways!

If you are at the high school level, are ambitious and want a set of tough problems in Physics, then Irodov should be your book of choice!

If it's by a Russian author, you know it's gonna be good. And hard!
Mandatory book of problems for my General physics classes. I've used many other books of problems, but this one takes the cake (in a good way!). If I knew how to solve Irodov, I was certain I would pass the exam.

Problems in General Physics book contains all the theory of the other books and provides students with the foundations of Physics. Students with this major will be expected to learn a little about each topics. This book leaves students with an appreciation of the physics of everything and gives them a knowledge of theoretical physics, which tends to be more math - based, and also gives students a foothold into the world of research.

Really .. brain wrecking sums in Physics. .. easily avoidable but immensely fun when succeeding with solutions.

Extremely useful. Contains a wide range of problems from easily trivial to complex thought provoking ones. I enjoyed the language of the problems too which is easily distinguishable from any other text. One can play around with these problems and make some adjustments to see the beauty of the subject too. I loved playing around with some insight inspiring problems in a creative way which made my ideas more clear.

A classic in High School physics problems. It has more than 500 problems, with moderate to extremely hard difficulty, spanning all categories in high school physics. The book is also suitable for any college students, who wants to sharpen his or her problem-solving skill.
