Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.
This is a very long and detailed biography, with transcriptions of a large number of letters from Charles II to Henrietta that apparently hadn't been printed before. It's a bit dated, and is written in an older style of writing that isn't quite as stylish and opinionated as modern biographies tend to be, but in spite of that I really enjoyed it. The ending is devastatingly sad, but given that Henrietta had the worst husband in France and was stuck married to him for life, you might be left feeling that she had a merciful escape. Given how terrible her health was, it's apparently a wonder she lived as long as she did.
