After seeing Gallareal killed, and banishing the Paragon Dracus from the Heart Tree's side of the world, Vanx from the little Zythian village called, Malic, and his canine familiar, Sir Poopsalot, find themselves alone in a strange part of Harthgar. The Octrant tower, at least the one they appeared in, is unusable, and the rough, seemingly uninhabited land proves unlivable, even for one as skilled as our half-Zythian hero. But all Vanx wants to do is get he and his dog, back to Saint Elm's Deep, where he can grieve over the loss of the first woman he'd ever really let into his heart. Will Vanx and Poops survive long enough to find a way? Or will the blue-glowing, dragon torturing, Paragon shape shifter want revenge? After all, Vanx is on its turf now, and he may be in for more than he can handle. Vanx just wants to go home, but he may end up having to stick around until he finishes what's been started. Don't miss M. R. Mathias' The Far Side of Creation - The Legend of Vanx Malic, book seven.
M. R. Mathias is a member of the Authors Guild who cares for his wife, a Breast Cancer Warrior who has Parkinson's. After raising two boys into fine young men, they and two dogs split their time between a modest smalltown home, and an apartment built on a floating dock on Lake Ultura (aka Lake Texoma) which foots into an amazing State Park brimming with all sorts of wildlife. Like the wizards of old, he tends to the animals who share the area and inspire the creatures in his works. He likes to fish, write, play guitar, and he builds all sorts of things out of reclaimed wood. He sold over two million eBooks most of them before eBooks were cool. His work is critically acclaimed, and has earned multiple literary awards, including a coveted Locus Poll nomination.

M. R. Mathias is an author who knows how to get readers with his magic spell and he has done it again with The Far Side of Creation, Boo 7 in The Legend of Vanx Malic series. For those who have read his earlier works in the series, there is no doubt that he has a unique signature for plot and character development. Readers are introduced to Vanx and his companion facing huge challenges in an unfamiliar terrain. Far away from Saint Elms Deep, can they triumph over the challenges and make their way home safely? The reader is thrust into a world of magic and dragons and shapeshifters.
I love the way the author creates complex issues, the intricacy of the plot and the tight holes in which the characters find themselves. The plot is fast and the twists are many. One never knows what to expect and the sense of impending danger only grows as one reads from one powerful scene to another. There is a lot of action to keep the readers heart beating fast. There are unpleasant surprises, but the reader is keen to follow what happens to the heroes. This one was electrifying, breezy, and utterly satisfying.
In this tale of Vanx Malic and His familiar; dog Sir Poops Alot (not exactly what Id name my dog. . .) Are grieving the loss of Vanx love. The Daughter of the woman He tried to save and let only due to bedding her Mother... a dutchess in book 1.
Vanx ane Poops on a mission of sorts to free their friends. They're Tired and starving they meet up with a Wizard who points them in the direction they must go. They are caught up by a trickster and have to defeat odd creatures such as a giant lizard who tries to eat Poops and 2 giant elementals. Vanxs species is finally explained as half witch and half human.
This book was a little hard to follow. it jumps around all over the place and it was slightly confusing. I enjoyed the first book and am hoping the next is a bit easier to read.
Vanx made it through the Octrant tower, and now he and Sir Poopsalot must figure out how to get back to Saint Elm’s Deep, to grieve the loss of Gallarael. Unfortunately, there is a large, pissed off, glowing blue shape shifter out for revenge standing between him and his journey. He has sent the Paragon home, and now he may have to battle on his turf.
The seventh installment of the Vanx Malic series picks up the pace seen in the earlier stories and I was much relieved to read that pace all the way through, as I felt a couple of the books dragged a bit. This one had magic and dragon fighting, all while mourning the loss of a lover, which is more of what I expect from M.R. Mathias. He did not disappoint on this go-round. I thought this book was a great read and read it all in one day. While I understand the necessary plot setting that has happened in previous books, I thought this one was a welcome change back to some of the earlier types of stories and look forward to more of the journeys and villains to come.
