The one time he broke that rule, he killed the woman that was carrying his child.
Then comes Baylee Roberts. She makes Sebastian want to break every single rule he’d ever implemented. Hell, but she even makes him consider that dreaded H word. A helmet.
To My...
Baylee Roberts innocently walked into her bathroom never expecting that she’d find a man in there. It is her bathroom after all, and she lives alone.
From the instant he placed his hat on her head to protect her from the sun, Baylee’s mind becomes filled with thoughts of a certain biker.
She really shouldn't go there. There’s no telling what kind of dangerous things he does for The Dixie Wardens MC.
Siren...
Nothing is ever as easy as it should be. Their relationship’s one of them.
Baylee’s brother is a cop. Baylee’s father is a cop. Which inevitably means that Baylee’s going to have certain hang-ups about being with a man like him.
Sebastian has a lot on his plate with his busy job as a firefighter, a single father, and the vice president of The Dixie Wardens MC.
Not enough, though, to keep him away from Baylee. When a series of arsons rattle their hometown and puts Sebastian’s life on the line, Baylee finally realizes the only fire Sebastian can’t put out is the one inside her heart.
Lani Lynn Vale is married to the love of her life that she met in high school. She fell in love with him because he was wearing baseball pants. Ten years later they have three perfectly crazy children and a cat named Demon who likes to wake her up at ungodly times in the night. They live in the greatest state in the world, Texas. She writes contemporary and romantic suspense, and has a love for all things romance. You can find Lani in front of her computer writing away in her fictional characters world...that is until her husband and kids demand sustenance in the form of food and drink.
Sebastian lives by a few rules, as a VP for the Heroes of the Dixie Wardens and a single father, he keeps a distance from committing to a woman and never letting one on the back of his bike. He did that once and it killed her. When he agrees to help build a porch he meets Baylee Roberts, she is everything he would be looking for in a woman but he is not sure if he is good enough for the beauty who has a different perspective on life.
Baylee has been fantasizing about Sebastian since she borrowed, well permanently decided to keep, his hat. When they continue to run in the same circles, Sebastian decides he is going for it and Baylee is excited to see where it will lead. Sebastian has to decide if he is planning to let Baylee all the way in though and make her his old lady, can she handle to truth or is he willing to let it go.
I absolutely adored this book. Sebastian is no nonsense and he handles Baylee beautifully. Baylee is a handful, her brain goes on overload sometimes and I think she ignores things sometimes that causes her to get in trouble. I liked the whole MC dynamic and that it was just not a smooth romance, they had real problems that they had to work on. Definitely an MC series to pick up if you have not already.
AUDIO RE-READ 12/13_12/15 I don't change original ratings
- no cheating - no om drama -ow drama -no excessive violence -single dad- son's mother was killed in a motorcycle crash. He did not love her and they weren't a couple -steamy -secondary characters - MC members ego get their own stories. Thankfully, aside from Trance being in the car with above "club whore" we didn't see any of them being with them -epilogue - I appreciate that even thigh it's a series, we got a decent epilogue
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lani lynn vale stories are just what I've been looking for! no cheating, no ow/om drama. no long separations...hea! I will definitely move on to the next story and I hope that Kettle is just as hot as Sebastian
When I have tears streaming down my face from emotions so deep that I can hardly put them into words, I know then that I’ve found a story that has touched me deeply. When I decided to give Lani Lynn Vale a chance and started this series it was because I had read the reviews of book one and saw that this was what I called a “Nic” proof book. There wouldn’t be any cheating or sex outside the hero/heroine. But what I found was so much more. This book was layered with energy that vibrated throughout. I am finding it hard to explain what I encountered in this amazing love story. Yes I’ll confess it has my favorite thing, insta-love. No the characters Sebastian and Baylee didn’t confess this love right away …it was more like lust but they were drawn to each other like nothing I’ve ever read before. I just loved though how this author took the time to bring these two together in a slow burning build of passion. They became a real couple and this story had so much more than their relationship going on. Baylee was a very strong heroine and had a very high stress job as a paramedic and also was dealing with two health disorders. Adhd and a bleeding disorder. and I loved how Lani brought so many details of Baylee’s job and these health issues into the storyline. It didn’t detract from the romance, it was enhanced because it showed how they worked together as a couple and how they had to overcome the obstacles that we all face in real life. Real that’s the word I’ve been looking for. This book had real issues and it had things that made this love story feel authentic. I loved Sebastian so much. He was strong, loyal, protective and possessive. He didn’t mince words or try to hid his feelings. He wasn't just the VP of the MC club, no he was a firefighter who saved lives and worked hard. He just laid it out there. He wasn’t one for flowery words but showed his feelings..his actions spoke for themselves.
