My Colby McKay

My Channing Kinkaid

Channing ran all the way from her boring & predictable future and joined up with Colby and his crew - Trevor & Edgar. As part of her tagging along she agrees to do whatever the 3 cowboys tell her to... IN BED!

And boy is she a good follower! Channing is up for anything and with whomever happens to stroll into the trailer but the more her sexual exploration continues the more Channing and Colby are pulled together and farther away from Trevor and Edgar. However, Trevor and Edgar have a secret... that will be explored more in book 5!

It is an amazingly hot book and grab it and your bf/husband/bob and have some fun!

3.5 Smokin Hot stars!!!

One girl from the city exploring her sexual fantasies and three hot as hell cowboys helping her do just that. Yeah. This book is every bit as steamy and sexy as it sounds! It was a quick read and one of the HOTTEST books I’ve read all year. From beginning to end. Word to the wise- if you don’t love m/f/m or a little m/m this might not be for you. But if you love a fun book with loads of smutty goodness along with a some emotion and an actual story, you’ve found the right read!

Channing Kinkaid wants an adventure. Her first experience with a cowboy didn’t go all that well… but then she met Colby McKay. He’s a bull rider who travels with his two other cowboy friends/ropers. He invites her to travel along for the week. The catch is she’ll not only be with Colby, but his friends too. Channing is more than up for the challenge. She’s been dying to let loose and explore this side of herself.

There’s a lot of sex. I mean A LOT of sex. All kinds of sex and it’s HOT sex. I especially loved the threesome scenes- some of the best I’ve read… But really, there is a story. It’s not only sex with nothing else. I loved Colby and Channings story. Seeing their relationship grow from just the sex to so much more is always a great thing. The side story with Trevor and Edgard was nice too. I’m interested to see how their story plays out along the line.

Overall I enjoyed this book. It was smoking hot and highly entertaining. I’ll for sure be picking up more from this author/series down the line when I’m in the mood for some heat!

5 stars - Contemporary/Western Romance/Erotica/BDSM/Ménage

HOLY COWBOY!!!! There's not much else to add that hasn't already been said in lots of other reviews, so I'll just advise having a cold beverage and fan handy before reading this one! WOWZA!!

Three sexy-as-sin cowboys, a feisty, smart, headstrong, likable citygirl/cowgirl-wanna-be, a nice story, good writing, and lots and lots of steamy sex, including light bondage, D/s, ménage, and some hot cowboy man-lovin'...yummy...what's not to love?

I didn't like it. It is impersonal, cold and poorly done.

The dialogues were hard to read; very dumb, very very bad.

I have always enjoyed reading about ménage, but there is nothing sexy, enticing, erotic or romantic here, this book is just like watching porn. I don't mean that it has too much sex, no, I mean that the sex they have in the book is as emotionally connected and meaningful as the sex in a porno.

We know very little about the main characters, nothing of importance or deep enough to be able to make a connection with them, to care about their story. What I did learn about the characters by how they acted as I read, I disliked. I not only disliked it, but also it frustrated me since it was in complete opposition with what we were told their personalities were like.
What the characters were thinking was often not in accordance with how they acted.
She is described as a cultivated city girl, with little sex experience and shy. However, she acts and speaks as a girl with a low cultural background, ready to jump into bed with the first guy (well, guys really) that crosses her path five minutes after dumping her boyfriend. I don't mind what cultural background she has, but I do care in consistency, and there is none here. She is in no way shy, no matter how many times we are told that she is, she is not cultivated and she doesn't seem sexually inexperienced.
It pains me to say this, but the set of circumstances in which the ménage and sex happened makes her look like a loose girl.

I enjoy reading about sex, ménage, BDSM, M/M and much more, but I am not interested in reading porn. I need MEANINGFULNESS, I want love.

I confess I am very surprised about all the good ratings this book has, there are plenty other books out there with the same elements as this one, but better written and with more depth.
This is definitely my first and last book written by this writer.

If you're looking for a good erotic romance that actually has a plot, this book is it! I just really enjoyed this one! Lorelei James is a really good writer; she definitely has a knack for telling a story. While this book is sometimes explicit in language (lots of 'dirty talk' between the H/H)and certainly has a lot of extremely erotic moments, that's not all there is to it. There's actually a pretty good story going on, too.

Basically, Channing (the heroine), wants to have one last act of rebellion before she settles down to the 'responsible' life her parents and everyone else expect of her. Channing has never felt like she belongs; she's lonely, looking for something to complete her but she doesn't realize what it is.

