I read this book several years ago as part of a quest for pseudoscience experiments that one can do at home, and talk about a long-term trip down a rabbit hole! I bought a pendulum online, tried using it to hunt ghosts and place bets (bad idea, by the way) ultimately used it to help me design and hand craft another pendulum. Now I use that one routinely to help make coin-toss decisions regarding everything from how to arrange my furniture to what to eat (the thing has actually formulated recipes for me). I don't know what makes it swing the way it swings, but it seems wiser than a coin toss, and endlessly mysterious.

This is a really hard book to review. It has elements of other cultures and using them but aside from that is filled with so much more about pendulum work than I have ever seen before. This is a game changer and step up for my practice but I do realize the text is problematic. Unsure whether to suggest it or not.

I'm not sure this is really a beginner beginner book. It starts off mentioning positive and negative responses without defining what those are for one thing. I imagine someone completely unfamiliar to be lost when reading this. It does give lots of exercises that could be useful. But there are also explanations that seem seriously dated. The parlor trick exercises have more in common with the New Thought of the 50s and 60s than anything else I can think of. In fact toward the end of the book there's a brief section on Max Freedom Long 'Huna' which has absolutely nothing to do with pendulums and includes no mention of them. It seems to be pasted into the book. I hadn't seen a reference to him or that sort of 'Huna' in years since actual Hawaiians have completely deconstructed its origins. For the record this 'Huna' has nothing to do with actual native Hawaiian practice. It's a bunch of invented crap attributed to ancient wisdom like many other things. It's never good to see that in a book and in this case it's there for absolutely no reason for it except maybe to pad out the book with more pages. From that and the old fashioned 'new thought' orientation in the book I get the impression it was written many years ago but the copy I have says 'first edition 2002.' So I think it may be a reprint of something older published under a different title. It has that old-fashioned feel throughout. Overall it's the sort of okay-to-poor kind of book you can expect from Lllewellyn*. I wouldn't recommend it. You'll find better instructions and exercises on the internet for free. If I'd paid $12.95 for this book instead of 25¢ I'd be very unhappy with the purchase.

* That's not to say they don't have good authors. They definitely do.

This is an alright book. It’s not the best but it certainly isn’t the worst. The majority of the book will be helpful for beginners. There are some problematic aspects to this book which any reader should wary of.

The author includes things such as using your pendulum for food allergies and diagnosing illnesses. This is just unsafe to tell beginners.

The author mentions that it’s your subconscious that isn’t allowing you to lose weight. Once you can get your subconscious on board, the weight will magically come off. Conveniently, he also mentions how he has a weight loss program.

He also spends the end of the book discussing Hawaiian magic. It doesn’t have much to do with the purpose of the book and boarders on cultural appropriation. He claims the knowledge was nearly lost when an outsider wasn’t given answers to a closed practice. The whole chapter is filled with slight hints that the people who belong to the beliefs do not want outsiders to partake in their culture yet, these men continue to push that boundary to get the answers they feel are deserved. It has absolutely nothing to do with the pendulum. The ideas are not necessarily only found in Hawaiian culture either. This is the only reason the author includes it, since you must combine it with your pendulum to actually accomplish anything advanced.

Overall, it has ideas for beginners. It’s rare to find a book on a specific tool so there isn’t a lot of competition on the topic.

This book is an easy read, and features many different uses of the pendulum. If the author's opinions are correct, the pendulum might just be one of the most versatile, yet underrated tools in any seeker's arsenal.

Webster outlines not only the well-known uses of the pendulum, such as answering yes/no questions and dowsing, but also how to use it for magic, self-improvement, healing and psychic development.

I have read the book in its entirety, and thoroughly enjoyed Webster's easygoing style. Now I'm starting back at the beginning, working through the exercises, to see if I can get any of this to work for me.

Whether you believe in this sort of thing or not, this was a nice introduction to using pendulums to answer questions, find things, and do all sorts of fascinating bits of magick. I was recently given a lovely pendulum as a gift, wanted to read about the "proper" way to use it, and picked this from a few recommendations. A nice, fast read that gives information clearly, with few fanciful flourishes of the sort that tick me off when I read nonfiction metaphysical books.

Good book. New to pendulums, I purchased a pendulum for the first time to use specifically with this book as my first foray into pendulums and pendulum magic. The results I had were mixed primarily for the resons Webster cites in his book--practice is required to become adept and your energy field must be clear from attachments to a particular answer. The two things I would have loved to see in this book was how to use this pendulum in love and prosperity.

Pretty great book on the subject for beginners. You get exercises to try and pratice with, background info, examples and stories of other people's experiences with the Pendulum and so on. However, near the end of the book I think Mr. Webster goes a little too in-depth into the Hawaiian Magic thing there, but I guess maybe it's nessisary to tie it in to the Pendulum part of that section. Still a good read and quite informative.

I have a pendulum and wanted to learn more about it and how to use it. I have used it for several years in my work as a massage therapist and to clear my own chakras. Reading this book has provided ideas for other ways to use a pendulum. Easy to read and understand. I appreciated the final chapter on Huna, a Hawaiian practice, which I read while on the Big Island and began to practice.

This book had so much more than I was even looking for! Not only did it help me to communicate with my pendulum and intuition but it also gave me so many more methods of using the pendulum, than I would have ever considered!

This, like all of Richards work that I have read is well written & usable. A practical book that gives a very good grounding in the use of the pendulum.
