4.25/5 stars!

I've been waiting to get my hands on this book and it finally came into fruition! I made a conscious effort to not binge-read this within a day and instead made it last 2 days (everyone clap).

This book is grouped in with some of the best debuts I've read. Author D.G. Woods has an incredibly expert level of writing and storytelling. Sometimes I've found that debuts can have a more juvenile style of writing, but I didn't sense that at all here. The atmosphere and the setting were on point.

I appreciated the complexities of character relationships within this book. Woods shows us that most times, people and your connections with them, are not black and white. Nellie had a complicated relationship with Lucas and her mom, which had my feelings split. I know a lot of people loved June (I did too), but I related most with Nellie. I could easily put myself in her shoes because many times, I had experienced versions of what she was going through. And I'll admit, I went into this book biased towards one of the characters. Naturally, I felt a surge of joy towards the end when that character's arc developed how I hoped it would.

The character dynamics worked well for me. Each character had something unique to offer to the group, both positive and negative. There are some sensitive topics within this book, but they were handled respectfully. I liked how the character's backstories were written and revealed. The character backstories were paced in such a way that we didn't learn too much, too fast. This left an air of mystery.

The pacing was pretty even throughout which kept me locked into the story. Once I reached around 70% though, I struggled to put the book down. The plot and the reveals ramped up which kept me hooked.

This story ended up being more thrilling to me than scary but I don't think that made it any less amazing. I do think I would've liked to see more of the deity and perhaps have seen more of its presence. I would've loved to learn more lore behind it or see it in action. Now that I've finished the book, I understand why everyone is saying that this story feels as though there could be more to it. While the ending was well-concluded, it also had left room for future development in another book, if she chooses.

I received an ARC of this book from the author, but as always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

As an ARC reader, I can confidently say this book deserves every single one of its five stars. From the very first chapter, I was captivated, finding myself completely unable to put it down!

The author's world-building in this novel is simply phenomenal. They effortlessly created a setting that not only felt incredibly real but also possessed a magnetic quality, truly sucking me right into its depths.

The characters were exceptionally well-rounded and believable. Their motivations and struggles felt personal and real, and I found myself deeply invested in their journeys. Coupled with an incredibly interesting plot line that kept me guessing at every turn, the narrative was a masterclass in engaging storytelling.

The pace of the book was relentless in the best possible way, ensuring there was never a dull moment. It was expertly laced with a thrilling blend of mystery and horror, creating an atmosphere of constant tension and intrigue. This combination kept me on the edge of my seat, turning pages ready for the next twist and turn, i read the entire book in 1 day! An absolute must-read!

I devoured this book in under 24 hours, spurred on by the fact that I needed answers and just could not get enough of this plotline! It was a great read, full of intrigue and mystery, blending crime with the occult, and had you doubting which side of that line it was going to end up on.

This book was haunting and eerie, but in a plausible and modern way. I did not struggle with any part of it being too far fetched, and it softly leaned into lore I had come across before, making the story feel more like a legend you might be told by your older siblings around a dark campfire, one that would leave you sleepless for the night, instead llistening for the crack of breaking branches.

The writing was incredibly easy to read, I didn't find myself lost or confused, it was well constructed and everything just fitted together so well.

Gimme more of DG Woods, I am here for it!

I'm still reeling from the book! You don't see many books with such emotional depth, atmospheric tension and subtle humor.

The main character, Nellie, is looking for her missing boyfriend and combines forces with three more people. All the characters are super vivid! Though Nellie resonated deeply with me (I totally get her relationship with her mother, my mom is the same), June was my favorite. She's so funny, like this little anarchist that we all have inside.

I loved the pacing and how the author wove in the backstory without distracting from the main plot. I didn't find the horror elements very spooky, but I guess you'd have to read it in the woods at night to actually be scared haha. I was heartbroken by the end, but I understand that it was necessary.

Thank you for the ARC copy!

This gave me Scooby Doo vibes (in the best way) if the gang could all do with some therapy and they are investigating something far more sinister than just a man in a mask. It’s got spooky small town vibes, found family chaos, rituals and mysterious murders. 5stars

Honestly, I DNF about 90% of books within the first 100 pages. The main reason is usually a writing style that just doesn't click with me. Pacing is a close second – either it's glacially slow or breakneck fast. And then there are the characters that feel like cardboard cutouts - lifeless and one-dimensional, with stilted dialogue, over-the-top descriptions, and authors forcing emotions in a way that feels fake.

