Captain Irwin and Lady Eleanor Irwin have fallen on hard times after their return from America. Married after elopement to Scotland, Lady Eleanor's father Lord Norland severed all bands with the newlyweds making them completely reliant on Irwin's military wages. Trying to support his large family, Captain Irwin contract large debts while their friends and relatives refrain from supporting them. Desperate, Irwin tries to force his father-in-law to help his family whilw his wife simultaenously seeks help from friends and pleading her father for forgiveness. Meanwhile the friends of this couple explore various stages of marriage, divorce, or bachelor's life.

Very average play from the time period

Congratulations, your female characters had some voice? These plays read very differently in the modern age.
