Jessica Frost is an award-winning architect running one of the most successful companies in the UK. Decisive and commanding, she has high standards for those whom she employs. Designing buildings that reshape skylines is what she’s known for, but now she wants to make more of a meaningful difference to people’s lives.
When Jessica asks Rosie Patterson – warm, passionate and looking to get promoted – to lead on a post-industrial waterfront regeneration in Jessica’s hometown, Rosie is beyond excited as this is her big opportunity to advance her career. But Rosie isn’t sure she has what it takes and she’s harbouring a secret crush on Jessica.
As Jessica and Rosie work closer together, they must test the limits of their abilities to see the project through and navigate the growing connection between them.
Slow burn but timing was perfect even though mid way I may have complained about lack of spice 😅 when you read through and got up to the spicy parts I will say they were worth the wait. If you ever fantasized about a work romance or that’s your thing this book is for you. Not necessarily my type of thing but this was still enjoyable to read definitely a cute quick sapphic read. Perfect amount of spice and sentimental moments
Wow!! What a beautiful story! This is so well written. The characters are all perfect. There is angst but not the world is ending terror. It was so lovely to watch Jessica and Rosie evolution and growth throughout the story. And even Rich and Marco's evolution too. So beautiful! Cannot love this book enough! Needless to say, I'll be reading more of Lisa Elliot's book now!!!
I really enjoyed this story. It had surprising insight into being an architect. I love organically learning about a new career/job as I read. I also appreciated that there were no men anywhere trying to take up space. This was Jessica and Rosie’s story all the way through.
The only thing I struggled with was Jessica’s reluctance to share I also loved that there wasn’t a typical breakup arc. it never felt like drama for drama’s sake. which made the relationship feel mature and worth rooting for.
Jessica Frost is the CEO of a successful London architectural firm. Rosie Paterson is an architect working at JKF Frost's firm. Rosie gets to work on a new project with Jessica. The perfect ice queen and the unsure Rosie discover the differences between them are not that significant. If you like a slow burn, ice queen romance, along with an interesting story line, you'll enjoy this book.
4/5 - sapphic, contemporary, ice queen, boss/employee. Enjoyable romance with lots of architecture and art talk. I hadn’t read a romance that went into the world of architects before, so I really liked seeing that unique setting here. The romance was enjoyable and I believed in the chemistry between both MCs, and I was pretty happy with the level of conflict here as well (it didn’t feel too drawn out). Overall, a solid romance!
I did enjoy this one, especially as a Scot from Glasgow, that big crane does exist, it's a tale of a woman leaving home as a girl neglected by her parents and returning as a successful architect who has built high wall around her emotions. Rosie a younger ambitious colleague has always lusted after her boss and now has a chance to work together, it holds your interest and the romance is certainly 🔥 very enjoyable.
Sometimes It Pays To Go After What You Want, What You Need!
Lisa Elliot is becoming a leader in the sapphic community with her heartwarming and passionate stories that are inspiring and encouraging. This book hit all those marks. I love the chemistry between Jessica & Rosie. The story gives a glimpse into the architecture world. JF Architecture led by Jessica Frost has become the top in their field. But Jessica decides to take on an urban project which is part of her hometown but only a few know about this. Putting Rosie in charge of the project, her first big step was an attempt to prove to Jessica and the rest that she could handle it. With both of these women working together on the project, Rosie gets to see into Jessica, to discover whats inside. Rosie has been in love with Jessica since she came to work there. Her idol. But as the two get to know each other both realize there is so much more than what is on the surface. A bond that connects. When they reach a point where sabotage and then a smear campaign against them could stall the project, Rosie forces Jessica to face some truths that could help get the project back to them. This was a feel good story that has two women with their crew both facing things about themselves to achieve their own goals including love. Loved It!
A simple love story is what this book is about. Oh there are complications galore, thats what make a good story great and this one has it in spades. Jessica and Rosie are the principal parts of the story and their love affair and potential HEA are the focus of the book. Two architects (one working for the other at a highly prestigious firm) is the glue that brings these ladies together but their natural chemistry gradually leads to more and more interaction between them and as they grow with each others help they become first friends and then lovers. The intense feelings are spotlighted in the alternating chapter POVs that allow us inside our protagonists minds and hearts. The twists and ups and downs of the story keep it interesting along the way and you feel for the ladies as they cope with what life has thrown at them. I can not recommend this book enough if you want to enjoy a fresh and lively look at love between two souls made for each other.
When Jessica, founder of JF Architecture, wins another award for an outstanding feature in London, she just can't seem to celebrate that success. In fact, she feels somewhat unfulfilled. That's when she decides to take on the redevelopment project in her home town to honor the generations that came before. She appoints one of her architects, Rosie, to lead the project. Unbeknownst to her, Rosie has been in love with her since she began working there. She jumps at the chance to prove herself worthy of this big opportunity and a chance to work closely with Jess. As the two work together, they find out the back stories of each other's lives and the relationship progresses into a beautiful and supportive love story.
The writing is wonderful, the plot is very interesting, and the characters are terrific. I really enjoyed this story!!!
I've read a lot of third act declarations of love, but this is the first one to involve a Powerpoint presentation. I just need to find a smutty office romance where the declaration is done through an Excel spreadsheet now
it was a sweet story, I particularly enjoyed the parts about Jessica reconnecting with her home town. I'm really on a roll with these grounded 'everyone is sensible and communicates well' romances, no crazy nonsense drama
okay I do kinda miss the crazy nonsense drama
but this book has a lot going for it, including a lot of emotive architecture talk, a reasonable level of spice, and a bit of heft to it. it's probably all the Haley Cass I've been reading but I love a romance novel that comfortably clears 300 pages
Jessica Frost and Rosie have a unfortunate run in at the architecture awards, but Rosie figures her boss won't care too much. Until Rosie finds herself on a job with her.
Rosie has had a crush on Jessica forever, but actually working together is less fun, as the woman is a micromanager. Rosie pushes back, getting her respect, but as the project continues she realizes there's other stuff going on....
Loved it, great. Ice Queen-ish boss and office romance. Spilled into backdrop of 2 professional women working on regeneration project in Scotland. I liked the attention to detail. Great leading characters. An MP brought some drama (no surprise) I could have done with a wee bit more drama personally. All in all great love story with unusual and interesting backdrop, was kinda sad it ended and wouldnt mind seeing another story about these two.
Not only was this a nice love story but the background for the project they were working on was very interesting. There are so many areas that could benefit from this type of redevelopment. Just made the book more interesting. The characters were well developed, dialogue good. Think you’d enjoy this book.
How to build the foundation of strong love is aptly surveyed here.
Lisa Elliot dragged me kicking and screaming with laughter, tears and groans as the ice queen melted and the building of an incredible story was made from the ruins of a lifetime of pain and hurt. Bonds formed with tenderness turn out to be as strong as steel. This is a great story!
Wonderful main characters and a very good back story. An ice queen boss melts for one of her employees, which is a no-no for her. As they work closely together on the design and build out of a new city park, their love takes hold. I highly recommend this book.
Nice enough story, likeable characters, interesting if you're into architecture. Maybe I am getting to used to great/exceptional writing, but this I found poorly written. The conversations were very pedestrian for women of that calibre.
Such a good slow burn, loved the chemistry between the two characters. Only downside was the author built up such a dominant sexual fantasy with the MCs that never really materialized. The spicy scenes were good, just wish we could have gotten the one Rosie dreamed so much about!
This book was so sweet. I fell a little bit for Jessica. Such a strong and loving person. I love the relationship between Jess and Rosie. They make each other better. Amazing work.