That said, I didn't DNF this book :) The author's style is light and engaging from the very first line, and the narrative flows smoothly without dragging or rushing. There's no clutter, no logical gaps, and no plot holes - the sleuth detective element is intriguing, the thriller aspect works well, and the romantic subplot, while not the main focus, adds a nice balance (and it's fitting, since a romance-centric approach wouldn't suit this particular story). Everything comes together perfectly.

I also had no issues with the MFC. While she does start to get a bit reckless around the middle of the book, it ultimately adds to her dynamic personality. Nell's character development is smooth and well-executed, which I personally enjoyed.

With Nick, it's a different story :) At first, he didn't grab my attention, but as I read on, I grew increasingly intrigued by what was going on beneath his surface. He's not so much a villain as a morally complex character, which I absolutely adore.

June was my favorite. I think she single-handedly brings about 40% of the atmosphere on her own (no offense to the other 60%), and I wouldn't mind reading a separate book about her.

The villains didn't really stir up strong emotions in me. They had a straightforward motivation, which might be why they didn't leave a lasting impression.

The bottom line: this book is a quick and pleasant read. I'd give it 4.5 out of 5 - the only thing keeping it from a 5 is that I personally would have liked a bit more gore and darkness.

Very thankful to have received an ARC copy of this book, I simply didn’t want to put it down! In short, it is a gripping tale of strangers coming together to investigate the mysterious disappearances of their loved ones, only to be met with more mystery, conspiracy, superstition, and run-ins with creatures from Appalachian folklore! So if you’re someone who loves Appalachia-based content, conspiracy theories, the occult, and unsolved mysteries this is definitely the book for you.

It is well written, fast-paced, thrilling, emotional, and there is always a new twist or turn that keeps you on your toes. The world building and timeline transitions flowed very well and were easy to follow, and I was very invested in all of the characters’ stories and backgrounds. I loved that the differing character views of various suspertitions, supernatural entities, and the occult elements made you question whether there was something supernatural going on or not throughout most of the story! I will say that I didn’t find the horror components particularly scary, but there were ominous/eerie vibes the entire way through. The story has a solid conclusion and answers, but also leaves some room for the reader to form their own opinion on certain events.

Though I was definitely suspicious of a certain character throughout the story, I was still a little heartbroken by the ending. Maybe we can get a villian or redemption arc in another book? 👀

This was a five star read for me, but I do feel like there are a few unanswered questions that I still have, most of which relate to some of the side characters that we encountered. Although, saying that, I feel like the story was left open enough that a sequel could be a possibility, and that is something that I would absolutely devour 🙏🏻

And just to add, June was definitely my favourite 🖤

I just knew it in my very bones that I'd absolutely love this book and I did, I devoured it! 😍
The storyline had me enthralled through every chapter, and even when I was a lil scared and on edge about what would come next, I was so compelled to keep turning the pages.
The vibes were perfectly ominous and spooky, I literally had goosebumps at times.
I loved Wood's writing style so much, this book was well and truly alive in my mind, I felt like I was right there with the crew, trying to fix all the pieces together.
And did I have a creepy dream about being lost in the woods after a certain scene with a deer? YES I DID 🙈

Wow, D.G. Woods debut novel is something from my nightmares (in the best way)! I love the way her writing style conveys a haunting, dreadful atmosphere combined with the lore of a small Appalachian town rife with unsettling mysteries and deadly secrets.

The first half of this book sets the scene, layering on the complexities of the four main characters and their motivations for coming together to find out the reason for their loved ones disappearances. And the more they uncover, the more they attract the notice of something lurking in the woods…or perhaps the town itself.

The second half was a wild ride of twists and turns and I couldn’t put the book down flipping through the pages like a mad woman trying to find out what happened next. This is really where D.G. Woods shined, her immersive flair for storytelling about what really lay in the woods and what horrors left with our main character kept me hooked until the very last page.

Definitely looking forward to more works by this author!

This book put me back into the mindset of growing up in the Appalachian mountains of West Virginia. The creepy feeling when wondering the woods that something else was out there. The stories from elders speaking about not going to voices you hear, not looking over your shoulder when you feel a presence, and if something seems a little off then it’s not real and to run.
This book needs to be read at night to really set the scene. I loved the aspects of people trying to understand what is out there and the end of the book leaving you with wondering if it was all real or in your head. Because life is like that for sure, is everything you see real or part of you mind making you think certain things happened.
Be sure to grab this one when it comes out and enjoy your trip to the woods!

