130 real questions from real traders answered by Mark Minervini, David Ryan, Dan Zanger & Mark Ritchie II - four of America's top momentum investors. Mark Minervini returned 36,000% - a 220 percent average annual return with only one losing quarter. He won the U.S. Investing Championship with a 155% return. Mark is the Author of the best-selling book Trade Like A Stock Market Wizard; How to Achieve Superperformance in Stocks in Any Market. He is featured in Jack Schwager's Stock Market Wizards: Conversations with America's Top Stock Traders. In two years, the former pool contractor's personal trading account ballooned to $42 million! Mark Ritchie II is the son of the legendary Mark Ritchie (Market Wizards, God in the Pits). He achieved a +100% return in his own trading account in less than 6-months to win Mark Minervini's 2010 Triple-Digit Challenge. Since then Ritchie II is up 540% - his total return since 2010 is over 1,000%.
This is a difficult one to review. On the one hand, it's a short book that delivers on what it promises. You will likely get good ideas / insights from this one for momentum style investing / trading.
On the other hand, it is difficult to take the performance claims from the beginning of this book seriously. If you can really compound at 200% a year (Buffett clocks in at a long-term average of ~20% for reference), then why would you also have a multi-thousand dollar a year trading course? Perhaps books are written altruistically to spread knowledge, but paying so much for trading doesn't fit with someone who can make those type of returns, in my opinion. The investing contests that back up the performance claims also looks off, again, in my opinion only.
So with the above said, does that fully invalidate everything in the book? I don't think it does, but it definitely casts some doubt. Momentum investing works, that has been proven by many studies. But making 100%+ returns most years with (from memory) only 1 down quarter seems to me to be beyond the realm of what's possible.
Very good review by four excellent momentum stock traders and most issues facing someone trading for profits, as opposed to investing. The traders are Mike Minervini, David Gray, Dan Zanger and Mark Ritchie II. This is a good book for someone with some experience in trading to appreciate the responses. It's done in a style where a question is posed to them, then each trader answers in their own point of view, often the same and sometimes quite differently.
I'd definitely recommend to anyone honing their skills in trading. This one is a great book to work through a few steps at a time and forces you to consider your methods in detail.
This is a must read book for traders. It comprises the way how different people create and hone their own style in the Markets. Mark Minervini, David Ryan, Dan Zanger, Mark Ritchie ii are the traders who share their experience with the market. I emphasis again that it is a must read and has to be read multiple times.
Read several times between 2015-2017, and reread now in September 2020 during market chop. It holds up well. Actually, it's one of my all-time favorite trading books, and I feel it is underrated. Many pieces of timeless wisdom in here for swing and position traders.
This book is densely packed with full, honest and insightful answers to scores of questions from investors like you and me. The answers come from four of the best and most consistent investors of our age. If you're remotely interested in investing, you'd be mad not to read it.
This book is superbly useful for a developing trader. Thoroughly enjoyed the thought process and different perspective of legend traders. We can find many commonalities among them in managing risk... Must read
I've read a lot of books on trading. The value in this one to me was the common themes in the answers. I came away with renewed confidence that it's possible to improve, and another way to think about position sizing and risk management.
A must read. It's just many questions asked to 4 most respected traders in the world. I am sure most of the doubts regarding trading will be answered here.
There are hardly any books written Dan Zanger. Finally got to understand his trading style through this book. Of course, reading Mark Minervini's take on trading strategies is always a delight.
Loved the book. I understand that each trader trades differently and should find their own style of trading but some of the answers seemed rather generic. Overall still packed with useful information especially on trading psychology and risk management.
