Third Base was my first Heidi McLaughlin read and a good introduction to her writing I think. The story was a compelling story that kept my interest from the beginning without losing it at any part of the book. I liked how the author was able to tell the story in Ethan's POV completely and really get me to understand his character's personality. His character was a good one that I liked throughout the book, even when he was being a bit of an asshole.

I do think I would have liked Daisy better if we got more of her in the beginning of the story. Since I started out not really feeling any emotion for her, good or bad, it made it so I could never connect with her character. I didn't have any negative feelings towards her, I just had none, and I was looking for that so that I could feel the chemistry between her and Ethan.

Bottom line, their story was a good one and this has left me eager to read more from this author. Her writing was engaging and kept me interested, and the story she wove through the pages made me smile.

I liked the format w/ the blogging and it was refreshing to read an entire book done in the guy's pov.

BUT I did NOT like Ethan. At. All. That was 60% into the book. Towards the end, I hated him. He was a dic_. Not the lovable kind where he struggles to do the right thing by Daisy, but the jerk kind where he claims to have feelings for Daisy that surpasses anything he's ever felt (his words), yet his actions in MULTIPLE situations clearly show he is selfish and thinks nothing of Daisy's feelings. Although you don't read Daisy's pov, considering her dialogue and past/current home situation, it's pretty clear that she is a mature gal that deserves way better than an immature manchild like Ethan.

The book is as shallow as him and just like his "antics" not very amusing.

SPOILER ALERT***********************
The worst part for me was Ethan's feelings for his ex who he's had a fwb relationship for YEARS. There are many moments where he thinks of his ex with much lust, love, and friendship, even admits theyve a "sixth" sense for each other. His feelings are much deeper for his ex than Daisy. For a while, I thought this was a love triangle book where it'd end in a cliffy. Such was the strength of his feelings for the ex. And when he took his ex to Daisy's grandpa's funeral??? I really hated him. Who does that???

Heidi should've named this one HOME RUN because that's what it was - a total out-of-the-park story!

A little mystery and a lot of heat mix together in this sweet tale that I devoured in as few sittings as possible. You can't help but fall in love with Ethan and (girl) crush on Daisy right along with the baseball star. It's sexy and sweet and you won't see the curveballs coming!

3.5 Stars! (rounded up)

This was a nice, light, easy read told in first-person narration with some scattered blogger posts between chapters to give the storyline a little more meat. It could have had a little more chemistry and heat between the main characters but overall an enjoyable read.

Thank you to Forever Books and Goodreads Giveaway for providing me with a copy of this novel.

DNF At 45%.

This is officially the last book I will read by Heidi McLaughlin. I could go on and on and really bash this book, but I'm not going to. I will let my rating speak for itself. BUT for those of you who would like an honest opinion of what was wrong with book, besides everything, I did not like Ethan. His POV just did not ring true with me. I guess I could have liked Daisy, but since this is in Ethan's POV I didn't know her. Some authors, really good ones, can make you know the person even if the telling is in another characters POV. Well, this one didn't. Ethan was constantly in his head. This was boring and lack luster and I can't believe that this is the same author that wrote "The Beaumont Series". I really can't. Again I hate to bash a book or author, so go read and decide for yourself!! Happy Reading.

Really tried to like this one but didn't. Found the H very immature, thinks always with his little head. His constant thoughts about is ex g/f turned hookup was annoying especially after being with the h! He even note how he would do anything for this OW hookup but failed to understand why the h did what she did to support her disabled grandfather and her.

This wonderful H thought of how easy and comfortable it was to be with OW vs having to work at a relationship with the h!! Lastly this idiot went home as usual to hook up with ex g/f hookup and we were privy to his juvenile thoughts on how she turned him on no thoughts of h - this after a fight, no breakup jut not talking or attempts to understand.

I finished book because I hate not finishing but could not connect to either H or h to be honest, book felt flat, was in H's immature POV only so didn't "feel" the h or connect which didn't help.

Didn't believe the HEA on this one - they have another fight he'll run back to his understanding comfortable hookup friend.

I love sports. And I especially love baseball. So you can imagine my love for sports romance and to know that I will be diving into a baseball sports romance makes me giddy. Third Base is the first book that I have read from Heidi McLaughlin and it definitely won’t be my last.