What a fantastic read! I dove right into this book immediately. The story was captivating and amazingly atmospheric. The characters felt real and well rounded, and it was easy to understand their motivations and feelings through out their journey. A great example of folklore storytelling and shows the author put in a lot of thought and time to writing it. The story was compelling and realistic and the emotions were palpable, the pace of the book kept me hooked. The plot twists were well done and definitely kept me on my toes to very end.
I am so thankful to have been able to receive an arc of this.

A fantastic debut!!

Nell's boyfriend vanishes out of thin air.
Mitchell and June's sister also vanished.
Nick's mom was killed in a car accident... or was she?
This group of four travel to Black Water and uncover the town's secrets. The question is, though, will they all make it out alive once they uncover the grim truth? Do monsters actually exist?

This is a perfect read for those who enjoy spooky stories, cults, witchcraft, thriller, and mystery. I enjoyed the pacing and there was never a moment where I was bored. There were no "filler" chapters or anything; everything written was important to the story and the characters.

This book is a masterclass in atmospheric storytelling, blending crime and occult mystery with a folk horror twist. The author's world-building is phenomenal, and the characters are well-rounded and believable. The plot is engaging, with a relentless pace that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The writing is easy to read, and the story is full of intrigue and suspense. While some might wish for more scares or a clearer explanation of the mysteries, the book's ominous and spooky vibes are perfectly executed. A solid debut novel that'll keep you turning pages till the end. Highly recommended for fans of folk horror and mystery!

I flew through this book!

Spoilers ahead:

Nick... oofta! I knew he was involved all along, but I was surprised to find out how!

I do wish we would have gotten more closure in terms of the sacrifices (Lucas, Amanda, etc.), but I am still happy with how the book wrapped up.

I will say that the Harvest Sacrifice immediately reminded me of an episode of Supernatural. However, this book put the best spin on the story.

Anyway, this book was a perfect read to kick off my spooky season TBR pile, and I will definitely be ordering a hard copy to add to my shelf!

Finished this in less than 24 hours of receiving the ARC, that's not a common thing for me! I had an amazing time reading this book. It is very cinematic, felt like an episode straight out of Supernatural - the earlier seasons. Although it has much more of the detective work than the supernatural stuff, its written very masterfully.

The promotion of this book on social media oversells its horror elements. Unless you are afraid of an FMC who has a strong sense of self preservation and doesn't let misunderstandings be the only reason plot is moving, rather confronts the people around her when she's in disagreement and the final act isn't just something she luckily stumbled upon but rather deduced due to strong instincts and actually doing all the leg work while maintaining complex and real relationships with everyone around her rather than everyone just treating her like a bomb about to explode, then yes it is a horrifying story!!

Into The Dark, We Go is a perfect showcase of progressive eerie vibes creeping under your skin.

Though the story is told from one POV, there are several complex characters introduced and explored throughout. I spent the entire book not trusting one, while being irritated by two others, and loving a fourth, all while being entertained by a great group of supporting characters.

I found myself asking a question in the first chapter, and then spent the entire book wondering if I'd get the answer. While you may think you know everything going on, you don't. You can't. You won't.

D.G. Woods dangles everything you need right in front of your face, while slapping you with jump scares and artistically macabre moments along the way.

I'm stunned this is the first novel we're getting from D.G. Woods, and I cannot wait to see what that twisted little mind gives us next.

What a fantastic debut!!! I am so thankful I was an ARC reader for this! It is such an atmospheric experience. The world building is top tier and the characters are actually all likeable! I think it can sometimes be difficult for authors to weave backstory into the main plot, but DG Woods did so seamlessly- even within the same chapter- it all flowed. The end is definitely a little heartbreaking but we all love a good twist so - it’s just perfect all the around and deserves every one of the 5 stars!

Into the Dark, We Go is a first person, well-written novel that touches upon the human psychology and the supernatural, with the folktale elements that I absolutely adore.

People around the world disappear every single day, and most of them never get found. Yet the characters of this novel decided that they will not let that happen to their loved ones.

For the fans of folklore, thrillers, horrors, and mystery - highly recommend.

THAT BEING SAID - SPOILERS!

