Twice the business, twice the danger and Twice as Fatal. PI Jarvis Mann has two cases he is working, making his professional and personal life twice as difficult.
Ray Malone is a promising college football star whose career is derailed by injuries When he disappears, close friend Jarvis is recruited by Ray’s father to locate him. After tracking him down a video is sent of Ray with the warning of it going public, threatening his career and those that love him.
Case two has landlord Kate Tanner hiring Jarvis to gather evidence against her cheating, thieving husband so she can divorce him. As Jarvis investigates he learns of the husband’s connection to a powerful man, with a dangerously perverted agenda that crosses into Kate’s life with deadly consequences.
Across the Rocky Mountain Front Range Jarvis tries to balance both cases, each dragging him deeper into different sleazy underworlds, jeopardizing him, his clients and their families. With danger and death all around him, he somehow must rescue everyone before this fatal business claims the lives of all involved, his life and the one he is growing to love.
Award-winning Author R Weir lives in the Mile-High City with his family, where the Rocky Mountain High isn't always achieved with an herbal substance. When not glued to the computer, he relaxes by enjoying the outdoors and traveling in his motorhome. His writing delves into genres with gritty investigators exploring mystery, crime, suspense, and thrills, with involved plots and unexpected twists. Featuring former US Marshal Hunter Divine, a dire, determined man searching for salvation in his broken life. Private eye Jarvis Mann is tough and snarky, with as many faults as virtues. And his newest series featuring retired police officer Donnie Steel and his K-9 companion, Kogel. Characters exhibiting traces of his sense of humor, though he’s not nearly as tough and fearless. Though no evil stands a chance against his written word!

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and was excepting a lot from this instalment, I wasn’t disappointed. This book starts off just after where book 1 finishes, with not too much time passing. Jarvis, this time, being asked to look into a possible cheating husband case. But as we get deeper in the story, we discover there is much more to it than Jarvis first thought. There are two cases involved in this book and R Weir did a great job of intertwining them together. This book had a steady pace and I wanted to keep turning the pages, never getting bored. I really look forward to the next book!
All my reviews can be found at: http://jessicasreadingroom.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jarvis Mann is back! Twice as Fatal is the second full length novel by R. Weir. The first was a short story introduction to Jarvis. Twice as Fatal picks up where Tracking a Shadow concluded. This time Jarvis is working two cases:
1. His landlord Kate is convinced her husband is cheating on her and she wants evidence of that. 2. His friend Bill’s son Ray has gone missing. Of course the two cases end up being connected and R. Weir does a good job connecting them.
We are really getting to know Jarvis as a person now. He is a flawed man whose weakness is women. And he really likes looking at pretty women. He sees a lot of that in this book. It is a nice change to see that the protagonist of the novel is not perfect, as none of us are. We also see where certain things happen in the cases that make Jarvis uncomfortable. That was welcome to see as he hasn’t become jaded in his job.
Jarvis’ relationship with Melissa is continued, but is strained. She is working a lot of hours on a court case and is thinking about going to school to become a lawyer. You can’t help but to root for Jarvis and Melissa to work out. He does become conflicted some in the book and you see he doesn’t want to mess up again like he did previously. I was hoping Jarvis wouldn’t make that same mistake again!
**A warning to potential readers**:
The book does take a turn of an adult nature. A “gentleman’s club” is involved. There are a variety of sexual exploits including S&M and violence including torture. There is also a lot of profanity. It is graphic with some of those activities. This book is definitely not for the kids! If you have issues with those types of activities, you may want to stay away from this novel. Some of it was a little difficult for me to read.
Twice as Fatal could be read as a standalone novel, but you would not see everything connected from the previous novels. I would recommend reading the others before reading Twice as Fatal. I also recommend Twice as Fatal. I do like Jarvis and look forward to reading the next in the series: Blood Brothers!
I received a copy from R. Weir in exchange for an honest review.