His past as a Marine really spoke to my heart being a mother to a US Marine myself. But when he took Baley on a trip to visit some special friends… my heart broke. I learned something I feel ashamed to say I never knew before. Visiting the cemetery of lost heroes.. there’s a tradition. Simple coins. But profound meaning. Nickels meant that the deceased and visitor to the grave attended boot camp together. A dime meant that they served with the person in some capacity. And a quarter, like the one Sebastian had just left, meant that they were with them when they’d died. This part of the story just had me in tears and feeling so thankful for men like my son but also for the families and the loved ones left behind.
So Sebastion didn’t always speak the romatic words..he was all about doing, showing and claiming. But his actions were LOVE and it was so consuming how he loved Baylee. When this book had me gripping my kindle and holding my breath till I was dizzy..and gasping..I knew then without a doubt I’ve found an author that I have to have more of. I was totally enraptured and oh Sebastian has really taken my heart. With any MC series there is going to be the brotherhood, the foundation of the club.
This had so many interesting and intense characters that Lani took the time to make me the reader want more..right now. I want Kettle’s story and I want Sterling’s and Trance. I haven’t looked at the next book but will be diving right in hoping it’s also safe for me. I was totally consumed by this amazing story and this author now has one girl who will be watching the name Lani Lynn Vale very carefully. Lani, I want perfect Alpha’s like Sebastian. Loyal, true and possessive. Write girl write. OH …one last thing. From a girl born and raised in Louisiana, I really really loved the setting of this book being partly in my state. Any body who loves a good loyal hero, sexy romance with suspense, passion and intrigue..along with an authentic reality type plot. Give this one a go..you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
For Lights to My Siren, I'd probably rate it more like a 1.5 and that .5 was only because of two reasons. I found it interesting that the heroine, Baylee, was both ADHD as well as having a disease I never heard of called Weelbrand's disease. Apparently, if cut, the bleeding could be excessive. The other reason has to do with how the hero, Sebastian, after she tells him specifically about the ADHD was actually truly empathetic and didn't make her feel "bad" about something she had no control over.
Other than those two things, there's a lot of things about this book that did not work at all. First, in the beginning of the story, Baylee would make reference to secondary characters being part of FREE. I kept of reading the chapters up to the reference but couldn't find what FREE was. After a bit of sleuthing, I saw that the author had written a series of books about an MC called Freebirds aka FREE. So this was a bit confusing to me.
The other thing is that the relationship between the two characters didn't have any depth. Yes, there was sexual attraction, but it's not like they really got to know each other. Yet, based on a few hours spent here and there without any real conversation, one night of sex (albeit hot sex), Sebastian takes her to a place that's deeply personal to him.
Also, with Sebastian being a single father, you'd think a meeting between Baylee and his son, Johnny, would be some of significance; yet, it's glossed over in the book. In fact, the first time Johnny and Baylee are mentioned together is apparently after they already met and were on their way with Sebastian to have dinner with his friend.
