Penny had been at first subtle, and then less than subtle, in expressing her concern. She had finally told Celia, “It’s been a year and you’re still pining over that jerk. You need to get laid, and Adam is the man for the job. He knows exactly what he’s doing and he likes it hot and dirty.”
Celia had blushed at Penny’s bluntness, and hid her embarrassment in annoyance. “If he’s so great, why aren’t you keeping him for yourself?” she had demanded.
Penny had rolled her eyes. “He likes science fiction and computers.” She said it the way someone else might say, “He likes dog vomit.” Celia had laughed, and finally agreed to a date with Adam.
And, much as she had dreaded it, the evening had been amazing. She and Adam had made an instant connection. The sizzle was there, from the start. But they also had a lot in common. The conversation flowed easily. In addition to science fiction and computers, they both loved all types of Asian cuisine, slyly worked Whovian quotes into conversation to see if people would notice, and couldn’t understand why someone would prefer to run rather than ride a bike. They also agreed that any movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger was worth watching at least once, even the really bad ones.
Now she felt as though all her neighbors were watching as she invited this man she hardly knew, this almost perfect stranger, into her home.
Oh, man was he perfect, too. Thick black hair. A slight evening stubble shading his strong jawline. Eminently kissable lips, and liquid dark eyes that had been sending messages to her all night. "I want to fuck you," those eyes said. She knew her eyes must be sending back the same message.
Adam held out his hand for the keys. With a soft, surrendering sigh, Celia handed them over. She watched as he inserted them in the lock with none of the shakiness she could feel in her own hands. A thrill of anticipation shot straight down to her pelvic bone as Celia stepped in, turned around, and waited for Adam to come in.
He entered the house, looking around as if memorizing the layout. He smiled, and held out his arms. Celia stepped forward, and his arms, strong and warm, wrapped around her.
"Don't be nervous. I'll stop if you say the word. This is about pleasure, for you and for me. We won't do anything you don't want to. Although you might find that you like a whole lot more than you realized."