Twice as Fatal by R. Weir is the third book in the Jarvis Mann Detective series. I give this novel 4 out of 5 stars. This time Jarvis has two interesting cases full of twists and danger. Once again, Jarvis is contacted by a woman with man trouble. This time it's his landlady, Katie, who is fed up with her husband's behavior. She needs to get info on him to gain the upper hand in a possible divorce. Jarvis thinks this is easy money as the husband has already had issues in the past. But then again, nothing ever goes according to plan with his investigations. Jarvis underestimates the case & swiftly finds out how dangerous it's about to become. The husband is in deep with his employer & can't climb out of the hole he's dug. People are sent after Katie and her children which triggers Jarvis' protective instinct. Jarvis goes all in, placing himself in harm’s way, to protect her family.
While he is in over his head with Katie's case, an old friend, Bill Malone, reaches out to him for help. Bill's son, Ray a college football star, disappears without any explanation. None of his friends have any clue where to find him. Bill fears the worst that Ray is in trouble he can't resolve on his own. He needs Jarvis to track his son down sooner than later. This isn't the first time he's run off, but he isn't found so easily this time. Ray has had several concussions from football over the years causing him to sit out the current year. With more free time on his hands, Ray has got himself in trouble that could potentially ruin his career or end his life. Jarvis always puts himself in the line of fire to help his clients, and this case is no different.
Jarvis has more than enough to worry about with his cases, but then his personal life starts having issues too. His girlfriend, Melissa, isn't really happy to have her boyfriend in danger all the time and who could blame her? This is yet another engaging story of the witty detective Jarvis Mann. The cases feel resolved in a real way, and it's nice to see both his personal and professional life. I look forward to reading future stories involving this charismatic detective.
I am hooked, R Weir you did it again. I am not going to spoil it for the True Believers, as Stan Lee would say "Excelsior!" I am sure that I could navigate through some of the streets of Colorado just by the vivid and very detailed descriptions provided by R. Weir. The plot is incredible with twists and turns. The characters are also well developed and the description of them gives you a perfect image of them and makes it easier to see the words you read flow like a movie on the screen. This round Jarvis may have bitten off more than he can chew; two cases, trying to mend a relationship, two sets of muscle bound thugs that can't wait to get their hands on him and R. Weir brings Jarvis' world to you the only way he knows how - fast and hard. Mark my word, we will be seeing more of Jarvis Mann as this series will become a classic and may soon be on the big screen or turned into a TV series.
Twice as Fatal is the third book in the Jarvis Mann Detective Novel series by R. Weir. I have really enjoyed this series so far and this book didn’t disappoint. Mr. Weir really hit his stride with this book. This is his best so far- there is even more depth to the story and the character development; and more intrigue and suspense. Jarvis Mann doubles his workload and puts himself in twice as much danger, by investigating two cases simultaneously. His first case sees him hired by his landlady (Kate) to investigate her husband Jack, as he has been acting quite strange lately and Kate has caught him stealing money from her business account. She is suspicious that he may be having an affair and needs Jarvis to find some irrefutable proof to confront him with, and get a divorce. The second job was bought to him by his good friend Bill, whose son Ray has gone missing and Bill needs Jarvis’s help to track Ray down. Ray attends college, where he plays football- having sustained a couple of serious concussions over a short period of time he is yet to fully recover. The injuries have impaired Ray’s cognitive ability and he has trouble making good decisions or choosing wisely. This isn’t the first time he has disappeared, either. Jarvis seems to think that it will be a simple, straightforward investigation that should only take a few days. But sometimes things aren’t always as they seem and Jarvis may have underestimated the level of danger that would come from accepting these cases. Even more surprisingly, the cases end up being connected- Jarvis and I did not see that coming! The conception of this story was brilliant- the books complex plot was masterfully handled by Mr. Weir, who wove all the many intricate threads into a superb piece of work. I loved that he ‘beefed’ up this story more, with quite explicit adult themes and situations. I think the Jarvis Mann novels would translate beautifully into a Television series. Jarvis won me over in the first book and charms me still. I was delighted that we got to see a little more of what makes him tick through this story, and as in the other books; we are still listening in to his witty, slightly sarcastic inner dialogue- as he goes about his investigations. I was so happy to see that he and Melissa were back together, I really want them to work out. The story also enabled me to find out more about Melissa, as her relationship with Jarvis grew deeper. There were numerous ‘baddies’ for Jarvis to contend with, which added an extra element of danger to the already ominous situations he found himself in. The story is fast paced, but with a smooth flow that allowed me to read it in an evening. It can be read as a standalone, but as it contains characters and references from the other books, I would suggest reading the other books first to enhance your reading experience. The mystery/investigation is wrapped up quite well- but the intriguing circumstances of the storyline means that the book ended on a bit of a cliff hanger. I am now chaffing at the bit to get my hands on the next book to assure myself that everything works out.
