This was the textbook for my graduate-level medical physiology course, which was my program's inaugural and most intensive course. It was a great resources and the lead author (Boron) gave a guest lecture in the course concerning aquaporins. I don't recall have any major complaints about the content, and it was one of the more advanced yet still comprehensive texts I've seen on med phys (though I'm not someone who have thoroughly surveyed all the options).

I still have a copious amount of notes and worksheets concerning content derived from the text, though I'm not sure I'll ever have a need to return to this content.

Mientras varios profes de mi facultad que no tienen vocación para la enseñanza daban clases tediosas que me daban ochenta mil golpes, este libro me dio un abrazo y me dijo: tranqui, yo te explico.

Is it a complete book? Yeah but it’s a little messy to read. There is continuity to what it says but then at points it gets heavy and makes its reading a bit more difficult. As a student, I’ll recommend it, but there are many other physiology books that are as good or even better.

A masterpiece. One of, if not, the best resource for gaining an in-depth, comprehensive understanding of physiology. Boron and Boulpaep dive into subjects with shrewd precision, helping the student follow each principle from its basic fundamentals to its wider practical applications. I would advise this book more as a reference rather than a chapter-by-chapter reading textbook, only because the sheer volume of information provided is difficult to get through in a normal semester. Believe you me, if time permitted, this would be the only textbook I used for medical physiology. Highly recommended for any physiology medical student or even those taking physiology outside of medical school.

I fell in love with this book the moment I started reading it. Much more simple and better explanations than other physiology books. I can't recommend this enough!

A masterclass in connecting the big picture of the human body to all its intricacies in its function. Shows how amazing our bodies are at automatically fixing problems and how catastrophic it can be when those repair systems fail or even worse work against what they are meant to maintain.
Also it is astounding how influential the renin-aldosterone system is. Either of your kidneys have a little bit of a low BP? Yeah I think we oughta raise the BP of every blood vessel in the body, including the other kidney’s, to get that one up to snuff.
Also it is so cool how simple the causes of atherosclerosis are and how incredibly complicated solutions need to be when it becomes a serious health issue. I guess a lot of health things are like that now that I think about it. Keep a low BP people‼️

Pictures were fantastic too

My commute read for several years. There is quite a lot of detail (depends how familiar you are with each topic, of course), but the figures and cases are helpful. I really like how some of the authors engage readers with a degree of rigor, eg by presenting certain insights without explicitly explaining them so that readers can work through the logic and/or calculations on their own. There are some sections that are not as clear, but I like the vast majority of the chapters.

This book goes in to lots of detail but is very well organized so that if you're not particularly interested about learning some of details, you can easily skip over it and get to the next topic quickly. Excellent pictures and explanations. Also relates physiology to histology, biochem, etc. Integrates the physiology. Great book.
