Had me crying like a baby! This is the 3rd book I’ve read in the series and it did not disappoint . I liked being able to catch up on all of the other characters in the story. HEA and no cliffhanger which is always a huge plus in my book!
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book. I've read Ava Stone's Scandalous series (historical romance) but this is the first contemporary I've picked up by this author. It definitely won't be my last! The story centers around Emery and Jason. Emery left town after high school to pursue acting as well as to escape her overbearing mother. Her first love, Jason, was also left behind. Now, home for Thanksgiving, Emery is waiting to introduce her fiancé to her family. Instead, she runs into Jason. Jason, still in love with her, spends his time taking care of his cancer-stricken mother. The more they are together, the more Emery begins to question how she left Jason in the first place. Despite her engagement, it's obvious from the beginning of the book that she is still in love with Jason.
This was a great store to read. I enjoy the story being told by both Jason and Emery's perspectives. Ms. Stone does a great job of creating like-able characters with a strong story line.
I have decided Jason is going to be my new book boyfriend. He is smart, funny, loyal, and loves with his whole heart. I wanted to not like Emery for leaving him, but she was living her life to the fullest, and actually did something with herself. Although, it is easy to see how she could get sucked into the life of lights and glamour with someone like Hunter Shaw. I am so glad she found out what a creep he was before they tied the knot. It was so cute seeing how easy Emery and Jason ended up back together, even though they were both fighting it because of her engagement to Hunter. Sometimes, love really is all you need. It is true what they say, you never forget your first love. I was so happy to see they got a second chance. Ava Stone does a wonderful hooking you and keeping you engaged the whole story. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.
Jason and Emery have know each other since second grade and have been in love for most of that time. Right after high school, Emery left and Jason stayed in Wheston. After 4 years, Emery comes back but she is engaged to someone else. Jason can't believe that she really has moved on even though they haven't seen each other in all this time. He still loves her. Jason has a lot of problems right now. His mom is dying and his father has pretty much abandoned them. Emery wants to be there to help Jason, but she isn't sure she can do that without involving her heart. After all, she is engaged to someone else.
This book blew me away. Talk about hitting you right in the feels! I found myself laughing and cheering as much as I found myself grumbling before finally tearing only to be swept back up again. The guys from Desolate Sun are back and I could not be happier. Once again, Ava Stone builds depth into their characters and relationships while seemingly without effort weaving an intimate story focusing on just one. I am a huge fan of this series and I can't wait for more.