I give Twice as Fatal (book 3 in the Jarvis Mann Detective series) by R. Weir five stars.
Jarvis’ landlady Katie is waiting outside his door one day when he gets home. The look on her face says it’s more than idle chitchat. She wants to hire him to find out what her husband is up to. She has had enough and needs ground for divorce. He has had issues in the past and it should be fairly easy to get evidence for her. Should take a few days at the most. Famous last words. Turns out he is in much deeper than anyone thought. He can’t make amends to his employer and bad people start coming after Katie and her children. Jarvis feels compelled to help out any way possible to get rid of all the trouble, but he seems to put himself in danger too.
At the same time, a friend of his on the police force, Bill Malone, calls and needs help. His son has disappeared from college again. This is the second time this has happened and Jarvis heads up to once again track Ray down. But he’s not at the last place he was hiding out and none of his friends have seen him. Turns out he has had a couple concussions from football. Not only is he not allowed to play for the rest of the year, but he has changed too. He may have used his hot shot football player status too much and gotten into trouble. Now Jarvis has to not only find Ray and keep his parents from worrying, he has to help him out of the deep hole he has dug himself. Trouble like this could ruin Ray’s career as a football player and his life. And if Jarvis isn’t careful, he’ll step into the noose too.
Not to mention the havoc all of this is creating on his love life. His girlfriend, whom he cares deeply for, is having trouble with all of the danger he is putting himself into. Plus he is still trying to redeem himself from the previous mistake he made. Can their relationship hold on?
This is the third book in the series and I quite enjoy them. Jarvis is your typical private dick, leather jacket, sarcastic sense of humor, doesn’t do well when being told what to do, but also has a heart of gold. Not only is the story engaging, it seems like it’s all wrapped up about half way through. The cases seem solved. Then there are so many twists and turns, I guarantee you will not see all of them. I love these books and hope the series goes on forever.
R Weir has done it again in this riveting mystery thriller! “Twice as Fatal” is the second full length novel featuring PI Jarvis Mann. I recommend reading “Tracking a Shadow” first so you have the backstory that is referenced throughout this book. Jarvis Mann is back with two more cases to juggle. The first case is helping his landlord Kate get information about her husband Jack’s dealings. She knows he is up to no good and stealing money from her regularly. So Kate has Jarvis follow him so she can get enough information against Jack for a restraining order and to file for a divorce. The other case Jarvis is working on is for his cop friend, Bill. Bill’s son, Ray is away at college and has been having some major issues. Ray is on the football team and has recently suffered from two concussions in a short time. Ray hasn’t fully recovered from his injuries and has been making poor decisions because of it. He has been disappearing for days at a time and Bill needs Jarvis’ help to track down Ray and get him help. In the midst of all his work, Jarvis is still trying to save his relationship with Melissa that was nearly ruined by Jarvis’ last big case. Can Jarvis figure out these newest mysteries without getting himself killed in the process? You MUST READ to find out! These books are so good!! “Twice as Fatal” was such a rollercoaster! Just when you think you know what’s going on, another twist comes into play and I was left guessing at every turn! A bit on the graphic side for my taste, but being in the seedy world of PI work as he is, it’s understandable and it isn’t just violence for the sake of violence. I really enjoy Jarvis Mann and how he grows in this book. He was a tough guy to like in “Tracking a Shadow” but he is really trying to be a better man for Melissa and is trying so hard to not let his job sully that. Jarvis is in danger nearly this whole book so every page I felt like I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. The ending was absolutely crazy though! I can’t wait to see what is next for Jarvis Mann! I give “Twice as Fatal” five stars!