There were also scenes in the book that didn't feel necessary to move the story along. I mean, what does a man zip tying his penis have to do with anything? How does Baylee getting attacked and threatened with rape add to the story? It only served as a vehicle for Sebastian and Baylee's brother, Lucas, to injure the man who hurt Baylee as a form of male bonding. Considering that Lucas is a cop, that didn't seem quite appropriate.
Then later on the story, it comes out that Sebastian runs some kind of underground fight club and that he used to fight himself. There were no hints of anywhere in this book prior to this. It came out of nowhere.
It mainly served as a catalyst for Baylee to realize that Sebastian's MC isn't as vanilla as she thought (especially since Sebastian wasn't forthcoming) and of course, emphasized that she really didn't know Sebastian that well to have any type of meaningful heart to hearts. The other thing that comes out is Sebastian's MC name, which is Shiva. Given the importance of road names for an MC, shouldn't this have come out sooner?
If the underground fight club is something that Sebastian was hiding all along, why couldn't that have been more incorporated in the story. That might have added something more to this relationship then the whole arson story arc, something for them to battle over? The end result of the arson story seemed to be more about Baylee rushing to Sebastian when he was hurt. However, Baylee was going to see Sebastian anyway, so then what was the point of the arson story?
For the most part, everything between Baylee and Sebastian was hunky dory up until she found out about the underground fight club. Even then, it didn't take long before she went to him. Considering their different backgrounds, there should have been more push and pull and there wasn't. They just fell into each other.
Overall, this book just didn't do it for me. The story nor the characters weren't fully realized.

I'm sure it's obvious by now, but I can't get enough of this author's books! I've already met and fell in love with the second generation of LLV's characters and I'm loving getting to know and love the first gen.
I first met Sebastian in a previous book, when he was in a horrific traffic accident that killed the woman who was carrying his son. I was kind of desperate to learn more about him and I'm thrilled that I got this opportunity. He was the VP of The Dixie Wardens, a heroic firefighter, and one heck of a dad. He had a huge heart, cared about his people, and was in love with Baylee.
Baylee was Luke Roberts's sister. She was a paramedic who had a bunch of health issues, which wasn't surprising because it seems that this author loves to give her characters problems to overcome. She also had a huge heart to match Sebastian's and she loved him just as much as he loved her.
I have to say that watching Johnny, who I got to meet in Get You Some, and how much of a crazy little monkey he was absolutely made this read for me! I'm really appreciating seeing some of my favorite characters as babies!!
There were some trials, there were some tribulations, but above all, there was happiness and joy. Getting glimpses of other club members (I'm looking at Kettle and Trance) made me excited to read more of this series and I'm on tenterhooks while I wait to get to Silas's book. That man seems like he's going to be a riot to read!
In general I liked this mc romance. Considering the generally high level of the writing I was pretty surprised at the constant errors in tense. Fairly often sentences were written using third person in this first person narrative. If first person in hard for you just use third person. It's easy and we ll know it well enough that it is hard to mess up and frankly this reader prefers it. I'd never read another line of first person again if I could manage it. Another writing oddity that bugged me was the odd time jumps. I don't mind time jumps per see but here the jumps seemed oddly placed. Like the author continually skipped over scenes that should have been written. Instead she would jump ahead in time and just tell you that a scene had happened and many times that was a scene that I had been expecting and even looking forward to.
All that being said, the book was enjoyable. I liked that the mc club is mostly legit and I am not having to overlook the fact that my hero is a murderer. The story also stayed pretty tightly focused on the romantic relationship. I did think that just one physical condition would have been enough for the heroine especially since the adhd wasn't fully addressed in my opinion. Also even though this is the first of a series, I felt like I was missing something in some of the things that were said or happened, like there were previous books maybe.
I avoided this book when I first started this series. The plot was not appealing to me. Bu the audio version came up on Hoopla, so I said what the hell....
I ended up liking it! Baylee was awesome. I really liked her. Sebastian was mostly likable, but he could be a real childish dick at times.