Enter Colby, a sexy cowboy competing in the rodeo circuit. When Channing and Colby meet, sparks fly, and it's not long before Channing takes Colby up on a proposition to spend a week with him AND his two rodeo buddies, exploring all her sexual fantasies (and they are pretty hot fantasies, and not for the faint of heart!) But neither Channing or Colby expect to lose their hearts in the process...

This book is very erotic; however, unlike a lot of erotica, it's not page after page of sexual encounters. The author spends a lot of time developing the story; I found myself really caring about all of the characters, and actually learned a lot about the rodeo life. I could also feel the love blooming between the H/H. It even had me tearing up at the ending. This was just a very satisfying read for me, one I have no problem recommending!

A small warning: this book does have a couple menage scenes, and actually has a M/M encounter. While these aren't something I particularly like to read about, in no way did I think these scenes were gratuitous--they were scenes that were important to plot development. So if you can get past that...enjoy!

This is a hard call—3 stars or 3.5? Well 3 for the high raunch factor and 3.5 or even 4 for the writing.

I didn't particularly like this story because the hero, Colby, was such an ass and the sex was too "rough" for my taste--and there's LOTS of sex here (twosomes, threesomes, partner sharing, oral, anal, m/m, backwards, forwards, upside down, right side up you name it it’s there!) but there is a good plot and James writes very well which is why it won't get put on my "books-with-cooties" shelf ;) To me the sex was meant to hurt too many times and there were too many power trips by the hero which bugged me. You really get the feel of the rodeo circuit though and you can nearly hear everyone talking in that cowboy drawl :D

If you've read Maya Banks' COLTERS' WOMAN, Lora Leigh's NAUTI BOY or even Rhyannon Byrd's AGAINST THE WALL that's the kind of sometimes seedy sex you'll find more or less but a bit more often and sometimes more crass but it is well written (unlike the others IMO) it’s just that the hero ruins it all because he’s a control freak and one mean bastard. He never once apologizes like a normal person either. I can’t believe that the heroine took all his crap. All that was missing was him actually beating on her at times I thought. The other characters are nice enough and there’s a really sad story with the gay lovers that sort of gets you but Cowboy Colby fell off his horse one too many times to be redeemable.

Though the ending will make you smile you still sort of wish the heroine would’ve at least turned around on him once and said “Just bite me Colby!” –and it’d have been so well-deserved!

It was free so I tried it… ugh.

I don’t mind reading chick porn, have even enjoyed some smut a time or two, but I’ve noticed some stories are difficult to disassociate with the author and feel more like I’m reading someone else’s fantasy (which of course- I am!) and, for some reason, when I am consciously aware of that fact, it makes me feel… well, creepy. This was one of those kinds of books.

There was actually a story in Cowgirl Pony Up- erm I mean Long Hard Ride ::eyeroll::- but mostly it’s just Cowgirl gets to play out her ménage fantasies with three super hot cowboys who just lurrrrrve her like she’s the best thing since someone made the first ice cream sundae- but unfortunately it felt like I was reading a Texas college girl’s dirty diary.

I know this is weird but it really bothered me that it felt unrealistic- I know, I know it’s smut, course it’s unrealistic- but for it to work for me I cant be saying “WHATEVER” every few words- which I was- and I gotta buy that all 4 of them would actually submit themselves to this kinda thing all the while saying- "sure you have your turn, I love her but I'm cool with it"- which I didn’t.

Sure the author tried to create a struggle with the one character who obviously carries a torch for one of the other cowboys, but the ease with which the female lead walked into the relationship was just too, well, easy and I wasnt buying it.

I know it’s a popular series so maybe it gets better, but I’m thinking for me? Not so much.

Of course you have to take this review with a grain of salt- I didn’t finish it.

SOOOO,....this book has been on my TBR pile forever!! I have always seen hot status updates for it but had never made the time to start the series. After a rather colorful conversation with Lkay, she convinced Vika and I we needed to start on the series now. Boy, I wasn't disappointed.

"Nuh-uh, shug. I like my women wet. Really wet. I like it when they get that wetness all over me. All over my fingers. All over my face. All over my-"

"Colby McKay!!"

"Come on dance with me. Let's see if we can't spread that wetness around a little."

Channing has left her life in Boston to find herself. She's always felt like she was being someone she wasn't or just blending in. Her family is basically planning her life for her, so she ran away with the rodeo. After being with Jarred for a while, they're out one night after a rodeo when the very Colby McKay swoops her up for a dance. He keeps making cryptic comments about Jarred and making it obvious he wants a piece of Channing himself.