4 star review Ahh I’m loving this series! Twice as Fatal by R. Weir did not fail to keep me absolutely glued to it until the very end! This author has an amazing ability to keep you guessing until the very end and even then I was completely wrong about what would happen! Twice as Fatal is the third book in the Jarvis Mann series and I would definitely recommend that they are read in order because although it’s a new investigation certain characters and situations intertwine from each book. I have to say I may secretly have a little thing for this sexy Private Investigator! In this story we see Jarvis hired to work on 2 new cases. His one case is tracking down Ray Malone, the young son of a close friend, who has gone missing from college and the second case is his Landlord Kate. She hires him to gather evidence to use against her husband by tracking him so that she can divorce him. The more Jarvis investigates the more dangerous the cases become. He finds out that Kate’s husband is involved with a very powerful man. As Jarvis tries to balance both cases he finds himself dragged deeper into different sleazy underworlds, jeopardizing him, his clients and their families. I liked the twits in this story, it’s not just a detective novel, there’s plenty of action, nail biting moments and this story in particular has a lot more adult themes. There could possibly be triggers in this novel and some of the themes covered include violence, S&M and there is graphic detail about some of the torturous things that may happen. Even I admit to skimming a few of these parts but even with them in I still enjoyed the story overall. I really like the authors writing style, I find his books easy to read and full of detail. I can imagine the scenery that he is talking about and this is something I enjoy in the books I read. I know one thing for sure I am definitely looking forward to seeing what case Jarvis looks into next and I have my fingers crossed for him and Melissa!
If you want suspense, plot twists, murder sex and romance this is the book for you. Jarvis needed another client getting his brakes and tires fixed had put a huge hole in his bank account. Arriving back at his home office he finds Kate his landlady waiting for him. Kate is wanting his help in finding out what her husband is doing as he has been taking a huge amount of money from the business bank account. Kate has a feeling he has gone back to his old behaviour of drinking, gambling and cheating. As per usual Jarvis lets her know how much his services costs and gets the relevant information from Kate that he needs. He also gets a phone call from Bill who he classes as a friend letting him know he needs help as his son Ray has gone missing again. He has also rekindled his relationship with Melissa after he lost her previously for sleeping with his ex client Emily. He needs to go to the University that Ray attends to see what he can find out. He finds the football coach who gives him a name of a person to talk to. He is told to find Casey, but Casey is on the way to class and will talk to him later. He has spoken to Ariela again but she stopped seeing him so doesn't know where he is. Meeting up with Casey he has been given the name Shawna another girl he has been seeing but she tells Jarvis she stopped seeing him when she found out he was sleeping with Ariela. Following Kate's husband Jarvis finds out he is collecting money and handing out packages. He has also caught him kissing another woman and follows them to a condo where he comes out much later. The woman is Dona and a sex slave for someone else, who if he finds out what Dona is doing will have her life in danger. Jarvis hatches a plan that will have both cases colliding, but does not give him the results he is looking for.
Twice as Fatal: A Jarvis Mann Detective Novel By: R. Weir 5 out of 5 stars
The story Twice as Fatal: A Jarvis Mann Detective Novel by R. Weir is a thrilling private investigator mystery. PI Jarvis Mann has two cases that he is working on and it is making his life twice as difficult. First case is of Ray Malone a promising college football star who after his career being derailed by injuries, has disappeared. His father, who is a close friend of Jarvis, is asked to locate him. Case two is for his landlord Kate Tanner. She wants evidence on her cheating, thieving husband so she can divorce him. Juggling both case takes him deeper in sleazy underworlds which jeopardize both him, his clients, and their families. He has to work fast and hard to keep alive and rescue everyone.
