I was tentative prior to reading these books. The first because it’s not really my usual and because of the hype, the second because I’d enjoyed the first much more than I’d expected and was unsure as to whether I would enjoy the sequel.
Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised by both. They’re both great reads, similar yet beautifully different. The first is heart-breaking in its beauty, the second a much lighter read that takes the characters to new places. Throughout the two books, such a range of emotions will be experienced, giving you everything you could hope for and then some.
Overall, much better than I’d expected. I’m glad I gave them both a read.
Started off really not my type, but grew into me and I actually liked the new characters, especially Sam.
Still think the first book should have been a stand alone as this second one just added a bunch of information that didn't bring much sense to the original story.
But it was a good read and I enjoyed Lou's journey
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading both Me before You and Me after You. I have seen the movie, Me before You as well but as always, the book is always better than the movie! Nonetheless, the actors in that movie have really brought Louisa and Will into life and the director had done a good job delivering the essence of the story.
The author had treated the subject of euthanasia with care and she has described the feelings of how it must have felt to let a loved one go like that through the parents of Will Traynor and Louisa Clark. She also did a good job describing what it must have been like to be a quadralegic. I could understand and appreciate why Will decided to end his life at Dignitas even though I do not totally agree with him on his decision because in my mind, it is not up to an individual to decide to live or to die. There has to be a reason why he had survived that traffic accident and met Nathan and Louisa. Perhaps it is the supreme being's crude way of teaching Will how to live and appreciate life.
This subject is a difficult one to discuss with family and friends but I am glad that we could now use this book as the basis of discussion without feeling awkward.
I also like the idea that the author wrote a sequel to Me before You. It was nicely written and I liked the way how she left it. Highly recommended to read both!
Me Before You and After You Boxed Set was a great read by Jojo Moyes. Me Before You by JoJo Moyes was a great read. It is definitely a book that you will need tissues to get through. Lou Clark is a girl that almost anyone can relate to. She is stuck in a monotonous life that she loves. She knows how many steps are from her bus stop to her house, she loves her job at local cafe and she isn't quite sure if she's in love with her boyfriend. She loses her job and doesn't know where to work. She meets Will Traynor when she is hired to take care of him. Will became a quadriplegic after a motorcycle accident. This book was amazing. JoJo Moyes makes you fall in love with the characters. After You by Jojo Moyes was a great read. Louisa finds herself questioning how to move on after Will’s death. Louisa gets into an accident that forces her to return to her families. Louisa goes to a support group that leads her to Sam. Things seem to be going well for Lou until a figure from Will’s past shows up. I loved reading this book and can’t wait to read more of Louisa’s story.
Occasionally I'm looking for a good drama novel to read outside of my usual genre. I really liked these two and will probably read the third one, as the second ending leaves a bit wanting for more.
I'm always looking for stories that depict disabilities in a skillful, natural way and bring more awareness to the struggles but also the normalcy of it. Me Before You (Love that title!) does that and more. It really brings out the heartbreaking struggle and the devastation that comes with it.
After You is set one and a half year later and what I liked most was the very real depiction of grief, quite another struggle yet similar. I just found the second novel not eventful for quite a long stretch. In the end it was almost untypically dramatic but it works for the character development, so I guess it's okay.
I do really have high hopes for the final installment now where I hope Lou will finally come into herself. It's been two books, so time for her to find her true self :)
This is not one of my favorites, but it definitely touched my heart. This is the realest book i’ve ever read yet, which doesn’t exactly make it the most enjoyable. What i love in books is that they make you live somewhere far away from your reality, they make you dream and wonder on and on. This book was scary and daunting and the characters were so alive and scarred. Also it was awfully long and i think I would’ve enjoyed it more if it were all put into one book. The reason i even read it was because i wanted to watch the movie so bad, i think i’m gonna enjoy it even more than the book.
Ah what a lovely couple of books, and both different. The first, emotional and tearful, heart wrenching, while the second more light hearted, full of good messages and funny in places. I live with teenagers too and some of the comments in the book are so true. I can't quite believe all that happens to Louisa but she is a true life character and you get pulled into her world as if you know her yourself.
I realize I'm in the minority here but I enjoyed book 2. Maybe it wasn't as fantastic as book 1; because lets be honest, nothing will ever come close, but it's still one of my favorite duets. However, I would hope others would also be open minded enough to not hate on book 2 just because it follows such an epic first book.
My first book by this author, as I was recommended it. I really like the way JoJo writes, no annoying fillers & boring descriptions, unless really necessary. I thought the story was well told, & enjoyed the follow up, it's good to have a sequel & follow the characters through the next stage. Looking forward to reading the 3rd & finalpart.
These books ruined me in the best way possible. They truly opened my eyes as to how lucky I am for my good health and that I am able to function in every way I desire to. I don't want to say too much because I don't want to give anything away, but just trust me. They're amazing. They also get spicy at some parts of you know what I mean... and who doesn't love a little bit of spice!
I am starting to read it today I read it before you ,enjoyed it and it was great The story was beautiful, but I wish Will did not commit suicide I hope it will be beautiful before you, dear Jojo Moyes
Loved this book, it captivated the thoughts of both characters deeply. Funny and emotional story, definitely a book hard to put down. Anyone looking for a book with i know exactly what Louise was thinking this is it....brilliant
I crieddddd! The movie was the first thing I watched. But then I saw the books. The story is incredible, the detail and the character development is more than I could have asked for . I would run to get these books again and have the opportunity to re-read them to have that experience again.
Liked the books Me and You and After You better than the movie, he latter could not convey the descriptions and unspoken thoughts and emotions that the text managed well.
Absolutely heartbreaking and captivating. I fell in love with Lou and Will’s relationship immediately. I loved all the characters. A fast and beautiful read.
I absolute love Jojo Moyes books and writing style. This book is absolutely beautiful and has my heart. A book for emotional romance lovers. You can’t help but fall in love with Lou and Will.