All in all, a really enjoyable read for the fans of spooky vibes. Perfect for the spooky season ;)

I had some mixed feelings about this novel, but most of those feelings were positive (strange way to start a review there friend). This was an intriguing novel that delivered on a lot of different points. It was a decent mystery, it had solid spooky elements, there was a mild dash of romance, and a thorough investigation into relationship dynamics and the problems that can arise therein. This novel did a great job of straddling the line of making you question how supernatural things actually were (although I think the answer is obvious it was still well done). There were a lot of ongoing elements woven throughout the story beyond just the search for missing persons, which I appreciated. Each of the characters felt very real and had their own stories going on. I think if you are looking for a slow-burn spooky horror mystery then this would be a great choice for you.

This novel kept my interest, but I will say that it dragged a little bit at times during the first half. They (realistically) spend a lot of time somewhat spinning their wheels and not accomplishing much other than setting things up for the second half. The novel almost feels like there are two sections and although it worked from a storytelling perspective I think that it made it feel a bit disjointed.

I loved how this novel presented cops as generally crappy, useless, rude, and someone that you can’t trust. Just like the real world! Bonus points from me.

I need to comment: these characters are HORRIBLE at asking questions despite apparently trying to investigate a mystery. I found myself infuriated at them more than once, but I suppose they are not exactly professionals. I think the reason I was bothered was because there were several times where most people would be asking certain questions, and when these characters didn’t it felt unrealistic to me.

The ending of this novel was the perfect blend of resolution and cliffhanger (which won’t be wrapped up as far as I can tell). It was slightly annoying but in a really good way (if that makes sense!).

Thank you to the author for providing a free ARC. This honest review was left voluntarily.

I received this book as an ARC, but this review is 100% my honest opinion.

It’s been a long time since a book pulled me out of a reading slump, but "Into the Dark, We Go" did exactly that. From the very first chapter, I was hooked. D.G. Woods masterfully blends dark fantasy with Appalachian folklore and small-town mystery, creating an atmosphere that’s both eerie and addictive.

The story follows Nellie, a 23-year-old whose grief and longing for closure drive her deep into the Appalachian wilderness. Alongside two strangers, she searches for answers about the loved ones they’ve lost—but what they uncover is more unsettling and haunting than any of them could imagine. The woods themselves feel alive, breathing with menace, and the sense of dread builds page by page.

What I loved most:

The characters – Nellie and her allies felt authentic and layered, their struggles and motivations pulling me deeper into the story. Even in the darkest moments, there’s a raw humanity that makes you root for them.

The atmosphere – Woods captures Appalachia with vivid, haunting detail. The wilderness feels like its own character—beautiful, but filled with secrets that chill you to the bone.

The pacing – The book moves quickly without ever feeling rushed. Every chapter pulled me further in, and I often found myself saying “just one more” until suddenly it was late into the night.

The originality – This wasn’t just another dark fantasy. The mix of generational secrets, folklore, and psychological tension gave the book a fresh and unique voice.

D.G. Woods has such a talent for weaving suspense with emotion. This book isn’t just about survival in the woods—it’s about grief, resilience, and the lengths we go to for the people we love.

If you love dark, atmospheric stories that blur the line between reality and the supernatural, Into the Dark, We Go is one you don’t want to miss. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more from this author.

Into the Dark, We Go" sucked me in from the first page, dragging me into a dark and twisted world I didn't want to leave. The mix of horror, mystery, and suspense is perfect, and the atmosphere is seriously creepy.

Plot: 5/5
The story follows Nellie, a young woman whose boyfriend has mysteriously disappeared, and she's determined to find him. She joins forces with others who've lost loved ones under similar circumstances, and the mystery unfolds.
As an avid thriller reader, I was blown away by the plot twists in this book - they kept me guessing, and wow!

Characters: 4/5
The characters felt very real. It's like I was right there in the car with them. I wish we knew more about Mitchell and June's history, but perhaps that would have pulled the reader out of the narrative – I'm still curious, though. But I loved how the character backstories were skillfully woven throughout the story.

Atmosphere: 5/5
The author has a gift for creating a creepy, immersive atmosphere that's perfect for fans of dark fiction. The setting is vividly described but not over the top, and the supernatural elements are chilling and suspenseful. I loved how the author used mythology and folklore to add depth and richness to the story.

Overall: 5/5
It's not a jump-scare horror, but the kind that creeps up on you. When you lift your eyes from the book, you suddenly get the chills – like you've found yourself in those woods, with something lurking in the shadows and behind the trees.
It's a must-read for fans of dark supernatural stories, and I highly recommend it for a spooky season treat. Hopefully, the author will consider a sequel because there's definitely room for it, and I am rubbing my hands together, dying to know more.