This is what a PI book is all about. This story is so fast and furious that you have to remember to tell yourself to breath. I love the action, danger, and the seat gripping tension. The worlds that this story takes you into is not the prettiest, but with Jarvis Mann there to guide you through you will come out alive. The character of Jarvis Mann is awesome. He is exactly the kind of guy you think of when you think private investigator. He has a wicked sense of humor, a take charge personality, and more guts than most detectives. Being in the business that his is in, Jarvis has many acquaintances that assist him along the way, many who consider him a friend, and one special lady who he loves dearly. Once you get started on this book it is hard to put down. You keep turning the pages as you want to know what happens next.
If you looking for a book that is a fast, wild ride though worlds that most of us would never dream of entering, this is the book for you. As there is some adult language and situations I would recommend for a mature audience.
Twice as Fatal is another great read by R. Weir about Jarvis Mann, PI. It is recommended to read Weir’s The Case of the Missing Bubble Gum Card and Tracking a Shadow before diving into this story, in order to understand Jarvis Mann. There are some minor references to those first books during Twice as Fatal. This journey takes Jarvis into the sex for sale business, with situations beyond a regular strip club. He must also help his landlady, Kate, get enough information about her husband so she can divorce him. However, when these two cases come together, will anyone survive? When both sides finally meet it gets a little crazy. Good guys turn bad, bad turn good, every man and woman for themselves. Or so it seems. Weir does a good job of keeping us guessing.
“You’re welcome,” he said, while gracefully gliding out of the room, leaving behind a powerful presence. I may have met the most dangerous man I’d ever encountered, and deep down I was thrilled he had been on my side."
After reading all three books, I’m getting use to Weir’s writing style, which is very descriptive, bordering on wordy. But no matter, Twice as Fatal, is a very good story. There are well developed characters and even situations that kept this reader engaged and turning pages. This story also brings Jarvis and Melissa together again, see reference from Tracking a Shadow. But will this case cause them problems like the last one did? Will it be too much for both of them? And just when you think Jarvis and Melissa will get to ride off into the sun set…Weir brings us back to reality and throws or more accurately, shoots away the dream! Really looking forward to the next adventure. Here’s hoping there’s a fairy tale ending coming!
Private Investigator Jarvis Mann returns in the third instalment, the story picking up where book two ended so diving straight into the current storyline. Jarvis is currently working a case for his associate Bill Malone, whose son Ray had gone missing twice in the last month and he had asked Jarvis to find him and sort out what was going on. His talents are even more in demand when Kate his landlady and also the owner of the upstairs hair salon stands waiting for him when he arrives at his flat and office on the Saturday morning. Kate wants Jarvis to snoop on her husband as she suspects his bad habits from a few years previous have returned, gambling, drinking and cheating. Money had gone from her business account and enough is enough so she was hiring him to sort the issues and confirm her suspicions before she got divorce proceedings underway, no more forgiveness this time around. If this is not enough, Jarvis is trying to rekindle his relationship with Melissa after the major mess he made of it last time. However, two cases and a new girlfriend to please could only mean his time being stretched thin and when things are not as they appear at first sight, danger is lurking ready to pounce, but who will become the victim and how can Jarvis keep his clients and loved one safe. The suave PI returns for another thriller case or should I say cases, with both of them seeming simple and quick to resolve but things are not that simple and the story develops leaving you being drawn in to the power play by others. Great story and again the descriptions by the author make you feel part of the book.