Channing sooner rather than later finds out Jarred's secret. Colby swoops in to save the day, but with conditions. Colby has been wanting Channing from the first time he saw her. Now's his chance, however him and his traveling buddies always share their women. So this will be no different. Channing will get to live out all of her sexual fantasies with all three guys and they will help her out.

My Colby

"Darlin' you are amazingly sexy all the time, but in the morning especially. If we were home at the ranch I'd never get up on time to get my chores done."

This book was so beyond hot. Holy crap. From threesomes, to Channing getting to sit in the corner and watch another couple, to blindfolds, and deals being struck that leave both beyond breathless. haha, I can't give everything away. :) I have no other words other than SMOKING HOT!! However after a while feelings start to form, friendships are made and fun for a week turns into more.

One reason, I think, I was hesitant on starting the series is the fact I used to rodeo and I wasn't for sure how it would be betrayed. I will say the author did a very good job at explaining everything about what was going on with the rodeo and how rodeo life can be. I will say what a relief that was for me. I grew up with this sport I kind of couldn't help the worry but it really wasn't necessary. I never had the same experiences that Channing did with the three hot guys servicing her, or two anyway, but the rest of the rodeo stuff was all pretty accurate.

Overall, this was a great read. Really hot, great characters, awesome storyline, and a big happily ever after. I can't wait to continue on with the series. I'm addicted, big time. :)

Opening Line: "On a drunken dare after too many kamikazes, Channing Kinkaid found herself standing on a shellacked bartop while a bartender named Moose sprayed her chest with ice-cold beer."

AND I’M OFF TO THE RODEO…
Yeehaw, what a great read, now I know what all the fuss is about. Based on good reviews and my love of cowboys in general I just had to give this series a try and wow am I ever glad I did. LONG HARD RIDE is all kinds-of-ways hot and sexy lovin but it’s also so much more. Between the erotic interludes theres an actual story and a whole cast of characters that I became invested with and in the end really cared about. All with relatable issues, deep emotions and yeah theres even a touching love story (or 3) to boot. Theres also several subplots going on here that got me so hooked I’ve since ordered the entire Roughriders series because I just have to know how things turn out for everybody.

So if you like hot alpha male cowboys and have a (secret) dream about hitting the rodeo circuit with a trio of your very own then I highly recommend joining the Roughriders family for a little ridin, ropin, chaps and spurs wearin western adventure. Giddy-up cowgirls.

Channing Kinkaid wants an adventure that she’ll remember for a lifetime she also wants to shed her sexual inhibitions and embrace a steamier, multi-partnered lifestyle. What better way to fulfill her fantasies than hooking up with Colby, Trevor, and Edgard. Three rowdy, bull riding, calf roping and bronco busting cowboys who are more than willing to take Channing on as their personal “buckle bunny” while they travel the rodeo circuit. However she has to play by their rules and Colby’s demands for complete submission are beginning to test her heart as much as her will. Of course everything is not always as it seems with this sexy threesome and when cowboys get injured and friends become lovers you better turn on that sad country music and hang on for the full 8 seconds because this is going to be quite the ride.

Just about anything goes here sexually speaking including light bondage, ménage a cowboy, partner sharing, partner swapping, oral, anal and some fine M/M lovin. Cheers

4.5 Sizzling, scorching, panty melting stars!

If you're put-off by a book with a lot of sex scenes, this book is NOT for you. Channing Kinkaid meets up with Colby McKay on the rodeo circuit. She's a daughter to wealthy parents who seem to have a totally different idea in life for her than what she wants...so she rebells and decides to follow the rodeo for a while. She's immediately attracted to the no -roots, traveling, exciting life of the rodeo. Colby is known to be a hot cowboy all the girls want to saddle (sorry, couldn't resist the pun). He's also known to participate in a shared sexual lifestyle with his fellow rodeo pals Trevor and Edgard. Channing is intrigued by their bedroom reputation and agrees to stay with the three guys for a week of no-holds-barred sexual exploits. What she didn't plan for is her feelings to grow for Colby so quickly. Colby hasn't ever had issues sharing his girls....until Channing.

Woah, this book is hot. The scenes are really well drawn out and I loved the side drama with Edgard and Trevor. I hope their story continues.....

Warning- explicit sexual scenes, menage (M/M, M/MF) anal.

Loved it.... Mainly because it had a decent story. Some of these books I get kinda bored with the constant "banging" but the love story of these two kept me interested. I was also intrigued with the life of the rodeo. I have literally zero knowledge of ranching or rodeo life. The twang and "ain't" lingo took a bit of getting used to as slang usually isn't my Midwest US girl thing....but I warmed up right quick to these cowboys. Yummy! I look forward to seeing more of these characters throughout the Rough Riders series.