Third Base has all the makings to be a grand slam but sadly this book fell short in the aspect of showing a strong tangible chemistry between the hero and heroine. I will say that this book was able to score a home run and a few runs in my book in that it was a quick sweet and lovable story. I just wished Ms. McLaughlin walked us through each bases of the story before trying to hit the readers with that big grand gesture of love.

While this book had the baseball analogy and references down, it lacked the emotional and strong chemistry to pull me into the read. Overall, this book was a quick summer read and might be a hit for those sports romance fans but for me it was an okay read.

I hate to say it but I was not a fan. I've enjoyed almost everything McLaughlin has written so far but Third Base wasn't one of them.

Ethan Davenport is third baseman for the Boston Renegades. He's intrigued by the girl that sits in prime season ticket holder seats all by herself. He finally gets up the nerve to meet her. Daisy is a journalism student and obviously a huge Renegades fan. But she's also super secretive. Ethan isn't used to a woman not letting him in.

I don't know if McLaughlin intended for Daisy's secret to be shocking but it wasn't. I knew from page one and I knew the eventual reveal was going to be disastrous. That's the main reason I kept reading.

I didn't like Ethan. He was a toddler. I agree that Daisy should have told him sooner but his reactions to things even before he found out the secret were OTT. He was upset with Daisy longer than they were actually together. That combined with never getting Daisy's pov I just didn't feel their love. I didn't like his relationship with Sarah. FYI .

And then from the reveal to the ending it was all anti-climactic. Such a disappointment.

Ethan is the rising star third baseman of the Boston Renegades making a name for himself. He has his eye on the mysterious Daisy, a faithful fan at every home game he is dying to get to know. He finally has the courage to ask her out and a relationship develops. Can dealing with the life and schedule of being a famous ball player with everyone watching his every move and Daisy holding a secret be too much for this couple? Or do they have what it takes to make it?
I love baseball and I love a good love story and this one was a home run for me! And if baseball isn't your thing, you're going to change your mind by the end of it. The author makes you feel like you are actually experiencing the game and life both on and off the field. From the description of the plays and what's in the mind of the players and the fans, to life on the road with constant away games, the banter between the players, the locker room, the gossip and media hype, it's truly incredible how you feel a part of it all. Even the secondary characters consisting of the other players and family members are a true gem and provide lots of heart and laughs. I cannot wait to have more in this series and see who is up to bat next! A definite must read for everyone!

*Comment at end of review*

Something was missing - the angst? For a story that could've pulled out major angst, this one was somewhat tepid. I disagree with many reviewers about the H being a manwhore. It was not a focus, he mentioned liking women and they were available. He wasn't a virgin by any means and he didn't come across as a total dog. Yes, his ex was a hookup - but it was mutual. She was studying to be a Dr - and they were comfortable. He broke up with her - telling her he wanted to date other people. He didn't cheat on her. I don't feel he cheated on the h either. Technically, the whole relationship between the H/h was not full-fledged IMHO. They argued, he was resistant to being in a relationship - he was surrounded by sport buddies who encouraged him to be single at his age. Yes, I forgot to mention how young this guy is and so I forgive a little (only a little) for his youth and immaturity. On the other hand, I thought he had his head together for such a young guy. He loved his family, he talked to his Mom and sis regularly and loved his young niece - a family guy.

His ex also slapped him up side his head to get him to see that he had fallen for the h. Were they hooking up - yes. But I didn't get the squicks from it. It seemed realistic especially how the author wrote the characters.

Yes, the h betrayed him through omission. She should have told him sooner. But, I kind of understood her reticence and then how hard it was to disclose her job when she had fallen for him.

Both made mistakes and yet they overcame it all and HEA.

So, why only 2.5 stars. Again, this book was tepid (for me). I didn't feel as engaged as I wanted to be. I would have liked the angst, drama, a bad boy, and a skanky OW - but that's me. I was raised in HP Land - blame it on them.:0

*A GR friend wanted to be her nice self and gifted me with a copy of this book. For that alone, receiving this book is 5+ stars. Don't you love Random Acts of Kindness??? Makes your day to be on the giving end and on the receiving end!! So thank you my friend.