Twice As Fatal – R Weir – 4 stars This is the third in the Jarvis Mann series. This can be read as a stand-alone, but I recommend reading Tracking a Shadow first. There are cross over characters that need a bit more explaining if you haven’t read the first full length novel in the series. There is also a novella called The Case of the Missing Bubble Gum which I highly recommend, but it doesn’t need to be read in order to understand books 2 & 3. Jarvis Mann is once again called upon to solve a case. In this book, he’s solving 2 simultaneously while wooing his girlfriend and maintaining and nurturing relationships that come in handy “on the job”. Both cases intertwine a bit into each other’s worlds and it was enjoyable seeing how it all fleshed out. It is also nice to see how Jarvis is able to maintain his dedication to his girlfriend when surrounded by beautiful women. He has never been described as such, so I’m not sure why I get the visual, but I picture him as a Peter Falk in “Columbo” type of guy when in reality he’s more like Nathan Fillion in “Castle”. This story has really good guys, really bad guys, misguided women, a torture dungeon, a strip club, and one character who is “an indentured servant with benefits”. The chapters are short, the story flows, it is not a cliffhanger but I can imagine that we haven’t seen the last of this cast of characters that Jarvis Mann deals with while solving these 2 mysteries
Twice as Fatal is the second full-length novel is the Jarvis Mann Detective series by R. Weir. In this book Jarvis is helping his cop friend locate his missing adult son, Ray and also agrees to take on a case for his landlord, Kate who wants to prove that her husband is up to no good. He does end up finding Ray but has to go deep into the underbelly of this city to find him, only to realize that he is in deep with some scary people. He also does prove that Kate’s husband is a lying, cheating, POS, but also realizes that the company he keeps runs in the same under belly as his other case. On top of all of this Jarvis is also trying to work on his relationship with Melissa since he messed up royally in the last book. What he thinks is going to be easy clean cut cases quickly turns into a long tangled web of secrets, lies and deceit. He soon realizes that both cases are related and suddenly he fears for his life and the lives or all around him. This book had me sitting on the edge of my seat, there were actually several times that things happened and I didn’t see it coming at all. R. Wier does a great job painting a picture that makes you feel like you are right there with the characters. Oh and Jarvis’s internal dialogue is hilarious and adds a good amount of humor into this book. If you are looking for a good, murder mystery then this is the book for you!
Twice as Fatal (Jarvis Mann Detective Series Book 3) R. Weir 5 Stars
Jarvis is hired by his landlord Kate to see what her husband Jake is doing behind her back. Jack is gone all day and when he comes home at 3am every night and sleeps in the basement. Kate has noticed that money has been missing from the business accounts. When Jarvis starts to follow Jack he notices that Jack is involved with people that Kate should not not be associated with. Jarvis gets Kates the evidence she needs and helps her to get Jack out of her life. Bill is a Denver police officer, when his son Ray comes up missing Bill asks Jarvis to find him. Ray is a college student on a football scholarship. Ray has been having many health problems because of football injuries. Ray got involved with a gentleman’s club, which likes to blackmail people. Can Jarvis get Ray out of these people’s hooks before Ray or someone he loves gets hurts? This book keeps you reading, wondering if these two cases somehow connect to each other. On top of trying to solve both cases, he is trying to have a long-term relationship. I love how this author can have so many different situations going on with the charter and you still want to keep reading. R. Weir has grabbed and kept my attention during the three books I have read. Defiantly will read more by this author.
I am actually loving these series. I have devoured the books so quickly. This is a different style of genre to what I am used to. However, I am all up for trying new things and I am so glad that I have! I am so glad that I have read this series, it had been such an interesting one.
Jarvis Mann, had quite a busy time in this book. He not only had to deal with a woman who thought her husband was cheating on her, but he had to try and hunt for his friend’s son who had gone missing. Throughout the story, he had encountered people that any normal person would not want to meet. It was amazing how he could track people down. Mystery books are amazing and I have discovered from reading this series that I would not make a good detective because I could not even guess any of it. I did feel sorry for Ray, the son who went missing. It is difficult to find a new path after the one that you thought you were going to get is taken away from you. I did feel somewhat empathetic to him.
‘I don’t know for sure what happened… I’m losing what I loved, which is football. I was a bigshot on campus and now I’m nothing’
The twists and turns in this book kept me guessing the whole way through. I have immensely enjoyed this series. R Weir, you have created another wonderful book.
