"Reunion" is the second book in “World Without Love,” a suspense thriller series with an erotic edge. The series is a continuing story and is meant to be read in sequence, beginning with Book One, titled "Betrayed," which is available in kindle eBook and paperback from Amazon
In "Reunion," Jewel's story continues as she finds herself stranded in a far-flung corner of the world. Struggling to elude her captors and a network of bounty hunters, she meets her would-be savior, a man who promises to provide protection and comfort. Believing her nightmare has finally come to an end, Jewel begins making plans to return home, where she can start her life over again. But greed raises its ugly head, and the terrifying future she thought she'd evaded becomes a reality. Deceived by the only one she believed she could trust, Jewel is left defenseless against the sadistic abusers who take pleasure in teaching her their own form of discipline. With the dream of rescue and returning home to San Diego even further from her reach, she begins planning her revenge on the men who have stolen her life—and her future.
"Reunion" contains mature content and is intended for an 18+ audience
Jaye Frances is the author of "The New Girl in Town" and the suspense thriller series, "World Without Love." The trilogy includes “Betrayed,” "Reunion," and "Redemption." Her other books include "The Beach," a psychological thriller about the possibilities—and horror—of wishful thinking, "The Kure," a romance novel set in with a paranormal twist set in post Civil War Kentucky, and "Love Travels Forever," a collection of seventeen poignant short stories.
One of the signs that I'm really into a book/series is when I break out of my reading plan and snatch one up out of order. In this case, I had just read the previous book in this series with plans to go on to a few others before coming back for book two. Instead, I immediately clicked this one open and kept going with this dark, intense, and suspenseful tale of a young woman who was taken by slavers, got away, and now a dramatic twist has brought her full circle.
Yes! Resounding yes, you must read these in order. In fact, if you're planning to read the series and don't want to have the good stuff spoiled for you, please don't read further until you've gotten book one under your belt.
The story picks up where the first one left off. Jewel is rescued from the sea by a fisherman and is taken to his home and cared for by his wife while he goes to start the process of contacting the American Consulate. Jewel starts to relax her guard and enjoy her time feeling safe at last.
Only, it's not a person from the American Consulate who arrives to take her away. She winds up back with the slavers who had a bounty out for her return. The Captain is as cold and cruel as ever and his crew are as eager to punish her and sample her wares as things march steadily toward the auction block and her sale into sexual slavery. And it's there that Jewel receives two surprises and a potential new fate if the offer can be trusted.
So, Jewel's nightmare is broken up by a brief time of rest before she is back into the nightmare. This book was intense with the unknown and Jewel's fear, but it is also filled with her working to keep from being broken and crushed and to find a way to escape the inescapable.
There are exciting moments, but for the most part, the author relies on tone and tension to wind out this even-paced story.
It is as dark in the actions against Jewel as the first book, but yet I felt that it drifted more toward the dubious than the non-consent. Jewel understands her power as a woman over men's weaker lusts and uses it. I think it was her limited power that gives the reader hope in her ugly, seeming hopeless circumstances. I wasn't even all that devastated when she ended up losing her new found freedom because I expected it.
The characters are all interesting even the ones that are absolutely vile. I still am left intrigued by those who would sear their consciences and make their living in the slave trade though that feeling goes no where near warmth or sympathy. I definitely want Jewel to win and to get her revenge on them all.
Now, I look forward to where the events at the end of this story will take Jewel. I encourage those who enjoy or are curious about dark erotica to give this series a try.
My thanks to the author who provided a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This is book two in the "World Without Love" series by Jaye Frances. 'Reunion' does have a cliffhanger at the end to set you up for the next book in the series. 'Reunion' starts off with finding out what happened to Jewel after going a drift in the water. Jewel is still having a hard time of it and it's not looking to good for her. Jewel had thought she might be in the clear but things aren't always what they seem. Now Jewel is back to trying to save herself and getting out of this nightmare adventure. This book hoods you back in! It has you fighting for Jewel to get out of this mess that her husband has put her in. I can't wait to see what comes next!!!
