(1 Paperback Transcripts and Glossary and 4 audio cassettes) Science of Survival is a truly monumental work. Its original subtitle, "Simplified, Faster Dianetics Techniques" understates the book's real scope. It is in fact the first accurate prediction of human behavior in man's history. In the months that followed the publication of Science of Survival and its Chart of Human Evaluation, Ron lectured frequently on the subject of human behavior and expanded on the use of the book and chart. Two of these lectures are presented here. In "Theta-MEST Theory" Ron gives the how and why of the Tone Scale and the Chart of Human Evaluation. He shows exactly how a being's collisions with the universe of matter, energy, space and time determine his level on the Tone Scale, and how that level can decline over a lifetime, ending in death. And more importantly, he shows how to reverse the process with Dianetics technology. In "The Chart of Human Evaluation" Ron shows how to use the chart to cut through a person's social veneer to reach the true character of the person - their attitudes, honesty and future behavior. He demonstrates the many indicators one can use to tag a person on the chart - including the appearance of their body, their medical state, what they find humorous and many other factors. These two milestone lectures are now being made available for the first time as the Science of Survival Lectures.
“I like to help others and count it as my greatest pleasure in life to see a person free himself of the shadows which darken his days.”
—L. Ron Hubbard
L. Ron Hubbard is universally acclaimed as the single most influential author and humanitarian of this modern age. His definitive works on the mind and spirit—comprising over 350 million copies in circulation and more than 40 international bestsellers—have resulted in a legacy benefiting millions and a movement spanning all cultures.
Written a year after "Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health", this book shows the beginnings of the switch into religion. Life force, called "theta" exists in another universe and when it intersects with this universe, that breathes life into people, animals, fungi, etc. The concepts in Dianetics are imbued with mystical sources from another dimension. Because that's how the author thinks it probably works.
This text really does teach you how to predict human behavior.
It explains a body of data known as the "tone scale", which is a gradient scale of emotional tone levels that a person can experience. The book not only gives a perfect description of each of these tone levels, but it also gives you information on why a person has a particular tone level and how to change it.
You can also evaluate for yourself your own emotional tone level.
I found this book to be a journey of self discovery as well as a tome of data I use daily to interact with my coworkers, clients and professionals in my field.
You NEED to know the data in this book if you intend to be a serious business person. Working in today's business world without knowledge of Mr. Hubbard's emotional tone scale will land you in trouble sooner or later.
After completing a personality test as a 16 year-old back in the 80's, I went in to get the results in a small office on the corner in Bellevue, WA. The guy was friendly, helpful, and based on the results of my personality test, was shy of clairvoyant (kidding). So if I wanted to 'fix' my deficiencies, I could sign up for some workshops. I passed on that but bought this book instead. Learned a great deal from it. Also filled with red glags I was able to recognize even as a 16 year-old. Years later the dangers of Scientology exploded and fortunately I was not part of it. These past twenty some years in the mental health field, I look back and see that reading that book was my third brush with cults and manipulative/coercive psychology.
There are too many wonderful books out there to waste time with this one. You won't learn anything that will help you understand Scientology here. Read Going Clear instead.
I got a copy of this book a year or so ago, really cheap. It's awful, like all of Hubbard's work, but it's also my "favorite" of the Dianetics stuff. It's so pretentiously overblown, it's almost entertaining. Hubbard's attempt to be "scientific," while describing a pseudoscience that blends religious mysticism with science fiction, gives the book a truly bizarre tone. Seriously, sometimes while reading a Dianetics or Scientology book, I'm thinking, was he just joking all this time, while he watched the money roll in? Or was he just crazy?
I don't generally take issue with Scientology, though I'm sort of uncomfortable with the fact that this book calls for the mass incarceration of Homosexuals as we are, if you would, the slime of society predisposed towards treachery.
Great information. The fact that all of us act and respond to life on a certain emotional scale is most accurate. Depending on what tragedies we have experienced in life, can cause us to be in a chronic apathy or other level of emotional tone.
This book also identifies how to discern where others are on the scale itself, and how to speak to those that attack us with a negative communication. Great technology.
After completing my Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health (Book 1) extension course I was gearing up to undertake the companion extension course for Science of Survival (which I'm looking to undertake this year). I like the flow of Science of Survival and the concepts outlined within. Whilst it is a larger page count than Book 1 it is objectively an easier book to understand. L. Ron Hubbard smashed it out of the proverbial park with this follow up book.
The tech does not work. Hubbard lied about his history and his discoveries. David Miscavige beats his staff. Disconnection policies destroy families. If you read this book with the intent of being open to Hubbard's ideas please know that the writings are false. Hubbard only wanted power and money at the expense of followers whom he fed continual lies and doled out cruel punishments.
