David Brainerd was a protege of Jonathan Edwards. He was a Puritan missionary to the Indians in New England until his early death at the age of 29. Jonathan Edwards said that Brainerd's example of personal piety was "most worthy of imitation." Here are 40 devotions taken from the journals of David Brainerd, along with prayers corresponding to each one. Any person at any level of spiritual development can profit from these warm meditations which manifest Brainerd's piety and desire for the glory of God.
David Brainerd was Christian missionary to the Native Americans, particularly among the Delaware Indians of New Jersey. His posthumously-published biography has become a source of inspiration and encouragement to many Christians, especially missionaries.
This small volume is a small window in to the devotion and life of this young 18th century American Christian of the Puritan persuasion.
This is organized into 40 short devotionals and from the short life and writings of Brainerd. In that short life and from his writings it is easy to see why he had such an impact. Such devotion is rarely experienced.

For the excerpts from Brainerd's diary, I'd give it 5 stars. For the "devotional" prayers at the end of each excerpt, I'd give it 1 or 2 stars.
Brainerd's diary is always excellent. His own time was God was exceptional, and he wrote about it extremely well. I'd highly recommend this little book, but skip the prayers.