Considering the plot, the dead baby mama was NOT an issue for me. The bigger issue was his total lack of situational awareness (i.e. letting women hang on him) and Baylee's lack of willingness to confront him over it. But this was not a big or frequent issue, so not that big of a deal.
The book moved a little slow at times and I thought there were unneeded time jumps. Especially since it did not seem like there was any emotional character growth in the interim. I also with her relationship with Johnny was introduced better and then we spent some time seeing it. He was a cute kid.
DNF at 52%. I tried to finish. I was under the impression this was a biker/MC read. The H is fireman who wears a cut basically. I didn't connect with either character and author spent way to much time describing characters from other series. I would have rather read about the h/H. Also, she spent too much time describing the calls the h would take as an EMT. They didn't help story at all. I am taking rest of books from this series off my TBR.
This story had great bones - all the ingredients to be a great book but lacked execution. Whenever a conflict came up there didn't seem to be a satisfactory resolution - instead time jumps to weeks later and everything is peachy. I would have really loved this book if all of the fights had actual resolutions we were aware of, and if the hero actually apologized/realized he was being a douche. It made the heroine seem weak which I don't think she is.
Jan. 2019 reread: ummm. This isn’t my favorite. I feel like this was pretty early in LLV’s writing career and you can tell. It’s rough. I enjoyed the story but the writing and execution of it was where it really lost me. I think this could be sent back to an editor. Also just adding or adjusting the story here and there would make this 100 times better.
I saw this book recommended in a facebook group and it sounded like just what I was looking for but unfortunately it just didn't work out for me. It was an okay story but I never felt like I connected to either character and the story jumped around too much for me. It was like we never got a full lenghth scene with the main characters and instead we were constantly going from one event to the next. Bottom line it was all a little too choppy for me and it left me wanting more of an actual romance.
On top of that there were a lot of characters from another series thrown in to the point of confusion at times. Even for a spin of series I just don't expect that big of a connection to side characters from a book that's first in a series. It made me feel like I was missing something the way some characters were put into the story and treated like I should already know who they are. I've seen this authors books around a lot so I may give her a try at another time if a blurb catches my eye.
For the first time, I'm not sure if I like this book or not!
for some reason the romance in this book just didn't do it for me .. - I didn't really like or connected with the h - the hero was OK but all over the place(he was in an MC, a single parent ..a firefighter with some problems) .. -I didn't like that the H kept calling the h names behind her back and especially in front of his kid .. How is that supposed to be romantic? -I didn't really fall in love with any of the characters.
So I guess I didn't really like this book ..it had potential at the beginning but it just fell flat.
Engaging, cute & fun characters. Not a bad plot, either. It's nothing too different from all the other MC books out there, but it's well written and worth reading if you like MC books.
I just absolutely adored this book and it's charaters. Sebastian and Baylee are just the best for each other and there of course some very sexy scenes in this book. I can't wait to read the next book!
I'm late to the party I know, but the last 2 days I have just been scoffing down the Lani Lynn Vale Dixie Wardens MC books and the SWAT series books. Just LOVED them!!! So surprised - and in a GOOD way. I had the original Freebirds books, but never got beyond the first 3 coz I didn't really like them. Well, I did like the heroes, but the writing and editing was really pretty "clunky" (for lack of a better word) and the heroines all irritated the pants off me. I think they were supposed to come off as fun, cute and quirky but to me, for mid 20-somethings, they were just plain immature idiots. And after 3 practically identical ones, I didn't have any great hope for the rest of the series.
Anyhoo... the next series, the Dixie Wardens, kept getting such favourable comments and reviews, I kept getting them, thinking I'd read 'em eventually. Then the day before yesterday, on a "lucky dip" approach to selecting a book to read (doing a search for all book 1 books on my tablet and then closing my eyes and tapping the screen) I ended up with Lights to My Siren. And bugger me if I didn't thoroughly enjoy it. So then I ripped through the rest.... then picked up Centre Mass (the SWAT series) and had the same reaction and polished off those three.
