I MISS YOU ERIC LITWIN!!!!!!!!! The Pete the Cat books are just not as good without Mr. Eric. This new addition to the Pete the Cat saga is too wordy and the rhymes are too clunky. It just doesn't have the magic the previous titles had...

In the last 2 days, I have read nine (yep 9) Pete the Cat books. These books are perfect for gramds and great-grands to read to young children. The underlying value system seems to be of some cool cats, 1960-70s style.

This book presents a variation on counting books. The way it is written encourages more interaction with the readers and may even encourage a a discussion about addition and subtraction.

Quirkily and colorfully drawn children’s story. Pete the Cat and Gus the Duck bake ten cupcakes but they keep disappearing. Who could be taking them? The squirrel? The alligator? The turtle? The frog? A story of friendship and forgiveness. What is there not to love about a cat and cupcakes?

This is my first book reading from these two authors and it didn’t disappoint. This book is about finding the culprit who ate the cupcakes and more importantly giving second changes. Pete the Cat is a great book for kids.

Pete the Cat and his friend Gus make eight cupcakes for a party they are throwing, but find that their treats slowly disappear over the course of the day. They confront their various friends, from Squirrel to Alligator, but each has a cast-iron alibi. Eventually the culprit is revealed: unable to stop himself, has eaten all the cupcakes! The friends decide that he must miss the party as a punishment, but Pete argues that he should be forgiven, and given a second chance...

Told in rhyme, Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcakes is the eighth full-size picture-book devoted to the adventures of that eponymous cool cat, but only the fourth written by illustrator and Pete the Cat creator James Dean's wife Kimberly, rather than original author/song-writer Eric Litwin. Although the artwork in these later entries in the series is of the same caliber as in the earlier titles, I have to say that the narratives are not as appealing. Although this one is told in rhyme, it lacks the sing-song quality that made the Litwin titles so appealing, and is somewhat awkward in execution. There is also a difference in tone, I find, as the earlier books focused on having a positive attitude, whereas these later titles seek to impart moral messages. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, but it does make me wonder if that was part of the reason for the Litwin/Dean split. Also interesting is that each of these later Pete the Cat books includes a reference to a biblical verse in the dedication, pointing to a religious quotation whose theme is explored in the story. This one referenced Matthew 6:14, which addresses the theme of forgiveness. Again, nothing wrong with that, but it does offer some explanation for the differences in tone and storytelling between Kimberly Dean's stories, and Eric Litwin's. Recommended primarily to strong Pete the Cat fans...

If I could give this piece of garbage negative stars I would. Out of loyalty to the character and because I knew that patrons would ask about it, I read this and I SUFFERED.

The only good thing in this entire bit of drivel is the message of forgiveness. There, I just told you that you should forgive a friend if they wrong you thereby saving you from having to suffer through the HORRIBLE text--I can't even call it rhyming because it was so uneven and atrocious at times--and the asinine plot that dragged on and on and on and on and on and on and on (get the picture?)--and the pictures which really have become a bit creepy.

According to the message of this book, I should forgive this book for ruining a character for me and wasting my time...but I cannot. I feel resentful. Give me my old Pete the Cat back!

A longer text than most of the Pete the Cat books. Children have always loved cupcakes and we certainly live in a cupcake crazed world at the moment and Pete is about to throw a party with the ten cupcakes he has made. Beginning with ten cupcakes all of a sudden some so missing and interestingly enough they disappear by twos and this is where someone could work in the concept of subtracting by 2s. Anyway Pete and Gus begin to search for the cupcake taker. One of the better Pete the Cat stories in my opinion.

This is a book that teaches math concepts using suspense, who took the missing cupcakes? The book shows pages with clues of who could have taken the cupcakes (footprints). After reading the story I will the children split up into small groups. Some students will be coloring and decorating their own cupcakes. They will get paper sprinkles, markers, crayons, and glitter. Some students will be in the science center identifying different footprints. I will ask them, are these people or animal prints? I will be exposing them to alligator tracks, puppy prints, horse prints, and barefoot prints.

This is such a cute book! I would give this a 100 star rating if it was possible. My 4 year old insists on us reading it to him multiple times a day.

He practically has it memorized where I can stop at the second to the last word and he will finish the last word. Or I will ask him "hey what did the turtle say?"

I purchased this through scholastic from a book order with his Pre-K class. However, he cannot wait to go to the library to find more Pete the Cat books!

Pete and Gus make cupcakes for a cupcake party. They count the cupcakes, but then notice some are missing... and more keep disappearing. Pete and Gus have a mystery to solve.

A fun and colorful rhyming picture book. The message at the end is forgiveness. Also, it's good for counting with young children since Pete counts the cupcakes several times to see how many are left.

Cats and Cupcakes

Pete made some good looking cupcakes, but they started going missing, one by one. Pete and Gus try to track down the thief. The book finally concludes with a twist not unlike every M. Night Shyamalan movie. Highly recommended thriller.

Another rhyming Pete the Cat story. This time Pete and his friend Gus are trying to figure out who has been eating their cupcakes. Observant readers will be able to figure out what has been happening. With a little bit of math and a touch of mystery, Pete the Cat fans will enjoy this lively picture book with a big-hearted message about second chances and sharing.

A rare instance of a super popular series not just dialing it in for the bucks. I kinda liked the asymmetrical rhyming and while the plot was familiar it wasn't insipid. And it's got counting, too! Way to diverge from the formula, James Dean!
