"Nonbinary" is a new minicomic by Melanie Gillman (creator of As the Crow Flies.) It contains 16 pages of full-color, autobio comics about their process of coming out and living life as a person of nonbinary gender. Topics covered include: pronoun changes, dysphoria, dealing with reactions from friends/family/employers/etc., misconceptions about nonbinary people, and more.
I got this as a gift and it is a great little comic about the author coming to terms with being and feeling Nonbinary and asking people to use their pronouns, and like everything Melanie Gillman does it looks gorgeous. The book design is also cool because the cover has a flap that splits down the middle.
An exploration of nonbinary gender experience that is beautiful both emotionally and artistically. Several times, I felt like Gillman had reached directly into mine and my spouse's life and just pulled our experiences into the world. Knowing that these are, in fact, Gillman's own experiences helped me feel that much less alone. A powerful read for anyone who is nonbinary or who's trying to understand what nonbinary is all about. Be prepared to cry a little.
YES!! I am so happy I read this and bought it. It is quite relatable; I often question myself, struggle to correct people even though it hurts and have wondered about presentation. The art is amazing too.
This is a super cute short booklet an example of the non-binary experience which is both highly relatable for queer people, and also highly accessible for friends and allies.
