All three books of the Flamestone Trilogy are included in this box set.
Elaine has spent her sixteen years proving that she's nothing like her murderous father--but no one will let her forget her dark family history. So when her best friend Talia is missing, Elaine takes the search and rescue into her own hands.
But on her quest, Elaine crosses through a portal and into a vast, pristine wilderness. She finds herself in an alien world filled with strange wildlife, sprawling forests, deep caves and immense danger.
And Elaine's the only person in it. Her phone has no bars. There's no Facebook. 911 is useless. As if that's not bad enough, she failed summer camp.
And there's the monsters underground, ready to come out and hunt as soon as night falls. In order to survive and rescue her friend from them, Elaine may have to embrace her dark family history after all.
The story continues in Found (#2 Flamestone Trilogy) and concludes with Freed (#3 Flamestone Trilogy.)
Holly Hook is the author of the Destroyers Series, which consists of five young adult books about teens who are walking disasters...literally. She is also the author of the Rita Morse series, a young adult fantasy series still in progress, and After These Messages, a short ya comedy. Currently she is writing Twisted, a spin-off of the Destroyers Series due out in December. When not writing, she enjoys reading books for teens, especially ya fantasy and paranormal series with a unique twist.
The three books read as three parts of the same book.. Holly creates such interesting characters.. Her heroine, Elaine goes from a scared sixteen year old to a responsible young woman in a few days.. Along the way, she meets a cast of interesting people and not all are human..
I received all three of these books for free for an honest review. I have to say I loved these books!! These books are out of my normal reading genre, but I was so glad to give it a try!! Made my gym time go much faster.
Alone is about a girl named Elaine, whose friend Talia went missing. Elaine, her boyfriend, Shawn and their friend, Travis, go searching for Talia in the house she was last seen in. The adventure starts from there and Elaine's boyfriend and friend end up getting taken off by the dwellers underground and Elaine gets away. She ends up in what is like another dimension where there are centipedes that are bigger than humans. She friends an animal that is like a dog, which she names Pit. Pit helps her get through the wooded area and on the way to where a settlement is. What Elaine doesn't know is who is behind this Flamestone Society and gets a huge surprise at the end as to who it is!! That was something I totally didn't see coming!!!
Elaine finds the settlement at the end of Alone. Found is what goes on in the settlement. Ned is the head guy and he does not trust Elaine. Elaine becomes friends with the people there and then things happen and Ned decides that Elaine and her friends have to prove themselves and bring back the arm of a Flamestone Society member with their tattoo. Instead they go back to the settlement underground. They find who the traitor is and the Dwellers come and take Antoine, a kind of nerd guy. Elaine, Wesley, Jaden and Baxter all go looking into the mines for Antoine. What comes next will be an BIG shocker!!! This book leaves you with a major cliffhanger!!!!
Freed is the end of a trilogy about Elaine and her friends in a different dimension. After getting away from her step-father, Elaine and Wesley travel even deeper into the tunnels to find Elaine's boyfriend and friends. They encounter squids that eat light and a giant worm that eats anything that is in its way!!! They come upon people (Disgraced) that live in the deep part of the mines that have managed to escape from the Dwellers. In their travels further into the mine, Elaine and friends come upon the heart of the Flamestone. So many twists and turns in this book that you are just not seeing what Elaine is thinking when she ends up leaving her friends and going away with the Dwellers. It is an ending that you surely don't want to miss!!!
Alone - Ms Hooks has done it again. This is a fast paced and action filled and not your standard little girl lost story. Elaine is trying to be a good friend and when Talia disappears she goes looking for her. She ends up in another world and now its all about survival. We are taken somewhere and there are all of these thingies the can hurt you and it looks nothing like you're prepared for then it's night and noises and feet and yeah, Get your copy this is a game changer. Great characters and visual!
Found - This series just keeps getting better. Now having found others who have built a compound in this other world all she needs to do is convince them to help her rescue her friends from the mines. But then all hell breaks loose and we find out about this society and the other people and more creatures. Wow I have no idea how this was done but this series is strong with a great story line that just sucks you in. The way the lives intermingle and the characters grow and the action just flows. Great story and characters. I can't get enough of this series which is a little different from the others Hooks has written but just as AWESOME!
Freed - Wow is all I can say as the story turns to returning underground into the tunnels to retrieve their friends. The dangers in the tunnels make each of them face their deepest fears of what goes bump in the dark and makes them stronger than ever. The saga continues and once again you find yourself late into the night and still turning pages. Great characters make you feel like you are right in the midst of the story with them.
Very well imagined fantasy adventure with a twisty plot, this first person YA story moves at a good pace throughout and has a dramatic and clever conclusion. However, characterization was weak, and there were one or two places where I felt that the story was too naive. For example, the heroine feeling faint with hunger within twenty-four hours of her last meal. Nonetheless, the story was good enough to grip, the imagined world fascinating, and I felt it was worth the price for the trilogy.
This is a great trilogy. I don't like romance novels. I like books that have fantasy and paranormal themes. This is a great fantasy trilogy. Can't wait to read the 4th book.
These books really took me on a great journey through an inventive world. It literally came to life on the pages. The characters and the world were woven in such grand detail. It was an amazing story. I highly recommend
