In the tradition of The Girl on the Train comes the UK bestseller THE ICE TWINS, a terrifying psychological thriller with a twisting plot worthy of Gillian Flynn.
One of Sarah's daughters died. But can she be sure which one?
A year after one of their identical twin daughters, Lydia, dies in an accident, Angus and Sarah Moorcroft move to the tiny Scottish island Angus inherited from his grandmother, hoping to put together the pieces of their shattered lives.
But when their surviving daughter, Kirstie, claims they have mistaken her identity--that she, in fact, is Lydia--their world comes crashing down once again.
As winter encroaches, Angus is forced to travel away from the island for work, Sarah is feeling isolated, and Kirstie (or is it Lydia?) is growing more disturbed. When a violent storm leaves Sarah and her daughter stranded, they are forced to confront what really happened on that fateful day.
Hello! I am S K Tremayne, but my true name is Sean Thomas.
I write books where real places become menacing, and where ordinary people experience something extraordinary.
Born in Devon, I now live in London, but I travel a lot in my second job as a journalist, sometimes visiting places which inspire the books. My first S K Tremayne thriller, THE ICE TWINS, was a number one Sunday Times bestseller. The S K Tremayne novels have been translated into thirty languages, and have been bestsellers around the globe. Yay!
I am always happy to hear from readers; you can reach me at:
My latest book is THE ASSISTANT, published in the UK on December 26, 2019 (but a bit earlier on Kindle). It's all about the way we give our lives to technology, and what happens if that technology turns on us, and haunts us.
When I'm not working on books or articles, I can generally be found staring out of windows, urgently looking for the next good idea.
Well, this is interesting. I wanted this book so much, but can't afford it so I downloaded the 3 chapter preview, which I just fell in love with, and at the end on the kindle, Amazon actually lets you leave a rating and a review for the sample. Either I'm in time warp and missed this or it's totally new. Either way, even though I didn't have the chance to read the entire book, I'm totally sucked into it. Now I just need to get my hands on a copy.
I came back here to add it to my wishlist and see there's the same here. A page for just the sample. I was about to make a new shelf for samples read, but now I don't have to. This is cool. It'll be even better when I'm typing on the page for the entire book. Last words of the 3 chapters......chilling.....exactly the way I Love stories. Now i 'NEED' the rest of this book!!
I read a few reviews about this book and found a good amount of hype about it. The Ice Twins does not disappoint, it is one of those disturbing but I just have to keep reading books. An eerie thriller with a little heart to it and plot twists done right. Nice.
THE ICE TWINS is the first novel I'd read by S.K. Tremayne. The synopsis was enough to catch my attention: One twin dies, and a year later the surviving twin claims that she is, in fact, the one they thought was dead. I'll admit that I had some prejudice going into this one because--as a mother myself--how could you possibly mistake one of your own children (even identical twins) at the age of 6 or 7??? By that point, individual personalities would have emerged making identifying just on voice patterns or personal preferences fairly obvious. However, the author did a great job in explaining the confusion resulting later on, and I was VERY intrigued by the entire first half of the novel.
Unfortunately, a focal point is revealed 1/2 way through, and that pretty much took away all of the suspense for me. After the revelation, it was a matter of guessing trivial things that added to the big event, which, in my opinion, was extremely easy. However, I continued on, hoping that maybe there would be a twist I had missed. Although I had guessed everything correctly, the ending was satisfying enough--albeit nowhere near as exciting as the first half of the book because of the lack of tension that the beginning had going for it.
Overall, 4 stars for the first half, and 2 for the second.
Only 3 chapters long, but I absolutely adored this! This preview of the novel "the ice twins" did exactly what it was supposed to:
Make me want to buy the novel.
Only 3 short chapters, but it gives so much. And leaves me hungry, no starving for more. :) it's beautifully written. It's sad. It's spooky. It's messed up. The idea alone is fantastic.
Burying a child can never be easy. But imagine just how much harder it must be if you're left wondering which one actually died. :'(
I am definitely buying the novel in physical book form instead of just Kindle edition as soon as Halloween rolls around. :) I just know I'm gonna love the full length novel & I wanna have that gorgeous cover in my library. :)
Recommended for fans of horror stories & psychological thrillers. :)
I really had high hopes for this book. The book jacket description of the book sounded good. Ice Twins is about the aftermath of the death of one of the eight year old identical twin girls . The book opens up with the mystery of who really survived, but halfway through reading it, the book gives you the answer and the second half of the book is whether or not the mother is going insane. I was disappointed with the second half of the book.
This book should have been called "Diary of a failed marriage" it was more about the couple than the plot in the description. It was ridiculous how little the idea of the plot actually made it into the story. I found myself skimming a lot simply because i didn't want to hear anymore nonsense about the couple in the story. This plot had potential but it failed to produce. It was an OK read but never really absorbed me into the story.
A brilliant chilling book.a parents nightmare a dead child one of a set of identical twins. The parents move their remaining child to a private island.a stormy night the Mother&daughter alone the truth that will be revealed will haunt you.Once you pick The Ice Twins up you will not be able to put it down.
This story would be a parent of twins worse nightmare! Great story so far. Can't wait to read the rest. Grabs you right from the start and doesn't let go.
I found the mother really irritating as she was not a good parent. The book was extremely compelling and I really wanted to know what was happening. A good read.