Twice as Fatal by R. Weir. I give this book 5/5 stars. The theme of this book is a PI gets some second chance at love. This is the third book in the Jarvis Mann Detective Novel's. Melissa is the girl who left Jarvis the first time. She decides to give him a second chance. Her life is flipped when a case of Jarvis’ gets out of hand. The quote I chose for her is her letting her guard down: “I can’t wait to see you. I love you!” Jarvis is a private investigator. He is helping his landlady with a problem, but when his buddy's son goes missing again things go south. His life is pretty hectic for being a PI. The quote I chose for him is something here says at the beginning of the book(seriously, if you want this to make any sense read the book!): “Pest Control. A snake is loose and I think I just found it.” This is the first book I've read by R. Weir. I really liked everything about the book. I felt mostly scared throughout the book. I was instantly in the book from the beginning. I highly recommend this if you like PI adventures. Check out this amazing author, series and any books she has.
Jarvis Mann is back with another amazing adventure. With two cases taking over his life he may have bitten more than he can chew. The author’s writing style is very detailed and visual. I enjoyed reading this book from beginning to end. The first case has him trying to find a football player. Hired by the father Jarvis sets out and finds Ray. Thinking it’s over a video is threatened to be released if Ray that could destroy his present and future. The second case his landlord has him following her husband. She thinks he’s either gambling, cheating and taking her money. When Jarvis finds that the husband is connected to the wrong people. Life just got harder. A must read if you have fallen for Jarvis Mann. This author creates magic with her words and visual detail. Great job!
Even though I was a little disappointed with Jarvis in the first book in this series he totally won me over in this book. I like his style and his humor and his compassion for others is a plus. He's a very down to earth kinda guy, someone you can relate to. Lots of action and I loved the way the two cases in this story ended up being connected. Nice twist to the ending. Looking forward to the next book in this series. Highly recommend.
This is an author I started reading at the beginning of the year and I am so glad that I found him. He writes murder so good that while you are reading you are wondering if your doors are locked. The PI I just love this character and that is what he is a real character. R hit this one right out of the field for a home run!
This is the third instalment in this series, and Jarvis had two cases to work on. The first is for a friend who is looking for his missing son, and a landlady who suspects her husband is cheating on her and has resorted to going back to his old habits. This is a good story which had me intrigued throughout, and I look forward to reading more from this author.
Wow this book packed a punch with 2 cases therefore twice the drama. This author has you continually guessing what is going on but in a good way. Look forward to reading rest of series.
Another adventure with Jarvis with many twists and turns. He is working on 2 cases with extremely dangerous people. All I can tell you is that he survives to solve more cases, but how?
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Twice as Fatal is R. Weir’s third Jarvis Mann Detective novel. It is an engaging page-turner with an intricate plot and a wide variety of interesting characters. Weir weaves in characters and references from the prior Jarvis Mann books, however, each book can be thoroughly enjoyed as a stand-alone novel.
Kate, Jarvis’ landlord, hires him for a relatively easy job that morphs into a complex, sinister situation when Jarvis’ other seemingly easy case intersects it. Ruthless groups with shady dealings from two towns in Colorado might be more than Jarvis can handle.
Jarvis continues to develop as a character and as a person. In Twice as Fatal, his moral fiber and good manners continue to show, and he is putting in great effort to be a better person who is worthy of the second chance he is being given by former love interest, Melissa. The cast of antagonists is huge and foreboding. Readers get to know more of Melissa as her relationship with Jarvis deepens. Emily White and Brandon Sparks who first appeared in Tracking a Shadow, have small roles in Twice as Fatal. I have to admit that I didn’t care for Weir’s adding Emily to the mix in Twice as Fatal, but par for the course, Jarvis Mann’s life is never simple and never seems to go as planned. I did appreciate Jarvis' sardonic commentary about the situation and author R. Weir's apparent wry sense of humor.
The book is fairly clean and the relationships are PG until the antagonists are given dialogue in the last quarter of the book. Their language is gruff, graphic and banal to depict the extent of their depravity juxtapose to Jarvis' and his friends' inherit goodness. While most of the book would be appropriate for young teens on up, the last part of the book might be too graphic for younger readers.