Thank you to author D. G. Woods for the ARC!

The promise of an Appalachian horror story pulled me in and I stayed for the dark and lovely prose. I wish that there had been more horror elements to give me the spine tingling scare I was looking for, but this read more like a thriller tinged with a touch of the occult. Lots of slow burning chapters that raised more questions with each page, but it just added to the adventure. There was one intense chapter at around 80% that definitely got creepy, and I would have loved if it had been expanded with more horror-based imagery. Perhaps if there was more emphasis on the folklore of the Appalachian woven in, it would have raised the hairs on my neck; but for what the book actually was, I did enjoy it.

The female main character Nellie’s inability to find her footing in a world where her boyfriend goes missing was strangely relatable to me. When I was 23, I was also a college dropout that struggled with identity and the humiliation of having to move home, albeit without the element of a missing partner, but still I could empathize with her need to find answers and break away from her mundane existence. She was an interesting character to follow; flawed but genuine. She definitely had final girl vibes.

This author has the potential to break out into the gothic, folkish horror genre that is so underrepresented. A true writer with a haunting imagination that I’m sure houses the potential to unleash so many more nightmares upon us. I’m excited to read more by this writer!

I received an ARC of this, and this review is completely unbiased.

Into the Dark, We Go is a chilling, atmospheric read that hooked me from the very first page. Set against the haunting backdrop of the Appalachian wilderness, the story delivers exactly what it promises: a blend of psychological tension, eerie small-town secrets, and a creeping sense of dread that lingers long after you’ve finished reading.
Woods does a brilliant job of balancing mystery and dark fantasy, creating a world where the line between reality and the supernatural blurs in unsettling ways. Nellie is a deeply relatable protagonist—flawed, grieving, but determined—and her journey into the unknown felt both heartbreaking and empowering. I loved how her desperation to find answers mirrors the reader’s own drive to uncover the truth.
The pacing is sharp and suspenseful, full of twists and turns that kept me guessing. Just when I thought I had the mystery figured out, the story took another chilling turn. The atmosphere is heavy and immersive—shadowy woods, whispered secrets, and the constant feeling that something unseen is watching. It gave me that same delicious unease as Doctor Sleep and Sharp Objects, just as the description suggests.
This isn’t just a story about missing people; it’s about grief, resilience, and the dangerous allure of hidden truths. The generational secrets woven into the town’s history made the stakes feel even higher and gave the book a satisfying depth.
If you love dark, twisty stories with a strong sense of place, a spooky atmosphere, and a protagonist you can root for, Into the Dark, We Go is an absolute must-read.

Note to self: do not read a book about creepy forests and scary things happening in them when you are currently at a cottage in the middle of the wilderness.

Now that that little reminder is out of the way… “Into the Dark, We Go” was fantastic! Full of atmosphere, lore and mystery, I was drawn into the story immediately and very eager to find out what was going on. Trying to unravel the story along with the characters - feeling their frustrations with dead ends, the fear they felt at *scary* times (no spoilers!) and also their connections to each other grow through it all - kept me both enthralled in the story but also needing to know more!

D.G. Woods has such a wonderful writing style - easy to read, descriptive and always interesting. Every chapter held a piece to the puzzle and I would highly recommend this book if you enjoy something dark, moody and intriguing.

4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rounded up because it’s one heck of a wild ride and a fantastic debut!

“I've learned that you can stop loving someone when there is a reason -a shift, a moment, something they do or say, or just the slow, quiet realization that you have moved on. It is a choice, conscious or not, and the feeling fades, dissolving into the past.

But when someone is ripped out of your life without warning, without a goodbye, it doesn't work like that. That kind of love doesn't disappear. It just changes. Shrinks a little, enough to make room for something new. But it stays.”

This is a pretty solid debut and I am liking D.G. Woods' vibes a lot.

This book is very engaging right from the start and I really appreciated our main character. The mystery of it all is intriguing and the set up is solid.

What I think was done particularly well: the overall sense of dread and feeling of distrust I had the whole book. What was real or believable was always shifting and as the book reached its conclusion I still wasn't sure who to trust (though my gut feeling turned out to be right!). This book created a dreamlike haze that the mystery was all wrapped up in. That and the atmosphere of the Appalachian woods, witches, and a small town with secrets. Sign me up.