Literalmente mi libro favorito ever. Muy exacto en sus predicciones, no hay mejor forma de analizar la propia supervivencia y la de los demás. Incluso metodología para mejorar boom
I have done this book as an extension course and let me tell you that it is really hard-at least- for me to summarize in few paragraphs the whole book. Instead, what I love about Science of Survival is the questions being asked on the course. These really help you to travel in the interior of your mind to dig up all kinds of tragedies, pain, suffering, engrams and facsimiles, etc. Below, I answered to a question that helped me to articulated in words an incident that occurred in the life of brother of mine and me. Read Book One, Chapter Thirteen Speech: Talks, Speech: Listens and answer the following questions. Question 49: ...Describe some of the attributes of the 1.1 as per column K, Speech: Talks, Speech: Listens. He will not listen to any communication of any kind from other people, except that which encourages him in his attitude... It takes the form of pretended agreement, flattery, verbal appeasement or simply a false picture of the person's feelings and ideas, a false facade, and artificial personality. Here is the level of covert hostility, the most dangerous and wicked level on the tone scale. Question 50:... Describe someone you have observed who was at this level on the chart. From living a very good life in Portland, Oregon to getting decapitated at the stop of Moralillo Plaza on-the-Hwy-from Tepexi to San Juan Ixcaquixtla. It was May 3, 2001 when Jorge Luis Castillo a brother of mine decided to go visit his beloved wife Lina that he left in Tula, Tepexi de Rodrguez, Puebla, Mex. He was one of my favorite brothers. He previously came to the United States around 1998 and so he stayed only for a little bit and then when back to Tula. He came back to Portland to stay a little longer so, he could work and save money for a Cheyenne truck was his main, aim. Due to his complicated work schedule we were almost never able to hang out and socialize. I never really knew who he was in his interior or why he found a 2d (girlfriend) in Portland and then they move in to cohabitate in apartment in Gresham. Jorge told me, "We moved in because I want to help her with her drug addiction". Even when it sound like a justification of an over act or withhold on the part of Jorge. I believe him for he meant it and I felt it for the tone level that was embedded when he communicated to me what he did. Well! No only he wanted to help this young girl leave the drugs, but also they were both lonely living in the Gresham... A long story short, he pays me to drive a black Camaro to Mexico from Gresham,Oregon. He was planning to go visit his unforgotten wife. Drove the car and then he arrived in Tula. He stayed and I came back to the US. On May 3, 2001 at around 10:00 am I received a very cold call that Jorge was been murdered by AKA El Caballito... From May 1- May 5 is a big fair in Tula but in most other villages and towns of Mexico, too. My brother has been drinking with "pretended friends" and they got him killed supposedly because they wanted to still his truck but also they were paid to take a revenge... We found out this later.
“Dianetics isn’t as hard as flying a plane” - no it is not, but you are wasting your time and money on doing it! Please don’t give your time and money to the Scientology franchise. I know there are Scientologists who are allowed to go on the internet and read all the bad stuff people say about Scientology. If that is you, and if you are reading this; There is help out there for you to get out of Scientology. Save your money, yourself and your family. Please stay safe.
As for this book. It is a typical Scientology book, not really anything new from what we all know Hubbard “believed” in. However it is the book where he says (more clearly that ever) homosexuality is bad and people who are not straight should be killed. Adoption is bad, and no person who has been raised by anyone else than their parents (no matter how good the upbringing has been) is, according to Hubbard, bad. It is a sad book when you realize that people read this and believe this to be true.
If I could’ve given 0 stars I would’ve. It shouldn’t be read by anyone, other than to see the craziness of what Scientology actually believes. Not only is it extremely unhealthy to believe these thing. It’s also written poorly, big parts of it makes no sense (some points goes against other parts of this or other books by Hubbard), using big words just to be fancy, and having to define basic words. And of course, as with most Scientology books, it goes against science...
Interesting, advanced text on human behaviour. In my top 5 books ever. The book offers an exhaustive description of the various emotional states, how they can be recognized and how resulting behavior can be predicted. By knowing a few characteristics of a person, I have learned to know their entire personality, behavioral pattern and character. This book has taught me the dynamics of human behavior I may have never learned in my entire life. The Tone Scale in The Hubbard Chart of Human Evaluation is a great tool for individuals in the position of power of hiring personnel, in relationships, in schools dealing with scholars from kindergarten to college and many, many more fields of life. It has helped me in dealing with my family and friends in my personal life by understanding their Tone Level and lowering or increasing mine. This is the ultimate guide on " How to choose your people " Find out how to choose a partner, an employee, a babysitter etc; You will not be sorry!
I didn't understand much of this book and it wasn't what I was expecting. I bought it for a couple of bucks at the Library sale and thought it'd be neat. I'm not sure if the CDs got switched but it wasn't really what the descriptions on here are saying. A lot of it went over my head with the statistics and the Dianetics. But I think others could get more out of it.
My friend once said, “You can’t trust anyone.” This is what I believed fro many years. I read this book and found that most people can be trusted, but, there are people who can’t. Using the chart in this book I am able to spot and avoid them easily.
A meaty book--so it took me awhile to get all the way through it--but very useful and interesting. As an artist I especially enjoyed the section on art and "the aesthetic mind." Great expansion of my understanding of human behavior.
It was a sequel to Dianetics book with a complete and more informative breakdown of how to properly audit the pre-clear and his/her case. The chart was also a great help in order to guide every auditor and check the level and progress of the case.