Ethan Davenport is one of Boston's most sought out bachelors as the third baseman for the Boston Renegades. Daisy is a quiet, shy college girl who happens to be at every home game. Ethan finally gets up the nerve to ask Daisy out and they hit it off. Ethan has a very busy schedule and Daisy needs to finish school. Can their relationship survive even when secrets are revealed??

I am a huge baseball fan and love romance novels. This book was definitely a win-win for me. The writing is so detailed that you feel like you are right there getting a front row seat to Ethan and Daisy's journey. This is definitely a must read.

Third Base by Heidi McLaughlin https://ladiikeiii.wordpress.com/2017... by Heidi McLaughlin

Few spoilers here and there, I owned Third Base and got this book through http://freshfictionbox.com. Worth having to because the storyline is good, and not only that, but I am a baseball fan "I am a Yankees" fan, and it's funny how Ethan hated the Yankees because they kept losing against them hilarious. Also, I just love reading sports books. These types of books interest me, make me want a baseball player, but these famous sports players are on this thotism lol.

I enjoyed Third Base it was really good. And the thing is, in the beginning, once I first started reading this book, I am like Daisy that baseball blogger lol. Who kept being at Ethan and the rest of the players. I am like how Ethan does not know this, and when they went to that run-down house by his mentor and came home, he finally found out because she left her phone in the car. I'm like a dang girl, that what you get for rushing into the house, lol but one sad part about the book was when her grandfather died, she had no one. After him, but in the end she had Ethan, he LOVED her to forgive her for what she did. And lastly, I wanted to know to know more about his mentor Bainbridge and his wife; I am like ooooh I bet she is bagging the Jacob batter or whatever he is the guy and got the nerve to say her husband cheating who knows maybe she started it! Or maybe he started it. I am like let Him have her STEVIE lol I mean Steve. Lol, I am going to look at the other two books to see if one of those stories about Steve Bainbridge, but this story was good.

SQUEEZZZE! First base, second base, third base, or home run … I will take it ALL!
HOT DAMN!!! This story is amazingly hot, sweet, sexy, and oh so romantic. I was introduced to Heidi McLaughlin by one of my favorite authors Monica James. I met Heidi at the RT convention and got Third Base signed by her. You are right Monica! This author is amazing. I love her writing and this love story is so freaking sweet and heart-felt. I laughed, I cried, and I finished this baby in one sitting!!!!

Told from the male POV (Ethan) one of my favs – Check!
Adorable main characters and secondary characters – Check!
A lot of hot sex – Check!
Swoony Sporting Romance – Check!
All the feels (funny, sad, heart-warming and a fair amount of angst) – Check!
Mysterious plot that kept me intrigued and on my toes – Check! (although I had my suspicions about halfway though).
Gorgeous love story – Check!

Ethan is an obviously successful, sexy, popular guy, but he also has a soft and sweet side. At times I thought he had a bit of a temper but also has a good heart. Daisy - she is so sweet, innocent, and a little quirky. She has a difficult past but she did not let that change her or define who she is. Daisy is strong and determined to take care of herself and her papa. I like how Ethan and Daisy’s relationship slowly developed. Let’s just say there was a lot of eye-fucking from afar for nearly a year before Ethan worked up the nerve to ask Daisy out. They became friends and their romance blossomed. I love that they are both close with their family – I adore stories like this – it makes me all happy and gooey inside. I even like Ethan’s ex-girlfriend. I thought there might be big drama with that relationship but I am glad there was none for a change. The bathroom scene though … I was a little mad at Ethan for running to her right away after their break up. I understand they are on a break but I think personally I would be upset if I found out someone who claimed to have feelings for me was so quick to find another warm bed (or warm shower wink wink wink). But hey, this isn’t about me LOL Their relationship was quite turbulent with lots of ups and downs and make-up sex – best part obviously . However, I think Ethan and Daisy compliment and keep each other grounded. Knowing Daisy helped Ethan realize how to appreciate life and what he has more. Ethan showed Daisy that they can have trust and faith in each other. They both make mistakes but no relationship is perfect and that makes this story real.

