Escape to Yesteryear

Having special abilities and being looked upon as different is one thing. Being hunted down for having those abilities is another story altogether.

In the not-too-distant future, there is no place for those who have special abilities. Hunted down due to their genetic abilities, those who are enhanced have only two join the forces that would destroy them, or fight for their right to exist.

For Eli, who can transform his body to wood or metal, or Callie, who can emit bursts of intense light, they have to decide which course of action to take. The question is, how much are they willing to sacrifice?

J.S. Frankel was born in Toronto, Canada, many moons ago and managed to scrape through high school and university, earning a BA in English Literature and leaving no book unopened during his time at the University of Toronto. Shortly after graduation, he moved to Japan in order to teach English to the hapless residents of whichever city he happened to be living at the time.

In 1997, he married the charming Akiko Koike and their union produced two rather interesting children. Frankel and his family make their home in Osaka where he teaches during the day and attempts to write YA fiction at night.

A huge fan of Frankel’s work, I am ALWAYS amazed, impressed, and completely fascinated by his depth and scope in his works! From transgenics to alien ‘takeovers’, time travel, exotic creatures and foods, to romance with the magical nuances of time travel and all the foils, chaos, and societal dynamics, this author NEVER disappoints!! While this magnificent journey is darker than some of the other novels I’ve read, it, quite honestly, left me feeling, smelling, and, yes, conversing with the characters (some disturbed and some disturbing). Frankel has a seldom seen ability to address timely, compelling, and the very real issues of our reality. I truly appreciated the setting: New York and those sights and sounds were spot on (as a one time resident of the Apple). Evil will do what evil is expected to do, I suppose. Couple that with an effortless and genius weaving of the good in our world, and you have a brilliantly executed story. Another highly recommended read!

Nowhere to Run!

An avid fan of Author J.S. Frankel’s Young Adult/Sci-Fi novels, ‘Escape to Yesteryear’ is nonstop trauma infused with flashes of spitting-image world news and societal imperfections.

Teen protagonists, Eli Marks and Callie Sanda, like the slew of minor characters you’ll meet, are genetically enhanced. Possessing the ability to shift their molecular structure for a brief period of time, they’re capable of amazing feats.

Given the prevailing myopic mindset inherent in any society, the enhanced, viewed as “mutants,” become pariahs. They are targets of the government and its sanctioned AMA (Anti-Mutant Association) with nowhere to run.

Frankel’s fast-paced, harrowing ventures with many close calls teem with: traitorous rogue factions of enhanced working for the AMA; advanced weaponry; a portal to other worlds; holograph disguising.

Frankel’s trademark eloquence conveys the selfishness, greed, stupidity, and inhumanity of mankind without breaking a sweat. A most worthwhile read enhanced by the author’s penchant for storytelling with no holds barred.