So then I thought maybe I didn't like the Freebirds ones coz I'd been in a major book funk when I read them, so tried one of 'em again (book 2 - making an allowance in case of a flukey bad first book)... but nope, still didn't like it. But I persevered, being on a high of good feeling since I'd loved the DW & S series so much I tried book 5.... and liked it! It was different from those first three. So then I read 4 and 6. Those last 3 - what a huge change from the first 3 (well it seemed like to me anyway). The heroines were much much less irritating and her writing just improved by leaps and bounds.
Anyway, I loved how all three series are so interlinked, and loved how she's gotten better as more books came out. I can't wait for the rest of the guys of the SWAT team to get their books now.

I absolutely adored this book. Sebastian is no nonsense and he handles Baylee beautifully. Baylee is a handful, her brain goes on overload sometimes and I think she ignores things sometimes that causes her to get in trouble. Lights To My Siren is the first book in Vale's spin off from her Freebird series-Heroes of the Dixie Warden MC. Based on the Dixie Warden's MC whom we see on and off in the main series, this is Sebastian's story. VP of the MC and the brother to Shiloh & Sam, he meets and falls for Baylee Roberts(Luke's sister). As always, Vale pens a fast paced story that is heavier normal on the romance rather then the conflict. Seb is your average alpha male but Baylee is definitively no push over biker chick. She is strong, intelligent, and is more then able to handle Seb's more "alpha-douche" moments. Often with hilarious results. As will all Vale's books, the MC aspect is low key. We do get to meet all the Dixie Warden's and learn more about this particular world. Vale intertwines these two series effortlessly and produces another engaging, sexy, and fun book that hooked me from page one.
Book 1 in The Heroes of The Dixie Wardens MC. This book was a bit up and down for me. At one part I wanted to give it a 4.5 star rating, and at another spot I wanted to give it a 2 star rating. This just might be me. It is a really good story, and the characters are strong and blend really well. There was a lot to learn about in the book with it being the first one, so I am definitely going to try the second book.
Wow what a wonderful surprise!!! I loved this book sexy, super hot, funny and had a plot! Yummy Alpha, insta love type read.... Just what I was looking for, soooo I'm jumping into the next immediately A few grammatical errors but not enough to throw me off..
Too many side characters and characters from authors other books. Too much fire fighter and EMT page time. Too many fmc medical problems- ADHD and free bleeder- I’m not looking to delve into a case study and:or teaching about various illnesses when I read a book( and I’m a former RN) and Too little romance and relationship development between the MCs. Baylee moves to Texas after a break up. Her EMT partner is an old lady and part of the local MCC. The MCC comes to help Build her pool deck— oh yeah Baylee also can’t swim. Sebastian and Baylee hit it off and start a lust fest. Then I skimmed a bunch of fires and heart attacks and free bleeding and fires and was bored. Then Sebastian is hit in the chest with an axe and almost dies. When he gets better pregnant Baylee almost dies . Then they both get better and live hea.

This read started off awesome! I loved everything developing. I loved the strong, funny h. The mysterious, OTT alpha H. I loved Winter and all the characters from Free getting a little time to shine and say "hello" to us.
What started feeling off for me was, at first, the sudden time changes. One paragraph we are in the current and then the next paragraph we are suddenly "days" later in the characters lives. There was no good transition of time, and at points it became VERY confusing. Also, the way the characters "told" their story. It would go back and forth between being told in 1st person then 3rd person.
