Laird Finlay Dalreagh, Earl of Dunrannoch. Roguishly charming. A sexy beast in the bed chamber. And an utter failure… at keeping hold of his wife.
Finlay has just one chance to make things right. Snowed in at Castle Dunrannoch, can he convince the one and only lass he adores that he’s worthy of her love?
this juicy little novella features a haunted castle, a raging blizzard on the Highland moors, a dozy deerhound, one extremely determined Scot, and a fiery lass determined to resist him.

Should I read in order? I am assuming this is from a series – it’s very readable alone!
Basic plot: Finley and Margaret are thrown together and snowed in – which wouldn’t be a problem as husband and wife except Margaret can’t stand the site of Finley.
Give this a try if you want: - Victorian romance – 1860 - Scotland setting - holiday romance - childhood friends to lovers - marriage in jeopardy - enemies (on her half) to lovers - second chance - snowed in - close proximity for the latter half - card game bets – if he wins, he gets kisses, if she wins, she gets a divorce - shorter page count - medium steam – 2 full scenes in a shorter page count
Ages: - I didn’t catch them but would guess mid 20s
First line: The Great Hall of Castle Balmore was radiant with candlelight, its magnificent hearth ablaze.
My thoughts: Even though second chance and marriage in jeopardy are bottom of the barrel tropes for me, I was really hoping being snowed in would make it up for me! I really loved the setup of this novel.
But I crave tension building in my romances so, so bad. It’s the number one way to get me to fall utterly in love with a book and the characters. And something that doesn’t build tension for me is when people hate each other but fuck and then immediately go on hating immediately after. It just doesn’t work for me – those that love enemies to lovers vibes or eat that stuff up will get a greater enjoyment in this one than me.
I just didn’t like the reasoning behind her hatred and I didn’t think it was….worthy??? I thought she was so mean to him and the reasons just weren’t there for me. So to have her mad at him the whole book, him apologizing and trying to do everything right and her still being mad at him...I was just so frustrated with her.
There were definitely cute parts of this story. It was definitely just a me thing. This was my first by this author but I’ll try more because I think I could really love a different set up.

Full break down on what my ratings above mean here: Overall: How I felt about it everything considered! Readability: How ‘readable’ was the book? Did I fly through it? Did I have to tell myself to pick it back up repeatedly? Were any passages confusing? (I will probably score like (1) is literally unreadable due to formatting/typing errors, etc (2) There were lots of errors that made it difficult to read OR It was extremely confusing and I had to reread passages to make sense of it OR I disliked it so much I had to bribe myself to keep reading (3) I didn’t really want to keep reading and would have preferred to abandon the read and start something else OR some minor continuity issues/confusion (4) I liked it fine, maybe a minor error or 2. I was happy to pick it up when I had time. (5) I never wanted to put this down. I thought about it when I wasn’t reading it. I hid in the bathroom from my kids to read. I threw inappropriate food at my children for dinner so I could read instead.) Feels: Totally subjective to each person but did the book give me any tingles? Any butterflies? Did it rip my heart out (in a good way?) Emotional depth: How well do I feel I know the characters at the end? How much did I feel their emotions throughout the story? Sexual tension: Again, subjective, but how strong was the wanting and longing to me between the characters? A book might have strong sexual tension without a single touch. Romance: Was there romance? Did romantic things happen? This can be actions/words/thoughts of the characters and again is subjective. Sensuality: This is how the intimate scenes are written. Kisses and sexual scenes – how sensual were they? Were they on the mechanical side? Was there emotional pull tied in? Were the details explicit or flowery? These are subjective but generally (1) too short to get a good judgement (2) not all what I'm looking for - very vague or flowery prose (3) either not explicit enough or not enough emotional pull (too mechanical/physically descriptive without the emotions) (4) what I love in a scene (5) absolute perfection - perfect balance of emotional longing and explicit descriptions Sex Scene Length: How long the bedroom scenes are (generally (1) is 1-3 sentences (2) is a few paragraphs to a page-ish (3) is about average, a few pages (4) more well developed scenes, quite a few pages with descriptions (5) the majority of the book takes place in the bedroom. This is always hard to tell for me on audio! Steam Scale: Generally, each flame is a scene. If scenes are super close together I sometimes combine them. If a scene is super short or so vague I don’t know what’s happening, I don’t count it. There’s some levels of grey but generally the number of flames is how many sex scenes there are (I max out at 5 so I’ll put a + after if there’s more than that)
Super story! I finished it in one evening. Headstrong heroine wants nothing to do with her money-grubbing husband who has married her for her money; her husband was busy planning and working for their future. A lovely story, quick read. Not to be missed! #advance copy
This is a great series, I have read every book, there's drama, comedy, unique stories and some good old fashioned smut.