You know, I don't even know what to say about this book. For those of you who have seen my status updates, you know how thoroughly pissed, how thoroughly frustrated I was throughout much of this book. Having read to the end, though, I'm feeling rather ambivalent towards it (although I know I'm leaning more towards the negative side).

This book started out really good for me; I mean, hell, who hasn't fantasized about having multiple cowboys on hand to fuck whenever you want? So yeah, that was great. To a point. By about page 108, I was getting sick of the constant ménage. Now, I don't mind threesomes in books. Most of the time. Sometimes I even prefer them over the other sex. But this one just became obnoxious. And that probably has to do with the fact that I absolutely cannot stand when there is a threesome throughout the whole book (which leads me to believe that I am going to utterly despise Trevor, Edgard, and Chassie's book).

But, okay, so I hated the threesome. Moving on. It could get better from there, right? And it was good. For a little while. By about page 190, I was beginning to get pissed off with all the characters (which is quite evident from my progressively worse status updates). I hated them all (with the exception of a few people). To the point that I wanted to just go around punching people. You know it's bad when a book has you in a constant state of violence.

Okay, sweet, so I'm thoroughly pissed with the whole thing. Then, Colby gets hurt. He's in the hospital. And Channing leaves after whispering things to his unconscious body (little does she know that he's awake). She couldn't even wait until he fucking woke up to tell him she was leaving? I guess it's better than the plan she had made to leave without even seeing him. Thank you, Gemma, for saving me from that travesty.

Finally, Colby is home from the hospital and is, of course, just like every man who has his pride; he can't stand the thought of his mom and sister helping him, he hates that he can't help his father and brothers on the ranch, etc. Then he finds out from Gemma that Channing has been on her ranch for six weeks and, seeing as Gemma lives two hours away, he races over there. Colby and Channing finally have their moment and say just how much they love each other and will she marry him and blah blah blah. It was sweet, don't get me wrong. And this moment at the end, along with the few characters I actually did like, saved this book from being rated two stars. Finally, we are at the end of the book.

Ahhhh, bliss. I am inexplicably ecstatic to be finished with this book. The thing is, I really hate that I disliked this book so much. This is the second Rough Riders book I've read and I really enjoyed Branded As Trouble when I read it. So I was hoping to like this one just as much. Imagine my chagrin to realize that I wanted to strangle people because of how crazy this book made me. There are very few books I have had such a fierce dislike for and I am sad to add this one to the list. That being said, however, I will definitely be continuing with the series. I hear that it gets better after book two and, because I really did like BAT, I still hold out hope that the rest of the series will utterly enchant me.

There were, however, a few things that I actually did like about this book. Like I said above, I thought the ending was very sweet and, while it couldn't cancel out all the frustration I felt, it went a ways in melting me a little bit. But only a little bit.

I also liked a couple of the characters: Keely, Gemma, and Cash. These three were the only characters I didn't want to constantly bash in the head with a blunt object. (See?! I want to cause blunt force trauma to the head to people! There is something very wrong when that happens when I read a book.) Keely was cute and I can't wait to get to her book; hell, I'd like to read more about her in the other books because I remember her making a few appearances in Branded As Trouble. I liked Gemma; she was a strong female character and I look forward to her future interactions with Cash. Cash was funny and a good friend to them all, and like I said, I look forward to future interactions between him and Gemma.

Overall, I suppose this book wasn't utterly horrible because there were a few things that I liked about it, but it's definitely not going to go on my "OMG, I will reread this a million times list." Wish me luck as I begin Rode Hard, Put Up Wet.

I take back what I said about liking cowboys...

After hearing great things about this series, I was excited to read about sexy dirty cowboys. But after reading the first 100 pages, I found it very, very hard to finish this book.

First off, Channing can do better than these guys. I thought she was a pretty cool chick. I kept mistaking Channing for a guy because of her damn name! CHANNING TATUM kept popping into my head. But that’s my fault, not James’.

Now on to the cowboys...

Colby McKay is a douche! I will admit out of the three guys, he was the best of them but that’s not really a compliment. He thought of himself too highly and I secretly wished he’d fall off his horse or something during one of his rodeo runs or get trampled by a bull and just DIE!!! There was nothing to make me like him apart from his hard cock. And I guess that’s really the only qualifying criteria to be the main character in an erotica novel. But not enough for me as a reader to forgive the fact that he’s such a fucking asshole to Channing.

Then there’s twiddledumb and twiddledo – Edgard and Trevor, Colby’s fuck buddies and partners in crime.

