In prison on drug charges, I felt inspired to start writing--to bring a view never before seen, and to show that the path we are on is only building bigger criminals. http://www.amazon.com/-/e/B00571NY5A I'm married to my dream girl ballerina, Sanette, who plays Annette in Upon Release, the sequel to Roll Call, and my greatest accomplishment post release is the review I got from Kirkus- ISBN: 978-1-4392-4608-5 Kirkus Discoveries, Nielsen Business Media discoveries@kirkusreviews.com
A harrowing, down-and-dirty depiction—sometimes reminiscent of Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic—of America’s war on drugs, by former dealer and California artist Langohr.
Locked up for a decade on drugs charges and immersed in both philosophical tomes and modern pulp thrillers, Langohr penned Roll Call, a light fictionalization of his troubled life. “I went from obsessively pacing my cell and wondering and worrying about how I was actually going to get my attorney to defend me, and how many years this sentence would bring,” writes Langohr in an afterword, “to realizing that if I find a way to write what’s in my head, I can find a way out of this hole I had put myself in!” The book’s hero is Benny “B.J.” Johnson, a kid who grows up in a troubled home. His parents are essentially good, but they fight often. Eventually, his mother escapes, departing in a “small car with over a hundred thousand miles on it and some clothes.” From there, B.J.’s descent is all but inevitable—he hangs out with the wrong crowd and starts dealing. But the author is not content to tell the story from only the protagonist’s perspective. Instead, he toggles the angle like a master director, taking in the stories of American lawmen, Mexican dealers, outlaw bikers, prison guards, pawn-shop dealers and a dude named El Diablo who says things like, “I have a master plan that I am willing to share with you.” Roll Call makes for exciting reading—gunplay, covert operations and backhanded deals abound. The author succeeds by wisely using his experiences to fuel the narrative. A vivid, clamorous account of the war on drugs.
Not terrible and he does prove one thing, he can market a book...like by making this free on kindle unlimited.
That being said, there are better books to help you through self publishing.
This book is like an egotistical, narcissistic pat on his own back, with links to everything my the author, every prayer he ever wrote, very religious piece of crap he ever signed his name to, every link to his “Praise be to god” shit n FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc., etc...
I get it. You were horrible, you went to prison for years and found out that god forgives you for everything you don’t want to take blame for..blame everything bad on satan and everything good on am imaginary invisible man in the sky and you can suck in 20,000,000 gullible religious people.
I have read dozens of books on the topic so it's getting harder and harder to find new ideas and fresh approaches. I did not learn anything new from this book, but I am rating it as if it was the first publishing book I ever read. If you know nothing about publishing on kdp, you will find it useful. However, some of the ideas do not work (or don't work anymore) as effectively as the writer suggests. Giving away free books, for example, won't get you as far as it used to. Also, not investing in effective marketing and distrusting all except one of these services would be shooting yourself in the foot.
this book is a game changer full of all kinds of good advice I was like a blind man who could not see past the writing process but this book really opened my eyes to the real world and not just the fantasies that were dancing around in my mind .quality and valuable insights I am really looking forward to implementing some of the lessons in this book if you understand the difference between cost and value do yourself a favor and buy this book if you don't understand price is what something costs but what's it worth if it was life changing information it's priceless easy to read and full of useful information
I found this book to be incredibly jam-packed with useful information. Most books that I read are fantasy and sci-fi, or gaming. Of those non-fiction books that I read nearly all are either scientific, theological, or paranormal/occult. This book was an exception and part of a small group of exceptions that I have recently purchased. There are things that I would like to publish and I found Mr. Langohr's book to be head and shoulders about the others regarding the same topic that I have purchased and read. It makes me feel ready to put a few books out, both in my vocation and in other areas. As I proceed I will be repeatedly consulting this book, without question.
Awesome book to intro into the tricks of marketing your self published book.
Solid, has great examples of how to give your book the very best chance of selling.
I have been reading absolutely tons of books on Kindle publishing, and at parts I had a feeling I had read the content before, but that is just because there are some solid evergreen principles to get through and any book covering it, needs to include those tips.
Also heaps of new tricks too.
Glen's personal story is quite inspiring and cool to see what a great author he is.
The thing I love about this book, is the author true honesty about everything he had to say in this book. I truly felt he was doing his best to explain everything the best he can. In this book other books I have bought and finished reading the past few months, and more boasting about them selfs and how much money they make instead of getting straight to the point. The example he gives and no fluff was the best thing about this book.
The Best Book On Self-publishing on Amazon Kindle/Audible!
Wow! I've read at least 8-10 books on the same subject, but this one by bestselling author Glenn Langohr stands out as the most authoritative, best researched, with most experience, with the most professional advice and easy to use and to follow guidance.
Buy this book and you will never need another one on the subject.
Some ebook authors drag things out and repeat incessantly, just to get their word found up so they can qualify for this or that promotion. This is so annoying and shows their true motive. This author packs more information into a short book, in a genuine effort to help.
Some excellent advice for new writers. The author created an easy to read guide that moves quickly and offers great insight into the Amazon publishing process. Continued success and thank you.
I highly recommend this book. Glen shares all the ropes and hoops you have to jump over to getting your book publish. He dies it in a simple and easy way. Lays each step of the way down.
I’ve been a Indie Author for a while now. I have written many books and learned a lot about self-publishing. However, one’s learning is never done, and this book has just reminded me of that.
I have been studying How and Where to Publish my almost-finished book for months now. This little book gave me more Usable and Encouraging Information than books two or three times longer:) thank you
This is very informative, especially for an old guy, born before B/W TV. I highlighted and re-read the highlights and am now in the process of getting my book launched on Amazon/Kindle. In a couple of months, we will see how well I absorbed and applied the great instruction/guide manual.
This books is short and to the point. Many will say, oh I already knew that. There were several things I already knew, but there were also a couple of gems that made it worth twice the price.
This is a clear guide of useful information for anyone who would ever thought of publishing their writing. The author tells of his journey and shares his tips. It has inspired to write again and just maybe given me some courage to publish something.
This book shares a lot of knowledge on how to publish your own books and makes the process seem pretty simple. It is a great book for the beginner author and publisher.
The read is good overall. Makes the complications of self publishing a lot easier for beginner authors. Eventually you'll have to find your comfort place
I loved how amazingly detailed Glenn was throughout the entire book. Always explaining and making things that should or would sounds super difficult feel like a breeze. Glenn was pleasingly articulate about every step of the process and how he worked through trial and error to get to the point he is. I loved that he was willing to share his challenges and things that did not work with us. I truly felt informed and eased after reading Glenn's' book, some of these types of books are stale and very wordy, Glenn was able to make it friendly and freeing, is the only way I can think to describe it.