Once again we visit, Dunrannoch Castle, it seems that it's the story of Finlay and Margaret Dalreagh, childhood sweethearts and it seems their marriage ended after one day.
It's Hogmanay (New Year's Eve) Margaret is hiding in corners, angry that her husband is dancing with other women and her brother and sister in law have invited him and lied to her. They have a plan, Finlay is plied with Whisky and Margaret tied up and shanghied to Dunrannoch Castle, alone to mend their relationship. It's a classic, close proximity, snowed in by a blizzard and second chance love story.
This super-hot and steamy novella is a second-chance love story set within “The Lady’s Guide” series.
The magnificent Dunrannoch Castle in snow-covered Scotland is the perfect setting for this close-proximity romance of the married but estranged Margaret and Finley. Their friction-filled relationship is charged with emotion and sexual desire – a sizzling dynamic that completely drew me in.
The use of Scottish Gaelic words throughout this short story (a glossary is provided), added charm and authenticity to the story.
Having read all the books in this series, I enjoyed the subtle nods to previous characters and the return of a bagpiping “ghost”! This novella can be enjoyed as a standalone, but the entire series is so engaging it’s well worth reading from the beginning.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
I Simply Loved It! Finlay sure had his hands full trying to win Margaret's trust and love all over again in this second chance romance. The story is filled with giggle-scenes, (I couldn't help myself so many times). Margaret was so headstrong and totally determined to get separated from her husband while he gave it his all to stay married to her. This story was so easy to read and also perfectly enjoyable, so it is a pleasure to recommend it and leave you with my voluntary review.
Poor Laird Finlay Dalreagh not understanding the wife he married the year prior. He has perfect opportunity to win his wife back but he seems to bungle it at every turn considering he was practically hand served by his wife’s family the setting to set things right. This is a quick and easy read. I thoroughly enjoyed this novella. Even if it took the Laird awhile to get it right he eventually got it.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Spicy novella with hot headed Margaret and her husband Finlay separated after their wedding 1 year ago. He thought he knew what she wanted/ needed and she thought he married her only for money from her brother. With help from family they get stuck together in a snow storm and work on making or breaking their vows. Cute, fast read.
I absolutely loved this quick and sexy read. The back and forth between Margaret(“Magsie”), a fiery redhead, and Finley, her jilted husband was perfect. I’m still steaming. I couldn’t put it down.
Margaret’s brother and sister-in-law conspire to get her and her estranged husband, Finlay, alone together in the hope that they will reconcile. Margaret was disillusioned the day after her wedding and the fact that Finlay has made no attempt to get them back together in the last year has firmly convinced her that they were not a love-match. Finlay now has his work cut out (and he keeps messing up) to win her back. Whilst Finlay uses every trick in the book to get Margaret into his bed, it’s fair to say that he took her adoration for granted during their engagement and then expected her to come back to him without any effort on his part, so I would have liked some grovelling. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A spicy, entertaining and delightful story. Finlay tries to win back his estranged wife Margaret who believes he married her for her money. Loved the setting, the characters and the steam. The banter between them was a joy. Another great book in the series.