Twiddledumb (Edgard) just seemed oblivious to everything, lost in his own world (though I liked him the best out of the three), while Twiddledo (Trev) was Colby’s little bitch the entire time, following his commands like a little puppy. And I hope one day he grows the balls to forget what others think of him and just simply live his life the way he wishes to live it. I had a really hard time caring of any of the characters in this book. In fact, I found that the secondary characters to be much more interesting than the foursome. Gemma, Cash, and Keely were the only thing that got me through this.

All the rodeo antics just weren’t engaging enough for me. I found myself skimming those parts. The dialogue was okay, but nothing worth rereading. And the rest of the plot was boring or practically nonexistent. Call me crazy, but some other erotica novels I’ve read that were 40 pages long had more plot development than this 200+ page book. Long Hard Ride really lost its appeal after they all had sex for the sixth time.

Speaking of sex, there was a lot it as is expected in an erotica romance novel. It was HOT and dirty and sweaty and plenty of riding in this one! So if you strictly prefer reading only about sex and don’t care about characters, plot or dialogue then maybe this one is just what you need. I’ll even tab all the sex scenes and you can just read those pages.

Because I am such an ass about finishing series, I will read Rode Hard, Put Up Wet. I hope to God that it gets better from here. It’s about Gemma and Cash, so I’m a bit more optimistic about it! I hope to hell I’m right!

I just don't care for it, and I've been trying to pinpoint my problem with this story.

I've been reading it off and on for weeks now, and it's just not holding my interest. My biggest problem is the dialogue. In an attempt to sound country, the characters come off sounding mildly retarded. It's irritating and distracting.

Also, I can't get behind the: "I share my women with my friends" scenario. I don't mind menage or quatre scenes (like them and fanatasize about them even), but I do mind when the scenario is treated lightly and like "this is what we do with all our women" sort of thing. It's disrespectful.

Nevertheless, the writing isn't horrible. Since I already purchased the next story in the series, I'll give James another try. I'm done with this story, but I think the writer has potential for me...

Hot love scenes. Sexy as sin cowboy hero. Sweet romance. Nice heroine who was fun. Oh yeah, and a temporary menage. Hero and heroine ride off into the sunset together - alone.

Okay, I really enjoyed this book. The love scenes were hot and the story was good - I really felt like I was riding the rodeo circuit with them. Colby was one hot, sexy cowboy! He can call me "sug" anyday. I enjoyed reading this, the story was well-written, the cowboys were authentic and sexy and the love scenes were smoking!

What a pleasant surprise this book was! I wasn’t exactly sure at first if I could stick it out, but I’m so glad I did. There were things that I was looking for to change in Colby and Channing..low and behold it did!! I’m just in love with them. Beautiful, perfect ending. I absolutely love this quote from Colby..

“I love you Channing Kinkaid. You make me the luckiest, happiest man in the world. Life on the ranch ain’t always gonna be rainbows and butterflies and the heart-poundin’ excitement of rodeo, but dammit, it will be our life. I’ll spend every wakin’ hour makin’ sure our life together fulfills your every fantasy.”

What a hot read! This book has a little bit of everything for everyone. There's oral sex, vaginal sex, anal sex, hetero sex, homo sex, bondage sex, menage sex...did I mention the sex?

Channing is a blueblood from Boston who has never felt like she fit in. She's always done just what her cold, socially correct parents have told her, they've pretty much run her life til now. She decides to have a summer fling before she settles down to a socially correct job with a socially correct suitor who will be chosen by her parents. She ends up hooking up with a rodeo cowboy...only to find out he's married! So when Colby and his two rodeo pals offer her a sexcapades road trip on the rodeo circuit, she decides to take them ALL up on their offer.

There's been some criticism of the uber-Alpha Colby and his schitzo treatment of Channing. I admit that I would NEVER accept the kind of treatment Colby sometimes dished out to Channing. But hey, Channing's an adult and could make her own decisions and she never said stop. So, I enjoyed the book for what it is and look forward to reading the next in this delicious erotic series.

So, I settled in to read my first cowboy erotic novel. Oh, the possibilities! I had heard great things about this series so I was prepared to be wowed.

Well, I wasn't. Maybe it's me. Well, actually, it is me. I like a story line along with my sexy novels. I know it is possible. I have seen it done quite well.

This novel has a lot of sex. All kinds of sex. It kind of goes like this:
audition sex, sex, more sex, all different kinds of sex, m/m sex, a story line (finally!), "I think I love him, even though I've known him for a week and I've shared him with his friends," separation, and make up sex.
Whew!

To be fair, I felt that a story line did begin about 2/3 the way through. I did enjoy that part of the book much more than the beginning.