Overall, this was a quick, sweet, sexy, and romantic love story. I enjoyed the author’s writing style – it flowed effortlessly from beginning to end. I adored that fact that the author knows so much about baseball and after reading the dedication I understood why (SUPER SWEET). The baseball updates and the gossip columns at the beginning of each chapter were absolutely entertaining. I am so looking forward to The Boys of the Summer # 2 …. Can’t wait!!!!

4.5 Stars - Home run for Heidi! Review to follow.

Spoiler-free review
Title: Third Base
Author: Heidi McLaughlin
Release Date: November 4, 2015
Rating: 4. 5 stars
Cliffhanger: No

Home run for the first book in Heidi McLaughlin’s new sports romance series! What happens when Ethan, a HOT baseball player falls for Daisy, a baseball fan he spots in the stands? Will he strike out? Will she take one for the team? Will this rookie make too many errors and not be able score? Secrets and lies are exposed and threaten to bench their budding relationship.

Ok…I need to know if Heidi is really a sports journalist. Huge baseball fan? Or just a kick-ass writer who made me like baseball? I got sucked into this book and this game from the players POV. I even enjoyed the World Series this year. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this sexy sports series.

Heidi McLaughlin hits it out of the park with Third Base. To say that Ethan and Daisy stole the show is an understatement. After having read McLaughlin's other series, I was a tad worried going into Third Base that nobody could steal away the love I felt for Liam Page (or Westbury, depending on which version of that lovable bad boy you prefer), but Ethan Davenport hit a grand slam!!!

If you're looking for a book with a baseball playing bad boy with a reputation for living outside the box, and a love story to melt even the coldest of hearts, Third Base is going to be your ticket.

Thank you Heidi for another fantastic book that'll keep you guessing and keep the pages turning. I almost canceled Halloween to finish, but alas, my kids needed their candy.

Five "I finally understand a little more about baseball" stars for Ethan and Third Base.

Ethan Davenport is Boston’s most eligible bachelor. Daisy is a quiet college student and big fan of the Boston Renegades, and she just happened to catch Ethan's eye. Daisy is not like any of the women Ethan is use to, and this what made me LOVE Daisy! She wasn't falling all over Ethan because of who he was, if anything she kept him on his toes and keeps him guessing from the moment they meet. A romance blooms and feelings start to grow but with most relationships they hit a few bumps in the road. Can Ethan and Daisy survive a major secret that has been kept or will it be over before they ever had a serious chance?

Trust me you don't want to miss out on what happens with Ethan and Daisy! Third Base is a grand slam by Heidi McLaughlin!

Heidi knocked it out of the park. I absolutely love this book from start to finish. When Ethan Davenport sees Daisy for the first time he wants to talk to her but is nervous. Seeing her every game since she is a season ticket holder is making Ethan want to meet her even more. Finally getting enough courage to talk to Daisy, Ethan's world will never be the same. When lies are told and exposed how will their love survive? Absolutely love this book and characters and I just want to reread this story all over again. Heidi hit a grand slam with this book and I can't wait for more book in this series

2.5 STARS

I was very torn on how to review Third Base. I wavered on whether or not to round up to 3 STARS because there were things I really liked about this book, but I felt there was just too much left to be desired and at the end of the day, the book just fell short.

Much of Third Base flowed smoothly, I felt it moved quickly and I enjoyed it at times. I very much appreciated that Heidi McLaughlin changed up the predictability of this sports romance by writing it from the point of view of the hero, the athlete, Ethan Davenport. His romantic interest, Daisy, was more of a mystery in this story and I liked that I didn't really know what to expect.

With that said, there were many times where things felt very disjointed, a bit all over the place. The connection between these characters was missing something. They went from barely divulging any information about their lives with each other to rapidly falling for each other and jumping into bed without a fluid, believable transition. I'll admit that at around the 40% mark I contemplated DNFing, but instead decided to browse other reviews, something I never do, because I wanted to see if it was just me who was struggling to find a connection, to see if things picked up. A review that angrily called Ethan a cheater made me dive right back into the book because I love a story where the main character does something icky to cause pain and angst and emotional turmoil, so I was definitely curious to see where this story was going to go after seeing that. I'm not sure I'd consider what does transpire as cheating, but I will say that it was one of my favorite parts of the book because it added an angsty, dramatic layer I felt the book had been lacking.