This is a standalone story in the Lady’s Guide series. It is a short and easy read about Finlay and his wife Margaret, childhood sweethearts, who have been estranged for a year since the morning after their wedding when Margaret learned of something that made her question everything. These two are unwittingly forced together by well meaning scheming family which is then prolonged by a snow blizzard. Margaret is clearly angry and Finlay has to work very hard to seek her forgiveness. Finlay is a very likeable MMC who is besotted with his wife but is not the clearest communicator, Margaret is a bit stubborn and doesn’t make it easy for him, but she learns his actions sometimes speak louder than his words. There are lots of Scottish Gaelic words (a glossary is provided if you cannot work them out), a faithful wolfhound called Brucie, plus some steamy scenes with a HEA.
I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review.
This was an excellent afternoon book. The protagonists although married have been apart for a year due to the young wife’s misunderstanding of a situation she felt was handled badly compromising their relationship. This takes place during Christmas, and the description of people and events because of the holiday were lovely and made you visualize it clearly. Relatives decide to intervene to get them together to at least talk and negotiate their marriage. It’s a simple matter of wills and the husband attempting to be as accommodating and understanding with his wife to make him realize his position at the time of the perceived incident which the wife felt had put her in a disadvantaged position because of a business arrangement with her brother which she had no bearing on but perceived that she did. It was a pleasant romp and in the end, plays out well, however the young wife doesn’t make the reconciliation easy for her husband. I would recommend it.
I received this ARC during a heat wave in June and what could possibly be better than being transported to New Year's Eve in a snowstorm in Scotland? So naturally I got myself a pot of tea and some shortbread and sat myself down for a read. I have read several of the Lady's Guides and they are always so good!! This one was as well. Finlay and Margaret married a year ago and have been estranged since the day following the wedding. Their friends have conspired to have them trapped in a snow bound house and the story goes from there. Margaret is determined to be her own woman and resist Fin's attempts at reconciliation. Fin is determined to make up for his mistakes and get Margaret to understand that he made mistakes but that he loves her above all else. It's a quick read and it will make you laugh and warm your heart.
The Lady’s Guide series is standalone books that are only loosely connected and can be read in any order. They’re short, a bit smoldery, and inhabited by strong-willed characters who have a penchant for misreading the situation and each other. Ordinarily they’re great romps and just what I need from time to time. This one, however, almost didn’t make it to four stars. Margaret was a bit too unreasonable and way too unwilling to see anything outside her preconceptions. Consequently, instead of the serving of romantic fantasy that I expected, I spent a couple of hours wondering just how obtuse one person could be and what Finley saw in her to begin with. Nevertheless, I’ll grab another in the series the next time I need a break and hope for. a slightly more reasonable heroine.
Wow! Another great read by the author. Trust is such an important part of marriage , but Laird Findlay broke this trust of his new wife Margaret right at the start of the marriage. She was so upset and left after the first wedding night. A meeting at a ball along with a set up by friends puts these two on route to the Larid’s family home on a stormy night. Once here they get snowed in. Margaret still is pushing to leave Finaly even though she has feelings for him and Finlay well he has all ways loved her. He plans during this time to clear up the misunderstanding and to win her back . Who will be the winner in the end?
This book was an easy read full of laughs between the two’s interactions. I really enjoyed the read.
The Lady’s Guide To Being Snowbound With A Scottish Laird was a delightful book filled with depth and emotion. I loved the details depicting the time era, the castle and the enchanting language with their unique accents and expressions. The way the characters were written really brought them to life and made you feel what they were going through. I liked that this story took place during a snowstorm and Laird Finley Dalreagh has to win over his estranged wife Margaret who believes that he has only married her because of a loan that he took from her brother. Misunderstandings and hurt feelings abound before these two lovers find their way back to each other. A sweet, sexy story where true love always wins.
Margaret has a problem with forgiveness. Finley has a problem with selfishness. It takes being snowbound to work it all out. I have to say, Margaret was rather hard to like through much of this story. Giving up on her husband after only one day of marriage was a bit much! Finley had his reasons, but she was not even willing to listen. I adored how they ended up together, stuck in the storm. How they got together was a beautiful story in itself. The bedroom scenes were many and the use of the f-bomb wasn’t necessary (thus the 4 stars). A quick read and frustrating at times, but the ending was beautiful.