I also felt a disconnect to the H starting a little after 50% in the book. All of a sudden he was just different. He had all the secrets and women sitting in his lap. <--that one "ircked" me most. He went from an open book and OTT possessive to letting the h deal with stuff on her own and being okay with her suffering from things he caused her to think. Then most of these confusing things were really never addressed to the reader. The two mains just sat down "had a two hour difficult conversation" and then it was solved (toward the end of the book). Again, as the reader you're like "whaaa???". So this led to a disconnect to the H for me. I was angry with him and didn't know WTH he was doing with the h. Then the h lost a lot of her backbone in order to make it work with the H. I'd have liked to have seen her hold out a little longer and make it harder on the H since we as the reader don't get much in detail with what the H was dealing with. Also, the H's club life. Most of the book it's brought up, but not important. His fire fighting career is. Then toward the end, it's brought up like it's always been in the spotlight. All of a sudden he's a fighter for the club. What? When? Where? Why? Nope, just one vague seen with the above mentioned woman on his lap (which was RIDICULOUSLY sort of explained as if the H didn't realize anyone was in his lap).
So, all in all, just okay. IMO this book could have been AWESOME. It just wasn't consistent with the characters and the explanation of things such as characters actions, personalities, backgrounds and the amount of time passing.
I would of course recommend. It's hot, sexy and very Alpha. This may be perfect for you. There was just too many disconnecting things for me to really enjoy it like I would have loved.
This was more like a 3.5 star rating for me. I didn’t always agree with some of the things that Sebastian said to Baylee or how he always treated her. His heart was in the right place, but sometimes he was a bit too condescending. Baylee was dealing with some difficult health issues, and I thought that Sebastian could have been a little more understanding and sensitive towards her. But, it is a motorcycle club series, and they tend to be more brusque with their women. Baylee can hold her own, though. She’s smart and funny. The story is written in dual POVs, and each chapter starts off with a cute little quote that was comical. I did find myself shedding some tears when something that’s supposed to be a beautiful moment almost ends up to be tragic. Wow! That was close!! And, the HOT and HEAVY chemistry between the couple was pretty passionate and exciting.
Within the story we’re introduced to the other guys in the club, and they all seem to be just as close as family could be. Loyalty and honesty was key. The club is made up of cops, firemen, and ex-military personnel, which is a totally different take on MC books written now. This wasn’t shadowed in the gritty MC sort of way. It was different – more romantic and family oriented I would say. I pretty much enjoyed the story. I just had a some issues with Sebastian. But, Baylee was a fantastic character! She really rose to the occasion! And, Sebastian’s son, Johnny, what a hoot!!!
Looking forward to reading the next installment to this series...
Sebastian is a different breed of alpha. In fact, I think he is one of the most alpha-alphas I have read. I honestly wasn't sure about him at first, with regard to whether or not I liked him due to his past actions (no spoilers here) but the rest of the story sealed it for me; I'm a Sebastian fan!
Baylee was great because, in spite of her physical conditions, she loved living life and did so on her own terms. Her conditions definitely added a unique element to the story and I eagerly read on to see how the story would progress.
The last few pages before the epilogue literally had me in tears. While I loved the whole story, it was really tied together within those pages.
Lani always incorporates family into her books, namely children, which is refreshing as it adds a "real" element to the story.
The ONLY only only reason I am giving this 4 stars is because of the proofreading issues throughout the book.
This is my 2nd Lani book, and I would absolutely, without hesitation, read ANY of her books! I am a HUGE Lani fan!
***I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***
I read Centre Mass (SWAT series) first, it was like seeing old friends again which was extremely nice.
The only issue I had with this was the writing. It was just a bit too sloppy in places, the narrative skipped from first to third person quite a few times and the characters names were often wrong, as in they ended up looking like they were answering themselves. Just seemed as though I was reading an unedited version.
The plot was great though, Baylee was a great independent character and although Sebastian was protective she understood without being a pushover or overly dramatic. Also massively loved Johnny, he was a fun little kid and it was nice to see how easily he attached to Baylee and his reactions with Seb. Wish Baylee had used a nickname for him more though. Wasn't keen how it didn't show a proper time line, events just happened and we didn't know how much time passed between them.
