The API Lifecycle presents an agile process for managing the life of an API - the secret sauce to help establish quality standards for all API and microservices providers. This knowledge informs one on how to excel their API, picturing a holistic model of the API as a business and product. From conception to deprecation, this handbook outlines unique step-by-step instructions on market research, strategy, construction, promotion, and updating your API. The API lifecycle diagram is an agile process for managing the life of an API and is composed of four distinct Analysis, Development, Operations, and Retirement. Our eBook expands theses concepts, grounding theories in knowledge collected during the Nordic APIs 2015 API lifecycle themed conference tour, events which brought API industry experts together to discuss different strategies throughout varying stages of the API lifecycle. We also delved deeper into these ideas within our blog, interviewing leading web API figures, and performing additional research to create a comprehensive view of the lifecycle for a commercialized web API. *All Nordic APIs titles are available for FREE on Leanpub or direct download on Nordicapis.com/ebooks. All proceeds from the sale of our eBooks are donated to the Salvation Army in Sweden.
It's greatest advantages are: * the fact that there are not many books about API lifecycle available around * being free * a lot of nice tools mentioned (with links)
Sadly, content-wise book didn't rock my world: some generic ideas without 'field-of-battle' practical practices. 'nuf said.
Confirming what others have said about the book. The score of 3 stars is deserved mostly by the number of links to useful tools, and short API stories from all kinds of companies. This book feels like a collection of blog posts, somehow edited to make the fit together. It's good that it's not repetitive, at least, but the content is sparse. I think that the book could have easily fit on 20 pages. 10 pages are brief API stories at different companies, 5 pages for mentioning different tools and articles, and 5 pages are the actual content of the book. Also the book was free, which is good, but I tried not to let the book score be influenced by the price.
The fact that it's short is also an advantage. It didn't provide much info, but at least it was brief about it :p
Oh, full of grammar problems. If you're a grammar nazi, you might not appreciate this.
