Plot Summary
Mr. Xie was recently hired by the Curly Haired Company. For a significant weekly allowance, he was required to sit in an office and copy articles from a book, while in the meantime his assistant looked after his shop. He had answered an advertisement in the paper and although hundreds of people applied, he was the only one selected because of his very curly hair. When the company unexpectedly closes, Mr. Xie visits Gao Ming (Sherlock Holmes) with his strange story. Gao Ming is certain something is not right, but will he solve the mystery in time?

Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a British writer and physician. He created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and fifty-six short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes stories are milestones in the field of crime fiction.
Doyle was a prolific writer. In addition to the Holmes stories, his works include fantasy and science fiction stories about Professor Challenger, and humorous stories about the Napoleonic soldier Brigadier Gerard, as well as plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction, and historical novels. One of Doyle's early short stories, "J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement" (1884), helped to popularise the mystery of the brigantine Mary Celeste, found drifting at sea with no crew member aboard.

Pretty good for what it is (a graded reader). Done with a good spirit, and it was fun to have a real book that I could mostly read. The pictures are fun, too. I found some of the new vocabulary in other places soon afterwards, which was a fun reinforcement. If I bought another one, though, I might get a digital copy, as there are additional helpful features available with those. Still, it's great to have a hard copy!

I read this book in order to get used to traditional characters in preparation for my online reading test before attending Chinese school in Taiwan. The book served its purpose while being moderately entertaining.

Love Mandarin Companion struggling readers series. Read this in a jiffy and feeling really good to complete. Mandarin Companion simplifies plots/story lines from original language. Highly recommended for struggling Chinese language readers like me!

If you've finished HSK3, this is a good book to read. A complete package. There are also discussion questions at the back to practice thinking in Chinese. I'll def recommend!
