From the author of The Story of Awkward comes the second book in the stand alone Embrace Yourself series, An Introvert's Tale.
What happens when you lose your self-control, when saying no suddenly becomes easier than saying yes?
Maia Parker is everyone's go-to girl. She's smart, kindhearted, and involved in every charity a graduating high school senior can be involved in. She's never been good at saying "no". Until now ...
Maia has always been better at observing life. Instead of confronting people, she avoids confrontation. She keeps a notebook with things she "should have said" scribbled between the things she must do.
Jackson Taylor is a quintessential free spirit and an adrenaline junkie. His Let life take you where it leads. Take risks. Be daring. A skydiving instructor by day and a drag racer by night, he doesn't hold back, doesn't try, and he doesn't follow rules.
One summer. One disaster. An unbelievable romance. And suddenly Maia Parker isn't who everyone remembers. Suddenly, she's unable to stay silent ...
R.K. Ryals is the author of emotional and gripping young adult and new adult paranormal romance, contemporary romance, and fantasy. With a strong passion for charity and literacy, she works as a full time writer encouraging people to "share the love of reading one book at a time." An avid animal lover and self-proclaimed coffee-holic, R.K. Ryals was born in Jackson, Mississippi and makes her home in the Southern U.S. with her husband, her three daughters, a rescue dog named Oscar the Grouch, A Shitzsu named Tinkerbell, an OCD cat, and a coffee pot she honestly couldn't live without. Should she ever become the owner of a fire-breathing dragon (tame of course), her life would be complete.
Here I am, again, wishing I had the talent with words that Ms. Ryals does so that I can leave a review that does this book justice. But I don't so I'm just going to wing it and my words aren't going to do this book justice. At all.
I think the blurb perfectly sums up what this book about. So, I don't feel like there's any need for a description. I loved Maia! I swear she was my teenage self! Ms. Ryals has this uncanny ability to tap into a reader's soul with each of her books. I always find that I can relate to her characters in some way, whether it is now or when I was younger. Sometimes I even learn something new about myself. This book was beautifully written. I felt like I floated through the book with these characters. I loved the characters. I loved the storyline. I loved the moral of the story. I loved ALL of it. This book is part of a series but it can be read as a standalone. You do not have to read The Story of Awkward to enjoy this one but that is really good, too.
I have nieces that I pass this author's books down to. I think they're perfect for a young adult and for those who enjoy them. Young Adult is one of my favorite genres and R.K. Ryals does a tremendous job of making these relatable to all.
An Introvert's Tale is the second book in R.K. Ryals' standalone series Embrace Yourself. I absolutely loved the first book, but I wasn't sure what to expect with the second since it was a completely new story. I'm happy to say that it stood up to all of my expectations! The book focuses on introverted Maia, who has been labeled as the quiet one her entire life and is trying so hard to live up to everyone's expectations. I saw a lot of myself in Maia because I had the same label growing up and remember all the frustrations that went along with it. This is a truly inspiring story about learning to be who you are and I'm so glad I read it! R.K. Ryals is an incredibly talented writer. Through her books, she's inspiring people to be themselves and live without labels. She wove small magical elements into the plot and made it feel believable and exciting. I'm looking forward to reading more of her books!
This is what I love about this author. She expresses herself in ways that allow you to express yourself. How she knows my soul is beyond me. Now she's explored my mind. Where I often wandered this world and wondered "Am I the only one with exploding thoughts in my head that run rampant all day but my lips don't ever voice them aloud." Thank you R.K. Ryals for giving us quiet ones a voice. 4.5
Wow! What a journey. This is a beautiful tale, a wonderful story, full of emotion and feeling. I loved reading it! You won't regret taking this journey it's a wonderful ride. Enjoy!
I read your first book and I fell in love with it. I hardly ever leave reviews But this second book is even better. Not anything better than the first, but it shows that you're learning as you travel forward. And, yes, I am also an introvert. I believe pretty much all of what you are saying. It's not about who you are, I think it's about who you let yourself become. I truly love everything about your books.. I think everyone should read at least one of them. Enjoy your world. I see you.
When you read something so profound and beautiful that you can’t put it down and you find yourself crying at the end....not because of sadness, but because of the beauty of the words and the story.
After falling in love with the previous book of this standalone series, I just had to get this one as well. It was another adorable story that I could definitely relate to. So far my experience with this writer is nothing short of perfect.
3.5 stars. Cute. This book was two separate tales - the first a very standard YA romance and the second a mysterious oddity. I'm honestly unsure if these components worked together.
The moment that you are staring at midnight on-the-clock for the second night in a row... all because you had to have a re-read of the fantastic book from the night before. And let me tell you 5:45 comes awfully early in my house but An Introvert’s Tale by RK Ryals is most definitely worth wrecking my sleeping pattern!
An Introvert’s Tale is the story of Maia Parker, a sweet, kind high school senior that has a serious problem telling people no. Constantly agreeing to everything and everyone to avoid a conflict, she finds herself interviewing for a summer job that she doesn’t want. After stumbling through the woods and taking refuge in a hidden garage, a chance meeting puts Maia on the path to self-discovery. A workaholic mother, a best friend’s break-up, the giddy feeling of crushing on a boy, the overwhelming feeling of just wanting to be yourself…this is a tale that could transcend time.
