This book is obviously not licensed by either the "Diary of a Wimpy..." franchise or the Pokémon brand. Words like "Pokédex" were not capitalized, the "é" was never accented, and the book was rife with typos and grammatical errors. I found it boring. However, that said, my six year old found it riveting and wants to read the next book. Poor me. She asked me to read a smiley face at the end that said that her name can be used in the next book if she leaves a positive review, so the next thing I know I'm leaving her five star review on Amazon. Clever ploy. I just had to be real here on Goodreads. Please edit your work! It is grating to read!
Very poorly written. Spelling and grammar mistakes, even in the summary. Filled with stolen art from Google images. 10 of the 30 pages are ads for the author's other books.
My sister and I found this book sitting in a bin at a used game store, and we knew we had to buy it. Where has this wonderful piece of fiction been my whole life. Clearly plaigarized fan art throughout, clearly meaning to capitalize on the Pokemon Go trend of the time, plus it takes like 15 minutes to read. What more could you want? Also read the "quotes by the author" on here they're legendary.
This book is very interesting and it is very funny, I rate this 5 out of 5, the reason I rated so high is because I like Pokémon a lot and I think it is a really really good book for Pokémon fans!
The reason I'm giving this book 3 stars is because it is satirical and actually included a plot with obstacles that Ash had to overcome. The book needs editing. There are spelling, and grammar mistakes throughout this story, and it also needs written organization.
The reason I said the book was okay is because there was a good plot at the end and it's a bit satirical. Tell story needed more written organization, and a few other edits it terms of spelling and grammar. The story touches upon how Pokemon were born, and how people reacted when they were born. Their trainers use them to battle and Ash had to overcome a few obstacles along with the rest of the trainers.
My library purchased this book based on a request from a patron, although I'm not sure how anyone could get past the terrible translation on the back cover (note: missing punctuation and grammar included!):

------ This is designed to appeal to kids but feels as though it was written by one that had never actually watched the show (who has ever called Pikachu "Pika"?). On the bright side, there is a page near the back of the book with a review link and promise from the author that they will "mention your name in the next book for your reviews" so I guess I'm going to be famous soon as they never specified if the review had to be a positive one.
My son has chosen this series as his independent bedtime reading and seems to really enjoy the story. He even asked me to get volume 2 from the library. The writing and premise seem about right for the typical 2nd grade reader but I'm sure younger readers might be fine too. My only complaint is some incorrect grammar and typos that I noticed glancing quickly through. Maybe future editions will clean up these issues.