Such a beautiful cover for Reunion by Jaye Frances, but I can guarantee you that the story inside is VERY far from simple. Violence, torture, rape and abuse beyond my imagination keep me riveted as I eagerly anticipate Jewel getting her revenge.
“Even in hell, there are rules…”
Reunion is Book II in the World Without Love series and it does need to be read in order.
We pick up where we left off and I was eager to read more of Jewel’s tragic story. Reunion did not start the way I thought it would and I love it when an author can surprise me.
I still concentrated more on the story than the sex, but it seems at this point, she is so lost that she’ll fuck anything that walks. I love figuring out why characters do what they do, so I am trying to figure out Jewel’s motivation. Is it her horrendous experiences making her reach out for human contact that is not about force or torture? Is it about control?
How evil must a person be to take someone to the edge of death for their own pleasure, smiling and enjoying the experience?
I can’t help but blush at the sex…but I do read it all. To me, it is pivotal to the story.
I must give this 5 Stars for scaring the crap out of me! It shows just how easy it is to get into something over our heads because it is hard to believe how EVIL, sadistic and savage people can be. BUT, I believe. Sooooo…be careful of who you trust.
I didn’t see the twist at the end coming and…OH NO…I am left with a huge cliffhanger. No worries, Book III, Redemption is out, so I will not have to wait for the conclusion of Jewel’s story.
To sum it up, I am surprised at how much I LOVE this twisted story. I can hardly wait to find out how she gets her revenge!
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Reunion by Jaye Frances.
So I have to admit I was disappointed to have book 1 end in a cliffhanger, but I was happy to find that book 2 was already available, but was again disappointed to find another cliffhanger….ugh! There were again some very difficult scenes. Things are definitely not always like they seem and this book did not disappoint in the suspense department. Jewel really had a struggle...it was like fate was never on her side. I cannot wait for book 3 in the series.
Great Read! So much suspense and drama, I was hooked from beginning to end. I am looking forward to finding out what happens next! Great characters and plenty of steam.
Reunion is the second book in Jaye Francis' "World Without Love" series. You must read the first book, Betrayed, in order to understand everything that is happening. Unfortunately (or fortunately), there will be a third book, so while the main character, Jewel, finds that her problems have evolved, they are still far from resolved.
Jewel is still on the run from well-monied people intent on keeping her as a sex slave. She has no place to hide, no one to trust... She must survive using those assets with which she can leverage which include, not only her body, but also her brain.
The writing is great. Just as in Betrayed, the story will pull you along page-by-page with its gripping action. I felt that my expectations were met and I'm dying to see how things turn out in book 3.
Once again, this is an adult novel with both consensual and nonconsensual sexual activity and with a good deal of ff (woohoo!).
**Two and a half stars** “Reunion”, is the second in the ‘World Without Love’ series by Jaye Francis. It’s an easy read even though the subject matter could be considered challenging in its darkness. I was reminded this story is not consensual; this is dubcon at best and is dirtier and grittier.
While the first book was vivid and lifelike, I found the continuation more meager. The story picks up with Jewel having been rescued by fishermen and taken to their home. Jewel relaxes her guard and plans for her future, believing herself nearly safe. Unfortunately, this book is terribly dismal with betrayal heaped on top of betrayal. Every flickering light of hope of rescue is snuffed out cruelly and repeatedly. There were passages I read that required re-reading due to my resistance to the flow of the story or skepticism about its direction. For me, there was even a hint of predictability, ala “Perils of Pauline” where an action or conclusion was expected. I know this is part of a series, but HATE cliffhangers so another demerit was earned there.
As with the first in the series, it is important to remember the many triggers in this book including kidnapping, rape, sexual slavery and human trafficking. It is understandable to want to know how it all ends, but proceed with caution.