When I finished reading Long Hard Ride, I knew this would be a difficult review to write. We all have varied tastes in what kind of hero we like. What kind of romantica we prefer and so on. I am not going to get into the storyline much. It has been described so well by Auntee and Laura, so there is no reason to really get into it in detail.
What I will give is my opinion of the hero-Colby and the heroine's-Channing relationship.

First, let me say that I am used to being surrounded by cowboys. My family raised cattle for YEARS. My great grandfather's brother was a deputy for Judge Parker- the famous hanging judge in Fort Smith. We no longer have the farm, or do the backbreaking work than my family once did, but the heart of a cowboy is just the same. Cowboys can be gentlemen, but most of the time they ARE very tough men. They are super Alpha, they often put their foot in their mouth...especially towards women, but when pust comes to shove they are steady, strong, loveable flawed men that is often irresistable.

It's true that Colby is definately rough around the edges. He is a tough talking, hard playing, rough ridin' (in more ways than one) cowboy. It simply isn't in him to send flowers or to whisper sweet nothings in your ear. BUT, I still found him quite interesting in a rough around the edges sort of way. He does have some sweet pillow talk with Channing. He does show his concern and affection to her that I thought was true to his character. I didn't find him abusive. I basically liked him and I liked him and Channing together...they simply fit together. I am not saying there were times I didn't want to strangle him. I DID NOT like him much at first, but I thought his character development throughout the novel, as well as his feelings and affection for Channing was well thought out and I enjoyed seeing him change.

Channing doesn't take Colby's B.S. lying down. She gives as much as she gets. She wouldn't fit with anyone BUT Colby in my opinion. I thought that they were great together.

I think it is all about perspective. I loved this book. I plan on buying my own copy. I found Channing and Colby fun to read about. I didnt' know what to expect and they ended up giving me a great reading experience. They may not be for everyone. We are all different and what I like someone else may hate. That is why I love this site...we are honest with each other and don't suger coat everything we read. Laura is right in many ways and I certainly understand why she would not like him. I on the other hand, ended up really liking him and Channing. It's all about our lives and what we have experienced...don't you think?

East, I think you and everyone else should give this book a shot. I loved it. I thought the storyline was well thought out and I ended up liking all of the characters.

There is some M/M interaction (not with hero) and a couple of menage scenes, so if you are offended by DIRTY (MANY) words and super hot sex, well this book is NOT for you.

I hope this helped. I am anxious to see what y'alls thoughts are going to be on this one.

If I had known of the true cowboy way of life, I would have dropped out of school at the age of thirteen, sold my soul to Satan for a saddle, and ridden horses until my thighs ached and my lower back was nearly split in two. This novel had it all: blazing bodies; sensual, three-dimensional sex kittens; measurements that would make a stripper envious; free love and free sex for all; bowling ball breasts; an ass that could bounce a toothpick; a beer wet t-shirt contest, where Channing Kinkaid offered up the size of her rack for your reading pleasure; women who could win, place, and show in the Cocksucking Derby, with blowjobs being handed out like they’re passing out sugar cubes to six year olds. I felt like I was partying with a bunch of twenty-one year old boy band groupies who had just been eradicated from the convent. Note to self, don’t read Lorelei James right before bed. I was so wired I could have run a marathon in the pouring rain in the middle of the night.

But what bumped this read to the top of my Kindle queue faster than an eight second ride was Karen’s review of RODE HARD, PUT UP WET. Any book that stirs up the equivalent of emotional vodka, whether it’s of the positive or negative variety, is worth reading in my opinion. Instead of forgetting this novel five minutes after I’d read it, or being disgusted by it, I felt like I was reading Penthouse Letters in the middle of the night via a reading lamp. Even more than that, though, this felt like erotica with heart, since there was an actual story, not the most rock solid affair, mind you, but there was the equivalent of relationship building and some team bonding. I should also add that I’ll never look at a rope the same way again.

LONG HARD RIDE pretty much exhausted every male fantasy I’d ever had (other than the ménage a trois with two women along with yours truly). I didn’t have any giant expectations going into this read, other than some mind porn in exchange for a few hours of my time, and because I didn’t expect too much, I was certainly happy with the end result. Let me just say that Ms. James can write a sex scene. It played out in my mind in Technicolor with asses hanging from rafters and tits bouncing around like five year olds on a trampoline. Nuclear reactors exploding would have made less noise and caused less damage than the cumulative result of some of her sex scenes. And the sheer amount of manhood contained in these pages could power a boy band for an entire century. Not that I’m complaining about all the exploits, mind you. With bodies humping harder and faster than a Rottweiler hopped up on amphetamines, what’s not to love?