The second standalone is a wonderful addition to The Embrace Yourself series. This series is about embracing the traits that make you who you are, the traits that make you special. The traits that people see as insecurities can be the best, most unique quality that they have and RK Ryals has grabbed onto that and created the most entertaining stories to show that. By no means do you have to read the books “in order” but I would definitely recommend reading both this and The Story of Awkward. This is a great series for all readers including the young and the young at heart.
I finished it in a day! I loved it! Even more than Awkward cuz I connected with Maia as we have kind of similar personalities. I liked the first book but this was more amazing. The story is divided in three parts; the words that made into margins of her notebook, found by Jackson between the pages of her recovered notebook and the words that never made it into her notebook. I liked how all the chapters started with these captions even in the previous book. Maia's character growth and her coming of age journey was humorous, sad and with her discovering herself was amazing. The situations and plot felt realistic and I connected with the characters, which is very important for me to enjoy a book. And the writing is just amazing you just flow through the story. In the beginning I thought this wouldn't have the magical that was in the first book but the R.K Ryals totally surprised me which is awesome! Really cool and awesome and I just can't express it but this one is going to be close to my heart. Got a review copy in exchange of an honest review.

I observe things and enjoy helping others, but I also love being alone. I love those peaceful moments when it's simply me, a bed, and a wall. I think author is talking about me. (:P Okay that wasn't funny)
“Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your golden hair,” he deadpans. I fluff my blonde bob. “Sorry, I got a haircut.” Lol! This was awesome!
Once again I went through an emotional roller coaster of a journey that was delivered by R.K. Ryals. This story is the second book in the stand alone series, Embrace Yourself.
This book has a sweet nature about it. It's a classic high school story about the good girl falling for the bad boy. Maia Parker is kind, quiet and a people pleaser. She is constantly trying to keep up with the demands of her over-achieving mom, all while putting her own goals and happiness on the back burner.
A series of events wind her face to face with Jackson, the towns bad boy with a long reputation. Some how Maia finds herself fitting in with his group of friends and spending more and more time in the garage they all hang out in.
The back stories of both main characters is one that leaves you wanting comfort and console each of them. The mom in me came out the more I found out about each Maia and Jackson.
As always it was a delight to read this. It's a great read for older teens; especially ones who are still searching for their voice.
The storyline was about a shy introvert who has a great voice and is knowledgeable about vintage cars. I liked how the story developed and the characters. I felt Maia's inner struggle and strength. Jackson was hot but hurt her at first by kissing another girl after her. I liked how she confronted him and thank him for opening her eyes. That threw him off. Of course they were not even together romantically except in her head. I gave this 3.5 because it was a very sad ending in the end after they finally got together. The HE A on this book is a sad one and somewhat on a borrowed time. Also, the humming thing where the h started hearing just didn't work for me at first but once Jackson confess his borrowed time in life, it made sense. Usually a happy ending makes me smile after reading a well written book. Except this book's HE A made me teary instead. Kind of a cliffhanger but not about the storyline more of an implied one due to Jackson's health issue.

An introverts tale was a wonderful story that stole all my emotions from me. Regina touched on some pretty serious current self worth issues that still cause a lot of hurt in today's world. These issues include redicule/name calling, stereotypes and labels, a false egotistical self worth, and being "a people pleaser". I went into this story expecting greatness and greatness was delivered! R. K. Ryals has a way with words and a way to bring the readers emotions to the surface. An Introverts Tale features some classic cars, a love story worthy of the everyday girl, and learning it is okay to say no. I loved this story so much, Thank you Regina for telling this tale of truthful wonder!
I really enjoyed "The Story of Awkward", and am so pleased by this book as well. Maia is a girl who starts by having a hard time speaking up for herself, but she isn't annoying to read in her passivism. This feels like a story written by someone who has a lot of love for introverts--in all their wonderful variety. This is a fabulous YA romance/coming-of-age with just the perfect touch of magic.
R.K. Ryals has a talent for tapping into soul of her readers. I find that her stories reel me in, slap me in the face, turn me into a blubbering mess, and then make me whole again. Her stories leave me a better person for having experienced them. An Introvert’s Tale was no different. Due to the subject matter this story is a must read for all teenage girls.
Loved this book. This is one of those reads that hits you on a mental and physical level. You can feel everything the characters are going through and relate in a very real way. The story was well planned and thought it. It's a story about finding yourself within everyone else thoughts or plans for you. For finding your own voice and embracing you dreams. Highly recommend.
Amazing again!! I finished this one in the train on my way to work . I need more please :-). I loved it ♡. Regina I can't say it enough , you are fantastic ♡♡
Enjoyable YA coming of age story. While there is some romance and it is central to the plot the real focus of the story is on being true to yourself rather than other people’s expectations.
Another fantastic emotional rollercoaster ride, I laughed and cried. The main characters journey was one I could emphasize with, being quiet is not always a bad thing.