Heidi McLaughlin is a lovely writer, and there was a lot about this story that I did enjoy. But as a whole, the story just didn't feel as thoroughly fleshed out as I felt it could have been, nor do I feel that it turned out to be an especially memorable book. The big twist, Daisy's secrets, I couldn't buy into. I can't elaborate without spoilers, I'll just say that none of it jived for me personally. I know it sounds crazy that I can overlook what Ethan did but can't really wrap my head around Daisy's deception, but I just didn't understand it. It just didn't work for me. I wasn't sold.

At the end of the day, I think readers will like this story for its light romanticism and the refreshing perspective of Ethan. I also should note that I'm looking forward to seeing more about Ethan's teammates, I hope they get their own books. As far as Heidi McLaughlin's books go, this story fell short of what I'd hoped, but I certainly look forward to more.

I have to hand it to Heidi McLaughlin, when it comes to baseball, she knows her stuff. Unfortunately, Third Base, as a romance, went a little off the rails for me.

Daisy and Ethan didn’t make sense to me. She started off shy, unsure of herself, a virgin. She was secretive and avoided answering questions about herself at all costs. Ethan is self-assured, an open-book that is trying to prove to her that everything that she reads in the Bo-Re Blog about him is just rumors. But, somewhere in between the secrets, the lies, they fall in love.

I also had a hard time following the story. The timelines and the flow of the book didn’t seem to work for me. Ethan graduated college with a Communication Degree but had to go and take a Media Course because he didn’t know how to handle speaking with the press? He is constantly complaining about his batting average, being in a slump, but is on the All Star Team. He’s all in with Daisy but, after one disagreement, he’s in his ex-girlfriend’s arms? She’s in school to be a Journalist, he’s a Communication Major and neither one of them knew how to talk to each other? I also felt that the sex between these two was a little forced … nothing seemed to happen naturally. These are just a few of the things that had me, unfortunately, scratching my head.

Third Base is filled with a lot of baseball, a lot of baseball references. If you are not aware of the rivalry between Boston and New York, if you don’t know Robinson Cano, what “hitting for the cycle” means or why the All Star Break is such a big deal, you may be a little lost. Fortunately, I grew up in a baseball family, have had dinner with Major League Umpires, had the pleasure of meeting several minor league players that eventually did become major league players (if only I got Derek Jeter’s autograph when I met him) and will yell at the TV as long and loud as my husband, I understood what Heidi McLaughlin was saying. But, honestly, there was a little too much emphasis on the game and not enough on the characters.

Do I want to see where Heidi McLaughlin is going to bring the rest of the players from the Boston Renegade? Sure. I do hope that she does cut-back on some of the baseball and focuses more on the relationship that is building between the characters, their lives off the field.

I loved this book!
I am a big baseball fan and this book was written for and by a true fan. I loved the game refrences, the team refrences and especially the part about All Star game being in Cincinnati. I live in Cincinnati and saw the excitement of this game first hand. This is a baseball book but there is a sweet romance story building through the sport theme.
The love story between Ethan and Daisy was a slow building attraction that we watch develop into love. The game brought them together she a fan and he a player. Like in any relationship they stumble and get back up but there is a big secret she holds that could end them for good.
I have loved all of Heidi's books but I do think this might be favorite! A simple sweet story that made me smile, a bit of angst, some steamy scenes, and some emotional moments that brought tears. I fell in love with the story and the characters and could not put it down!

I thought this book rather boring and found myself skipping through because I held out hope it would get better. The connection between Ethan and Daisy was not believable, maybe because we only heard his POV and she came across like a bitch.

3.5 Stars - 3 Flames

I'm not exactly sure that the first edition of the book was like, but I like this one. In fact, I really like this cover more than the first. It fits Ethan a LOT more than the first. Now that I've gotten that off my chest, let's get down to business.