If you just go along for the ride, you’ll find yourself with a full heart and a broken bed, possibly a broken table or two, a banged up horse trailer, and possibly gouged by a bull, but even then, it might still be worth it.

That was a helluva hot read! Three strapping cowboys and a city girl with a fantasies she didn't even know existed.

It's a steamy, adult romance and it isn't going to change your life or make your heart palpitate. But if you want hot and raunchy right off the bat, you've got it.

"Come with me right now. Don't ask questions and don't argue."
"Only if you kiss me again."
"Why you so intent on me kissin' you?"
"Because,
shug, when we were dancing you made me so wet and hot from that kiss I nearly came all over your leg."
Colby growled and enclosed his mouth over hers.

Long Hard Ride is an easy, fun read and was exactly what I needed after a little too much angst and depth lately. Who doesn't want to fall in love with a trio of hunky rodeo'ing cowboys every once in a while? The M/F/M was scorching and the chemistry between Colby and Channing was addictive!

"I like your fire. A woman like you could burn a man up. And I'd enjoy every hot second as I went down in flames."

Channing was a great female lead. She was on a journey of self discovery, open minded, sexy and strong. And Colby? Jeeeeez... why do they not make men like that in real life? I girl could get seriously depressed with men like Colby McKay illustrating just how short real men fall of the perfect book boyfriend!

Aw, and Trevor and Edgard's stories were super cute too. I'll definitely be interested to find out if they've got their own books in the series. I want to know how that all ends.

It isn't realistic and it is cheesy as hell, but if you dive into the book knowing and accepting that, it's all good and you can appreciate it for what it is.

"When you're back on your feet, cowboy, come looking for me because I'll be waiting. No matter where I am or what I'm doing I'll be waiting for you."

So having enjoyed this and knowing there are a whole tonne of Rough Riders books, I'll be keeping these in the forefront of my mind whenever I need a super steamy, easy read that doesn't require a whole lot of brainpower or a whole box of tissues! Thanks to Lorelei for giving me some much needed unwind material!

Well this book just had a little something for everyone didn't it? MF, MM, MMF...how can you not enjoy that. Let's just spell it out, it was a whole lot of sex and a little bit of story, but the sex was so great that I didn't care. I loved Trevor and Edgard so much I skipped to book 5....can you blame me?

Alyn's review posted, 3/15/12 on Guilty Pleasures

CREME de la CREME
Warning: This book will have you begging for a bronco riding cowboy to ride you into the sunset!

Channing Kinkaid is a city girl that is tired of living the life someone else planned for her. She is from a well off family that expects her to marry who they choose, take a job they lined up for her, and live the perfect life that she hates. Running off to the rodeo circuit with an Australian cowboy named Jared seemed like an easy out for the time being. He wasn't the greatest guy,and truth be told she wasn't exactly head over heels for him either. The one she really wanted to take for a ride was Colby McKay. Resident bad boys of the circuit Colby and his buddies Trevor and Edgard were known for their one night stands, tag teaming willing buckle bunnies and leaving them in the morning. It wasn't until Colby approached Channing after she won a wet t-shirt contest, that she realized he is more interested in her than she realized. One hot kiss on the dance floor from Colby was all it took to get Channing hooked on that hot cowboy. After finding out that Jared was not the man she thought he was, Channing takes Colby up on an offer she couldn't refuse.

Colby McKay new that Jared was no good for Channing. Even with all of the buckle bunnies willing to help him blow off some steam, he still couldn't keep his mind off of Channing Kinkaid. One taste of her was all it took and he knew he had to have her. After finding out that jerk of a boyfriend had finally shown his true colors, Colby offers Channing a week traveling on the circuit with him and his two buddies but with one condition. Channing had to do anything any of them asked, whenever they asked, without questioning. One week of pushing limits and fulfilling unlived fantasies was what he offered and Channing willingly agreed. He was in heaven! Coming from a family that tried to control his choices, Colby was happy to be rebelious and forget the responsibilities that called to him back home. After plenty of ropes, spankings, one on one, two on one, and lots of kisses is between, Colby realizes he is no longer interested in buckle bunnies. When his feelings for Channing start to present themselves, he realizes that maybe a week isn't long enough.

Unfortunately, Colby is not that best at explaining his feeling and nearly loses his chance by pushing her away. When tragedy strikes, Channing is forced to decide if she can handle the cowboy way, or if she should do as she is expected and go back to the city to live a life she feels is not her own.

