Cuốn sách tập trung vào giai đoạn đầu của dự án: xác định vấn đề, tầm nhìn và nhiệm vụ, việc lập kế hoạch, xây dựng tiến độ; và việc kiểm soát trong khi thực hiện dự án: kiểm soát và đánh giá dự án, kiểm soát thay đổi, quản lý đội dự án... Cuốn sách cũng đã cung cấp nhiều thông tin hữu ích cho những giai đoạn mà nó đề cập.
Tuy nhiên, mình thấy sách cũng có một số đoạn nhảy cóc và nhiều vấn đề chưa được đề cập tới: Sách có đề cập đến các thành tố của kế hoạch "chiến lược, chiến thuật và hậu cần", nhưng lại không đi vào phân tích cũng như đưa ra cách quản lý các mảng này. Sách cũng không diễn giải việc phát triển giải pháp sau khi đã xác định vấn đề và cũng không nói nhiều đến giai đoạn đóng dự án.
Anyway, về tổng thể, mình thấy đây là một cuốn sách phù hợp cho người mới bắt đầu và không cần kiến thức nền về QLDA cũng có thể hiểu và có được những thông tin hữu ích cho mình

Đối chiếu với cách quản trị dự án của dự án tuyển dụng mình tham gia hồi hè thì đúng thật là "bản báo cáo tiến độ thất bại của dự án" như cuốn sách ám chỉ, người sếp ấy đơn thuần vẽ ra bản tiến độ và ném cho tụi mình tools để thực hiện còn tools hoạt động như nào thì mình tự mò lấy, và khi dự án không đi đúng tiến độ thì anh ta nhúng tay vô như một người thực hiện thay vì quản lý, vô hình chung làm phân tán đi việc quản lý. Có thể nói cuốn sách này không chiến thắng bài kiểm tra của thời gian rồi, vì những điều được nói tới căn bản cũng đã lỗi thời mặc dù tư tưởng cốt lõi vẫn còn hiệu quả vd lập kế hoạch dự án.  "Cách thức bạn xác định một vấn đề sẽ quyết định cách bạn giải quyết nó" nhận thức sâu sắc. Một điều tuyệt vời là mình vừa có trải nghiệm đối với dự án thành công và có đủ các tố chất thành công trình bày ở cuốn sách (ttgbct) và cả dự án thất bại cũng có những tố chất thất bại được đề cập trong cuốn sách (sap21)
Đúng là đọc để tìm hiểu và đọc để thực hiện theo là 2 phạm trù hoàn toàn khác nhau, đọc xong thấy ý tưởng đầy mình, bắt tay làm thì cứng đơ, phải đọc lại, và như thể lần đầu đọc vậy đó . Sau khi đọc xong, vừa hay lại có một project, nên mình áp dụng luôn, chắc chủ yếu ở stage planning thôi, nhưng vẫn challenging phết rồi.

Very useful book for those that lead projects frequently. It is a great overview of the process and pointers on how to lead your project to the finish line. I appreciate the author including a chapter on leadership as this is a forgotten aspect for project managers. As the author claims, the hardest part is not managing the project but managing people. From experience, I can agree with that, you can know all the process, tools and protocols available, but if you cannot lead, motivate and manage conflict with people chances are you are going to run into some challenges. This book focus on all aspect on managing a project, including the lesser known ones, for me the two most important part that gets lost in project management is stakeholder inclusion and leadership, both of which this book covers. I think the structure of this text is well design and I do see myself referring to it as I continue to manage projects.

Please note that this text is structured more like a text book and it is a dry read. However, it is structured in a way where you can look at the table of content and just go to the chapter that is relevant to you.

Подумываю над сменой сферы деятельности, заинтересовался управлением проектами. Решил для общего представления о том, что это такое прочитать эту книгу.
Сначала, мне показалось, что описываемые процессы и подходы очень уж формальны и никто в реальной жизни так не делает. Потом я посмотрел вопросы на собеседованиях ПМ в своей компании и увидел, что эти знания все же нужны. Плюс по мере продвижения по материалу, я стал понимать, что несмотря на кажущийся формализм - почти все описанное в книге действительно полезно и вполне применимо на практике.
В общем, отличная базовая книга. Думаю, что можно вооружившись ей уже идти нарабатывать опыт (об этом я как раз сейчас думаю).
Описан процесс управления проектом, роли ПМ на каждом этапе проекта, техники управления всеми составляющими проекта.

This book is ok if you are already in Project Management. For someone who is just starting, it may be too confusing. It also has very different terms than the PMBOK Guide and different philosophies and methodologies. So if you are studying for the CAPM or PMP its more of a refresher than a study guide.

There are lots of very helpful real-world tips and tricks. His templates are very useful too. I just don't recommend it for companies starting a PMO or someone who is new to PM to take as their guide.

This is a book that I recommend to people just starting to learn about Project management. It gives a good overview of key concepts, some practical tips and tools, and exercises to get you started. It references other more in-depth books for those who want to dig a little deeper in one area or another. A very good starting point to learn some of the basic concepts and vocabulary of Project Management.

This was a comprehensive explanation with a bit of humor and was easy to read. This would be a great resource for anyone working in PM who needed a refresher on a certain piece of their work. The defined chapters make it easy to get the info about that aspect out and some short exercises.

I wish more books on complicated topics were written like this one.

This book is almost too simple. Provides an average overview, but concepts are repeated multiple times throughout the book. It is almost as if the author forgot they had mentioned key points before and repeated them nearly verbatim throughout the text.

The useful book for newbies in the project management field to get the basic things about how to manage a project according to PMBOK standards.

What a Great overview of Project Management! It provides a good overview of key concepts, some practical tips and tools, and exercises to get you started.
It starts with an overview about the project, and project management according to PMBOK standards. Then moves on to the role of the project manager”, describing it, giving examples and key tips.

Firstly by Developing a Mission, Vision, Goals, and Objectives for the project. Secondly planning the project using the WBS (Work Breakdown Structure), then Creating the project risk plan. Fourthly scheduling project work by producing a workable schedule and having a project control and evaluation system, also how to Control the project using Earned Value Analysis, and a change control process. Afterwards managing the project team from the beginning till the end with taking into account the team stages and the importance of having leaderships skills.
An easy to read book, very easy to understand which makes the Project Management work simple and easy.

I have already read some books about project management before and this book so far is the best because it discusses lots of important topics and it is based on the latest version of the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK(R)). It is really a tremendous overview for someone new to Project management.

Fist of all, I just want to say thank you for an amazing book that you wrote and as it already translated to VietNamese. Even I can read your English version as I will to improve my English skill, haha, but after I complete my own language version. Because, it is very easy to understand what you wrote on that book, I swear. I dont believe and I ever never think that Project Management is the a beautiful work like this before. I also read some PM related books as PMBOK, or Project Management for construction... and your book hepl me too much thing that I dont know from those one.

Interesting book, but more importantly is easy to read and goes to the point in most places, in others its a bit "esoteric" in which it mentions something as if the reader is supposed to know about it, or give little information about the topic, still is better than others which you need a degree in Administration and experience in the field and int he topics discussed to be actually able to fathom some of it.