What I think needed a bit more: a little more character development and intercharacter development. I think Nellie and crew's motivations weren't always clear when it came down to the day to day minutia. Now, I think part of what was at play was all of the darkness in this town making everyone act a little bit odd - but as the reader I wasn't sure if things needed more flushing out or if this was the point? As it was, I was left feeling a little bit confused at times with some of the side-plot threads. (Someone please call Sammy's people and tell them where he is!!!)

Overall, an enjoyable read with a very dark and thrilling end.

Thank you to the author for this ARC!

✨️ I received this as an ARC. ✨️

This was an incredibly well-paced thriller, which made it hard to put down. There are lots of twists, and tense moments that have you questioning what's really going on, along with the characters.

We spend the whole book in Nellie's POV, which helps to create some tension in regards to the behaviors and motivation of the other main characters, Mitchell, June and Nick. I found myself questioning, along with Nellie, who she really ought to trust...and how far.

There are shifts in time, where we move between Nellie's present (two years after her boyfriend Lucas went missing), and her past (during her relationship with Lucas). I mention this for readers who struggle with flashbacks in writing--but it really does serve a purpose here.

The atmospherics of this one are perfect for a fall read, or just a dark, stormy night in. It's creepy, and just the right amount of twisted and terrifying.

There is some romance, and some intimacy, but those elements are definitely not the focal point of the story.

I'm undecided on the ending, whether it's a possible open door to a sequel, or if we're simply being given a bit of space to wonder what might be yet to come. (If you need everything spelled out and tied up in bows at the end, you might find it unsatisfying)

4.5/5 stars.

Thank you so much for the ARC! I'm excited to share my honest review. I had to create a Goodreads account just to post this, so I could share my thoughts.
In short: I absolutely loved this debut novel. The plot is engaging, with past flashbacks skillfully woven in. The pacing is consistent, with plenty of action to keep me hooked.
Plot: Nell is an outcast, haunted by her mother's abuse and ostracized by her friends who suspect she killed her boyfriend, who mysteriously disappeared two years ago. She's trying to move on, but her past continues to haunt her, and she joins a group of others on a quest to find their loved ones.
Their investigation takes them to West Virginia, where they uncover a dark secret: a male-dominated coven is trading human lives for favors from a mystical deity.
Atmosphere: The dark, foreboding atmosphere kept me tense throughout. I appreciated the subtle humor elements, which added a layer of complexity to the story.
Writing style: The writing is easy to read, engaging, and well-flown.
Characters: I loved the complex characters!
Nellie is a lost soul, repressed by her mother and rejected by her friends because they suspected she killed her boyfriend. She lives in shame and is trying to move on, but can't.
June is the group's jester. She's fun, chaotic, and a real anarchist - I loved her character. She's there when you need her and isn't afraid to call others out on their stuff.
Mitchell was a character I initially disliked, but his growth and development throughout the book won me over. He's probably the most interesting character in terms of growth.
Nick - from the start, I sensed something was off about him. He's a true morally gray character, which I enjoyed.
Mathilda was a delight to read about! I could vividly picture her in her store, drifting among the shelves.
As for Robert, I wish we saw more of him and his motivations. It would be interesting to explore his backstory and relationship with Nick's mother. If I'm correct, Nick is his son - that's twisted.
Overall: This book was a page-turner, and I devoured it in under 3 days. I'm eagerly awaiting a potential sequel! To my taste, it could have been a little scarier, but I'll take it. There were so many other amazing elements that made up for it, so it's no big deal. 4.99/5

Into the Dark, We Go by D.G. Woods does not disappoint!

Nellie is 23, dropped out of college, and still stuck in the shadow of her boyfriend’s disappearance two years ago. On the verge of moving back in with her mom—a situation she’s dreading—two strangers show up claiming their sister went missing the same way. Desperate for connection and answers, Nellie agrees to join their search, following a thin trail of clues deep into the Appalachian wilderness. But the further they go, the less clear reality becomes, and something in the woods seems to be watching. Caught in a web of old secrets and whispered stories, Nellie can’t tell if they’re getting closer to the truth or walking straight into a trap.

The pacing and writing kept me intrigued. I had to force myself to put down the book. I wanted to know what happened next!

The flashbacks and present moment were blended wonderfully and didn’t stifle the flow of the book.

I felt that identified with Nellie, but I enjoyed June as a character the most.

Don’t let yourself believe something for too long in this book. There are surprise all the way up until the very end!