All I can say is that I have fallen in love and in lust with this series! Colby McKay is one hot cowboy that can make a girl melt into a puddle simply by staring at them and saying "strip". The power and passion that all three cowboys and Channing show for one another is heart pounding and the scenes had me begging to be the one tied up and rode hard. The characters are honest and are easy to identify with and your heart will break with them when they suffer. Colby is the fun loving commanding cowboy looking for that one women to settle him down. Trevor is that happy go lucky honky tonk hunk that is trying to live up to his family's expectations. Edgard is the quiet Brazilian beauty that has a secret deep inside his heart. Each one of them has a story and you will fall in love with all of them as each page turns. I also love that we are slowly introduced to the families that will become part of the books that follow and am already anxious about the various family members and how their stories will be told. This is a must read, and if you are not a fan of cowboy stories, you surely will be after this red hot ride at the rodeo. I couldn't put it down!!!

DiDi's two cents (posted July 2011)
Great Start to The Rough Rider series. HOT & Steamy! I just read LHR for the THIRD time, it NEVER gets old..and each time I read it I find something new I missed. I LOVE sexy Colby and his inner sweetness. Edgard and Trevor are pretty freakin' hot also. And the way Channing stands up to him makes me want to yell "You Go Girl"!!!

I decided to order the first 5 books of this Series from Amazon…. Now why did I do that when I have never been a fan of modern cowboy romance?
Well, the series did have some good reviews and having decided to try a new genre of book…namely erotic romance….these sounded quite hot and steamy.

When the books arrived, I began reading the Long Hard Ride and I just couldn’t get into it…..rodeos, cowboys, cowgirls….a world I could not get into somehow….I put the books aside …maybe read them someday….

Finally the day arrived…having nothing more interesting to read that day…picked 1st book and started again….and all I can say is …WOW WOW….
I fell in love with cowboys….do guys like this really exist in the Wild West?????

What a family those Wild McKay’s are!!!!!!!

Book Description by Amazon:
Channing Kinkaid itches for a wild western adventure with an untamed man. Enter Colby McKay bull rider, saddle bronco buster and calf roper. He knows he’s found a woman whose up to the challenge of cutting loose. Intrigued by Channing’s bold proposition to "horse around" on the road, Colby proposes sexual escapades not only in his bed, but in those of his two rodeo traveling partners. Can Channing give up total control? Especially when not all is as it seems with the sexy trio?

Why I liked this book and love the Series……….
-sexy, hot cowboys….Colby McKay…this is some gorgeous guy…Trevor and Ed….
- OMG….the threesomes were SMOKING HOT…. Channing/Colby/Trevor….now I understood why this book is called Long Hard Ride!!!! My heart rate increasing as I kept reading the scorching and sizzling words
-lots and lots of sex scenes….in places and positions I had never thought of…….kinky stuff
-the rodeo life….background and what goes on was pretty amazing
-the sex scene between Trevor and Ed watched by Channing….even though m/m it’s not my scene I did feel a bit turned out -meeting all the different characters that we will get to know more about them in the next books
-the whole McKay family

This is a great, awesome, fabulous, hot, scorching, addictive erotic series and once I finished this book I couldn’t wait to continue to the next one. Unable to stop all the fantasizing about these fab cowboys and what they get up to!!!!!

This is the 3rd time I have read this series and am sure will keep coming back to read them again. And also will be getting the whole series……CAN’T WAIT….

I am now a total Lorelei James fan!!!!! If you like erotic romance…this is it….

Okay...I don't have much to say about this book. Unfortunately, I read half of it almost 2 months ago, then had to suddenly move and it go packed in a box and I only recently managed to find it and finish it. So writing a good review is kinda hard.

This book is ALL about THE SEX. Period. Okay, sure, there's a little bit of storyline in the background, but basically, this is pure sex. And there's a little bit of everything. I didn't really mind the overabundance of nekkid gymnastics, but there was potential for a more solid storyline I would like to have seen fulfilled.

I know some people thought the book was a little too hardcore, too rough and tumble, but I actually enjoyed the whole cowboy vibe quite a bit. Though, maybe it's just me, but I thought the author played up the bad grammar in the dialogue a bit more than necessary.

Anyway, very, very hot book. Lots of down and dirty, raunchy sex and not a lot of flowery love sentiment. If that's not your thing, then reading this book is not a good idea. But I rather enjoyed it. It's not something I'd want to read a lot of, but a book like this once in a while is fun. And I'll definitely be looking to get the other books in this series.

I didn't really care too much for this read. I mean it wasn't one star horrible. I guess I just was not all that invested in the characters or their plight. The "steamy" scenes were good though. But that was about it.
