I put my hands in this book from Alexandre Magno some time ago and, until today, I read only parts of the book when I was looking for specific ideas. The full reading of this book was a pleasant surprise, as I'm doing it in a moment when I'm thinking of my priorities for career development.
Although brief, the book is full of narratives and presents clear and well-articulated arguments justifying the importance of the student being a protagonist of its learning. Alexandre points out the perils and limitations of prescriptive/traditional learning to deal with complexity and introduces the idea of a learning system to overcome the limitations of the traditional approach.
As I had the opportunity to follow Alexandre's work as a trainer and consultant for some time, it was especially eye opening how he stands about training and consulting services. The book also gathers an excellent list of references that may be useful for the readers that, like me, want to delve into this subject.
Alexandre is beginning a journey that, in my opinion, makes a lot of sense. It seems this is the first of a sequence of books he plans to write and I would love to see this learning system in a more concrete way. I would also be glad to see some reflection about academia, the challenges and future possibilities in this world of increased speed and complexity.
I got a great pleasure to find a new focus on learning in the contemporary world and changing focus from 'expert in the room' to 'collaboration and mutual ideas and experience enrichment". Tool Learning Canvas and recommendations for facilitators are also valuable. Highly recommended for trainers and consultants.
When I started talking with Alexandre Magno about new ways of working and learning, the context was democratic schools and Ricardo Semler's ideas from his book. And then, looking at learning 3.0 ideas, everything is now connected. This book has the ideas related to democratic schools, where educators and students pretty much engage together in the process of Learning. I am pretty sure we need to tear down the walls that exist in the learning process and all the hierarchy applied in Learning 1.0 and 2.0, depicted in this book. This book will definitely help us to get there.
Vale a pena a leitura.
Even though it started out more like a marketing tool for the author, I could get the value it promised a little more further (kind of half-way through it). Then, the invented narrative started ringing some bells and the techniques presented started to make sense. At the end the book does delivers some tools to aid self-learning and a system that allows a group of people to efficiently learn on their own way.
It is a very helpful, useful and thoughtful book. I'm pretty sure that Alex delivered a very nice tool. More than a tool, a mindset. But I down one star due to his radical vision on consultancy while he is explaining the Learning 2.0 fundamentals. In my opinion a very limited vision, throwing my friend in the induction problem trap.
It is a good reading to understand the context we are and how we can be creative working together to people (it a king obvious - but somehow it is forgiven in someway). This book shows a couple tools and theories that helps us to see options about how we can works