I received this story for free and these are my own opinions
Another fantastic edition to The Lady’s Guide This story follows Laird Finlay Dalreagh, Earl of Dunrannoch and his wife Margaret who abandoned her marriage after their wedding day. He did something unforgivable in her eyes that left her reeling and questioning his feelings for her. After a year of being apart drastic steps are taken to get them back together. Will Finlay make the most of this opportunity and be able to show Margaret the depths of his feelings for her? Or will he lose her forever? Can Margaret forgive all that has happened and start afresh? A fun, entertaining, steamy at times short story with loveable characters. A thoroughly enjoyable story and a delight to read.
Laird Finlay Dalreagh, Earl of Dunrannoch. married Margaret a little over a year ago and lost her the next day when she found out about a deal between her brother and her future husband. Since then Margaret has been trying to get Finlay to divorce. But her brother and sister-in-law have other plans.
While I don't like the trickery to get Finlay and Margaret together, the result made for an interesting read. I must admit, Brucie, Finlay's deerhound was my favorite character.
I received an ARC of this book from the author. My review and recommendation is voluntary. I do enjoy all of "The Lady's Guide to Love" and this is enjoyable addition to the series.
Lady Margaret grew up with a crush on Laird Findlay. They are neighbors (sort of) and their families are business partners. Findlay messed up big time and he never fought for Margaret. He let her go without a fight because his pride was hurt. Did he do enough to earn his way back into her life? I think not. I did like Margaret who had a rude awakening after her wedding night. I did not like that she was kidnapped and forced her to spend time with Findlay by her brother and sister in law. Findlay needed to man up and do some serious begging, which he never did. Without outside “help.”
I enjoyed reading Margaret and Finlay’s story. Margaret left Finlay right after they were married after discovering something that made her feel slighted by Finlay. It takes some interference by family members to get these two stranded together to work things out. Margaret doesn’t make it easy for Finlay. I liked Margaret’s stubbornness and tenacity, and I liked how Finlay loved Margaret despite her stubbornness. Being snowed in together forced these two to actually communicate with each other. Finlay had to work hard at getting Margaret’s forgiveness, but he loved her enough to make the effort.
This was a second chance story. The childhood sweethearts have basically been estranged since day one of their marriage which was about one year ago. The family gets them together in a castle and a snowstorm keeps them there. The FMC is a little hard to like at the beginning as she is so stubborn. The MMC is a little too independent/selfish. He does love her but the proving of that seems fairly difficult. For me personally there were a little too many bedroom scenes. This book is part of a series but it stands alone in its plot.
Second chance love for Margaret and Finlay This was a quick read, so I finished it in one sitting. It took me a bit to warm up to the main characters in this story because Margaret is so stubborn, and Finlay is so arrogant. She needs to forgive and he needs to be less selfish. The only way they will learn is by being trapped together during a blizzard. Includes some steamy scenes and swearing. Can be read as a standalone.
I received an Advance Review Copy (ARC) of the ebook, and I’m leaving a voluntary review.
This was a quick little happy story and I read it in one sitting. It's exactly what you'd expect--an estranged married couple finds their way back together thanks to some plotting friends, a snowstorm and a naughty dog. In my opinion, the couple should never have separated in the first place, because their main conflict wasn't so very dire. But, I suppose that the fun part of fighting is in the making up--and that's what this story is all about. I received a free ARC from the author and this is my honest opinion.
This is the first book I’ve read in the Lady’s Guide series and it has me hooked. I have to read the rest of the series. The plot involves a Scottish Laird and his spirited and independent wife who have lived apart for a year. Through maneuvering by family members during a New Year Eve’s party, the two are reunited and snowed in at their Scottish castle. This is a second chance story with romance, humor, and spice. I highly recommend this book.
I received a free copy of the book and this is my voluntary review.
She wants a divorce from her less than truthful husband. Married a day and separated for a year. They are thrown together and forced to spend time alone when the snow arrives. He knows he should have handled things more openly when they married but he is trying to make amends and win back his wife. This is an entertaining story of second chance love, with a guaranteed HEA for Finlay and Margaret. Don’t miss their bickering and making up!