Ethan is a twenty-two year old in his second year in the Majors. Yep, THE Majors. He's the golden boy of the team and the current bachelor catch. But after getting caught in a "not his fault" situation and then tweeting his home address, he's been the butt of the city's Blogger jokes. Not to mention the management won't let him give interviews even though he's the one helping the team out the most on the field. Although the Blogger is annoying with the gossip side of the blog, said Blogger actually knows what they're talking about when it comes to Baseball and stats. So much so that it's hard NOT to pay attention to what's being said.

Daisy is a twenty year old college student at Boston U. Soon to be twenty-one. She's also a season ticket holder, sitting behind the enemies dugout along third base. She's a loyal fan who is always wearing the teams shirt and never misses a game. After a year of giving Ethan eyes and smiles, he finally has the nerve to invite her up to the clubhouse to meet face to face.

This story is unique to me in the sense that it's written in Ethan's POV and I LOVE that. I very rarely get a chance to read in the male POV, even in a sports story. You know what else was unique? I actually didn't like the girl. I know, right? It's usually the other way around. But not in this case. Where Ethan is nothing but honest, down to earth, giving up everything to be with this chick (yep, I used that word), Daisy is quite honestly the opposite. She lies to Ethan from the VERY BEGINNING and continues to do so even after she's given multiple chances to come clean. Where Ethan sticks his neck out to make life easier for her and her grandfather, she continues to deceive him, over and over again.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!! STOP READING IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!

It's not hard to figure out that Daisy is the Blogger. Duh. She's a journalism major, always has her phone on her and is very secretive about everything. I mean, it's pretty much given away in the first 20% of the book. But I digress. The reason I'm spoiling this is because she not only writes crap about Ethan's teammates (gossip), but actually gossips about herself dating Ethan. Trying to make it sound like it's someone else is writing the blog? I don't know. But it was super weird and only made me dislike her even more. Especially when the poo hits the fan and Ethan NEVER questions why she wrote about THEM...only about his teammates. It just didn't sit well with me.

All in all, I DID enjoy this book though. Probably because I really liked all of the baseball stats and always felt like I was at the game.

4.5 For Love of the Game Stars

ARC generously provided by the author in exchange for an HONEST review.

I loved this book from the very first page to the very last sentence. As a reader, we desire to be immersed in the story. The feel of each word should wrap around your mind and if you're lucky connect with your soul. Ms. McLaughlin has achieved both with this story.

Ethan is a rising star in professional baseball entering his sophomore year in the league. He's young and has made some "rookie" mistakes on how he handled himself off the field. While he's trying to right some wrongs, he's been keeping an eye on the girl by the third base line. They have made eye contact more times that he can count.

Daisy Robinson, a college student, is a true fan in every sense of the word. She never, EVER misses a Renegades home game. She sees third baseman Ethan Davenport each time and notices him glancing at her.

Ethan finally decides to make a move to get to know the mysterious girl he's been seeing since last season. Daisy isn't going to make this easy on Ethan either, but he's up for the challenge. Daisy has a seriousness about her that Ethan must take care to respect her boundaries. I truly adored how he treated Daisy with such care.

A lovely dance of flirting, getting to know one another and breaking down barriers of the heart are set before us. Such a emotional ride we are taken on for with our hero and heroine.

The story is rich with baseball, from facts about the game to locker room rapport. It serves to enhance the feel of the book. Yes, you should be familiar with the sport, but it will translate to those who don't adore the game of baseball. It becomes almost a supporting cast member in the book.

Another winner for Ms. McLaughlin.

Happy Reading~ Sherry

Buuuut this just is at best boring....

There are long passages with baseball details. I am not a baseball fan, so I am not sure if all those rather scripted feeling details work better for a fan. For me how ever they were just sleep inducing.

Actually most of this was. It was really long wound.
I could have lived with that, but then there are all the cliches
I mean it's packed with every damn cliche of the genre I could think of.

Well and if that wasn't bad enough...
The characters are ... annoying?
I mean let's not even look at the romance- insta everything, while pretending we taking it slow- but DUDE?! trustworthy much?!
Both act in ways I found annoying, not that I was surprised by ANY of the twists. Nope this is predictable deluxe. Not only are all the characters super cliche they also felt impersonal and uninteresting.
I finished this, feeling like....