Twice as Fatal is fast-paced. The dialogue is interesting and feels natural (not forced or stiff). Weir has added in detailed descriptions that truly paint the scene for the reader. This detective whodunnit was a great escape that has me hooked on R. Weir and the series.

P.i Jarvis Mann is back and ready to go with not one but two cases this time first case is his landlord Kate has came to him suspecting her husband is cheating on her and she has come to Jarvis for him to get hard evidence to see if its all In her head or what she is suspecting is true. The second case is his friend bill coming to him because his son ray has gone missing and is hoping Jarvis can find him and get answers. The one thing I wasn't suspecting is the two cases to be connected in the end r.weir done a amazing job bringing them both together. Jarvis gets abit uncomfortable due these cases with some of the things that come up which is good because you see that Jarvis is still affected by his work. We are still learning so much about the Jarvis Mann but the one thing we do know Is he weakness is women gorgeous women but this also make this his biggest flaw too. Hes still in a relationship with Melissa but lately there have found its became strained between them due to long hours and school that Melissa is doing so she can become a lawyer but let's just hope they can pull through as they are great together but Jarvis do mess up but hopefully not to much so they can't be together anymore. I really enjoyed twice as fatal I love how r.weir was able to bring the story together and keep you on your toes with all the twists and turns. I don't normally read mystery books but I have enjoyed jarvis Mann I love his character he has flaws but he's a joy to read about his life and work and again that’s done to a great job from r.weir. I was captivated, found myself not able to stop reading cause I just wanted to find out what happens next. Amazing!!!!
“Twice as Fatal” is the third novel in the Jarvis Mann Detective series and returns with the same gripping, detailed writing style that drew readers in and refused to let go.
Jarvis is still a down-on-his-luck private investigator living case to case. But when it rains, it pours and he suddenly finds himself with two cases to solve. During all this, Jarvis is still working on building a relationship with Melissa.
Kate, his landlord and the owner of the beauty shop upstairs, wants Jarvis to investigate her husband so she can get his no-good backside out of her life for good. But the case turns out to be more than a quick snoop for proof when shots are fired and a body turns up.
Bill is an old friend and police officer who hires Jarvis to find his missing son, Ray. Is he laying low or has something more sinister happened to him? And when a video surfaces threatening everything Ray has worked for; will it raise more questions than answers if he’s found?
The author brings his rich, detailed writing style to the next installment of this series and makes it easy for the reader to get lost in the world he creates. Jarvis is led to the more seedier aspects of life in this book and is a far cry from the first novella. But that is what I enjoy the most – the character is evolving and not playing it safe. The world has a darker (and kinkier) side and the author is not afraid to explore it.
I highly recommend this third installment and recommend reading them in order. They are standalones, but I feel the reader will get a richer experience by following the order.
Twice as Fatal is a Jarvis Mann Detective Novel by R Weir. In this novel we Jarvis is hot on the trail of another case. When Jarvis is asked by his landlord to follow her husband to see what he is up to, he figures it is an easy enough case so why not. Too bad things are never as easy as they seem, and when you add in doing a favor for a friend whose son has gone missing things just keep taking twist and turns you never see coming. Can Jarvis get the cases solved and get out of the jams he gets caught in? While getting the cases solved he is having a very hard time being able to deal with his relationship with both his and Melissa's jobs getting the way. While the plot is not necessarily my cup of tea the story was very well written so it was able to get and maintain my attention, though I could do without the commentary on every single womans appearance in the story. It seemed to get a little tedious at times. Although it seemed repetitive somewhat I really did like the mystery of finding out what exactly is going on with the characters. Every new book we get introduced to new characters and sucked into their worlds which is nice, because being able to get to know different people while having the same basic story line is a different and nice concept. If you haven't read the Jarvis Mann series and like detective mysteries I believe this would be right up your alley and you should definitely give it a chance.
